“The Pact” is the second book by former Green Beret-turned author Robert Patrick Lewis, and his first foray into the world of fiction.

“The Pact” is the first of a 3-book series, a fictional story based on current events, the authors experience in Special Forces and first-hand knowledge of geopolitics and global intelligence.

“The Pact” combines global politics, combat, economics, conspiracy theories and Special Forces history into one nail-biting fiction work; think Dan Brown meets Tom Clancy meets Red Dawn.

Already hailed as “so realistic and plausible that it’s terrifying,” “an on the edge of your seat thriller that will have you looking in your rearview mirror for enemy troops” and “the next great franchise in the world of military fiction,” “The Pact” is going to change the way Americans look at their government and safety for the rest of their lives.

I'm quite partial, but have to say that I had much more fun than expected writing this, the first part of the 3-part series that will be "The Pact."

I was surprised at the fervor and excitement this caused in my beta readers; everyone who got "Love Me When I'm Gone" in advance took weeks to read, but "The Pact" was finished by all advance readers within 48-72 hours and they were immediately asking for more.

There are a lot of elements tied together here, with politics, conspiracies, combat, Freemasonry, etc. This first book is setting the stage for the rest. Let me assure you that everything which sparks your interest and raises a question (1) is important, and (2) will be answered in the next two books.

Enjoy! (less)

Fantastic book

Fast moving and prophetic
many of us who have served abroad and especially us who served in ODAs see things lining up as they did in this book. Self serving and power hungry politicians are directly setting us up like this book.
Well written you just can't put it down.
Enjoy as I did and most importantly THINK!

I must admit, I could/should have finished it in one night. However I had to force it out if my hands to get some sleep!
Not huge into this genre other than the fact that this is more in a military manner rather than a doomsday prepped format. I am ver glad to see it follows Robert through the story than a made up character.
Now, we just need books 2 & 3 in a hurry, I CANNOT WAIT!!!!!

When the United States is simultaneously attacked by an alliance of foreign enemies—China, Russia, Iran, and Hezbollah—a small team of elite Special Forces Green Berets must step in to protect the homeland. Drawing from his real-life military experience, Robert Patrick Lewis blends current events, global politics, military tactics, and conspiracy theory into a high-stakes thriller. Think Red Dawn meets Tom Clancy, with a uniquely modern and realistic twist that forces readers to question just how secure America really is.

This book had been sitting on my TBR for a while, but I decided to finally pick it up after learning that Robert Patrick Lewis is a fellow Freemason, which immediately elevated my curiosity. And wow—what incredible timing to read this. Although it was published back in 2018, The Pact feels eerily relevant today, reflecting modern geopolitical tensions in a chillingly plausible way. The writing is sharp, the pacing is gripping, and the realism in the military tactics and global dynamics kept me fully engaged.

What I especially appreciated was how the book respectfully incorporates Freemasonry—a rare and refreshing perspective in a genre often tangled with misinformed conspiracy theories. Lewis doesn’t lean into the nonsense; instead, he gives a nod to the real values of the Craft, which as a Mason myself, I deeply appreciated.

This was a 5-star read for me—exciting, smart, and thought-provoking. I can’t wait to dive into the second book in the trilogy.

Highly recommended for fans of military thrillers, political fiction, or anyone interested in geopolitics and tactical strategy. If you're into Tom Clancy, Red Dawn, or anything conspiracy-adjacent—but grounded in truth—this is a must-read.

Hopefully a Story, Not a Prophecy

I came across this book by accident maybe but once I got the gist of it I thoroughly enjoyed it . Some people might harp on the technical aspects of the hardware involved , but then again most of them might have to be reminded bullets come out of the small end of the gun. As a retired military veteran somehow the thought of our country being actually invaded is very disturbing and repugnant to me. Despite this I found the story very captivating and it was very easy to root for the good guys . In these uncertain times I do believe one thing the liberal elements are overlooking is that there are an awful lot of retired and former military people out there . Most of them don't blow their horns to draw attention to themselves but I think this story could also serve as a warning to those who might intend us harm, but tthat intention could have some very painful consequences. (To them) Somehow the concept of " Dragon's teeth" comes to mind. Just how painful has been depicted in this book as a preview. Once a week I check a list of authors to see if they have released anything new. Mr. Lewis is now added to that list. Like the little guy in the movie said "More-Please?"

Pretty good story

The story is pretty good. My issues are that the bulk of the writing is providing what seems as a recruiting message for the U.S. Special Forces. This isn't a problem, but not necessary. I also cringe over the poor grammar and totally incorrectly use of homonyms. Just because they sound alike doesn't mean they have the crane meaning. Brake vs break; sight vs site it cite; and so on. A M4 is not a sniper rifle. A M4 doesn't shoot the same caliber as an AK47 or 74. With all of those negatives, the root of the story is solid. The U.S. Is rotting away from the greed and hunger for power of our career politicians, as well as their misplaced loyalties. There is also the sense of entitlement and laziness of the population.

Interesting

For the most part started off w a bang! Fast paced, moving along. Then middle started to unfold. A little too much explanation, broke up the pace of the story. Too quick in the subject, activity, mission changes left me kind of confused, then bam! Outta the blue issues came up. Asked myself, now how the hell did we get here? Like the combo aspects of Freemasons and delta forces.
Little tricky on timelines of past, political and units, confusing. Started skipping ahead at 78% because the unimportant explanations of things were getting tedious.
How long after recent and current Middle Eastern conflicts did this take place? Would help to know considering there is big emphasis on a futuristic govt that made oddly unpopular and illegal laws/regs.

This is capable military fiction writing, but it feels like it is missing something without a greater integration of the political dimension. The political context of the conflict is barely mentioned until the last chapter, where it is laid out at length in an expository speech. I think it would have been preferable if the politics had been woven throughout the book. As it is, it feels like 11 mil-fic “mission” chapters followed by a political essay chapter. Also, this is part 1 of a series and there isn’t a particularly satisfying story arc that gets resolved by the end of the book. The final words are literally “To be continued…”, never a good ending. Still, the book was good enough to interest me in reading book 2.

Awful

The story is not original or well written. Besides a complete lack of editing, spelling correction and believability, I could not wait until it ended. The characters come across as Nazi like in their beliefs and actions. It's recruitment propaganda for the Masons. I won't waste my time reading more of this preachy self righteous drivel. This comes from a lifelong conservative, retired law enforcement officer, with a significant amount of family military history. I wanted to like it, but it comes across as very juvenile.

Very Very Close to The Mark

Sir To me your concept of the future for America is so close one can almost smell the dust and diesel. As a traveler from the East not only as a Brother, also one who has lived in the Near East for over 20 years as an ex pat know the 3 borders of this small country is under siege every single day only fairly safe from the waters of the Western shores. Thank You for including my favorite psalm, Thank You for including the history of our founding fathers who brought the Lodges with them to begin our moral history.I

A really good read for those that like tactically-oriented combat stories. The lead character is a par of a group of "retire" Green Beret that foresee the takeover of America by foreign invaders and become "preppers". After the invasion, they began a campaign guerrilla.
Of interest, in addition to the general story line, is an implicit editorial against todays liberal politics that endeavor to undermine our Constitutional Rights and democratic society, eventually making the foreign invasion possible. I must admit it is a bit frightening, especially when we see it happing to us in real time.

This was horrible!

I usually like military operations books but this one was so badly written I had to fight to get to get through it. There was precisely zero character development. The "battles" read with the numb distance of a military report with absolutely no depth or feeling like you were there. What was the purpose of giving your character kids? The character treated them like the after thought they were. No mention of their mother. Dead? Bitch? What is the back story? Sorry but this was abysmal

Retired Special Forces Lead the Way !

Great first installment by Lewis. Characters are strong. Well developed. Believable. His story of foreign forces invading America is plausible. A group of rag-tag retired Special Forces buddies risking everything, family, life, future to begin the resistance makes everything so personal.

This series is very intriguing and takes a different view of a WWIII. I will recommend this series, books 1 and 2 are out now (free on Kindle Unlimited), I finished book 2 tonight. I will be reading more from this author. I am eagerly awaiting book 3. There are some twists and turns that come into play, but I will not give them away in this review.
This series will interest Special Forces and preppers. It is a cannot put it down story line. The author shows he knows what he writes about.

Makes sense

When I first started reading book one I was a little disappointed at the slow pace that the story line unfolded. I like to know the “whys” and “what’s” up front. It wasn’t until the last chapter that I got answers to those questions. Now, I can’t wait to start book two.

For younger readers?

While this was a “good enough” book, I didn’t feel it was written for adult readers. It was perfect for mid-teens—-the 15 and16 year old boys who love the action and tolerate the “sappy” Daddy-loves-you stuff but not the romantic girl-boy stuff. I wish I had been warned. I won’t bother with the next book in the series.

Good premise but poorly told

Enough with the Green berets are great..
We get it so quit harping. Masons building underground bases ..
...please !! Nothing more than a comic book sequel to bait the reader into buying the next book in the series. Save your money and don’t waste your time

China?

I have been informed that China's influence has infected our media, both news and entertainment. I am reasonably sure that the publishers are also infected. These issues aren't a stretch if you compare FOX news with NBS, ABS, CBS, and PBS. You get the picture. I don't think anything is available on line that is made in the USA.

Was just a bit too unrealistic and out there for my taste. Lost me at the part where the Freemasons have an underground base at Denver Airport and Freemason soldiers start shooting up out of tubes in the ground to assault the bad guys that have taken the airport over...as Dr. Evil would say 'Riiiiiiiiiiiight'. Sloppy OpSec for a bunch of former SF guys too.

Great prepper story

What a page turner, great story. Good detail of how a special forces team is set up and ran. What group of special forces guys can do when the world tries to conquer the United States.

Top of the genre.

I absolutely was compelled to read cover to cover in one sitting. Well thought out characters. New twist on a well established component of society. Really can't wait to continue the journey. This is a reflection of our country as it could be.

A quick easy read with a nice blend of military fiction and pre-dystopian events. Entertaining and engaging, it was refreshingly different from other book series in either military fiction or apocalyptic/prepper/dystopian genres that I’ve personally read.

Great book - good action

This book grabbed me from the beginning and continued to keep me involved - I could see the way the book unfolded and how fiction could become reality - started reading and did not put it down till it was finished - went right to book 2
