The Ghosts We Shared: A Smalltown Romance

Old friends. Old flames. Old ghosts that never learned to rest.

Ten years ago, Shiloh Teague lost everything. Her boyfriend Aiden drowned. The friend who’d always loved her blamed himself. And the Epitaph Club—the ghost-hunting group that once made her feel alive—crumbled under the weight of guilt and grief.

Now she’s back in Morrow’s End, North Carolina, a weather-worn coastal town where the dead don’t rest—and neither does regret.

Beck Parish was the last person to see Aiden alive. He also died that night—just for ten minutes—but it was long enough to bring something back with him. He’s not sure what followed him home. Only that it wants her.

When the Epitaph Club reunites for a memorial, old feelings rise from the deep. Shiloh never stopped loving Beck…but she never forgave him either. Not for surviving. Not for vanishing when she needed him most.

But something is stirring in the surf—something lonely, hungry, and patient. And as the past begins to bleed through to the present, Shiloh and Beck will have to face the

The dead speak sweetly in Morrow’s End—but they never speak without a price.

Eden Audley writes the kind of books that stay with you long after you’ve read the final page. Her stories are filled with magic and mystery, and they always leave me wanting more. “The Ghosts We Shared” is no exception.

A group of friends once roamed the small coastal town of Morrow’s End, North Carolina. They called themselves the Epitaph Club. When one of their own was killed their senior year it caused the group to fracture. Secrets were buried along with the dead. But when they come back to their old hometown to mourn another member’s passing, the group finds that not all secrets should remain hidden.

Shiloh and Beck were never a couple, but both of them felt the attraction between them. When Beck’s best friend, and Shiloh’s boyfriend, Aiden found out, it lead to his death. And, briefly, Beck’s as well. Ever since, Beck has been in and out of treatment for the trauma he endured and the visions he now sees of his dead friend. When the group reunites, Beck finds himself with a second chance at the woman he has always secretly loved. Meanwhile, Shiloh is caught between her grief and her guilt. She’s tried to move on, but wonders if she left something precious behind.

I wish I was able to review Audley’s books with the same beautiful prose that she uses to draw me in and captivate me. I feel like I just cannot do justice to her work. “The Ghosts We Shared” is a haunting tale of grief and guilt, love lost and love found, friendship and family. It’s a ghost story bound in truth and substance, a story of learning when to let go and when to hold on tight.

I devoured this book. From the first page to the last, I was absolutely absorbed in the world and the characters Audley has created. This book surprised me in so many ways and even made me cry a time or two. Beck and Shiloh’s story was utterly irresistible. Audley has promised more from the Epitaph Club, and I cannot wait. Highly recommended.

ARC- review- This was so hauntingly beautiful with such a unique, spooky story. Such heavy themes are done with care. Mental health is a large part of this book, and, as a mental health professional, I found it was handled with accuracy and care. No notes.

The book starts with a large group of friends, and I wasn't sure I would remember who everyone was, but surprisingly, I only mixed up two of the boys a couple of times. Otherwise, everyone was so distinct that I had no issues.

Tropes:
gothic small town romance
Spooky suspense romance
It’s always been you
Second chance
Mental health rep
Twists and turns
Body horror
Spice was 4 out of 5 chilli peppers- nothing adventurous but common throughout the book. I felt it fitted the story well.
Check the triggers! Body horror, mental health, and off-page suicide talk.

Our FMC Shiloh lost her childhood boyfriend and has been carrying him around for years, harbouring guilt and anger. I loved the growth she showed.

Our MMC Beck is a broken man, losing his best friend when he survived, he has carried around guilt, feeling lost, and the vision of his dead best friend for years. Gosh, Beck's storyline was spooky, haunting, and so damn healing. He was a fantastically flawed, beautiful character.

This book was heavy, spooky, gothic and very spicy. If that's something you like, you will adore this.

Shiloh Teague lost her high school boyfriend, Aiden, to a terrible drowning accident ten years ago. Now she is back in the small coastal town of Morrow’s End, North Carolina to bury another friend and one of the original members of the Epitaph Club founded by the boyfriend she lost. Beck Prish, Aiden’s best friend since grade school also died that night, but it was only for about ten minutes, and to this day he doesn’t think he came back alone. He has never really been able to leave town and is haunted by the night his best friend died. The members of the Epitaph Club gather to remember those they lost and soon realize that dead doesn’t always mean gone.
These characters are all absolutely fascinating, beautifully written, realistic, and complex. They were just kids when they had to learn about loss and grief, and some of them were able to process those complicated emotions much better than others. I was riveted by these characters, and this narrative. A fantastic, spooky, small-town romance with some paranormal activities thrown in, some unexpected twists, some steamy romance, and a happily ever after. I loved this book and recommend it to anyone.

I have to start by saying this is one of the most hauntingly beautiful stories I have ever read. I love all the main and supporting characters, and the ‘world’ in which they live. I cannot wait to see where the series goes.

THE GHOSTS WE SHARED is a story that could be about any of us wallowing in the guilt of outliving a loved one. Beck and Shiloh’s story is devastating in its ability to connect to the most vulnerable places within, dragging to the surface all the broken pieces you thought buried with those you lost.

Beck and Shiloh’s story is a reminder to never let words be left unspoken, never give up on a friend, never cage your heart, and never, ever give up on love. *** Recommended ***

The Ghosts We Shared is a chilling tale of grief, haunting, and the lengths we go to overcome loss. Beck Parrish has been haunted by grief since he lost his best friend Aiden a decade ago when he almost died in the same accident. His spiraling symptoms led him to cut off his entire friend group until the death of another in the group leads to the reunion of the Epitaph Club. Reunited with the group and confronted with Shiloh, Aiden's girl, Beck learns his haunting grief might not be just grief after all.

The Ghosts We Shared is delightfully spooky from the first page. The descriptions of Beck's hallucinations and the encounters are so vivid it almost feels like you're there reading it. The Epitaph Club has amazing chemistry and they lighten the mood perfectly when needed. The budding relationship with Beck and Shiloh has so much tension it's oozing off the page like the seawater Aiden is spitting out.

I absolutely loved this story from the beginning. It was hard to put down and had just enough creep factor to balance out the more romantic parts. An absolute recommend.

This novel was like a spooky, small town, second chance romance book. It is unique in its story telling and the story itself draws you in.
Beck and Shiloh and their friends were just 18 when they lost their friend Aiden. Beck and Aiden had dared each other, one died that night and one barely escaped with his life. Years later, Shiloh shows back up home due to a friend’s funeral, and reconnects with the Epitaph club. She allows her feelings for Beck finely take over and the rest is a surprise for you to read!
Please read the trigger warnings and make sure you are okay with reading it. This book is spicy and open door.
Overall, a very unique spin on the small town romance and I really enjoyed it. I might even revisit it during the fall as a Halloween read.

Arc Review:
This book was phenomenal! Once I started it, I couldn’t stop! I could clearly see the story playing out in my head like a movie. The depth of Becks character is astounding. You can really feel their grief. I love how the ending played out, it was so nice and honestly, believable. If you take out the ghost aspect and just focus on their grief for their friend, this is what it would look like. We often put our dead loved ones on a pedestal. The way they found closure and really remembered Aiden was so refreshing. I loved everything about this book and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

This was a beautifully spooky read. If you liked Are You Afraid of the Dark as a 90s kid, The Ghosts We Shared has very similar vibes while also being its own thing entirely. The Epitaph Club is an eclectic group who show that the power of friendship and love really can overcome anything. Beck and Shiloh had such a deep connection with each other even through all of the tragedy they experienced. Aiden’s story was heartbreaking as well but everything tied together so nicely at the end. There were some parts where the sentence structure read a bit weird but other than that I really loved this book.

Brilliant. Perfect. Masterpiece. This book was so beautiful so well done and so haunting. The story between Shiloh and Beck is devastating. But also incredibly beautiful. A lesson in not letting words go unspoken, never giving up, and don't harden your heart. There is so much grief here. I could feel it. It was suffocating. No young kids should have to experience grief and loss like this. Its so eerie and creepy but intense and beautifully written. Honestly I cant say enough good things. It sort of ends in a bittersweet moment so I can't say it's happy but its not unhappy either.

Unresolved Histories and Briny Hauntings
Shiloh has come back the Morrow’s End for a funeral of an old friend. Ten years ago, her high school boyfriend died, but her friend Beck survived - and now they’ll see each other again, the first time since that last funeral. This story is moody and dark yet hopeful, with new beginnings and old guilt needing resolution. I loved this new crew, and I really loved Beck and Shiloh’s romance - so raw yet tender. A wonderful read.

A beautiful, tearjerking read full of loss, grief and friendship. Shiloh and Beck's story was creepy, chilling and so sad I'm places but the Epitaph Club members added some great humour. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Some books haunt you in the best possible way—and this one absolutely did

✨📚 Thank you Eden Audley for the chance to get my hands on this treasure before it was released to the public!

👻🔥 Hands down one of the BEST ghost stories I’ve ever read. Eden Audley is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I love her writing style and how she doesn’t shy away from tough subjects. While the themes can get heavy, she balances everything with humor. I was literally laughing out loud during one of the ghost scenes 😂 and had to explain myself when my family looked at me like I’d lost my mind.

I’ve read most of Eden Audley’s other series (still need to finish it!) and while I enjoyed that one too, this new series definitely hits harder emotionally. I also loved the little Easter egg she dropped with a familiar character cameo 🥚👀.

📅 Make sure to grab this when it releases on March 10! You will NOT be disappointed. Even better — it’ll be available on Kindle Unlimited! 📖💛 I’m already excited for the next book in the series.
