Maxwell was certainly busy unbeknownst to all his friends. Maxwell and Donovan’s first meeting was strained to say the least. Maxwell is used to being loved by everyone who meets him and decides to make it his mission to crack Donovan. During his experiments with Donovan he learns some interesting things about himself. Things he never considered before Donovan.
Donovan is one of Lily’s Mafia brothers. Stoic, standoffish, looks like he’s thinking of all the ways to kill somebody while looking at them, and one of the most feared men in New York. He has zero desire to interact with his sister’s fiancé or their friends, especially preppy looking rich kid Maxwell. Except he is continuously getting in Donovan’s way, and won’t back off. Maxwell’s constant flirting grates on his skin, gets under his skin, and eventually forces Donovan to be honest about himself.
Then there’s Ayanna, the not dead, double agent, ex-doctor of the Morelli brothers, Maxwell’s or maybe Donovan’s baby momma, who has traumatic injury amnesia….. Maxwell’s story is filled with chaos, heartbreak, comedy, drama, and love. It made me repeatedly cry, swoon, laugh to the point of tears (especially during the special contributions from Granny Jensen and PomPom), and fall in love hard. While I am sad this series is completed, I absolutely loved the way it was done. up to in that background while the focus was elsewhere in the series. And our series finale is here... it's bittersweet. While I'm thrilled to finally get Maxwell's story, I'm also sad to say goodbye to this group of friends. I already know I'll be rereading this entire series someday, and I have my fingers crossed for any future spin-offs. One thing is certain: I'll be picking up whatever Marissa writes next. Her upcoming series already sounds incredible.
Although each book follows its own couple (or in this case, throuple), these are NOT standalones. The overarching plot builds from book to book, so they absolutely need to be read in order. The page count on this one might look intimidating, but honestly, I barely noticed. The story flows so naturally that I never felt like it dragged.
One thing I often struggle with in why choose romances is that one or more love interests can end up feeling underdeveloped. It's difficult to give every character equal time to shine, struggle, and be vulnerable. Marissa absolutely nailed that balance here.
The book is split into two timelines: past and present. The first half revisits events from the earlier books through Maxwell's perspective while also exploring the beginning of his relationship (and bisexual awakening) with Donovan. Ayanna doesn't enter the relationship until later, giving the two men time to explore their connection first. Once she joins them, the dynamic naturally shifts, but thankfully neither MMC ever feels pushed aside, and we get plenty of Ayanna's journey as well.
The second half picks up directly after the cliffhanger from book four and finally delivers the conclusion to the series-wide storyline while continuing the throuple's relationship as they navigate Ayanna's amnesia. While this book is still dark, it explores that darkness in a very different way than Axel's book.
The spice remains off the charts, with plenty of variety throughout. No two intimate scenes felt repetitive, which I always appreciate in a longer romance. And of course, getting to spend more time with beloved secondary characters like Pom Pom and Granny Jensen was the perfect bonus.
This series has become one of my all-time favorites, and Maxwell's book was everything I hoped it would be.

Where to even start...
Maxwell Beaumont by Marissa Markx was an incredible read from beginning to end. I have been waiting for his book since the beginning of this series.
Maxwell's book starts as a MM, relationship between Donovan and Maxwell.
When i started reading this last book in this series, everything has exceeded my expectations, the way we got everything from their point of view for everything that has happened in the previous books. I love how the relationships went from MM TO MMF which is one of my favourite tropes.
The plot in this story completely surprised me, all the twist and how the story was written. I understood more about Maxwells preference. This book is not dark heavy as Axel and Carmen's story but it does include dark themes in different context.
I loved how we got Maxwell's and Donovan story in part one of the book then got part two for Maxwell, Donovan and Ayanna's story.
Everything each character went through broke my heart and I understood a lot more about each character the more I read.
We got so much from previous characters from previous books, the banter and humour in the book was so good, I've laughed so much especially with Maxwell and Donovan's relationship.

Maxwell Beaumont by Marissa Markx was an incredible read from beginning to end. I have been waiting for his book since the beginning of this series.

When i started reading this last book in this series, everything has exceeded my expectations, the way we got everything from their point of view for everything that has happened in the previous books. I love how the relationships went from MM TO MMF which is one of my favourite tropes.

I have been waiting for Maxwell's story since the very beginning. It was everything I imagined and so much more! The structure was amazing; starting with jaw dropping information before getting flung back to the past. I always had a lingering feeling about Maxwell's preferences, and this book was a big "aha" moment.
Donovan and Maxwell have an interesting dynamic, like a magnet neither can deny. Their connection is beautiful yet devastating at the same time. When Ayanna is thrown into the mix, their worlds are completely flipped upside down. It packs in high-stakes suspense, self-discovery, shocking secrets, and extremely spicy moments. This was a true roller coaster ride and I found myself conflicted yet rooting for them at the same time.

Amazing! The tension, the emotions, the spice, the difficulties of dealing with a different relationship, and multiple people, and family, amazing banter and the dialogue between characters was just perfection. Love and hate and tragedy and friendship. This book honestly has a little bit of everything you could possibly love in a dark rom com! I was on the edge of seat this whole book. Over 900 pages? Didn't feel like that at all, I just zoomed right through it! I'm still smiling from how well Marissa wrote these characters. I'm sad to say goodbye to this amazing group of friends!

I have been waiting for Maxwells story for so long. This book didn’t disappoint I was reading until 3am I was glued to my kindle. So good MMF thank you for this opportunity to read this book.

I have been waiting for Maxwell and Donovan’s story since book 3. THREE! It has lived up to every expectation I ever thought was over the top—I thought it would never live up to my wild imaginings of how their story would go. HA! The reality far surpasses anything my pea brain could have ever come up with. Quarrelsome lovers turned enemies turned lovers. The sex?? 🥵 Soooo freakin’ deliciously dirty. And, egads, it is really well written 🫦 The book pulls you in, so you’re living the experience with Ayanna, Maxwell, and Donovan—so, there’s that . . . Plus all the action, emotional blow-ups, revelations, reconciliations, and that amazing HEA.

“Maxwell Beaumont” by Marissa Markx is the final book in “The Assignment Series.” A dark romcom series that gets darker with each book, Maxwell’s story shifts from primarily taking place in a college to the real world after the major events of “Dean Jensen” and “Axel Devereaux.”
Having followed the series since the release of “King Kingston”, Maxwell’s story felt like a swan song of sorts, where his timeline allows returning readers the perfect opportunity to reminisce on highlights and their favorite characters while also being new reader-friendly, allowing them to catch up on the juicy details of what happened behind the curtain with our Golden Retriever, Maxwell. Serving as the series’ ending, Markx gives each member of the friend group their happy ending while leaving potential room for a Morelli brothers spin-off.
Markx does well fleshing out these characters to where each piece of dialogue was very in tune with her characters; it genuinely felt like different people were talking as you read. While our main friend group is supporting characters, each one still has their own moments to shine that fit the story so well.
“Maxwell Beaumont” begins as MM and continues into MMF. Now, this was my first foray into the “why choose” arena, so I didn’t know what to expect going in, and I found myself looking at their relationship almost scientifically as I processed their dynamics and behaviors. You can watch the relationships grow, fracture, and repair into a better one than they had before. It was nice watching each relationship dynamic grow and build.
Maxwell, Donovan, and Ayanna are three widely different characters (while all being devastatingly beautiful) with varying backgrounds that intersected into something beautiful. Their story isn’t physically dark like “Axel Devereaux”, but instead, the book leans into darker themes with a lighter emotional impact as these characters have already gone through the wringer. I loved each of their healing journeys, and I loved seeing them grow into more than what they were before. Seeing them forge a future each of them never imagined possible was so rewarding.
Now the spice? 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️. Markx is a spice-heavy and kink-forward writer, and that doesn’t change here. “Maxwell Beaumont” is the spiciest book in the series, and readers looking for a high-spice read will not be disappointed! Cane and Lily also have an epilogue of their own that has its own spice!
What starts as sexy nostalgia and dirty secrets gives way to more. More family, more Pom Pom, more hijinks, and more love. Cheers, Maxwell!

Markx does well fleshing out these characters to where each piece of dialogue was very in tune with her characters; it genuinely felt like different people were talking as you read. While our main friend group is supporting characters, each one still has their own moments to shine that fit the story so well.
“Maxwell Beaumont” begins as MM and continues into MMF. Now, this was my first foray into the “why choose” arena, so I didn’t know what to expect going in, and I found myself looking at their relationship almost scientifically as I processed their dynamics and behaviors. You can watch the relationships grow, fracture, and repair into a better one than they had before. It was nice watching each relationship dynamic grow and build.
Maxwell, Donovan, and Ayanna are three widely different characters (while all being devastatingly beautiful) with varying backgrounds that intersected into something beautiful. Their story isn’t physically dark like “Axel Devereaux”, but instead, the book leans into darker themes with a lighter emotional impact as these characters have already gone through the wringer. I loved each of their healing journeys, and I loved seeing them grow into more than what they were before. Seeing them forge a future each of them never imagined possible was so rewarding.
Now the spice? 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️. Markx is a spice-heavy and kink-forward writer, and that doesn’t change here. “Maxwell Beaumont” is the spiciest book in the series, and readers looking for a high-spice read will not be disappointed! Cane and Lily also have an epilogue of their own that has its own spice!
What starts as sexy nostalgia and dirty secrets gives way to more. More family, more Pom Pom, more hijinks, and more love. Cheers, Maxwell!
