“No outside threat would touch her. But who the hell was going to keep her safe from him?”

We first met Sara Reaver in ‘Mistaken by Fate’. She’s Garrett and Will’s baby sister and now that she’s in trouble, her uncle decides to send her away. The one assigned to watch over her is Zebadiah 'Z’ Loreto, a military man, friend of her brother Garrett. Sara wants to spend her last night before she goes away at Serve. There she meets for the first time her bodyguard, Z. They both are attracted to each other from the beginning. Z knows Sara is off limits. She’s supposed to be only a body to guard, but he wants much more with her. Sara has other ideas. She wants to play, she pushes him giving up his control trying to seduce him.

“Please, Z. Play with me.” She went to her knees. “Command me.” And then to all fours. “Fuck me.”

Z tries to keep control of himself, but with a woman like Sara is more than difficult. He forgets very easily she’s Garrett’s sister. He’s very weak when it comes to this gorgeous blonde woman.

description

Sara doesn’t do relationships. She knows how hard is to forget someone you love, how hard is to move on, so she tries to stay away from love. Z has his own issues. He had been burned before, so he needs to maintain his control.

I liked both main characters. Sara is smart, beautiful and knows what she wants. She goes for it. She’s a little smart mouthed and I liked that about her.

“You’re a mouthy little sub, aren’t you? Do you know what mouthy little subs get?”
“A mouthful of cock?” She hissed out a breath when he spanked her again. “Sir.”

She isn’t shy, she’s adventurous, she’s confident and she keeps Z on his toes. Z wasn’t as badass as I expected him to be. But that was ok. He has some other qualities that I loved. He’s sexy in bed and outside of bed he’s sweet, protective and considerate. He is also patient with Sara when she doesn’t want to think and talk about her past. Their chemistry is intense from the beginning and the sex scenes are hot and at times sweet. The BDSM aspect is very light, but I can’t complain since is not my genre of choice.(some spanking, some restrains, wax play, so nothing heavy)

I liked Sara and Z together and I enjoyed the moments between them when they get to know each other. I also enjoyed the sweet epilogue. What I didn’t like (of course) was the unnecessary drama.

Overall, a great light, sexy and steamy read!

If there was one woman on this earth off limits, it was Little Sara Reaver. And she was the one woman he wanted more than his next breath.

Ever since we first met Sara Reaver as the smart mouthed best friend of Ridley and younger sister of Garrett and Will in Mistaken by Fate, I just knew her story will have to be a good one. With two overprotective Dom brothers; 1 in the military, and 1 a successful business owner, Sara is no pushover herself. She's a fixer and there's no job that she can't get done...until she pushes too far and her uncle sends her away with a protection detail no less.

Sara, much like her two brothers, has been scarred by her mother's abrupt departure from her life. She's not looking for a happily ever after any time soon, but she's certainly not willing to give up her orgasms in the meantime either. This is a woman that owns her sexuality without any qualms. I actually really enjoyed that about her. Usually there's a fine line for me between brazen and brash, but Sara was always on the right line of things for me. She's smart mouthed and knows what she wants. She also isn't shy about going after what she wants. And when she goes to Serve to enjoy her last night of "freedom" and comes face to face with her 'protection detail', a night with a Dom to pacify her needs just won't do. The dark and broody Z enthralls her. And the fact that he seems to thwart her advances intrigues her.

Z was definitely one sexy sexy man. A true military man, and he likes control both in the field and in the bedroom. While the gorgeous blonde certainly calls to the Dom in him, the fact that she's his charge and his friend's younger sister puts a big hands-off sign on her. But there's only so long that Z can control his urges for, especially when Sara makes it her mission to seduce him.

This was another super sexy addition to the Serve series and one I definitely enjoyed quite a bit. The pace of Sara and Z's relationship seemed almost unrealistically quick, but then again, it is what it is. It did have a great epilogue which was the perfect cherry on the cake. I found this to be a little less BDSM-y (yes, I'm making that a word) than the last book, but no less hot. Fans of the series will definitely enjoy this one.

Update 2023
Wow, I don't know how many times I re-read this one. It's still as good as I remember. I decided to ignore some inconsistencies and up it all the way to 5 stars because I just keep coming back for it no matter what.

2021 Reread and it was as good as I remembered.

The heroine was sassy and fun, the hero intense and passionate. They had great chemistry, even though it kind of fizzled out toward the end, replaced with angst and drama, but also sweetness. So yeah, I liked it.

4 - "You pleased me tonight." Stars!

Another really great addition to the Serve series, I would even say that Z and Sara’s story is a very close second to my overall favorite.

”Don’t make this any more difficult than it has to be.”

I think the main reason I liked it was the fact that it was just two people, with a deep attraction to each other, doing something about that attraction. Yes there was a little reluctance at the beginning, being that we are talking about a protector/protectee set up. But once those barriers were thrown aside, they were both, sexy-hot and raring to go. There isn’t a huge amount of secondary character involvement for a lot of the book either, so the focus being solely on them gave it a great depth of emotion, and pulled me in as a reader.

The tropes used are tried and tested winners, I think Katee’s writing style really worked for this couple, Sara was a little sassy, Z was action and dirty words, but when the softer side of him came out to play, just loved him, I’d happily Sub for him any day!

She was a temptation he’d never expected and couldn’t resist.

Another great book from Katee Robert, easily could be read as a stand-alone, and if you are looking for a few hours of sexy reading, Protecting Fate is definitely worth a second look.

3.75 patient predator stars

The next instalment in this Serve series is dished up by Katee Robert and stars Sara Reaver; Will and Garrett's younger sister.

Working for her uncle, Sara has upset someone whilst going about her fixing, and finds herself secluded away and being baby sat by Zebadiah "Z" Loreto; a mean, muscled, aesthetic military friend and colleague of her brother, Garrett.

Z finds himself up close and far too personal with his best friends sister...and she's pushing it, pushing him to play, given the environment of Serve, where they initially find themselves. She's off limits, he tells himself, and he most definitely cannot reveal his deepest, darkest inclinations. Z's previous experiences have left him extremely guarded, and he desperately needs to maintain his control.

Sara is flirtatious and flighty, when it comes to attracting her men, and her three time rule helps to protect her resolve. She is a girl who knows what she wants, so she pokes and she pokes, in a bid to test Z’s rigid control.

"Love couldn't hurt her if she didn't give it a chance."

I was excited to launch into this latest series offering, which has been brought to us by both Katee Robert and Tessa Bailey in the past. I have enjoyed, in equal measure, both of their contributions, each portraying characters with complex, yet engaging and most delicious attributes.

It did, however, take me a little while to warm to Z's steadfast, yet sultry nature. I don’t quite know what didn’t initially engage me, but this couple soon got into their D/s groove, whilst they were holed away, and I became suitably enamoured by the shift in dynamics that were laid before us.

I had a complete turnaround towards Z, and adored his caring, protective nature towards Sara. His patience, whilst she came to terms with the demons from her past, was extremely endearing. I enjoyed the storyline, albeit predictable. Sadly, there was a slight sour element in the underwhelming conclusion to the initial threat imposed, but hey...still a great member of this series.

”For a man of few words, he sure had a lot to say once he got going."

This is definitely one of those times where you’ll need to take everything here with a grain of salt. Please note that I read this shortly after a very angts-y read which I neither loved nor hated, but just really angst-y nonetheless. That may have affected how I felt about this book. Even so, an Entangled Brazen read typically cleanses the palate just right for me and gets me moving. With it usually being a quick read, having a nice easy flow to the story, and smokin’ heat, how can it not?

Did I get that here? Umm, not sure…

Quick read? Check. Easy flow to the story? Check. Smokin’ heat? Check. BUT, I felt very little connection to the characters and story, to a point that I skimmed a bit here and there.

Sara supposedly does the kind of work with potential danger involved. And because of a recent threat from her work, she needed to lay low and have some protection. Enter Z. Z, who just wants to do the work and didn’t want any personal involvement as he’s been burned before. Of course there’s this immediate attraction that neither one understands. Actually, neither do I.

I’m sorry but Sara, for the kind of work she does, didn’t really came across as bada$$. Either that, or I had a different expectation. Z being about control didn’t really have much and the way Z opened up about his past didn’t feel too masculine either, if that makes sense.Yes, they're both broken and all because of their past, but honestly, I couldn't bring myself to care enough:o And the drama at the end felt a lil cliché for me. Oh, and the whole time I was reading this, it really felt like a lite version of some of my fave romance writer’s books, from some of the scenes to the BDSM elements, which normally doesn’t happen for me when I read any Entangled Brazen.

In the end, for what it’s worth, what saved it for me are the smexy times when Z lives up to my expectation of an Entangled Brazen H. *g*

Well now that the Reaver twin brothers are all matched up with their significant others, it is now time to shine the light on their baby sister Sara Reaver. Well when trouble finds Sara, her uncle sends her away for her safety and she is assigned a bodyguard to watch over her. Well this new babysitter is none other than Z, a sexy gorgeous friend of her brother, Garrett.

From the instant that they laid eyes on each other, Sara wanted him and vice versa. Z tried to keep the lines of profession but when Sara kept challenging him, he knew he couldn't resist. When Z and Sara embark on their new dom-sub relationship, the act of submission got a whole new sexy. Sparks flew. Desires ignited. Chemistry sizzled. And, love was beginning to stir and open hearts for two closed off individuals. But when Sara does not submit to one order Z has for her, will these two strong independent people find and reach a compromise or will Sara be too stubborn and set in her ways?

Katee Robert never fails to deliver a sexy book. And in Protecting Fate, she has once again made a sexy BDSM book. Z was definitely an alpha dominant who loves control and I love that Sara constantly challenges him outside the bedroom. Ms. Robert has deliciously served up a hot, sexy, panty-melting book that will have you craving for more Z and Sara. Protecting Fate was another great read to the series.

This was a quick and spicy 🌶 read, sprinkled with some kinky moments.
It was enjoyable if not very original, but the ending was satisfying, and the plot was pretty straightforward and uncomplicated.

Some things I didn't love in this story: Sara was almost harassing Z at the beginning of the book, touching his 🍆 without real consent on his side 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️
Also, there's a scene at the pool where she's naked, and she's practically begging for him to take her. Meanwhile, Z is trying to stay in control and not succumb to her temptation, so he rejects her advances again (for the third time after the club, and the car). Any self-respecting woman would take the hint and moved on, but not Sara 😩. She pursued Z relentlessly, which seemed a bit desperate imo. I think that the author was going for an MMC, which was stoic and impenetrable, but he seemed a bit passive and repressed to me (at the beginning of the story, until he snaps).

If you like KR's books, you'll most likely enjoy this one, too.

Happy reading! 📚

I loved Katee Robert's first two books in the Serve series so was really looking forward to getting to know Garrett and Will's baby sister Sara. I knew I'd enjoy Protecting Fate but I didn't think it would be possible to top Garrett and Will as some of my favourite dominant heroes, until I met Z that is! I have to say I think this was Katee Robert's hottest story yet and I absolutely loved the chemistry between Z and Sara, in fact if it hadn't been for one of my least favourite tropes being used towards the end of the book this would easily have been my favourite instalment in the Serve series.

Sara works for her uncle as a Fixer but she's got in a little over her head and now has someone out to get her. Her uncle and brothers want her out of the city where she will be safe but they're sending a team along just to make sure she is protected. The last thing Sara wants is a babysitter but there is something about Z that draws her like a moth to a flame. Z only took the job as a favour to his best friend Garrett and getting involved with Sara would be wrong on so many levels but no matter how hard he tries to resist she manages to push all his buttons. Sara knows what she wants and she isn't taking no for an answer.

Sara and Z have absolutely fantastic chemistry right from the moment they lay eyes on each other. Sara is a strong and confident woman, someone who is capable of standing on her own two feet and who is highly independent but she loves to submit in the bedroom. She has very strict rules though and will never sleep with a guy more than three times because she absolutely doesn't want any kind of a relationship. She's seen first hand what happens when a marriage goes bad and she refuses to open herself up to that kind of hurt. Z also has very good reasons to be wary, he's been badly burned before and has had his Dominant side locked down tightly for a long time. Sara brings it bubbling to the surface and even though he knows how dangerous it is he just can't seem to help himself around her.

I loved both of these characters and I loved the fact that Z was quite quick to make up his mind about what he wanted. Once he'd set his sights on Sara he wasn't going to settle for anything less than being a permanent part of her life and as much as she resists him for a while it didn't take too long for him to worm his way into her affections. I really enjoyed seeing them learn to open up and trust each other both in and out of the bedroom. I already mentioned that there was one particular thing that happened towards the end that I wasn't happy with but that's more down to a personal preference than something that will bother most readers and I can't really say too much about it without giving spoilers. All I'll say is that it felt like a way of adding drama when there didn't really need to be any but I was happy that the problems didn't continue for too long and both Sara and Z were adult enough to admit their mistakes and move forward. They did both need a kick to get them there but that gave us the opportunity to see a couple of characters from the previous books so it wasn't all bad. I think I just would have preferred the drama in the story to have come more from the storyline of someone being after Sara, that would have felt more natural and would have added more pace to the story overall.

The important thing is that everything worked out okay in the end and I absolutely loved the little epilogue. Sara and Z were such a cute couple, their chemistry was fantastic and Protecting Fate was a hot as hell story. If you're looking for a steamy read you can't go wrong with any of Katee Robert's instalments in this series (Mistaken by Fate, Betting on Fate and Protecting Fate) and although each of these books does work as a stand alone story I would highly recommend all three of them.

There's a reason I never hesitate to read Katee Robert's books; I know I'm highly unlikely to be left disappointed. Protecting Fate is another great addition to the Serve series. We've been well acquainted with the Reaver men, identical twins Garrett and Will, and now it's their younger sister Sara's turn, and from the glimpses we've had of her in Mistaken by Fate and Betting on Fate, it was going to take a patient, assertive guy to take on this independent, confident lady.

description

When Sara upsets some folk, her uncle sends her out of New York City for her own protection. She's not happy, she's vocal about it and the guy at the end of her irritation is Garrett's buddy and colleague, Z Loreto; the guy drafted in to protect her. She unleashes feelings he's kept buried for years and she's persistent. Question is, can she can break through Z's exterior? Or rather, can he break through hers...

description

Whilst in keeping with the previous books in that we have an attentive Dom who isn't detached or cold, Z was less dominant than Garrett and Will and feelings played more of a part earlier on which suited this reader just fine. Sara is familiar to the D/s scene, she's feisty and confident enough to go for what she wants but she also has a vulnerability about her. As does Z, and this brought the softer moments to the story. I liked Sara's sass and confidence and liked her and Z together; with a sexy heated yet natural chemistry, they're a couple you can't not want to work out.

“Touch yourself when you think about me tonight.”

If I'm honest, it didn't hold any real surprises and I must confess I would've liked a little more action with relation to the protection side of the story, but this is minor because Katee Robert has brought her readers another sexy instalment to the series and I have no doubt Sara and Z will prove a popular couple. And whilst it can easily be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading Garrett and Will's stories too.

I really enjoyed Katee's other two contributions to this series, Will is my dominant boo. We met their baby sister Sara in Garett's book and I knew she was a wildcard, not sure why she wasn't to my liking, she just got on my nerves until she was in the BDSM scenes with Z.

The story-line was enjoyable and I liked Z, it was short and good for what it was, just not my fave.

Originally posted on my blog: Tangled Up In Books

I received a copy of this book, from the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. In no way did this sway either my review or my rating!

A bunch of two word phrases are rattling around in my brain after finishing Protecting Fate. "Hell yes!", "Oh...wow...", "More please?!" just to name a few. The rest gradually build up until there's lots of cursing involved so I'll just let you use your imaginations. I seriously cannot get enough of the Serve series and all of these characters. They are just the right amounts of romance, angst and mind blowing naughtiness.

I'm just going to cut to the chase and tell you why this is my favorite book in this series otherwise I'm going to have a hard time concentrating on what I want to say. Z. I don't think I've loved that letter of the alphabet more than I do at this moment. As most of you probably know I am crazy about my alpha males. Z brings a whole new meaning to that phrase though. I don't think I've ever quite come across a guy with his level of alphaness (It's a word!) before and not ended up completely annoyed. I love Z though. He's got this quiet protectiveness that once you draw him out just a little all you want to do is engage him more and bring everything to the surface. And I love the fact that his quiet protective side tempered the alpha side of him in some ways and that beneath all those hard and commanding layers there was also a softer side. And even a funny guy. He wasn't completely rigid, he knew how let loose a bit, well as loose as you can get with a mercenary.

I have been so excited to have a story for Sara Reaver. I absolutely adored her after reading Mistaken by Fate, her brother Garrett's story. She was the female that I was most hoping would eventually get a book. Sara's one of those girls who is submissive...but very feisty. I like the girls who don't just, for lack of a better phrase, lay down and take it. I like my characters to have fight and a little bit of backbone and Sara has both of those things. She keeps Z on his toes and really gets under his skin and makes him lose control. Something he never, ever does. Sara's story was everything I had hoped it would be and more.

I loved that there was a bit of a dangerous element to this book. It was fitting having a character like Z that there should be some sort of threat to showcase the protective, soldier side of him. Though I guess if I were to have one complaint, and it will be the only one I do have, I think I would have liked to have seen more happen with that since it was the whole point of the storyline. As it was it just sort of cleared up and I felt just the tiniest bit of disappointment that the danger didn't get kicked up a notch or two. Though an even bigger part of me feels like if anything had happened Z probably would have snapped so maybe it was for the best.

The relationship between Sara and Z was the swooniest of all swoons. I couldn't get enough of these two and I was happy that for a good portion of the book they were sort of in a state of house arrest and away from other people. That the focus was just on them in this giant house. A house that, as big as it was, still ended up being too small to contain all the sexual tension that built up between them before Sara finally made Z's control snap.

Sigh.

Where was I?

Oh yes....

I really hope this isn't the end of this series. I don't know what I'm gonna do without new Serve books in my life! I tell you who else I would love to see get a story now that I've read Sara's, Nolan. *Gives Tessa Bailey and Katee Robert puppy dog eyes* I mean he's only been briefly in Will and Penelope's book and now in Sara and Z's, well to where it's more than a mention of his name that I remember anyway. But there's something that intrigues me about him. Regardless this series has been such a fun and exciting ride to this point. And Protecting Fate has been my favorite by a landslide.

Thanks to Entangled Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book!

First book I've read in this series and I wasn't lost at all. This book was really good but there could have been a little more suspense and drama over why she was in hiding. Z was a little wishy washy for me at times but I guess he had a reason. He was hot enough that I really didn't care. Sara was amazing but I'm still not sure what her job is. I'm gonna have to go back and read her brothers HEA because they were pretty awesome.

Fixer Sara Reaver is in serious trouble. She’s stepped on the wrong toes, and now her uncle is sending her out of the city in an effort to keep her safe—and he’s assigning her a glorified babysitter. The last person she expects to show up is the gorgeous Z, or for him to tempt her and then reject her in the space of a single night. Twice. Now she’s out to prove to him just how good they’d fit up together in every way imaginable.

Mercenary Z Loreto hates protection jobs, but he’s willing to make an exception for his best friend’s little sister. The only problem is she calls up things he’s been doing his damnedest to keep under wraps for the last seven years. But when she pushes him too far, it all comes rushing to the fore, and the fact she’s willing to submit to his every desire only makes the loss of control sweeter.

Sara and Z have a boatload of issues between them, but they’re sure they can make things work if they take it one day at a time… Right up until things spiral beyond their control. Now Z’s playing for keeps in a big way, and Sara’s got to decide if a chance at true happiness is worth the risk of repeating history.

REVIEW: PROTECTING FATE by Katee Robert is the sixth installment in the adult, contemporary SERVE erotic romance series, written by Tessa Baily and Katee Robert, focusing on a group of friends and family who frequent the BDSM club SERVE. This is security expert, former soldier, and mercenary Zebadiah ‘Z’ Loreto, and ‘fixer’ Sara Reaver’s storyline. Although PROTECTING FATE is the sixth in the series, it can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous storylines is imparted where necessary.

Told from third person point of view, the storyline focuses on protecting Sara from a threat. As a fixer, she tends to make a few people angry and in this, her life has been threatened for raising the ire of the wrong people. Sara’s Uncle Rodger and her brother Garrett have some connections and have hired a ‘babysitter’ to protect their niece and sister. Enter Z Loreto-a former soldier and a man who is all business but finds himself attracted to his latest charge.

Sara is a submissive in the bedroom and she wants to spend her last night of freedom at SERVE-the local BDSM club where she and her brothers are members. Sara had not expected to come face to face with the man in charge of her protection-a sexy, hardened warrior who knows a thing or two about domination. When Sara’s apartment is trashed, Z moves Sara out of town for her own protection.

Z is a man with a past; a history in the BDSM scene that has left him raw, damaged and vulnerable. Secluded in a safe house with Sara, their relationship becomes more personal as Sara pushes Z in more ways than one. As the days and weeks pass, Z’s need to protect Sara is more than professional; it becomes a need; a part of his heart as he begins to fall for the woman in his care and his bed. The $ex scenes are intimate, compelling and with a little bit of kink on the side.

The secondary and supporting characters include a few of the previous storyline couples including Sara’s brothers Garrett and Will, and Garrett’s fiancé Ridley, as well as Uncle Rodger who is all about protecting his family and friends.

The world building continues to follow the BDSM lifestyle at SERVE. There are no hard-core scenarios; most of the bondage and discipline scenes are light and meted with affection and love, and take place off the premise of the club. Z’s mercenary lifestyle comes into play when he is called away on another mission but we know very little about what goes on behind the scenes-I would have liked to learned more about what happened while he was away but the storyline focused more on Sara (back home). There is also an issue (for me) with the quick resolution to the threats against Sara; very little is mentioned after the first couple of chapters and then everything is back to normal with a phone call and a promise. In this, the suspense was lacking and the threats were barely an issue.

The SERVE series is co-written (three books each) by Katee Robert and Tessa Baily with each storyline focusing on a different couple who are members of the BDSM scene and club SERVE. Although the storylines are connected, they are not interconnected in such a way that cohesion and understanding are a problem. Each story ends with a happily ever after and a look towards the future. Katee Robert adds a little bit of romance, suspense and angst to the series with Z and Sara’s storyline.

Good fun, shallow plot, easy to forget…

Protecting Fate is the story of Sara and Z. Sara is a fixer who fixes herself right into having to run out of town to save herself from…I’m still not exactly sure. Whatever she was running from, it led her out to the random ass country where Z was assigned to protect her. Sara is freaky circa BDSM clubs and what-not and so is Z. Obviously these two lasted two minutes (possibly less) before sparks were flying like the Fourth of July. The problem is they have issues (surprise surprise) that must be overcome before we can get our HEA.

I don’t have much to say about this book. That is probably more a reflection of the book than my verbosity (OMG, I totally thought I was making that up but it appears to actually be a word). There wasn’t a whole lot to the book. Sara and Z were all alone in the middle of nowhere for the majority of the book going through the normal push and pull of lust v. the need for psychotherapy.

Neither Sara nor Z were developed enough as characters for me to tell you much about them. As the reader, we were given only a very limited view of both characters. The limitations were both in terms of the time that we are exposed to the characters and the breadth of their actual depiction. Despite the lack of substance surrounding their depiction, I did still have a general sense of their chemistry and I liked them as a couple.

There really isn’t much of a plot in this book. There are a couple of paragraphs devoted to developing some back story with Sara’s job and Z’s military history but we as the readers don’t experience any of that. It’s given to us in summary form. That’s not necessarily a bad thing but it can leave you with the impression that the book was lacking in depth.

The majority of the book is the depiction of the sexual exploration between Z and Sara. The sex scenes were ok-good but like the rest of the book, there was nothing striking about the sex scenes.

I know it might seem like I’m writing a bad review but I’m actually not. The book was an easy read and I enjoyed it. I just know that by the end of the week (or day) I won’t remember much about it and I won’t be able to distinguish it from the hundreds of other similar books I’ve read.

I am writing this review based on two things, what I read (which I really enjoyed) and what some of the other reviewers have posted.

Protecting Fate is the sixth installment in the Serve series, the third and final collaboration by Katee Robert. This was one I was highly anticipating and I am proud to say, did not disappoint me.

I truly appreciated that both of the authors who have worked on this series have kept the characters intertwined with the previous stories. This what makes a series, a series. Katee picked a family that was broken by someone who is supposed to provide unconditional love. All three of the Reavers need to possess control because of what had happened in the past. What they lost. The background story is clear in all three of the books.

The actual enigma in this story is Z. When he was introduced in Mistaken By Fate, it was clear that he was a man with a past. A man who went on missions because he was running from something. Which is why Sara was perfect for this mysterious man. While Z is running, Sara is fixer. A fixer because she is hiding. Hiding her secrets, hiding from herself. Those two characteristics is what makes this story sexy.

Based on what I've read from some of the reviews, they were looking for more details due to it being a serial standalone. It's a series based on the club and the how the characters connect. It's a standalone because the story is based on two people who have merely been introduced in the previous two books, but not elaborated on until now.

Ms. Roberts provided the sexy (and it was SUPER SEXY). I seriously loved this type of BDSM that was portrayed in all three books. Nothing heavy that would send me to cry in a corner. Light enough to pique my interest and tasteful enough to want to try some of the scenes. She gave the characters their pasts and she brought it home with how they connected and fought to maintain that feeling. It was instant chemistry, but they knew of each other's existence, so it made sense when the pull was there. In the end, she wrapped this series with a nice bow.

I look forward to more in the series and more books by Ms. Robert.

Honestly, I just didn't get this one at all. It made me question why I'm still reading this series. It's steadily going downhill and yet I can't seem to stop myself. It's like a runaway toboggan of half-assed writing. Usually I enjoy the Entangled books, but this one was definitely a big disappointment.

First of all, what was with all the nudity? Very early in the book Z rips off Sara's clothes in a towncar and in the next second she's walking down the street? Ummm...what happened to her clothes? Is she bare-assing it around town now? In New York? Pretty sure that would get uncomfortable pretty fast. Then she spends most of her time prancing around in the buff while under Z's protection at the safe house. Sorry, but that's not sexy. It's unsanitary. And don't even get me started with the multi-coloured candle-wax scene. I get that it was supposed to be erotic but all I could think of was, "who's going to clean that shit up?"

Usually I can look past these small issues. But there was also a real lack of connection between the two characters. I didn't buy them as a couple or even likeable characters. Their level of dysfunction seemed out of proportion to their respective emotional baggage and I didn't have a lot of sympathy or interest in either of them. I think I may have actually muttered "get over it already" to myself when Sara once again panicked over Z wanting more from her than sex.

Throw in the fact that Sara is forced into hiding because she's threatened by a business rival for some mysterious reason that is never satisfyingly explained and we have a half-assed attempt at a book at best. A business rival who conveniently forgives her a few days later with no repercussions or details provided, I might add.

Overall, the sex was pretty hot, (candle-wax = hot)but the book itself left me cold.

I cant believe this is already the 6th book in this wicked hot series. It's like you just blink and a new hot and heavy book is out. Tessa and Katee have really done a good job with this series and I find myself devouring each and every one of these books.

This time it is Sara Reaver's turn to find her HEA. You may remember her from previous book as being the twins Will and Garrets baby sister. She finds herself in a spot of trouble and her brother assigns his good friend Z to become her babysitter/body guard. Of course Sara is not happy about this at all, until she meets the hot and mysterious Z.

Z has not been in the "lifestyle" for 7 years now as he was previously married and it did not end well for him when he spouse claimed he "abused" her. When he meets Sara at Serve, he knows immediately that he wants to dominate her and do all sorts of wicked things to her.

They agree on a 3 times only limit and that is when the fun and games begin. Only problem is none of them planned on loosing their heart to each other in the process.

Another great read in this epic series, and even if you have not read any of the books previously ( and you really should), it can still be read as a stand alone and enjoyed tremendously.

Just can't stay away or out of this place having to see who has come to play next. This author sure knows how to entice the reader in and beckon them to stay awhile as she takes you on another couple who will bite the dust. Sara has been told she has to lay low awhile for her own good but play one last time before she hits the road is in her line of sight. Z being the best has been put on her detail but little did he realize it was going to start early. Both have their own desires and own rules but once they meet up the rules go out the window thanks to the spark the burns them both. Since his desires run similar to hers but have not been out to play in awhile he will be voracious. This author shows how protecting can be so much more than meets the average case thanks to their chemistry that goes oh so well together. But wait these two will also be presented with a big reward to their union that will lead them to deciding what will be the most important to them both. Done with the style that this author knows how to lay down with a storyline that has more than just meat to it, it also has dessert. Received a copy for a honest review.

This series is one of those just all around fantastic. I think I fall a little more in love with it with each book. Sara's books was one of my favorites yet, and I loved that some of the other characters show up from time to time.

Sara and Z? Oy, that is one couple that just works. The pair of them burn up the pages. Z is the best kind of dom (who am I kidding, all doms are great ;) ) but he is reluctant, but totally comes out of his shell from his mysterious past. And Sara, well, she isn't submitting to just anyone.

How intertwined this series is is really awesome - all the characters are so tied to one another, so while they all can be read as standalones, I find it much more fun to read them in order.

I think this may have been my favorite of Katee Robert's books yet. Z and Sara just stole my heart, and damn, are there some scorching moments between then!

This is one delicious book. Our H is charged with protecting the h. The h enjoys being a submissive but she also tries to top from the bottom. This alpha dom won’t let her do that.

It’s a forbidden romance, but the two spend so much time holed up together that sparks can’t help but fly.

There’s an unplanned pregnancy and the h doesn’t think that’s a good enough reason to get married at first but don’t worry, there’s a HEA. I also loved the soundtrack to this book!

The sixth installment of the naughty series that is set at the exclusive club of proclivity, Serve, where anything goes, no desires are taboo and on the right floor, you can find a willing partner who shares your kink. To act out any scene straight out of your most secret fantasies. Protecting Fate is the story of fixer Sara Reaver and her reluctant bodyguard, Z and the passions that threaten to change their lives forever.

Sara is in over her head in her quest to “fix” her current client’s little problem. The plot progression of how she finds herself in so deep is a little weak, but this isn’t my first Serve Series rodeo, so I was willing to overlook the author being a little too fast and loose with exactly how much reality I needed to suspend to get into the groove of the story. Nevertheless, Sara is in serious trouble and her uncle, club Serve proprietor, “Uncle Roger” sends his best man to cover her for the indefinite amount of time it will take to neutralize the threat against her life. And then we meet Z.

Different scenes were in play around him, the sensory overload only setting him further on edge. Keep it reigned in, man. Get the girl, and get out of here. because he wanted to stop and watch the man spanking the woman bent over a bench, pausing every few strokes to finger her between her legs. Or the couple fucking on the couch across from Sara in plain view of anyone who cared to watch. Or the Dom tying his sub to the bondage contraption, creating a fascinating pattern with purple rope across her body. It was like fucking Candyland in here. Which meant he needed to leave. Now.

Zebadiah “Z” Loreto is imposing and so straight-laced, a girl can’t possibly help the compulsion to ruffle his feathers, see whats hiding under all that ex-military, professional bodyguard stoicism. Z and Sara meet at the club of all places, where I nearly have a coronary wondering if Robert would dare show the fiercely independent and sexually liberated (read: she is quite promiscuous) Sara, actually go through a kinky bondage scene with an admirer. I kept chanting, no, no, no. no, but like a train wreck, I could not look away until *whew* crisis averted. This was noteworthy because the author wrote Sara so well that it was quite feasible that she would have no qualms about performing sexually with the random dude even on the heels of sparks flying with Z. I am not into slut shaming, but Sara rode a fine line for me. Even her best friend and future sister-in-law quipped about Sara having been around the block a few times too many. Her “Three rounds and you’re out” motto kept her heart and vagina firmly separated as Sara was deathly afraid of commitment and falling in love after witnessing her parent’s failed marriage. Right away, they share common ground as Sara is a submissive who is burning for a dominant lover and Z is just the Dom to fit the bill. The attraction is immediate and though the lady protests much- I knew I would look forward to seeing her fall for Z. It was just a matter of time before she gave into her pleasure and try to heal his emotional ruin. Oh but I love an emotionally tortured hero- he has scars too!!

I didn’t have to wait long for their coupling as the pissed off tycoon after Sara makes a move against her (eye roll, more on this later), forcing Z to whisk her into hiding- in a ginormous mansion. With a pool…where she can do Olympic style freestyle laps, skinny dipping. Cue the resolve melting from Z’s bones as he watches from his bedroom window- and decides to guard her body- with his own. In the naked kind of way. *wiggles eyebrows.* Sara is a woman in full control of her feminine powers of persuasion. She is a fire cracker who is not scared to poke the bear to get a reaction. I lived for her bold tongue and fearless seduction. Z hadn’t had a chance really.

If this guy worked for Garrett, then he was a master of control. She’d have to be a saint not to try and test him…

“I have a question for you , Z.”

He dropped his gaze to the scrap of cloth covering the dip between her thighs. He could swear it was damp from her desire. His control fractured a little more. “What?”

“Do you want me?” Her voice seduced him as thoroughly as the sight of her body. “I can feel your eyes on me. Do you want to touch me?”

Yes. Fuck, yes. He was actually reaching out to do just that when he caught himself. What the fuck was he doing?

Their romance had several bumps in the road. Both wary for their own reasons, they have several false starts and when they finally decide to give it a real shot, they are forced apart for weeks at a time. They are very compatible sexually, but I didn’t really buy into their emotional connection. No head over heels in love, that’s for certain. Their happy reunion is short lived when game changing news is discovered and neither of them react appropriately. Given the weak plot, this pivotal shift they experience during their blow -up is easily the best few chapters of the entire book. She is regressing, he is irrational. She is proud and stubborn and he can not let go of his not-so-secret past that haunts him.

The resolution is as weak as the rest of the plot, however, for a while there, the author really gave us something special. Though I liked the story well enough, there were some definite issues that prevented it from being as great as it could have been. Z was previously married and though incessantly about his ex-wife. Though the thoughts were not fond, they were distracting, If I didn’t hear another thing about Jennifer, the ex bitch wife, it would have been too soon. Also, naiveté’ is reserved for young, barely grown heroines. Not big, burly and world hardened professional bodyguards. How he believed he worked for a top-notch human security and reconnaissance firm and they have no clue about why he was dishonorably discharged from the military was just silly. By all accounts you are robo-bodyguard, the best in the business, leading your own team of robo-bodyguards and they didn’t check you out? Snort. C’mon. Also, this “danger” Sara was in, was super weak. I needed to see a real attempt on her life. Sure they tossed her apartment, but that was child’s play. If she was assigned the best bodyguard in the business and sequestered for as long as she was, I need the villain to be a complete bad ass to inject a little menace into the story!

The danger was luke warm but not to disappoint, the sex was hot. Though billed as erotica, BDSM, these Serve novels are very accessible for those who are not heavy into the lifestyle, but can appreciate some light bondage and submission sex play.

Sara barely had time to get into the feeling of Z’s cock in her mouth when he dragged her up his body to straddle him. Hi hands urged her to slide up and down against his cock, its ridge lining up perfectly with her clit. There was something so damn forbidden about this, about them miming sex without any barrier between them, that her entire body zinged with desire unlike any she’d ever known. Every inch of her skin was on fire, the feeling heightened by the drag of her nipples against his chest, the imprint of each of his fingers on her ass, his cock between her legs, his tongue in her mouth. She wanted. God Almighty, she wanted.

No blood letting, no bodily fluids (besides references to climax) and the spanking is barely enough to leave a blush upon a girls bottom. Robert does a great job of giving the best of both worlds to readers. All of the dark passion and sensuality of a BDSM scene without any of the more uncomfortable and graphic elements that could turn off a reader with only a mild interest in the arts. Out of all of the Serve novels, Z is the best Dom I’ve read- mainly because he is more aggressively dominant with his woman. Some of the other hero’s were too soft and permissive. You’re a Dom for crying out loud! If that Sub gets sassy, spank that ass!!! Z definitely lived up to his Dom status without crossing any sensitive lines. Me liked. A lot.

As I mentioned the plot is paper-thin, but the juicy, steamy bits propel the story to it’s surprisingly strong conclusion. Serve series enthusiasts will enjoy this installment and the novel stands alone for those new to the series. Like Sara, I’m in too deep to abandon Serve just yet! I’m crossing my fingers for a #7. *wink*

Felt really forced and rushed. I was already feeling tired of the words “hell of a lot” and “dig in his/her heels”, in the progressing parts of this series. You can pretty much make a drinking game out of the amount of times that these lines are thrown in on this particular book. Not to mention, the same trauma is used as the crutch for all three main characters of the last books. That fact would be fine, if it affected each character in different ways, but they are all almost exactly the same. This is one that would have been better off if it ended with either the book before this one or even the one before that. It’s not completely terrible and it has some good spice, I was just hoping for some more variety in all aspects.

This book was a good spicy listen. But, the plot was so thin, and there were things that felt really disjointed to me. It also escalated from "I can't be with you" to "let's just fool around" to "let's be a couple" super quickly. which certainly had to happen due to the length of the book. So, if you like a slow burn or slow build, this is not the book for you.

Sometimes, you're in the mood for a quick smutty read and not looking for something deep, which is why I had picked this audiobook. Katee Robert's has some books I really have loved.

However, what lowered my rating of this book was the surprise pregnancy followed immediately by the third act breakup because they were both being complete idiots and wouldn't just TALK to each other.
