Happy, thank you. More, please.: How I got grateful, stayed mortified, and learned to trust the universe

Rate this book
'When I was twenty-one, I met a girl who introduced me to five magic words that changed my Happy, Thank You. More, Please.'

Kyla Cobbler's path to self-love hasn't run smoothly. From questionable dating decisions, to using booze to quell her constant Irish state of mortification, to getting wrongly arrested for drug smuggling - sometimes it's been hard to believe that the universe has her back.
But when Kyla began opening herself up to gratitude - for the tiny victories, not just the big firework moments - and learned to trust her instincts, she began to realise that she had the power to create her own happiness.
With raw honesty and wit, Happy, Thank you. More, Please., chronicles Kyla's journey from performing as the person she thought she should be, to discovering the chaotic, complicated, unapologetically imperfect woman she actually is. This is a book about falling in love with your real self - not because you've fixed everything, but because you've finally stopped trying to.

Love her and loved this book. Of course it was hilarious, but her honest writing and narration were phenomenal too. I smashed this in one day in the garden. I watched Kyla kill it at a stand up show she was hosting in Barcelona in 2024 with an audience of about 20. We spoke afterwards and she was so genuine, warm and quick. It has been so cool to watch her blow up and she deserves it!

I’m not sure why I picked this. I’d never heard of Kyla Cobbler before listening to this audiobook and the blurb sounded as if it could be a smug ‘how to live your life as brilliantly as I do’. Kyla is warm, bubbly and interesting. Really enjoyed.

Kyla just has a way of completely pulling me in 🥹✨ This was such a beautiful, emotional read with characters I genuinely cared about. I loved the atmosphere, the storytelling and all the little moments that made this feel so special.

A book that made me laugh, made me feel ALL the feelings, and left me with the biggest book hangover 🫶🏻 love Kyla and how she delivers a story. Great to get to know more about her ✨️

Happy, thank you. More, please. by Kyla Cobbler publishes with Hachette Ireland September 1st and is described as a memoir written ‘with raw honesty and grit’.

Kyla Cobbler was a name unfamiliar to most people until the Covid Pandemic unleashed itself on the world in 2020. Like many, Kyla needed a distraction. Following a move to Barcelona, she began to create fictional characters via her Instagram reels that proved to be very popular. Her sense of humour and her refreshing honesty provided the perfect distraction for both herself and her viewers. But unbeknownst to the world at large Kyla was struggling. She had been through some very turbulent years leaving her quite fragile. She presented an image of confidence and strength but beneath it all Kyla was drinking heavily and in quite a vulnerable state.

She did her first open mic in 2021, providing her with a whole new career, which has since seen her catapulted on the global stage via her social media where she has, to date, over 1 million followers. She has sell out shows across many countries, including Ireland, her home country. These shows have been described as ‘a riotous success’, with her audience soaking up the craic and truthfulness of her act. But her journey to this point has been far from easy.

Kyla Cobbler was born into a low income family in Cork. Academically she struggled, leaving school with no career path and little ambition. (Kyla Cobbler was later diagnosed with dyslexia and dyspraxia). She worked in the bar-trade for awhile, eventually making her way to Italy, where she remained for a number of years. Working hard, and playing hard, she found herself in a difficult relationship which had a huge impact on her mental health. She left Italy, settling in Barcelona, where her life changed track when she eventually reached a turning point.

In her memoir Happy, thank you. More, please. she openly speaks about her past, her relationship with men, alcohol, and other substances, and how she eventually discovered gratitude. Kyla Cobbler’s appeal is her openness, her integrity and her approach to self. Frustrated by the portrayal of young women online, and in society in general, she uses her platform to fight back, encouraging people, through humour and candour, to be their true self. Her gratitude model is very straight-forward and can easily fit into our daily lives. Using five simple words she explains the concept and how to practise it, giving common-sense examples and realistic situations.

Kyla Cobbler does not claim to be an expert on life. Her lack of any pretention, or as we say here in Cork, notions, is both refreshing and heart-warming. Reflective and sincere Happy, thank you. More, please. is an insightful memoir stressing the importance of loving YOU and the acceptance that YOU is enough.

My first audio book ... and possibly my first Good Reads review...

I didn't really know Kyla before I read her book. She popped up in my feed from time to time but I didn't actually follow her. Which is probably why, when I heard her on a podcast promoting it, I was intrigued by her stories but wasn't sure I wanted to buy the book. So I gave it a go on Spotify and I'm so glad I did.

Kyla has had a fascinating life of ups and downs, with so so many stories I could relate to as someone who lived abroad for a lot of my 20s and 30s. Having the audio book play while on walks and pottering around the house was like having a friend chatting away. A really funny friend. I know people say books are 'laugh out loud'. I never laugh out loud when I'm reading, even if it's funny. But this is one of a few books that I genuinely did... well... more like the kind of involuntary laugh you suppress to a smile when out in public.

But it's more than just her stories. It's about having gratitude and perspective -- in case the title doesn't give it away. Appreciating the small things. Which stuck with me more than I realised. I was about to cross the road the other day and it went green at exactly the right time and I thought to myself "happy thank you more please".

So all this to say, loved it Kyla. More please!!

A great autobiography. Kylas humour and wit shines thoughout. She has such a torn of phrase but also dealt with some serious issues. I devoured it reading it in one day.
