This story has a lot of good in it, but it needs some editing.
Part of the problem is that I’m listening to it via Alexa, so I can’t skim or even make it go faster, and that was frustrating. Things like that whole conversation with Aunt Alice could just go. The battle was too long, since we knew it was just going to end with nonsense. That sort of thing.
That’s the major problem when you bring chaos into a story as a primary factor. You can easily wind up with either confusing nonsense or deus ex machina solutions. We wound up with a lot of that.
Structure could be provided with answers to the big questions that are sitting at the top of the plot. The who what where when why.. that mystery has been fun, but it can’t stay a mystery for forever. Now that things are spinning out of control, there aren’t any landmarks to hold onto.
The cliffhanger wasn’t even actually a cliffhanger because the audience is left with empty hands. There aren’t any questions because we don’t know what the hell is going on. It sort of just left me with a shrug. There aren’t any relationships to be curious about. She’s barely friends with the guys, including the one she’s had sex with. She hardly even thinks of them.
As far as the romance(s?) go, whenever the guys were on the scene, I just wanted them to go away. They were unpleasant. Since they were unpleasant, I wasn’t interested in the spicy stuff at all. Everything sex adjacent got weighed down with heavy introspection and confusing confrontations.
The FMC is incredibly selfish. Yes, she’s chaos and I’m willing to give her a lot of leeway with that, but she doesn’t stop to think of anyone but herself ever. Sure she conceptually wants to help other people, but she only does it when they fall at her feet. She never goes out of her way for her friends or the guys. She’s shocked when the poor fairy got murdered because she didn’t even think twice when she was told that her actions would put her in danger. She’s shocked that her “friend” is crying in the woods, despite the seven thousand reasons that mundanes have to cry in the woods. There’s something obviously wrong with the healer guy but she hasn’t stopped to think about it. She drops off the face of the earth and hangs out at the beach when she feels overwhelmed.. despite the fact that one of the MMCs is in mortal danger because she’s blowing off her training. I get that she’s ADD or neurodivergent or whatever, but that doesn’t mean she has to be a narcissist.
I like that she’s held onto that grudge about the locker. I really enjoy the whole setup with the two gods and her dad. I love the dungeon. I like her personality and how independent she is from the male characters. The humor is excellent.
So there is a lot of good in there. I just wish I knew what was going on.
Despite all this, I have to say that I was interested enough to read all 3 books so far. I’m a persnickety and lazy reader, and I quit probably 70% of the books I start within 5 chapters. I DNF several books a day, every day. So being interested enough to finish them really is saying something.
Destiny Defined was a good read and the author writes the story in a way that keeps readers interested, however, I feel that the pace of the story was just too slow. This book picks up where the previous book left off and I continued the series because its good plus I wanted to give Fiz character time to grow but that doesn't seem to be happening. She is just as clueless and immature in this story as she was in the previous books. She's surrounded by chaos, but she has a heart of gold and that's what makes me both like and dislike her. Her good heart will cost her it. There is so much more to Balor and the Goddess that is explained in this story. This story is full of revenge, action, magic, power, great friendships, love, betrayal and more but I don't think this is a series I will continue even though it ends with one heck of a cliffhanger. I truly enjoy the other main & side characters in this series, but the main female character Fiz just isn't working for me and as much as I wanted to give her time to grow and mature it's just not happening. This series is just coming off as too young for me even though there were mature themes.
Destiny Defined is the third book in the Chaos God series and It was happy dance time to be back in Fiz’s world. The story picks up from the pervious book and puts the reader back into the thick of things. Filled with engaging writing and a group of well crafted characters, some of whom are team players and some who would be more than happy to end you. Tangled relationships, intrigue, danger, magic, violence, surprises, secrets, passion, and emotion are immersed in an academia setting that continues to thrill. A long and perilous road lies ahead for Fiz as she comes into her own along with the power that is manifesting in her which shouldn’t be possible in a mortal. Another fine entry that ends too soon, leaves questions unanswered, and has one mind blowing twist of a cliffhanger!.

Book 3 of The Chaos God Apophis series. Read the books in series order for maximum enjoyment.
'As her fake marriage turns intimate and the lines between desire blur into something dangerously real, the clock is ticking. Fiz must master her magical power before she’s forced into a ceremonial battle for her life. She has to fight for a marriage she never wanted… and a love that might require her to destroy the very men she’s learned to crave.'
The characters were very complex and complicated and perfectly steamy together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building continues to impress and be solidly drawn. All in all a great addition to the series. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.
Grab a copy, kick back and enjoy!.

I have to admit “Destiny Defined” suffers a little from ‘middle book syndrome’ and there is a part of the book that seems to drag a tiny bit. However, the story picks up at the last part again, to ultimately end in a juicy cliffhanger. So for me it totally felt right to pull through the slower part. Also, the spice picks up, even though the romance is still lacking.
That being said, I feel like there really need to be some changes to the men’s behavior in book four if I’m ever going to be able to actually like them. I believe there is a reasoning to their behavior, but seriously: a bit of communication can come a long way. I hope the end of book will three will be the kick to the * they’ll need.
"No one but a kid can break a parent’s boundaries and walk away unscathed every time." - a quote said by Fiz from (Destiny Defined)
As a parent this was definitely my favorite quote in this particular book, and Fiz being the child of a chaos God definitely makes sense. I liked the first book in this series the best so far but I enjoyed this third addition as well. It did feel a little wordy at times but overall this was a fairly good continuation of the original story, and the cover for this was my favorite so far it's gorgeous.
Enjoyed this book. It picks up where we left book2. I found this book a bit slower than the first two. It obviously ends on another cliffhanger but this was to be expected as not last book in series. Can’t wait to read what happens next.

Absolutely love this book. I’m totally addicted to the series and I really can’t wait to see what comes. Next. This book is full of twist and turns adventure it really gets your adrenaline going.
Oh my goodness here we go again. So much happens in this book. It definitely ends in a major cliffhanger which now leaves me anxiously awaiting the next book.
