The Ember Wolf’s Hidden Mate: A Fated Mates Wolf Shifter Firefighter Paranormal Romance

Rate this book
She survived a fire that should have killed her. He knows why.

WREN
I've been running for eighteen months. No last name. No forwarding address. No plan beyond the next seventy-two hours. Whatever that organization did to me — whatever they were trying to turn me into — I got out. That's all that matters.

Until a wildfire traps me with a hotshot crew in the California backcountry, the flames close in, and I walk out of the burnover without a scratch.

I can't explain it. But the crew's squad boss is looking at me like he can.

I should leave. I know better than to trust the man with the too-still eyes and the voice that makes my whole body pay attention. I know better than to stay somewhere long enough to be found.

But my senses are sharpening. His scent is everywhere. And for the first time in two years, every instinct I have is telling me to stay.

BRANN
She walked through fire and she's standing in the black and my wolf has never been more certain of anything.

She's a dormant wolf shifter. She has no idea what she is — why her senses are changing, why she can't stop breathing me in, why her body recognizes something her mind hasn't caught up to yet.

I've spent five years making sure nothing gets past my control. Not my instincts. Not my wolf. Not the thing I carry on a chain under my shirt that I've never told anyone about.

She's my mate. And I'm supposed to give her time to figure that out on her own.

My wolf is done with supposed to.

The organization that wanted her? They set that fire on purpose. They know she survived. And they're coming back.

I don't lose control. I don't break protocol. But for her — I'll burn every protocol I've ever built.

The Ember Wolf's Hidden Mate is a steamy, full-length fated mates wolf shifter romance with a hotshot firefighter hero who's losing his iron control, a heroine who doesn't know she's a wolf, and a shadowy organization that wants her back. Meh. Another middle of the road shifter romance. I liked Wren and Brann. Both likable characters easy to root for. I liked the found family with the Hotshots. The world building was slightly confusing, with some things just being assumed the reader knew but didn’t make much sense without context. And the plot holes/inconsistencies were frustrating throughout. Was he 62 miles away, or 36? It switched between the two in the same damn paragraph. Was he with the hotshots of 12 years? Or 10? Because it claims both. Things like that happened pretty consistently and I’ll be honest, it’s getting increasingly frustrating to read books where that happens a lot. I feel like any beta reader or even family friend could do a read-through catch some of these things, so unfortunately it makes it feel rushed and lazy.

All in all a decent shifter romance with ok spice and likable characters. I doubt I’ll continue with the series though.

Brann and Wren are surprised to be mates

This is book one in the Hotshot Wolves series. I enjoyed the storyline. The lead female character, named Wren, was frustrating at times. The story begins with Wren being in the run from some evil people. These people have been experimenting on Wren, mostly off page. The beginning is confusing because it seems like Wren is just escaping, when the fire erupts out of nowhere. However, at the end of the book, we do learn that Wren had been successfully hiding out for about eighteen months.

As I mentioned an extreme fire started out of the blue. Wren is flabbergasted that this fire is blocking all routes to freedom. Next thing we know the Hot Shots Fire Team is in action. There is one firefighter named Brann who scented Wren. Even though Wren has no knowledge of the supernaturals, she also scented Brann, and wonders what is going on. This complication throws Brann off but he is compelled to save and protect Wren. This is the beginning of their complicated journey. There is a happy ending for now. Read On!

Picked it up and read STRAIGHT THROUGH

Wren and Brann were the perfect couple to jump back into a shifter series with. The writing was a relaxed read, the banter was hilarious, the moments of WTF were perfectly placed and although I had my suspicions I wasn’t prepared for the actual truth. I loved how things were explained. For example, I’m not a firefighter lady, but the terms were simple and easy to understand. I love Brann! What a man! Such self discipline, such spice! The team had great supporting characters. I can’t wait to read about Santos! Wren was well rounded, but took time for me to digest. She was a spitfire and then quite a bit in the dark. She got smart quick and it sure helped the book to TAKE OFF! Wren and Brann are a powerhouse and I’m excited to read the next story! Loooooved it!

Ummmm

Well written and definitely different to other shifter novels I've read.i can't decide how I feel about it though. Honestly, Brann, comes off as kind of a coward and I can't get behind that.
