Perfect for fans of Jeff Lindsay’s Dexter thrillers and the novels of Lisa Gardner and Karin Slaughter, the gritty, action-packed Justice series continues as a depraved mind taunts those who seek retribution on both sides of the law. I become whatever they want. Whatever they need.

From a chain of sleazy payday loan shops to the dark underworld of the sex-slave trade, Mort’s chasing a twisted menace to hell and back. But he’s not the only one. Once again, The Fixer is on the hunt—and she’s desperate to make things right.
Praise for The Fixer “Hot and unpredictable, this debut hurls you down the curvy gray avenues of right and wrong at about a hundred and fifty miles per hour. Strap yourself in!”—Amanda Kyle Williams, author of The Stranger You Seek
“Pitch-perfect . . . solid characters, unpredictable twists and excellent plotting; a must-read for those who enjoy crime fiction.”—Kirkus Reviews
T.E. Woods is a clinical psychologist and author living in Bayfield, WI. She is author of two series: The Justice Series (starring Lydia Corriger and Mort Grant) and The Hush Money Series (Starring Sydney Richardson). Her stand alone novel, The Wrong Sister, will be released on February 27, 2018.
Snuff films, prostitution rings, loan sharks, mutilated bodies, pompous movie stars and an estranged daughter, welcome to the life of Seattle Chief Detective Mort Grant’s world. Young women are being mutilated and murdered and Mort has no suspect, no leads and nothing to connect the murders except the MO. Enter psychologist Lydia Corriger, a woman with a deadly secret of her own, one that only Mort knows and steadfastly keeps. Together they begin to piece together this brutal puzzle, unaware that the missing pieces will lead them to a shared past filled with pain and loss.
Fixed in Blood by T.E. Woods is a masterful mystery with more thorns than a prized rose. Told with grit, this maze filled with murder and mayhem is riveting on its own, but will probably truly dazzle the Sherlock Holmes of the readers’ world when read as part of its intended series.
I received an ARC edition from Random House Publishing Group - Alibi in exchange for my honest review.
Another great outing with Lydia, Mort, et al. As with the other books in this series, narrator Christina Delaine did a superb job. I liked this one better than #3, and it was nice to see the Fixer doing more 'fixery' things throughout the story.
I do sometimes find myself wishing that an entire novel would be spent just on Lydia or just on Mort, or, in this case, I started really wanting to spend some solid time with Allie! At times, all of the various storylines start feeling slightly shallow because we don't get that deep dive that comes with a novel with only one main character.
Nevertheless, I can't wait to get started on the next in series, even though that means I'm getting ever closer to that final (hopefully not forever final) 6th book.
Fixed in Blood by T.E Woods is a 2015 Random House/ Alibi publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Finally! It's been a long wait between books and I have been dying to know what would become of the relationship between Mort and Lydia, which ended on a very sour note in the last installment.
As the story opens we find things have not gotten better between the two, but when a young mother is found murdered and the bodies keep piling up, Mort and Lydia find themselves once more working on a disturbing murder case. How did Lydia get involved ? When one of her patients calls in obvious distress and promptly disappears, she does a little investigating of her own and runs right into Mort in the process. So, for Auld Lang Syne the two are back together again working to find a murderer, and hopefully Lydia can refrain from sliding off the wagon, so to speak. And of course we will get an update on Allie and it's not a positive update, as she has gone from bad to worse, causing Mort and his son great distress.
This series is one my favorites. I love the dark themes and Lydia is always a unique character study, and is an interesting parallel to Mort. Allie is out of total control now having completely given herself over to evil, drawing yet another interesting parallel between these two women. One of which is pure sociopath and the other well... I'm not really sure how to define Lydia, and the two are connected by Mort.
Snuff films, something we have all come to believe is really a urban legend, seems to be given some credence with this story as young women are forced into prostitution to pay off debts, then found murdered, then for kick and giggles a recording of the murders surfaces. It is of utmost urgency that Mort find this sick killer, never in his wildest dreams thinking he could somehow be connected to the case in a personal way.
This installment was worth the long wait. There are hairpin turns, huge and shocking developments, very atmospheric, and a truly twisted story.
This series has everything a good thriller should have with a psychological angle that sucks you in and keeps you entrenched in the drama as much as you are in the crime solving element. I love that the main female protagonist, Lydia, has this calm professional exterior but hides an impulse that sets her apart, making her character border on the anti-hero side of things. “The Fixer” is most assuredly controversial, but I can't help but cheer for her and I even understand her brand of justice, even if I might not actually condone it.
I was happy to see Mort and Lydia working together as a team again, putting their issues in the past. I have a feeling Mort is really going to need Lydia now as more details leak about about Allie. But, I know for sure I can't wait for the next book to come out.. I hope the wait isn't too long though....hint, hint. 4.5 stars
Holy molly and everything that’s holy!!! What the heck was that? I think I just died from overload suspense, agony and madness. I have to admit also, that the first pages had me a bit freaked out but after awhile I got used to the a-bit-psycho situations.
And I think that I wouldn’t be over-the-top if I say that through the whole book my heart had pushed pause to her beat. Every page was throwing me into deeper waters and making me more and more addicted with the story.
But what I liked A LOT was the way Woods develops her story and, although she doesn’t write direct POVs, she actually makes you feel like you inside the head of the characters. And not just Lydia and Mort, but also the other characters who play a very important role inside the story.
I just A D O R E D her writing because it completely took my breath away and threw it over the highest cliff on Earth. And that means that it’s not coming back for a long long time.
Whatever I say about this book and story will be drops in the ocean compered to what actually deserves. But the thing is that the latters haven’t been invented yet so we need to settle on the ones who have. Captivating, breathtaking, amazing, great-written are few from those that come first in mind. And, of course, since I’m a kind-of dark bookworm, the whole set with the psychopaths just made it even more intriguing and irresistible-as-hell!!
Simply? I. Can’t. Put. It. Down…………
For the only thing that I’m sad about is the fact that I didn’t get the time to read the previous three books of the series so I can know the whole background. Though, I must say that I understood the most part of it independently from the infos that were missing and are provided from the other books. But I will get on with them as soon as possible!!
In the end, the only thing I have to say that it was one of the B E S T stories/books/series I have ever read this year. Maybe even ever!!
My View: The Fixer is back! Plenty of action, plot twists, mystery and the protagonists we all love – Mort and Dr Lydia aka The Fixer; both have the same goals but different methods of achieving them. I am so pleased The Fixer is on this case; I love hearing her particularly realistic and sensible discussion with her clients, I love her need to establish justice. The Fixer is a great protagonist – she has the time and money to dig deep to chase the details that will help solve the puzzles. She is smart, determined, vulnerable and flawed. A great heroine. There are moral dilemmas, mob hits, drug lords, manipulation, abuse and thuggery, snuff films, PTSD and l family/relationship issues. I guess you could day this novel has it all. When I read The Unforgivable Fix I said that was the best in the series - that position has now been trumped by this book! I can’t wait for the next in the series.
I received a free advanced ebook copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Fixed in Blood is book 4 in the Mort Grant series.
Detective Mort Grant still misses his daughter and still thinks that The Fixer is the reason that Allie's gone. But as he gets called in on another murder case, young women who were forced to become prostitutes were being murdered, he realises that it wasn't her fault.
I didn't realise that I haven't read the previous book in the series, The Unforgivable Fix, but I still got the hang of what happened. There were many occasions where I was like "I bet this is the person responsible" or "I know what's gonna happen next" and I was right. Although at times I didn't expect some of the things that happened.
Overall, I quite enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next book in the series and to find out what will happen with the Russians and Allie.
Thank you again to NetGalley and Alibi for providing me with this advanced copy.
This is such a great series. I love it. Excellent Narration by Christina Delaine (audible review)
Lydia's character is awesome, and I love Mort too. I really enjoy the twists and turns that occur in these stories. The Fixer always gets her bad guy. There is some really great dialogue throughout the entire book. The story line and plot are great. Exciting and entertaining for sure.
Great psychological mystery. Oh my that Allison is a piece of work........ I will say no more on dear daughter Allison Grant.
As for the narration, its fantastic. Christina Delaine is awesome. Love the voice she uses for Lydia is awesome. She does a great job on the male voices and reads with emotion as called for.
This will be my second T.E. Woods mystery that I've reviewed. I loved "The Unforgivable Fix" so I was looking forward to reading "Fixed In Blood". I certainly was not disappointed. This was a spectacular read, the thrilling mystery held me tight until the very last page.
Here's the gist of the book. The Fixer is on the hunt again. Psychologist Lydia Corriger is helping a young woman try to make a better life. The young woman comes to her office complaining that she's sick of working dead end jobs and fulfilling her parents' low expectations of her. She wanted to be different so Dr. Corriger began an intensive bit of behavior changing therapy. When Dr. Corriger got a late night call from her distraught patient, saying she was being forced to work off a debt by using her body, the doctor tries to intervene. She's shocked to find that Detective Mort Grant, her former friend, is also on the hunt for same people. What Dr. Corriger doesn't know yet is that two women are dead and all of these cases are connected. Is Dr. Corriger's patient the next slated to die?
Mort and Lydia (Dr. Corriger) decide to pool their resources because Mort knows Lydia's secret. She used to be The Fixer, an assassin who helped people with no other recourse. Mort is leery to trust Lydia again, he is unsure if she has really left "The Fixer" behind. Lydia's past is what shattered their friendship before and Mort isn't eager to reestablish any kind of relationship, even if it's professional.
This book was certainly a knock it out of the park, five out of five kind of thriller. I have one caveat. READ THE PREVIOUS BOOKS FIRST. Without the incredible history and background between Mort and Lydia, the reader would lose the meat of this book. As Denise, another reviewer said... "it would have been better had I been able to read those intervening stories first". She's right, go read "The Fixer", "Red Hot Fix" and "The Unforgivable Fix" first, you won't regret it. T.E. Woods has written a truly spectacular series here with heroes and villains that knock your socks off. Believe me, you'll thank me later.
The fixer is back and this story starts out a little tame. You are not sure when or if the fixer is going to appear. Seattle Chief of Detectives Mort Grant and his team begin this story with discovering a body and find out the girl is from a snuff film. While this is going on he is dealing with the loss of Allie, his daughter who was taken away by a revival drug lord after he killed her lover and partner and the fixer could not save her because she did not want to be saved. She continues to be a reminder because now she is setting up bank accounts for her twin nieces and other things that neither her brother nor sister in law want. She also pays off her father’s boat and fees for docking. This makes the family more upset and while this is going on another body shows up. So now as much as it pains him he goes to Lydia and asks for her help. He does apologize and though he wants her help he wants to make sure that the fixer does not appear and that they get the person who is responsible for these murders the right way. She helps but when one of her patients goes missing she is wanting to do more. The same time that all of this is going on you also get to see what is happening to his daughter and what she is doing and how it goes with the story. There are two stories in one. Of course as much as they want to keep the fixer hidden it is hard to do that but the way the author brings her out towards the end of the story really makes this book. The last part of this book has so much going on that it makes for a great read. I got this book from net galley.
This was my third Fixer book and it did fail again to entertain me. This one was a little rough as snuff movies are involved, that was kind of gruesome. I did get a little confused between Chris, the shoe shop man, and Charlie the loan guy. That one really threw me for a loop.
As usual, it was fast paced with a lot of action and can someone please just slap the crap out of that cop named Jimmy? You look up old school cop ALWAYS bitching about these new fangled ways or really just about anything and there's his pic.
There's a very unexpected surprise over in England that I can't wait to read more about in the next book in the series.
I strongly recommend any of The Fixer books. They are well written with great characters and a lot of mystery and suspense. They will have you keeping those pages turning.
Thanks Random House and Net Galley for allowing me to read and review this e-galley in exchange for an honest review.
She is a therapist helping you with almost any problem you might have. She is also the "Fixer"...an assassin who can take of your other problems. Seattle Chief of Detectives Mort Grant knows who she is ... is even covering her identity.
I loved this book! I love the idea of a female assassin and I really love that she's also a therapist...almost like one-stop shopping for all your needs.
The action is non-stop, the characters are very well fleshed out. This is 4th in a series, and you can bet that I'm going shopping for the others. You 'could' read this one as a stand-alone, but there are only hints here and there about her background. And I bet she has one heck of a background!
The book starts out with a bang ... young women are being murdered and snuff films are being filmed.
Absolutely would recommend this one.
My thanks to NetGalley, T.E. Woods, and Random House Publishing Group - Alibi for allowing me to read and review.
It is always my luck that when I find a new series I like the first book I read is always in the middle of the series. That's what happened with Fixed in Blood. I wanted to read this book because it sounded interesting so I requested and received a copy of it from the publisher, Random House/ Alibi publication, and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Although some back information was given, I feel I missed quite a bit by starting with book 4. The characters were a bit confusing in the first few chapters, but that was my fault, certainly not the author's. Once I figured who every one was, the book flowed and was an enjoyable read. It held my interest until the very end and I can't wait for the next book. While I am waiting tho I am going to go back and read the first books. This author is well worth reading.
The 4th book in the Mort Grant series by author TE.Woods. Again I would like to thank Net Galley for sending me a forward copy of this book in exchange for a honest review. I have read and enjoyed the three previous books in this series so it was a pleasure to receive and review the latest offering. Like the previous three books this book was fast paced and full of action, thrills and spills and a large helping of entertainment. I would recommend that the books are read in order so that the story flows and makes perfect sense when it mentions previous events. Having read the other books in the series the characters are more developed and this gives more depth to the books. I eagerly await the next book in the series.
Review: FIXED IN BLOOD by T. E. Woods [Mort Grant #4]
Psychotherapist Lydia Corriger, a successful and efficient counselor in Olympia, Washington, is The Fixer, a self-directed vigilante assassin. She isn't constrained by legalities as is law enforcement, and her self-chosen missions are very effective. In this instance, Seattle Chief of Detectives Mort Grant and his department are plagued by a charming psychopathic killer whose frenzied murders belie that attractive surface charm. Call girls he targets can't stand up to him; but he may have met his match in The Fixer.
Fantastic! This book grabbed me and wouldn't let go. Just when I thought I was onto something the story would twist and turn. A whole different story, one page to the next. There really is only one thing I didn't like. THE END! I can't wait for the next one! Love this series! I have to say this is my 2nd favorite of the series! You certanly don't have to, as each book can stand alone, I suggest that you read them in order, you won't be disappointed!
Such a pity I've had to mark another of the books in this superb series down a star due to some silly mistakes that really ought to have been picked up in the editing/proofreading process. It irks me to do so but it was the same with book 3 as well. This one is a topical story in that it features payday lenders. I know they're billed as a total scourge but when you're on the breadline and therefore your credit rating is zero they can come in very handy. Yes, you know you're signing up to horrific interest payments but what else can you do ? I've needed to use them in the past with a car or pet emergency.....so they CAN be a lifeline for many people. Trust me, that's why they're still in business. I was baffled by the mention of Mauser's neighborhood as I couldn't figure out whether Mauser is a person or area !!! I am very disappointed in Allie in this instalment though Mort and Lydia continue to enthrall as per usual. Now those errors....at one point Mort says "Tell me what my daughter has done" then on the following page it says "Tell me what my daughter had done," Mort repeated. Slinked was used when it should be slunk.....this line speaks for itself though it's a peculiar mistake-"....regarding Jennifer and wanted to it discuss in person".....there were the usual apostrophe mistakes and missing commas, used discrete and not discreet, broaches and not brooches (!) riddle and not riddled, wailing not whaling and there's a word missing here-"Feldoni looked her from toe to tip." I already bought books 5 and 6 and I hope they'll be better presented as the stories are really worth 5* but just need a proper spit 'n' polish.
Wow! Another incredible read in the Justice series, book four and even better than the first one.
In this one Allie and Vadim Tokarev, Mort’s daughter and her boyfriend, get more and more evil than the last book. And while Allie’s being her evil self Mort and Lydia are looking for someone making snuff-films.
This book was just full of one murder after another, and most of them are very sad.
AND Lydia is still sleeping with Paul when she threw Oliver away. It’s very disappointing.
There is NO SEX in these books and the F-bomb is used 42 times.
As to the narration: Christina Delaine is wonderful. Every person has their own unique voice, male and female alike and her reading emotions are awesome.
Fixed in Blood in the fourth installment of the Justice series as known as the Mort Grant series. I love this series, it messes with your mind and heart. The scary reality of the world meshed with a fascinating and personable characters that have you either rooting for them or wishing them to burn in hell. I love Mort and Lydia and their father/daughter type relationship. Their would be great need for rejoicing if the situation that brought them back together wasn't so heinous. I must say this is a Series Book you really need to read the previous three books to get the full impact of the story and emotional ties.
When the last book left off Mort had ended his friendship with Lydia because of his daughter. He left Allie in Lydia's protection only to have her disappear again. Mort didn't understand that both Allie and Lydia did what they did to protect him and his son and his family. Now Mort is still the same living in his new houseboat and working with the same great people. Lydia is working at her practice helping her patients in ways they never thought possible. She is also casually seeing Police Detective Paul Bauer, (who we meet in the last book, Mr. Tall, Dark and Sexy). The trouble starts when a young woman's body shows up with extensive cuts all over her body dealt with precision and accuracy to make it as painful as possible. Soon afterwards the vice squad calls in Mort and his team they found online a snuff video of their victim. Using what little clues they found they try and track down who is behind this. Meanwhile one of Lydia's patients calls her in the middle of the night frantic, scared and apologizing saying this was her only option. The call cut off and Lydia's instincts is telling her this is something major. Not much time later does another girl show up dead with a snuff video to go with it. The girls only obvious connection is a loan company.
Mort and Lydia's path intersect again when both their cases lead them to the loan company, Rite Now. The loan company is the only link between the two dead girls and Lydia's missing patient. They discover more clues that lead them to a movie set filming in the area and with Lydia's help they discover who is really behind this. The tale tale twist that always accompanies the Justice novels is a good one this time I didn't see it coming and as always The Fixers sense of justice is sweet.
Mort forgave Lydia because something happened with Allie that made Mort see the truth about his daughter. The book also includes what Allie has been doing but I will leave all that as a surprise if you read the book.
Overall This whole series is one to read they just keep getting better and better and the emotional connection you feel with Lydia and Mort is just icing on the cake.
Detective Mort Grant has broken off his friendship with the only person he trusted with his daughter Allie’s life when she failed to keep Allie safe from being taken back into the hands of the Russian kingpin mobster. Known as The Fixer, she had given up her life of crime and Mort held her secrets by not turning her in. But now he needs her help.
Mort is on a case of brutal slayings in the sex-slave trade – snuff films and someone in the Hollywood industry is involved.
This was a very twisted case with very surprising plot changes that I really didn’t expect. Those are the best kind of plot twists because you expect something to happen one way and the author surprises you totally by going in a completely different direction.
I am glad to see that The Fixer and Mort do get back on working terms again as I thought they made a good team to right some of the wrongs in the world although I don’t agree with the way The Fixer goes about it.
I would have to say that I don’t understand Mort’s daughter Allie and what she is trying to do in terms of the interaction she is trying to have with her nieces. I don’t blame her brother for the way he feels. I think I would feel much the same.
I love how T.E. Woods is able to bring a book to a satisfying conclusion, yet let you know that there is more to come. Though the ending is not a cliff-hanger, I certainly want to know what is going to happen next. We can expect at least one more book in this series.
Fixed in Blood is an adult-oriented novel due to its topic and language. I enjoyed it immensely and I’m sure others who enjoy the same genre will too. I gave this book 4 stars out of 5.
Thank you to the publishers via NetGalley for providing a copy in exchange for a fair and honest review. A positive opinion was not required. All thoughts are my own.
3.5 out of 5 stars -- This is the 4th book in the Mort Grant series, but only the 2nd I have read and it was obvious when I started that it would have been better had I been able to read those intervening stories first. The setting is Seattle, and the two main characters are Chief of Detectives, Mort Grant, and psychologist Lydia Corriger.
Although a bit of back story is given, I had missed some key events -- namely that Mort's daughter, Allie, had been back, was supposed to have been kept safe by the Fixer (Lydia), but she had been kidnapped? had escaped? to be with a billionaire Russian gangster. Mort and Lydia had been trying to find her again, and they thought she might be in London, but had set it aside for the time being.
A young girl's body is found; she had been tortured before her death. During the course of the investigation into this murder, another girl is killed. Both victims had ties to a loan company that charged exorbitant interest -- and when the money could not be paid -- had been lured into prostitution. That was bad enough, but new connections indicate that this may have even turned out worse for those two girls -- perhaps a snuff killing? If so, who was ordering these, and who had set up this prostitution scheme? Many questions for Mort and Lydia to tackle as they delve into a convoluted and deadly business that may lead them to tie up some other loose ends.
This was fast paced and entertaining and although suspenseful, there just isn't enough real depth to the main characters (despite what I know of their backgrounds) to give me more than a superficial interest in their future stories. I'll likely read #5 whenever it's released, but I think the "Justice" concept is only barely part of the whole plot at this point in the series.
Thank you to NetGalley and Alibi for the e-book ARC to review.
Title: Fixed in Blood Author: T. E. Woods Genre: Contemporary Mystery Suspense Thriller Series
I cannot get enough of this series. The writing as usual was impeccable with enough twist to guarantee your head to spin. Seriously it would be more surprising if there were no twists and you could easily guess who the villain really is. The story starts after a few months where the last one ended with Lydia aka The Fixer and Mort's relationship estranged because of what happened to Mort's daughter Allie (yes this time around the book can't be read as a standalone compared to the first two). As Lydia concentrates on her practice and her new but more friends with benefits relationship with Paul Bauer of the Seattle PD and Mort realizing slowly that Allie was being Allie and Lydia was paying the price for it, they both get drawn into a new murder mystery involving young women dead and with possibly connections with a prostitution ring and snuff films. Now they work together to solve the crime while slowly rebuilding their bond. But unbeknownst to them, their villain was one they have met before.
Truly edge of your seat mystery with enough character development thrown in to get you addicted to the whole series, Fixed in Blood is one of those rare mystery novels with female leads being the bad ass and male leads being the soul of morality. With its fast paced action and nail biting plot lines, it doesn't sugar coat any real life situation but it doesn't rely on titillating the audience with any gratuitous violence or sexual content. The tightly woven story is enough to guarantee a reading experience that would keep you coming back for more. Mort and Lydia are characters that have become memorable and a beloved fixture in the mystery suspense genre.
“Fixed in Blood” eBook was published in 2015 and was written by T. E. Woods (http://www.tewoodswrites.com). This is the fourth book in the “Justice” series and Ms. Woods fourth novel.
I obtained a galley of this novel for review through https://www.netgalley.com. I would categorize this novel as ‘R’ as there are instances of Violence, Mature Language and Mature Situations. This Mystery Thriller novel is set primarily in contemporary Washington state.
This story picks up a short time after the third novel in the series “The Unforgivable Fix” ends. The primary characters are Mort Grant, Lydia Corriger and Allie Grant. Mort Grant as chief of detectives gets a case of a young woman who has been brutally murdered. Soon evidence surfaces that she was murdered as part of a ‘snuff’ film. A short time later he has another victim, and his team is in hot pursuit.
Corriger has a young woman as a patient who suddenly calls her up to say good bye, then disappears. Soon Corriger’s path crosses that of Mort Grant, as her patient seems to be unwillingly involved in the prostitution ring Grant is investigating. They fear too that the patient will be the ‘star’ in the next ‘snuff’ film.
Allie Grant is with her new, ruthless Russian drug lord lover, Vadim Tokarev, in London. He has allowed her a business interest in a brothel back in Washington. She wanted to run it on her own, but Tokareva yanks control away when he sees an opportunity to make more money. Soon Allie Grant realizes that while on the surface Tokarev is putting on an adoring act, in reality he may snuff out her life at any time.
This was a good 7 hour read of Mystery and Intrigue, though I do not think it was as good as the first three novels in the series. I give this novel a 4 out of 5.
If I asked you to take away one thing from review of Eeny Meeny after reading it, I would hope would be that I enjoyed how sick and twisted it was. The same goes for Fixed in Blood. It wasn't your typical murder read, this one was far more than that.
In this novel there's some young dead prostitutes turning up, with videos of their murder - snuff films, as they're called, being uploaded to the internet to websites that host such content. (Side note: I really hope such a thing doesn't exist :c) They're not amateur videos, either - they're high quality, professionally done, and the murderer's face/body is *just* out of view, so it's difficult for the police to come up with any leads.
That's the main plot. The sub-plot is that a lot of the characters have baggage and drama within their families, drama and emotional baggage that I probably would have had a much better understanding of if I read the other three books in the series first. So while the story is standalone, you'd definitely connect better with the characters if you read the other books to better understand who they are, where they came from, and why they are now. I did have a little bit of trouble keeping track of who's who since there's a lot of characters and I'm not always the best on remembering who's who when there's a lot of people.
The main plot and sub-plot were suspenseful and grasping to me as a reader, not to mention there's some plot twists in the story. Not everyone is exactly who they seem to be, and a lot of things end up being linked together, some of which I didn't expect at all!
Fixed in Blood by T. E. Woods is a very highly recommended 4th book in the Justice series. Mort Grant, Chief of Detectives, is on the case when a young woman is found dead in Seattle and discovered to be the victim of a sick individual making a snuff film. When a second young woman is found dead and it is determined that her murder was also filmed, there is an obvious connection between the two women. The two victims are connected to a chain of payday loan shops called Rite Now. Psychologist Lydia Corriger, the Fixer, has seen two patients with connections to Rite Now loans, so, naturally, her path crosses Mort's during his investigation. Mort and Lydia still have unresolved issues from when she tried to protect Allie, Mort's daughter. Can they set their issues aside and work together to solve the brutal murders? And is it time for The Fixer to return to work and make things right? What about Mort's daughter, Allie? Could she be involved?
Fixed in Blood continues the well written, fast-paced series by T. E. Woods. Woods keeps the tension high as she slowly reveals more clues uncovered by the investigation. I was going to rate this fourth book four stars, because I think readers new to the series and the characters really need to read the previous books for more background, but Fixed in Blood is just too good to dock it a star. The investigation has plenty of false leads and the twist in this one is a huge surprise. The Fixer/Mort Grant series is one of my favorites.
Disclosure: My Kindle edition was courtesy of Random House for review purposes.
Thanks NetGalley for sending me a copy of this book to read for my honest review. I loved this series, I've not had the opportunity to read one before but I'll sure start. I liked the way the the author wrote this so you don't really have to start from the beginning of the series without feeling totally lost. Granted, after reading this one you'll want to start from the beginning.
Mort has a couple of disturbing homicides on his hands in Seattle. They are similar in many ways. These murders also involves Vice, while they were going doing their job they ran across something that may or may not tie into these homicides.
This brings Mort and Lydia together again because one of her patients disappears into thin air. Lydia receives a call from her lost patient but it's through her answering service so she doesn't get to talk to her, but she does start at once to track her down. She has extremely sophisticated software more so than even the police and she doesn't have to wait on warrants. So she goes to Mort with this information and it weaves you in and out of some different scenarios. I loved the way the author has the ability to keep you on one trail than yanks you somewhere else.
Meanwhile, Mort is still hoping to get good news from his daughter Allie, who was kidnapped by the Russian Mobster, who is a monster. It seems they may have joined forces and it's pulling Mort down farther in regards to ever getting his daughter back.
This is a very, very fast paced read and I truly enjoyed it and I think any crime fiction reader will love it as well.
A young woman is found murdered and Chief of Detectives Mort Grant is on the case. They then discover a snuff film showing her murder online. Then it happens to another young woman. The link between them is they owe money to the same payday loan shop so that's where Mort focuses.
Lydia has a busy caseload and when one of her patients goes missing, she and Mort discover that she too owes money to the same payday loan shop. Working together, they try to solve the murder of the two women and find Lydia's patient before she becomes the third victim.
In the meantime, Mort is worried about his daughter, Allie, who has disappeared again and is rumoured to be living with a Russian drug lord in London.
This is the fourth book I've read by this author and the fourth in the Mort Grant series (I've read all four) ... I enjoyed it. Though it is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone as there is enough information provided. It's written in third person perspective and I liked the writing style. As a head's up, there is swearing, violence and adult activity.
Mort and Lydia are likeable. Mort insists on running the investigation legally and according to the books whereas Lydia, as "The Fixer, a former assassin, would rather do things her way.
I look forward to reading more in the this series.
Do you know Lydia? She's The Fixer, the only person you will search if you are looking to fix a problem that the justice couldn't. Only a few selected people know who she really is, the rest of the world thinks she is just a good psychiatrist. This would be a little bit controversial case, some young women are filmed while being killing making a snuff movie. Could it be that Lydia's patient is the next victim? This is my second book with The Fixer series, this book is more focused in the case, Lydia will try to follow the rules and help the police with this mystery. If you have read any of the other The Fixer books, you will know that in Lydia's adventures there's always her police friend and confident Mort. Mort has a not very respectful daughter, Allie who will be appearing in this adventure too, but still not ready to confront her family... maybe in the next book? I am waiting the re-encounter between Allie and Mort... would it be a duel to death? or a more or less cold friendly meeting? I suppose I will have to wait for the next book to know my answer... T. E. Woods will delight us in another mystery thriller where The Fixer will help the police in this race against the clock. Let Lydia enter in your home and solve your problems, she will fix your boredom with her adventures and mysteries. Do you have anything to fix?
FIXED IN BLOOD continues the story of psychologist Lydia Corriger as she returns to her life once more. Occasionally, she would assist Mort Grant, as he came to terms with his family to help solve some police cases. Now estranged, the two have gone their separate ways until two separate cases bring them together once more. In his latest case, Mort is looking for a killer whose been murdering young girls, filming it then posting the video online so people can pay to see it. At the same time Lydia is attempting to locate a patient who has just recently turned up missing. While following a lead, she accidentally runs into Mort and once again the two begin working together to solve the case. Meanwhile, Morts' daughter Allie, has been living in London and decided to send some presents to her nieces. Of course, the family wants nothing to do with her. Knowing this, Allie has begun to thrive in the new life she has made for herself. Even though, they want nothing to do with her, Allie manages to help both Lydia and Mort in ways they never imagined solve their cases. In this Justice story, the author has kept the story line going without allowing the reader to loose interest in the characters. In the end the murderer is complete surprise, as things take turns you never expect. (
I received an ARC from the publisher, Random House Publishing Group-Alibi and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
"Fixed in Blood", #4 in the Mort Grant detective series is a thrill of a read that is fast-paced and non-stop action.
Mort's daughter Allie is involved with a Russian Mafia gangster and is threatening her brother's family and her father in order to force them to accept her "blood" money gifts. She seems to also be branching out on her own.
"The Fixer" has retired and is concentrating on her practice and patients. When a client of hers goes missing, Lydia struggles with the urge to bring back her past as the "Fixer". Mort comes to her for help in solving a series of murders that are committed during the making of "snuff" films and worries that her client will end up being the next victim.
This is a very intense read and not for the faint of heart. If you enjoy a well written and fast moving murder mystery then I highly recommend this for your TBR lists.
Detective Mort Grant and psychologist Lydia Corriger are working on a case together. Lydia is also known as "The Fixer" which Mort knows. He had asked the Fixer to keep his daughter from returning to the Russian king pen mobster but Lydia had failed. Mort has been assigned a case of murders in the sex-slave trade including snuff films that hints someone in Hollywood is involved. Lydia has a client who has disappeared and she fears for her life.
A suspenseful and thrilling mystery with twists and turns and has unexpected plot changes. The writing is exquisite. It is a very satisfying read. As this is my first book that I've read in this series, I know I will be picking up the previous novels to read.
Disclaimer: I received an arc of this book free from the author/publisher from Netgalley. I was not obliged to write a favorable review, or even any review at all. The opinions expressed are strictly my own.
