Pongwiffy finds an old magic spell when she is forced to spring clean her hovel. But old-fashioned ingredients and a vulture's feather and a cat's whisker are hard to come by, especially when they belong to the familiars of other witches. Another tale of Pongwiffy - the witch of dirty habits.
Umansky again manages again to captivate me in another of the hilarious Pongwiffy books. The lines are very funny and quotable, and the characters are definitely not one-dimensional.
Hilarious adventure with Pongwiffy. Love the journey she went on to collect ingredients to make her spell of the year. It all ends in typical Pongwiffy style. I did appreciate the illustrations but prefer (for this series) the work of who ever did them (first?) when I was a child. They fit better.
I enjoyed this as much as I did as a child, with Pong always good for a light read! I'd actually forgotten the twist at the end so got a good giggle out of that!
I took a little trip down memory lane with this book, I had read it as a child - and parts of the story did come back to me, but not enough to ruin the reading experience, or spoil the story at the end. I remembered the illustrations more than anything.
Silly and fun, this was a great read with an interesting cast of unique characters that kept the story moving forward and each added their own eccentric elements to the plot.
I loved the "quest" element of her collecting all the ingredients for the spell, it gave it a good fantasy feel which, now I think about it, might have been one of the precursors to my loving the fantasy genre so much.
As a kid I loved the pongwiffy stories and had many of them on cassette. I was browsing audiobooks for a motorway journey and decided a bit of childhood reminiscing was in order. As always I loved it :)
