After reading Finding Home, I was intrigued to see where this spinoff would go. I was really impressed with how this was done. It ties into finding Home nicely, and is a really fun spin off, following a mystery from 20 years ago.
Great work Lucy. I look forward to seeing more stories set in this world!
Finding Truth by Lucy Brighton is a wonderful Novella that follows on from Finding Home.
Set shortly after the events in the first book, the story follows the subsequent police investigation into the trafficking and a gun that links events on the pier and an unsolved murder in leeds some years prior.
Once again the author excels in handling sensitive subjects thoughtfully and that goes a long way when creating a truly gripping psychological thriller.
There needs to be more of these short stories written. Novels are wonderful as was the finding home novel before this but these short story are great for an evening read to finish start to finish.
You dont need to have read finding home but it does help as you know the background the characters and gives it more depth than reading as a stand alone.
Well written again with different pov and different times but it flows. Sometimes books like this become disjointed but everything happens in the right order to build to whats happening and have you fully involved and understanding.
I am looking forward to future books from this author particularly if there is a novella here and there as supplement to her stories.
This novella is a thrill ride from start to finish. Such a well constructed and compact story, you can't help but turn the page to find out what happens next. You dont need to have read Finding Home to read this but it helps with some of the characters. The creepy stalker vibes hits and is effective, you will be looking over your shoulder. There is a lot to love with this novella and I am intrigued to see where the author takes the detectives because there is a lot of depth to explore with the characters. You want something to ease your reading slump? You want a quick fix thriller? Read Finding Truth!
This is an action packed Novella linked to the world of Cedarthrope...a place I'd not be inclined to visit! There's multiple POVs, which create some excellent tensions asthe past collides with the present. I feel like this was both an origin story and a satisfying ending and as always I loved Lucy's writing style. She creates such vivid scenes and I loved this as such as Finding Home. 5 stars 🌟
This is a great Novella by Lucy Brighton. The story is excellent, well paced, and draws you into the story, wanting to know more. It is full of menace, intrigue, and power. A really good well written story.
What a great little novella. I loved being taken straight back to Cedarthorpe and how it links back into Finding Home. Thank you so much for my signed copy Lucy - can’t wait for Finding Grace to be released 🥰
I read this in one sitting as it’s a short read. I enjoyed hearing the story from a different perspective. I don’t want to talk about the books content as it would spoil it for any reader but it 100% is worth picking up a copy
I read Finding Home a while ago and loved it, so I was excited to get my hands on this follow on novella, and it didn't disappoint. The writing is beautifully descriptive, and the storyline of a cold case involving a young woman being stalked is intense. Using various perspectives; the perpetrator, the young woman and the police was a perfect way to tell this story. I would highly recommend picking up the first book, Finding Home, and reading this one straight after.
Thank you Lucy for giving me the opportunity to ARC read, Finding Truth.
Finding Truth is a novella where the past bleeds into present. When the residents of Cedarthorpe thought everything was over and that there was closure, they were wrong. A gun hauled from the sea, a link to a 20 year old cold case, and a secret brought to light, DI Bostwick has the chance to redeem and expose.
If you enjoyed Finding Home, you’ll enjoy Finding Truth. It’s just as fast paced, engaging and intense. The different POV’s grab your attention and have you wanting to read on. Knowing how the character’s are feeling and what they’re doing at that moment in first person just hits you differently. So if you have read Finding Home, I implore you to read this novella as it should give you some answers to questions, I guarantee you have.
If you haven’t read Finding Home, then Finding Truth won’t make much sense, so go read that first. It’s no longer an option, if this novella has popped up as a “you may be interested in”, then you have an obligation to read Finding Home first. Trust me, it’s worth it.
The descriptions of emotions and environments have you feeling like you’re there, in the book. Like you’re a fly on the wall, as if you’re watching the characters, feeling their pain and distress, but also the relief they sometimes feel. Every emotion they feel, you feel it too. The only way to stop it, is to stop reading, or finish the book. And I have a feeling and would bet on it, that you’ll want to do the latter option.
This novella maybe small (98pages), but it definitely packs a punch! A phycological thriller that expertly builds the tension page after page, until you reach a point where it taps into those primitive warning bells that you will want to shout at the characters to 'Don't go there!!'
A dark & gritty account of an incident that happened 20years previous & shows how actions can create & mould a persons future, & what those implications can result in years later.
Overall, I loved how this novella could promote such emotive reactions whilst at the same time giving more of a backstory to some of the main characters from 'Finding Home' an excellent addition to the series - would 100% recommend reading this after 'Finding Home'.
** Thank you to Lucy Brighton for ARC read, I am leaving this review voluntarily **
Brighton does something rare here — she makes the past feel dangerous in the present. A gun pulled from the sea. A teenage boy shot dead in Leeds twenty years ago. A detective who hunts truth while hiding her own. Finding Truth connects all of it with quiet, precise storytelling that never wastes a word. What stays with you is Star Bright — a young woman watched, followed, terrorised by someone who treated her rejection as an invitation. Brighton writes that kind of threat exactly as it feels in real life: slow, suffocating, and too easy to dismiss until it's too late. DI Bostwick is a brilliant creation. A detective caught between redemption and exposure is far more interesting than one with nothing to lose, and Brighton knows it. Cedarthorpe has memory. It has shame. And in this book, it finally starts paying its debts. One of the most gripping reads of the year.
I have been meaning to post my review of this fascinating dark thriller. The author weaves suspense like she's been doing it for years, and crafting it is a skill, one the author is a natural at. The tension build up was dark, gritty and intense, exactly what a thriller lover wants. A 20-year case comes to the forefront, past and present collide, the stark truth lurking in the shadows. This is an edge-of-your-seat ride and one I could not down. If you have not read Finding Home, I would highy recommend that you do, as this book ties in. A fantastic book. Looking forward to the next one.
*Edits to review now that I’ve read the released version *
The extra detail and emotion stakes that have been added to this book since I had the honor of beta reading really add an extra layer to what is a truly fantastic read.
Lucy, you were right, the extra additions were disgusting

Thank you to Lucy for letting me beta/ARC read this book. It is a spin-off novella from her debut novel, Finding Home (if you have not read that, do that first, otherwise major aspects of the main novel’s plot will be spoiled). It is a gripping psychological thriller with a mystery element that combines events from the main novel with a cold case.
The characters are all extremely well rounded and gripping. Their stories will have you on the edge of your seat and flying through the pages to see how it all unfolds. It also had me questioning my moral compass (if you know, you know).
I also really enjoyed the flicking between past and present. It felt as though I was combing through the evidence alongside the characters and slowly putting the pieces together.
It is slightly different from Lucy’s other work in that it is more psychologically disturbing than anything else. The scarier aspects that I have come to love about Lucy’s writing come more from the perspectives and behaviours of the characters instead of terrible things happening to them, which is a nice and welcome change. I have not personally read many thrillers like that. Loved every second of it.
