Some roles are earned. Some are fate. Some might cost everything.
Larger-than-life actress Jayana “Yana” Gardner arrives in New York certain her big break has finally come. She’s got a casting director boyfriend, an ensemble role on Broadway, and just enough hope to believe things are falling into place. Then everything falls apart.
One breakup. One lost job. One eviction later, Yana is single, unemployed, and very much not thriving in a city that does not care.
So when Broadway’s most notoriously gruff music director, Langston Washington, offers her a shot at something bigger—a lead role, center stage, the kind of opportunity people wait years for—he’s got her attention.
One minor thing: she can’t be herself. On or offstage.
The star of his new neo-soul musical has vanished, and Yana looks almost identical to her. Close enough to step into the spotlight. Close enough to save the show.
Now Yana’s training in secret, learning choreography and vocals for a role she was never meant to play. Holding together a hidden identity that could fall apart at any second. Because under hot stage lights and watchful eyes, the lines begin to blur. Especially when it comes to Langston.
He’s controlled, grouchy, and impossible to read. She’s expressive, optimistic, and already in too deep. They clash. They challenge each other. And somewhere between late night rehearsals and private coaching sessions, the tension shifts into something neither of them planned. Something dangerous.
The closer Yana gets to opening night, the harder it is to keep the truth buried. And when questions about the missing star begin closing in, Yana must decide how much she’s willing to risk for the life she always wanted. And for the man who might cost her everything.
If you love Broadway romance, secret identities, messy ambition, and sizzling opposites attract chemistry, this one is for you.
Kimberly R. Vargas writes heartfelt stories about love, heartbreak, and the women who find their way back to themselves.
She’s the creator of The Next Chapter, an audio newsletter and storytelling space for readers who believe in second chances and soft landings. Her work celebrates women of color, emotional healing, and the kind of romance that sees you clearly.
As an indie author with big dreams and a soft spot for complicated love, Kim handles everything from writing to recording her own audio fiction. When she’s not knee-deep in edits or planning her next book release, she’s belting out a Mariah Carey high note or dancing in the basement like it’s 1999.
She lives in Michigan with her husband, two kids, and a very spoiled puppy.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of Broadway, Feels Like Destiny delivers more than just high-stakes drama - it explores identity, ambition, and the desire to truly be seen.
Yana arrives in New York expecting her big break, only to watch everything fall apart all at once. Enter Langston - a grumpy, controlled music director offering her an opportunity she can’t afford to turn down...with one condition: she must become someone else.
What stood out to me is the story’s focus on character. Even while stepping into someone else’s life, Yana’s true self remains at the center of it all. Meanwhile, Langston’s composed exterior slowly gives way to deeper layers that shape his actions and relationships.
Will they pull it off? You’ll have to read to find out!
This is my second book by this author, and she continues to deliver compelling characters with emotional depth, and engaging storytelling. A unique and memorable read.
“All this sacrifice, all this hustle… For what? A handful of callbacks and a lifetime of debt?” This story hooks you from the beginning and keeps you wanting more. Because after a break up, losing your job, and getting evicted things can’t possibly get worst can they?
Jayana is determined to live out her destiny. Even if that means doing it as someone else… I was able to relate to Jayana is so many ways. Now would I have committed borderline identity theft to prove my worth? Absolutely not lmao. But I understand all too well that hard work and talent isn’t enough. Especially in a cut throat world like Broadway (props to her for not giving up because I would have went back home crying to my parents with everything that was being thrown at her).
This story was full of secrets!! At time I was so annoyed with the FMC and MMC because they both were so insecure and loved avoiding the hard topics. Like can we grow up???? You are grown! The character development for both Jayana and Langston was amazing. I will have to read this again from the beginning to see if my POV changes knowing what I know now.
If you’re looking for romance, secrets, and love mess (hehe) then this is for you! Rating this a 4/5 because Jayana had me stressed and real life has me stressed enough. Thank you to Kimberly R. Vargas and team for the ARC <3.
Listen Kimberly gets me every timeeee!! I swear it be the covers!! I'm always like aww that's such a cute cover and now here I am.. bawling at 3 AM because of the way she perfectly carves real world issues into her storyline and has you fighting for your life because of your relatability to a character 😂😂
Feels Like Destiny is a wholeeee ride!! Kimberly Vargas delivered everything!! (as per usual!!)
Jayana’s growth -- scratch that -- both characters growth was amazing to see! Yana had me nervous in the beginning I won't lie lmaoo I was questioning her fr because the way I would've immediately ran home with my parents.. no questions asked lmaoo but she seriously went through so much at the very beginning I was nervous for how things would turn out for her. But in an effort to not spoil the book for anyone, I'll say Kimberly did the damn thing!! The self discovery in this book is real and I think that's a common factor in a lot of Kimberly's works and I always enjoy seeing it because it's soooo real!
Special thank you to Kimberly R. Vargas for the eARC! I definitely enjoyed this one and can't wait to read more of her future works!!
This story blends drama, light mystery, and a behind the scenes Broadway setting that keeps things engaging. Yana’s journey is frustrating at times but shows growth and self-awareness as she navigates a complicated situation. Langston is the steady, grumpy presence who slowly reveals a softer side, and their forced proximity dynamic has moments of real connection. Overall, an entertaining read with a unique premise with just enough drama. ARC Copy
THANK YOU TO KIMBERLY R VARGAS FOR ALLOWING ME TO READ AN ARC OF THIS RELEASE 🙌
I was instantly drawn into this story from the first few pages. This story follows Jayana, who always had a dream of making it to Broadway. After having a casting director boyfriend, who made a lot of promises. she moved to New York to chase that dream. When she finally lands a small roll, she loses it as quickly as she did. Everything that could go wrong, heartbreak, unemployment, no money, my girl was struggling. When the perfect opportunity lands in her lap finally for a musical on Broadway, Yana had a sliver of hope that things were about to turn around but leave it to KRV to throw in a curveball. There is one problem, not only does she have to play the Ella roll to perfection, she has to step into a whole persona and pretend to be the star who was supposed to be playing the role but has now vanished.
This story from Yana's POV takes you on a journey of her fighting all the odds, trying not to lose herself and also making her dreams come through while finding love along the way. When Yana met Langston who is also the music director on the play, he is grumpy, uptight and leaves no space for error or imperfections. The FMC made it easy to root for her, her sense of humor while still going through hard times was so relatable. I loved the way she consistency pushed through while she still kept her quirky ways. Langston at times was frustrating because I wanted him to speak up for my girl and say what he was feeling, but by the end of the book I liked him as well.
This is more than a romance story, it's a story of fighting to be seen, and sometimes having to give yourself flowers when others refuse to. Yana will probably be one of my favorite FMC's of 2026. If you love a Broadway/musical story with a good plot, acting on page, strong FMC then definitely give this a read.
This one didn’t just hit… it lingered. Feels Like Destiny is one of those stories that feels uncomfortably real….like it reaches into that quiet place where doubt, ambition, and identity all live at the same time.
Jayana “Yana” starts this story already on edge, but when everything falls apart…her relationship, her job, her home…you don’t just read it, you feel it. That desperation to make something work. That need to prove you belong.
So when she’s given an opportunity that requires her to step into someone else’s life… you understand why she takes it. Even when you know it’s risky. Even when you know it might cost her everything.
What makes this story stand out isn’t just the premise….it’s the execution.🤌🏾👏🏾
Yana’s journey….Watching her succeed while pretending to be someone else creates this constant tension: ✨ she’s finally being seen ✨ but not as herself
And that conflict? It’s heartbreaking.
Langston adds another layer to the story He’s controlled, guarded, and carrying his own weight. Their relationship isn’t perfect. It’s messy. Avoidant. Emotional. But it grows.
And that growth? That’s where this story shines.
The emotional depth, the character development, and the underlying themes of identity and self worth do all the heavy lifting.
This is a story about: 💔 chasing dreams at the cost of yourself 🎭 identity vs perception ✨ learning your worth outside of what you can offer and being loved for who you actually are
By the end, I wasn’t just invested. I was invested in Yana finding herself again.
This is my third book by @kvargasauthor and at this point, I don’t even question picking up her work. She consistently delivers stories that feel personal and emotional.
And this one? This one is going to stay with me.🥹💛
Thank you to the author Kimberly Vargas for sending me a copy of this book!
I really loved that Yana’s story didn’t follow that tired “struggling girl loses herself over a man” storyline. Yes, she was down bad for a minute but she never lost who she was. Still sassy, still quick with it, still not letting anybody especially Langston play in her face.
And let’s talk about Langston lol. Sir stayed acting like his boxers were in a bunch half the time, real uptight, real structured… but somehow it worked. Personally I love nerdy ‘Type A‘ MMCs. But that’s contrast between them. I enjoyed seeing Yana ruffle his feathers.
The plot did it for me. This didn’t feel like your typical romance. It had drama. Some intimate moments. It had a little “wait… what is actually going on?” energy. The whole doppelgänger situation? Very much giving Broadway meets Parent Trap, but grown, messier, and with actual stakes.
Watching Yana step into Alexia’s life was where things got real interesting. Sis basically turned into Inspector Gadget, uncovering secrets left and right, and in the middle of all that we start to see who Alexia really is too. It wasn’t just about pretending, it was about peeling back layers.
Overall, this felt refreshing. Different from the same recycled romance plots. It had personality, it had intrigue, and it gave me a main character who stood ten toes down in who she was even when everything around her was unstable.
If you like your romance with a little drama, a little mystery, and characters who actually feel like people… this one’s worth picking up.
Yana heads to the Big Apple to make her dreams a reality. Broadway, I am ready for you! But of course, nothing goes as planned. She finds herself facing crisis after crisis and at some point, something has to give. They say we all have a twin. An opportunity presents itself, and out of desperation, Yana agrees. That’s when the whirlwind truly begins.
Although Langston, the musical director, becomes her “steady,” even that feels complicated at times. “I need you to stand next to me when disasters happen.” Simple, right? But that wasn’t Langston… at least not until the very end of the book. He constantly needed to be coached on how to show up, and honestly… it got old. He stayed silent when it mattered most, and that silence spoke volumes.
Yana, on the other hand, was THEE character. Yes, there were moments where I was frustrated with her especially when she held back or allowed herself to fade into the background until things reached a breaking point. But her resilience stood out. She kept going despite everything, refusing to give up or throw in the towel when the unexpected kept happening. That said, I wish she had the tenacity to never allow someone to not choose her the first time around.
Overall, this story had strong moments and thought-provoking themes. I especially appreciated watching Yana step into her own destiny, no longer living under the guise of someone else.
Arc Review. I received my arc directly from the author .
I am truly impressed with your pen game . Loved the dance but this book hit different for me. Lord knows i love a good spicy scene but in this book there is no on page sex and honestly it wasn’t even needed. She gives enough to where you know what’s going on but not too much detail and it didn’t matter because the storyline and plot kept me engaged the entire time . I was invested in the story . Loved it !
This is my second book by this author and she hasn’t disappointed “yet”. There’s always a character i can’t stand. And she’s gonna give you some life lessons and healing . There was drama, secrets, betrayal, survival, and love !
Yana moves to New York for her big break or so she thought ! Instead she loses her job, gets evicted, and loses her man that’s not her man all in the same day. Now what? Here comes big shot music director, Mr Grumpy Sunshine, with an opportunity she can’t refuse . But there’s a catch she can no longer be herself . The star of the show is missing and Yana just so happens to look just like her . Can yana pull this off or will it all fall apart? Gotta read the book to find out!
Jayana has learned to mask her shortcomings with humor. She understands the value of making herself malleable. The problem is the more she’s forced to perform unprompted, the more she loses herself. She has hit rock bottom. With an opportunity to rescue herself from the wrath of show business, she takes a chance.
Langston believes that structure, quiet and stillness will save him. His desire to control leads him to be ill-equipped during stressful situations. Instead, he freezes during the most inconvenient times.
Both of them struggle with being chosen are rather feeling the need to be. The instability of their relationship, made me have reservations about the possible longevity of their love.
Jayana’s in desperate need of someone who can appreciate her for only being her true self. Langston would benefit from being with someone he doesn’t have to prove his ingenuity to. Someone who can be a foil to his rigid disposition.
Beyond the façade of show business, can they lean into a genuine connection?
Set in the high-stakes world of Broadway, this story follows Jayana and Langston as they navigate ambition, love, and the complicated space where those two collide. Their journey is filled with passion, hard choices, and moments that kept me turning the pages nonstop.
What really stood out to me was how layered the story felt. It blends ambition vs. love, friends-to-lovers tension, and second chances with a strong thread of trust and betrayal that adds so much drama. The push-and-pull dynamic between the characters made everything feel intense and real, and the behind-the-scenes Broadway setting only heightened the stakes.
I also appreciated the personal growth both characters went through. Their mistakes, emotions, and decisions felt authentic, which made the story even more engaging. Add in the rise-to-fame journey and hints of found family, and it created a well-rounded, immersive read.
Overall, this was a drama-filled, emotional story that I truly “ate up.” If you enjoy messy relationships, big dreams, and stories where love and ambition clash, this is definitely worth picking up.
Jayana has big dreams involving the stage and her name on a playbill. Life - and pastries - happen, leaving her struggling. When she gets approached to take the place of a missing actress to save a show as this actress' near double, it'd be insane to take it right? Even crazier would be to fall for the music director, but life needs a little crazy...
Oh how i LOVED this book!!! I fell in love with Yana in "The Dance" as a best friend so watching her become the leading lady in this story was just *chefs kiss.* It was empowering watching her recognize her own self worth and realizing that she is perfect as she is and not what she could do ot offer others. She is a strong and resilient character and one I admire so much. Her falling in love with Langston was beautiful to watch, and his story also pulled at my heartstrings. If you need a beautiful, rising above it all, strong FMC, stubborn MMC, perfectly paced slow burn with a Broadway addition, you will love this book!!
We first meet Yana in ““The Dance” as a secondary character who was pretty much comic relief; but in Feels like Destiny there is nothing funny about all she has to deal with. Yana is given a great yet complicated opportunity which brings in a little bit of mystery (someone attempts to kill someone maybe 😳😱
Then we have our main male character Mr. Langston Washington. Now I’ve dislike MMC before but never for as long as I disliked Langston lol He had me side eyeing him up until the END. Granted there were reasons why he acted how he did but still.
I really enjoyed this one and definitely recommend it for my romance lovers. 4.5 out of 5 stars for me the book kept my attention and I didn’t want to put it down.
I didn’t expect this story to take me on the ride it did, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised! The character development in this will put you in your feels but makes you appreciate each character individually. At first Langston comes off as a know-it-all stick in the mud who has an atitude. As he pulls his layers back in the story you start to see that attitude and demeanor are just defense mechanisms after having some not so great experiences in life and in the business.
I love how although they came to complete a job; they also took the time to get to know each other as people and let their walls down enough for both of them to take another chance on love and life! (Langston & Jayana) This story actually surprised me in more ways than one and I am excited for everyone else to get into it too!
This story is a raw, emotional, identity-shaking ride through the life of Jayana “Yana” Gardener—a woman who came to New York chasing Broadway dreams… only to be met with heartbreak, eviction, unemployment, and the cold reality that the city keeps moving whether you’re winning or losing.
Yana isn’t just struggling—she’s invisible.
And just when it feels like she’s reached rock bottom… opportunity shows up—but not in the way she prayed for.
🎭 The Premise (and the Twist that GAGGED me)
A rising star, Alexia Hyrd, goes missing. The show must go on.
And here comes the twist… Yana looks exactly like her.
Enter Langston and Julian with a plan that feels equal parts genius and dangerous: Turn Yana into Alexia.
At first glance, it’s survival. A paycheck. A second chance.
But baby… it becomes something much deeper: What does it cost to be seen… if you have to disappear first?
💔 Yana’s Journey – Seen but Not Known
What broke me about Yana is how real she feels.
She’s not just pretending on stage— She’s living a life where she’s finally visible… …but only as someone else.
There’s something haunting about: • Being applauded for a version of yourself that isn’t real • Finally being “chosen”… but not for who you actually are • Losing yourself while trying to survive
Yana didn’t just take on a role— She became a ghost in her own life.
🎼 Let’s Talk About Langston 👀
Now listen… Langston is layered. • Comes from Hollywood royalty • Carries guilt from something he couldn’t control • Obsessed with order, structure, and control
But underneath all that? A man who just wants to be seen for himself too.
And when he falls for Yana… Not the “Alexia” version—HER…
That’s when the story shifts.
Because suddenly: • Control meets chaos • Performance meets truth • And love starts asking real questions
❤️ The Real Message
This isn’t just about Broadway. This is about identity.
It’s for anyone who has ever: • Felt overlooked • Felt like they had to shrink or shape-shift to survive • Been tired of pretending to be who the world accepts
This story asks: If the world finally sees you… but not the real you… is it worth it?
🔥 Final Thoughts
This book is: • Emotional • Thought-provoking • A little messy (in the BEST way) • And deeply relatable
It’s about chasing dreams… but also about not losing yourself in the process.
Because in the end… being seen means nothing if you’re not known.
⭐️ Rating: 5/ 5
A beautifully layered story about identity, survival, love, and the dangerous cost of finally being noticed.
First, I have to reiterate… Kimberly R. Vargas is hands down one of my favorite authors. You can truly feel the love she pours into her work and it shows every single time. She truly deserves her flowers.
Feels Like Destiny was such an amazing experience. This story is the sequel to The Dance (yep… with Laura and Roman), and this time we follow Laura’s cousin, Yana. Yana… Whew Yana. Life has been no crystal stair if you know what I'm saying Lol. I mean, she was dealt with the kind of hand that makes you question everything, doubt everything and wonder if things will ever get better. But then just like that, her life shifts and to call it “a ride” is honestly an understatement.
This story gives hope. It gives love. It gives heartbreak. It definitely gives comedy (because I still giggle every time I think of a turkey sandwich LOL). And yes… it even gives a little suspense (don don don!).
The ending? WOW. Just bombs dropping everywhere!
But in the midst of all the drama, this story is about self-discovery. It really resonated with me especially when it comes to imposter syndrome and that feeling of not being enough, not being where you want to be...and feeling disposable. This book is a reminder that when you stay true to yourself and embrace who you are, you’ll realize you’re far greater than you ever imagined and sometimes in the time of need, "you don't need someone to manage disasters, you just need someone to stand with you when they happen".
Simply an entertaining, yet meaningful read. There is no doubt in my mind you'll enjoy Yana and Langston's story.
Yana was the comedic relief in "The Dance" by Kimberly R. Vargas, but this book was her solo! her story gives us a deeper look into her life, her thoughts, who she is and why she is the way she is..... even while she's pretending to be someone she's not!
Langston is a sour patch kid; first he's sour, then, after some teeth pulling and hard work from Yana, he's sweet! 🤣🤣🤣 I loved the growth throughout the book, for Langston and for Yana. Just like the theater scene it's set in, there was lots of drama and suspense and twists! Yana is so relatable in a lot of ways and inspiring in others. We all need a little "f*** it" attitude like hers 😍😍😍
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and I would definitely read it again! Kimberly's writing is also growing with each book and I'm so excited for the next one she's putting out! ❤️
I just finished Feels Like Destiny by Kimberly Vargas, and it’s the second book I’ve read by her—once again, she didn’t disappoint. I loved seeing Yana discover her self-worth and realize how amazing she truly is once she stopped doubting herself. Her character felt so real and relatable. At some point in life, I think we all struggle with self-doubt or try to become who others expect us to be instead of embracing who we really are. Yana’s uniqueness, awkwardness, and quirkiness made her even more lovable. I found myself rooting for her the entire time. Her journey was inspiring, and it made the story that much more meaningful. I’m really glad I had the chance to read this book, and I’m already looking forward to whatever Kimberly Vargas writes next.
🚨ARC REVIEW ‼️ What wouldn’t you do to fulfill your life long ambition? Is there a line you wouldn’t cross to live in the manifestation of your dreams?
Jayana Gardner is newly single, unemployed and recently homeless, my girl can’t catch a break! Out of nowhere her big break comes, her dream role! Only problem is she has to pretend to be someone else.
Is living your dream worth losing yourself?? Meanwhile, she’s falling for her music director. Side eye to him for other reasons. 😒 But it feels like destiny to her. Yana’s convinced she’s broken old patterns but I’m not sure. You can decide for yourself. Feels Like Destiny is available now on KU.
Yana moves to New York for her big break… and loses everything in ONE day. Instead of going home, she bets on herself and lands a Broadway role 👀 The catch? She’s replacing a missing actress. Enter Langston Washington—strict, intense, and chasing his own Tony dreams. What follows is mystery, pressure, emotional growth, and a love story between two people trying to prove they belong. And yes… I had to pause a few times because this one pulled emotions OUT of me. Kimberly Vargas did it again 🖤
This book had all the drama — it was a real page turner for me. I loved the Cinderella story within a story. I love the main character, Yana. She's too loud, too enthusiastic, and I'm so there for it. It was great seeing her get her HEA. I also loved going inside the production of a Broadway show. Super fun read!
This book had quite a few twists & turns. Yana! Yana! Yana! I love me some Jayana. She just wanted to be seen! And when Langston finally sees her the sparks fly. Ms. Mamas was a trained singer and actress (at least I think so after yrs of classes). She just needed a chance. And she received just that. Her roommates were trash. That daggone Alexia Hyrd (pronounced like Heard) was something else. Yana was her doppelgänger. This book was full of scandals and messiness that at the end seems to be worth it. This was a great book 2 for the series. 10/10 recommend 4.5 ⭐️

I loved this book!!! It’s a continuation of her book The Dance, and I loved the way this story played out. There’s suspense, tension between the characters and a lot of drama! I love the way Kimberly writes very real problems into her books, you will feel like you know the characters and want to root for them! I would 1000000000% recommend this book!
