The Marathon des Sables is a self-supported 156 mile/ 251 kilometre multi-stage ultra race held every year in the Moroccan Sahara Desert. It attracts a huge number of entrants year on year, and seems to be the ‘rite of passage’ for all would be endurance athletes.
But you don’t need to be some super fit elite athlete to complete the Marathon des Sables. The race is achievable for anyone willing to put in the time and effort to train.
I am a self-confessed slow plodder who entered the race to have an incredible adventure. In this book I show what worked for me and other slow plodders, and give an insight into what to expect from this amazing event. If you are more of a back of the pack athlete who wants to complete rather than compete and have an incredible experience, then this book will help you train, pack, prepare and cross the finish line to claim your medal.
I intended this guide to be a source of information rather than an actual race account, however since it has been published it has become apparent that this has left some people wanting to read more about her race. I have decided to rectify this by writing an account of the 2009 Marathon des Sables- 'Hell and High Water', which is also available through Amazon.
If you buy the 'Slow Plodder's Guide to the Marathon des Sables' there is a free link to a PDF file of 'Hell and High Water' as a thank you for your purchase.
If you have already purchased the Slow Plodders guide previously please email me at the address at the front of the guide together with the name of the first trekking company listed in the 'Resources' section and I will send you a copy.
