Freya Phillips’ life was flipped upside down when she lost the man she loved in a tragic accident. Now she has to piece together the remains of her shattered heart and try to find a way to push through her pain to get her life back on track. With reminders of what she’s lost at every turn, anxiety takes over and instead of moving forwards, she finds herself hurtling in the wrong direction.
Freya’s downward spiral leads her unexpectedly into the arms of one of her oldest friends, and as they seek comfort in each other, they realise they have more than just grief in common. Guilt-ridden and confused, Freya is too ashamed to tell anyone what she’s done, but there’s no such thing as a secret in Westberg. When the truth gets out, will Freya escape the gossip with her friendships and pride intact, or will she lose more than she ever bargained for?
Kyra is a self-confessed book-a-holic, and has been since she first learned to read. When she's not reading, you'll usually find her hanging out in coffee shops with her trusty laptop and/or her friends, or girling it up at the nearest shopping mall. Lennon is a proud supporter of several charities. She currently volunteers for her local cat shelter as a fundraiser and social media guru. Kyra has also had stories published in charity anthologies to raise money for Cats Protection, the British Heart Foundation, and the Innocence Project.
I could read this series forever. Freya and Miguel were hurting. There were lots of pages hard to read for all the loss of Will. Will was both Miguel and Freya's best friend. The club see it as a betrayal that Freya and Miguel see each other. This author shows us that while most people mean well, they haven't walked in your shoes. Life is short and who knows better. Everyone processes grief in their own way and time. I could always see how careful Freya was in prior books and how sensitive and sweet Miguel was. A good match and good read. I just wish I could read more!!!
Freya feels like she lost everything and trying to return to "normal" feels next to impossible. Her friends attempt to help her, but going back to work, where he's gone is harder. Will's gone and she can't find out how to move on. Miguel wants her to open up to him since Will was his best friend too, but she keeps pushing him away.
When Freya finally finds comfort and a little happiness, the guilt and shame is overwhelming. She just wants to be alone, but at the same time she wants to be happy. I loved Freya's real struggles in this book! The last book broke my heart and this one pieced it back together again as Freya began to heal from the loss. Also, I loved seeing Isabelle again! And Leah and Radleigh's great news - made me give a little squeal!
This was another great book in the Game On Series!! :)
This is book 4 of the Game On series and each book in this series has left you wanting more. This book was Fraya's story after losing Will and trying to piece her life back together. The emotion and heartfelt pain she goes through is shown physically and mentally. She has to go through many downward spirals before she starts to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
This was another book by Kyra Lennon that I enjoyed very much - the theme of loss & grief are treated with sensitivity and I could really relate to aspects of Freya's experience just from having lost friends.
The characters in this series are so much fun usually and there were elements of that in this read, but this is probably one of the more serious books I've ready by the author. Rightly so given the theme I suppose. Miguel is a sweetheart and I'm glad he let Freya have the space she needed to come to terms with everything.
I recommend reading Kyra Lennon's books if you haven't already.
Kyra Lennon's writing makes it so easy to slip back into the world of the Westberg Warriors - it's like meeting up with old friends. This time the focus is Freya, slowly coming to terms - or not - with the death of her boyfriend. The characters are so well drawn, with flaws and redeeming features - and Lennon gets right to the heart of their emotions. Once again, I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, because I need to know what happens next!
I read this via a boxset of this series previously bought and I'm glad I did as I've just jumped from 1 book to the next to the next and on..... This time giving us the story of Freya after book 3 saw her at the start of her having a heart breaking life changing experience. How will she continue... where will life take her... what does life without Will look like? Love how we continue to get updates on the whole gang in every book! Last book left to read and I can't wait to start!
All the feelings in this book! I don’t know what else to say.... this book read as part of the game on series boxset, hooked me in and kept me until I finished
Those of you who follow the Game On series will already be familiar with the characters, and know that life in Westberg moves pretty quickly!
In Play On (Freya's story) I didn't fully expect the story to go the way it did - as so often happens, Freya popped up inside my head and told me what she wanted to do. As I looked back on what I'd written, the story plays out the only way that truly makes sense for her, even if things do move rather more quickly than you'd expect. I truly hope you enjoy the story, and understand that the ending isn't "the end" - there is still more to come in the final book!
Play On, much like Sidelined, took a few turns I wasn't expecting. It's super hard to write anything about this book as I don't want spoilers to ruin it for anyone, but what I will say is that there is a LOT of heart in this story. If you enjoy reading books about people finding their way after losing everything, you will enjoy Play On!
