There’s just something about a well-written brother’s best friend romance that gets me every time, and Crossed Lines absolutely delivered. Add in a single dad, nanny trope, age gap, small-town charm, and enough slow-burn tension to keep me turning pages, and I was completely hooked from start to finish.
This is the second book in the Moonlight Ranch series, and while it can be read on its own, I loved returning to Blue Haven and seeing familiar faces again. But this time, the spotlight belongs to Willow and Beck, and honestly, I adored their story.
Willow returns home for the summer with a clear goal in mind: earn enough money to fund her upcoming semester abroad in Italy. Taking a nanny job for Beck, her older brother’s best friend, seems like the perfect solution. The problem? Beck has been her crush for years.
Beck, meanwhile, is suddenly faced with spending the entire summer caring for his six-year-old daughter, Jade, and desperately needs help. Hiring Willow seems practical... until he realizes the shy girl he used to know is very much a grown woman now.
What I loved most about this book is that the romance never felt rushed. Beck fights his feelings for a long time, and honestly, I appreciated that. He knows exactly how complicated the situation is. There’s the age gap, the friendship with Willow’s brother, his responsibilities as a father, and the fact that he’s known Willow for most of her life. Watching him slowly realize he’s completely losing the battle was incredibly satisfying.
And Willow?
She was such a refreshing heroine.
I loved how determined she was to build her own future and chase her dreams. Even when her feelings for Beck became impossible to ignore, she never lost sight of her own goals. Too often in romance, one person's ambitions get sacrificed for the relationship, but I really appreciated that Willow continued to fight for what she wanted outside of love.
Of course, the real scene-stealer was Jade.
The relationship that develops between Willow and Beck’s daughter absolutely melted my heart. Some of my favorite moments weren't necessarily the romantic ones but the small everyday interactions between the three of them. Their connection felt natural and genuine, and it was impossible not to picture them as a family long before they were ready to admit it themselves.
Beck was everything I want in a single-dad hero. Protective without being overbearing, patient, dependable, and completely devoted to his daughter. What made him stand out, though, was how much he respected Willow. He never tried to control her future or convince her to give up her dreams for him. Instead, he encouraged her to go after everything she wanted, even when it wasn't necessarily the easiest path for him. That kind of support is incredibly attractive.
The chemistry between them was undeniable from the beginning. There are so many moments filled with longing glances, teasing banter, and barely restrained attraction that I found myself grinning more than once while reading. The slow burn is done really well here because the emotional connection develops alongside the physical attraction.
I also loved the small-town atmosphere. Blue Haven feels warm, familiar, and cozy without overshadowing the main story. It's the kind of place where everyone knows everyone, secrets never stay hidden long, and relationships feel deeply rooted.
One thing D.C. Kile does particularly well is balance sweetness with tension. The story has plenty of emotional moments and relationship angst, but it never becomes overly dramatic. Instead, it focuses on realistic obstacles, personal growth, and two people trying to figure out whether taking a chance on love is worth the risks involved.
By the end of the book, I was completely invested in Beck, Willow, and Jade. Their journey felt authentic, heartfelt, and incredibly rewarding.

Willow has one more year of college left and the opportunity to study abroad, but in order to make it work, she needs a summer job to help pay for the program. She heads home to work as a nanny for her brother’s best friend, Beck, who she has had a crush on for years. Beck hasn’t seen Willow in three years, and it becomes immediately clear that his best friend’s little sister has grown up while she’s been away. He tries to fight his growing attraction to her for every reason he can think of: he’s too old, she’s still in college, she’s his best friend’s little sister, and, most importantly, she has an entire future ahead of her that might take her far away from their hometown. But the attraction between them is getting harder and harder to ignore. With Willow’s future pulling her away and her brother’s potential anger between them, giving in could complicate everything.
I loved Willow and Beck together. And geez, Beck’s daughter, Jade, was too cute for words. She saw the growing closeness between Willow and Beck before either of them was willing to admit it. Beck was also such a great dad to Jade, and I loved that there was no unnecessary drama with Jade’s mom thrown into the story. Willow fit so naturally into their little family that it was easy to root for all three of them.
This was definitely a slow burn, but there were plenty of sweet, intimate moments along the way that built up Willow and Beck’s relationship before they finally went all the way. They had great chemistry and, more importantly, there was a genuine mutual admiration between them. I do wish we had gotten a few more spicy scenes once they finally crossed that line, though!
What I really loved was that Beck’s hesitation wasn’t just about their age difference or Willow being his best friend’s little sister. He genuinely didn’t want to be the reason she gave up the future she had been working toward. He knew that Willow had always talked about leaving their hometown, and he refused to be something that held her back. But I loved the realization that Willow never really wanted to escape the town itself. She wanted to escape the memories and grief attached to it. Her parents died when she was ten, leaving her brother to raise her, and for so long she associated leaving with finally being able to move forward. Her relationship with Beck forces her to look at what she actually wants for her life instead of automatically assuming that moving on means moving away.
Overall, I loved this book! Broken Boundaries is still holding onto its spot as my favorite, but I was so happy to finally see Beck get his HEA, and Willow was such a great match for him. Now I can’t wait for Harper to get hers! I am VERY curious to see what D.C. comes up with for her…

The connection she builds with his daughter, Jade, is instant and so dang sweet. Jade is six, spunky, and absolutely certain Willow belongs in their orbit, and those family moments are some of the sweetest in the book.
What really made this story shine for me was the chemistry between Willow and Beck. They have always been friends, but grew apart when she went to college. I could not put this book down!
Willow went back home for the summer before her senior year of college to earn money to study abroad the following semester when she got a job nannying for her brother's best friend, Beck. Neither has seen each other in over three years since Willow left for college and she's all grown up now. However, Beck doesn't want to mess up his friendship with Willow's brother and is twelve year's older than her so tries to avoid any of his feelings all summer. Too bad Willow doesn't feel the same. So what happens when they give in just as Willow leaves for the summer? And how will her brother react when he finds out?
Willow and Beck get their happy ending in this standalone book in a series.
I loved how much Beck tried to fight this and only ended up hurting himself while he did it. Beck's daughter was also so adorable and I loved how much she wanted her dad and Willow to be together. I do wonder if there would have been any way that Willow's brother would have had any better reaction to them being together after how badly he took it, but at least he didn't walk in on them together or anything like that. Or have Beck's daughter tell him. Though, maybe seeing them together first would have made things better overall rather than just hearing about it from Beck, which I did respect.

I enjoyed reading this so much. I remember reading my first book from D.C. Kile and it was Broken Boundaries and loved that one too.
Beckett is a single dad who learned last minute that he’ll have his daughter for the whole Summer. In comes his best friend’s sister who is back home for the Summer, Willow. Willow needs a job to save up for her semester abroad so babysitting her brother’s best friend’s daughter is a win. Beckett soon sees Willow as a woman then the girl he knew years ago, and lines will be crossed.
I read this all in one day! Such a sucker for a single daddy x nanny trope. I love the flow of this book. Definitely a great amount of build up and the little bits of longing and will they or won’t they moments.

What I love is that Beck loved Willow so much he refused to hold her back. He wanted her to go to Italy for school, and finish her education. He encouraged her to her to apply for her dream job and end up where she wanted to be, not where he wanted her. I love a secure man who loves so hard he just wants his girl to be happy, even if that’s not ending up with him.

Beck is a single dad and works at the Moonlight Ranch where he lives with his daughter, Jade. Jade is staying with Beck while her mom is out of state for the summer and Beck is in need of a nanny for her.
I loved Willow’s relationship with Jade. I liked how Willow asked her what she wanted to do each day but still provided activities for them to do just in case. Jade is so sweet and I adore her so much!

I was seriously worried about what was going to happen after the summer was over and Willow would leave for Italy. I know they didn’t want to label their relationship because she was going away, which is understandable, but oh my gosh the wait was killing me!!
Crossed Lines is full of angst, tension and so much heat between the characters. I absolutely loved it!

Very well written, fun, angsty, emotional read. The chemistry between Beck & Willow was intense and clear to anyone paying attention. But the boundaries they have to cross to be together cause fear of the unknown therefore they try to avoid those feelings. But you can’t choose who you love!

This is such a sweet and well done brother’s best friend romance! I am a huge fan of the first book, Broken Boundaries, and was so excited for this one and it did not disappoint!
Beck and Willow are so sweet, I enjoyed being able to see how they navigate getting to know each other after 3 years of not seeing each other due to Willow being away in college. Adding little Jade into the mix made for some cute moments between all 3 of them. Beck really falls hard for Willow and Willows childhood crush comes back but stronger.
The writing was easy to read and stay engaged. I didn’t feel completely sucked in but I loved every minute spent with these characters and their journey to HEA.

I really enjoyed this one! Beck and Willow had great chemistry, and I loved watching their relationship develop. One of my favorite things about Beck was how supportive he was of Willow and her dreams. I especially appreciated that he encouraged her to continue pursuing what she wanted instead of trying to convince her to stay in Blue Haven for him. That made their relationship feel much healthier and more supportive.
This was a sweet, enjoyable read with characters I really liked. I’m definitely looking forward to spending more time in Blue Haven!

Willow was fantastic. I forgot about the age gap because of how well they worked together. I was a little worried that Willow would give up her dreams for Beck but was so happy to see her finish school before coming home.

I am not a fan of skipping months at a time to get to the HEA tho.

Loved it! Love a nanny(babysitter)/age gap trope. MMC was just the perfect specimen of a man. Good father, handsome, good friend. Swooooon. Loved FMC knew what path she wanted in life and didn't let Love derail her from making the best life decisions for herself. Loved little Jade. Loved the HEA. Well done! Can't wait for Harper's story. Hopefully Sawyer gets his HEA too......

Give me an age gap any day of the week and I’ll be happy but when you add in single dad with small town vibes AND slow burn then I am in love! This was such a great read. It’s the second book in a series but it’s standalone and I had no issue at any time feeling like I wasn’t in the know. This is a fun read and I definitely think it should be added to your tbr today!!

The best friend's little sister trope could have been icky with how Beck was present in her life when Willow was still growing up. But it was written really well and it all made sense and there was no ick-factor in the end. He simply fell in love with her as a woman she is now. Of course, there is a bunch of drama that follows this trope, but we're all here for it, aren't we?
I loved little Jade and how she enriched the story. I really enjoyed seeing how adult Willow and Sawyer had to re-learn how to navigate their relationship. And the whole ranch setting was a cherry on top.
I really need to check more books by this author!
