Chi is sure that she's in for a boring summer. Her dad just tagged her along to visit her grandparents in a far-away province. She doesn't even remember the last time she saw Lola Cora and cranky Lolo Vic. Then Chi meets a new friend, Aya, who shows her a rusty old jeepney that turns out to be more marvelous than meets the eye...
Galileo Summer follows the little girl Chi, who travels with her father back to the province during the summer. It has been a long time since she last saw her grandparents. While Chi is still adjusting to her new surroundings in the province, she meets a new friend, Aya. Aya invites Chi to a secret spot where they can be anyone they want to be.

I got a copy of Galileo Summer after I finished the Araw ng Libreng Komiks stamp rally. While browsing through it, the colors and drawings reminded me so much of the vibrant summers I used to have back in the province with my grandparents and cousins. I knew it was going to be a nostalgic ride, and hey, it’s summertime. It’s literally the perfect time to read it.
For context, I have always lived in the city. But when I was younger, my family and I would frequently visit our relatives in Abra, where I used to spend my entire summer break from school.
Reading Galileo Summer was truly a trip down memory lane. I could feel the homey vibe of the province, the warmth of the dishes that I could only eat there, and even the joy of the kids playing around until the sun went down just from reading the book. I’ve always loved the feeling I get whenever I have the chance to spend time in the province, where everything feels peaceful and I get to enjoy the fresh air.
It’s rare for a book to make me feel at home, and that is exactly how Galileo Summer made me feel.
I also loved how there were behind-the-scenes about how the book came to be. I've always loved seeing concept art and reading more about the creative process of the books that I really enjoyed so that was an absolute treat for me.
Kudos to Patricia Ramos for this wonderful book. I hope to read more of her works in the future!
