Echoes of Summer
Summer thought she had left the past behind her.
Ten years ago, a week-long vacation in the Maldives left behind more than memories. During this time, Summer meets Callum, a fragile boy who she got into a relationship with, yet things were never as simple as they seemed.

This was such an incredible love story between Summer and Callum and later, Summer and Cage. Their emotions and hardcore feelings gave this story so much depth. The banter between the characters was so entertaining! This book encompasses many aspects from tragedy, abuse, chronic illness, found family, solid friendships, first love, and love of a lifetime.
It begins with “Golden week”, a pre-college trip before lifelong besties Summer and Sarah head to Oxford. Golden week revolves around a trip to an island with a group of friends and this is where Summer meets Callum. Unfortunately, he has a chronic heart condition, which has shortened his lifespan. Despite this, they begin a 10 year situationship, traveling all over, while she remains based in London and he stays in New York.
Callum eventually succumbs to his illness and Summer returns to New York for his funeral. She meets his brother Cage at the funeral and so begins their love/hate relationship. These two are the definition of slow-burn romance. Eventually, including a job transfer to New York, things start to heat up between Summer and Cage. Everything finally combusts and then comes to an abrupt halt after misunderstandings, followed by an accident. The ending? Well, you’ll have to pick up a copy of the book if you want to know how beautifully it ends. Highly recommended!

I enjoyed the read! It has a good pace, and the author doesn't go around in circles just to add more pages.
When I saw the cover, I thought the FMC was sweet and delicate, but man, she knows how to swear! 😂 I loved that because I can relate to her 😂
I loved her relationship with Sarah, even though I was skeptical at first (I thought she was going to be a secret villain, but I'm glad she wasn't! ❤️)
I'm really glad I gave this book a chance, and my journey to discover indie authors is paying off!

Good debut. I liked Summer's feistiness a lot, and how the author handled certain difficult subjects. There were moments when tears came to my eyes and one particular moment of vindication where I may have shouted 'YES!' a little too loud, out in public...

Omg! Talk about a refreshing little piece of literature.
5⭐️ 1🌶️. This story was amazing! I ate this up in like 4 hours. The plot, the twists, the heartbreak I felt, the kicking of my feet, the anger. All the feels. Summer’s story was both heartbreaking and pure joy. Cage is a broody jerk but we that. I loved Sarah and her “sistership” with Summer bc it gave me everything I needed between them. Highly recommend if you need a pallet cleanser between books. Quick read and so satisfying.

Começamos logo com o coração partido, e mesmo que não queiramos admitir, quando lemos o salto temporal para o passado, SENTIMOS SIM O CORAÇÃO PARTIDO.
Ele é irmão de uma antiga paixão dela, que a odeia mesmo muito, mas que depois de algumas "coincidências", é impossível não se sentir atraído por ela.
Ao longo livro, estando dentro da cabeça da FMC, vamos percebendo que o trauma a deixa insegura e que não lhe permite avançar muito na sua vida amorosa, mas com o Cage, até eu tinha necessidade de ultrapassar o trauma só para ficar com ele 🙂↕️ JK!! eu amei-os, sem dúvida que é livro inesquecível, que nos deixa com o coração quentinho.. fala sobre traumas, superação, lidar com a perda, lidar com novos sentimentos..

There was no shortage of tension (some scenes were really INTENSE)
We start off with a broken heart, and even if we don’t want to admit it, when we read the flashback to the past, WE REALLY DO FEEL THAT BROKEN HEART.
He’s the brother of an ex-lover of hers, who really hates her, but after a few “coincidences,” it’s impossible not to be drawn to her.
Throughout the book, as we’re inside the FMC’s head, we realize that her trauma makes her insecure and prevents her from moving forward in her love life, but with Cage, even I felt the need to overcome my trauma just to be with him 🙂↕️ JK!! I loved them; without a doubt, it’s an unforgettable book that leaves us with a warm heart… it talks about trauma, overcoming it, dealing with loss, dealing with new feelings…

Ten years later after that magical week, Summer returns to say goodbye, and there she meets Cal’s older brother, Cage. And let’s just say that a peaciful reunion is the furthest thing from what happens.
And little by little, amid arguments, glances, and the traumas they both have, something new beginfs to appear.
I have to say that in the first half of the book, I found the main character, Summer, unbearable, and the male character a little too, though less than her. But the second half was much better, I would say that from that last trip to London, and I ended up liking it overall.
I understand that Summer has her traumas, but at times she was quite tiresome, constantly changing her mind for no reason. Sometimes the lack of communication overwhelmed me.
Regarding another thing, I loved the fact that she found her new family, given how it is her blood one and all that they did, in her best friend and her parents, who became hers too.
I also loved how Summer continued searching for her ideal position in her job, she is a lawyer, how she tries to help people with her work.
Furthermore, I was very surprised by how, even in the parts where I read with frustration, I wanted to know what would happen next and I couldn’t put it down.
If you like a short, addictive book with lots of drama, this book might be for you.

This was a beautiful and interesting story where the main character Summer find a way to accept and move past her grief and open up to loving someone again.
The author beautifully weaves feelings of grief and guilt alongside the lasting effects of trauma in a way that is impactful and moving. Despite the heavy things the characters are working through, they are able to find comfort in each other, though they fight those feelings.
I appreciated Summer’s found family and the way people showed her love and support and again, opened her heart to receiving that love when she didn’t think she could. The author conveyed the emotions of the two main characters in a way that could really be felt.
The writing style was a little outside of my comfort zone, feeling a bit like a stream-of-consciousness. Though this makes it feel a bit less polished/formal, it also puts you right into Summer’s headspace.
This is a great book for anyone struggling with complex emotions who want to be seen and see themselves and their struggles in someone else. Despite the grief and trauma woven though Summer’s story, there is also an element of hope.

This book has so much potential but to me, still feels unpolished and not ready for publishing. At a certain point, I think I could pinpoint that English isn't the author's first language so the some of the dialogues feels a little disjointed. I have no problems with Sarah and Callum's relationship over the years - it be like that sometimes. But I feel like Cage's freefall into loving Summer was a bit farfetched. Is it possible? Yes. Is it sustainable? Doubtful. One thing I did love in the book was the family dynamic between Summer and her found family in the Hammets. I'm also proud of Summer for confronting her trauma and not letting it rule her future.
Prior to reading this book, I'd also been researching the difference between learning and practicing law and medicine between the US and the UK. Summer and Sarah easily jumping jobs from London to the US is a little unrealistic - just because you're licensed in the UK doesn't mean you can practice in the US.

Echoes of Summer by Cate Pedroso is an emotional romance filled with heartbreak, tension, and second chances. I really enjoyed the complicated relationship between Summer and Cage and how their feelings slowly changed as they learned more about each other. Summer is a strong character despite everything she has been through, and Cage’s journey from anger and resentment to understanding was especially interesting. There were plenty of emotional moments that kept me invested in their story, and I enjoyed watching them work through their past and the misunderstandings standing between them. The chemistry and emotional tension added another layer to the romance. Overall, Echoes of Summer was an enjoyable angsty contemporary romance with complicated characters, emotional healing, forgiveness, and a love story that develops in unexpected ways.

Adorei a personalidade forte da Summer, uma FMC com um passado traumático mas que não deixa que ninguém lhe diga o que fazer, o que sentir 🙌 adorei as personagens secundárias (gostava de ter visto um bocadinho mais do Jack, do Terry e da Anna, mas a Sarah foi incrível) e claro .. o Cage 🤧 eu senti que a história deles teve tantos momentos importantes .. aquele jogo, a culpa pelo que estão a sentir, o medo .. gostava de ter visto mais momentos mas acho que não interfere com a história .. queria muito um pov dele e a Cate entregou isso quando eu menos esperava!!

A quick read
This was a quick and enjoyable read. There were a few quirks I noticed while reading; however, they didn't pull me out of reading. I really like how everything with Callum was handled. What happened with him was front and center, but it wasn't depressingly so. The one thing that bothered me was that Summer talked about going to therapy in the past, but it felt like she never took the chance to go in the present and help herself with everything that was going on until it was almost too late. I just wish she had taken the time to take care of herself. I loved the epilogue because it was so very Cage.

I had the chance to read an early copy of Echoes of Summer, and let me tell you: the emotional damage is real! The first ~30% really hooks you and hits you in the feels!
Then the 'hate-but-want-you' tension in the whole book between the main characters was exactly what I was craving!
Even though a more contemporary romance is not my usual choice, the pacing kept me hooked the whole way through. The chemistry between the FMC and MMC is definitely the highlight! If you love high-tension contemporary romance that pulls at your heartstrings, you’ll definitely want to check this one out!

I got this as an arc read and I liked it. I believe this was a debut novel and I think it was written very well. If you like friends to lovers or brothers ex mixed with some grief and forbidden this will be a great read. There were moments where I was in it and enjoying it and it was easy to understand and the timelines and tropes made absolute sense. There were a few moments though that I’m like I’m liking it but like it wasn’t hitting or I wasn’t like wanting to pick it up probably a mood reader problem honestly but like would it read it again I’m not sure.

I enjoyed the tension between Cage and summer, I could feel it through my kindle. I loved the enemies to lovers element and was trying to read on so they could finally kiss ! This story is not for the faint of heart. Summer goes through a lot even before the story even starts. And there is some strong animosity between the two leads in the very beginning of their relationship. But I would recommend this to anyone who loves a sad romance book.

I will start by saying that I feel truly honored of having read an early copy of this book. This was such a refreshing read that made me go through an emotional rollercoaster and a killiiiing slow-burn ❤️🔥

3 stars. A true romance with minimal spice. The main characters are messy but then so is life. This story would be great for those who enjoyed the billionaire vibes from 50 shades (without the kink). At a couple hundred pages this is a short read that would be great for the beach. Appreciate the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a story that perfectly combines the lightness of a summer read and the depth of a story marked by pain and intense feelings.
I really liked the characters and the relationship that Summer built with both Callum and Cage. I felt I needed a few more pages to get to know Callum better and create a stronger connection with him. However, I really enjoyed Summer and Cage's relationship. It's an enemies to lovers story with a lot of tension, banter, and strong emotions. The perfect cocktail.
I've become a fan of the author's writing and can't wait to read more of her books.

This story completely broke and healed my heart at the same time. From the very first chapter, I already had tears in my eyes.
