Fulgar is investigating a new problem. Strange sinkholes have been erupting, and their connection lead back to his damaged friend Binny. A sinister figure promises that Binny will never be free of the Shadow Mage.

And Binny agrees.

Events rapidly spiral out of Fulgar's control. He wants to restore his friend Binny from the taint of the shadowy whip that had possessed him. Even separated from the artifact, he is not recovering. He is still a pawn of a plan that will lead to an ancient temple and the dark powers that wish to use him.

And looming over it all is the question of what happened to Jinx, Fulgar's missing lover.

This was a whirlwind of action and adventure. It was fun returning to the world of Fulgar and picking up where Shadow Mage left off. The relationship between Fulgar and Binny drives the story as Fulgar has to not just deal with the enemy but people on his own side who see Binny as irredeemable.

He'll have to balance his friendship and his duty. I enjoyed this read, and could not put it down. Especially as the climax happened. The ending was bitter sweet, and led into the main Hero's of Time series. Shadow Mage and this book make an excellent prequel.

If you've read any of Kramer's book, then you are going to enjoy this one. His talent only gets better with age.

I gave Hero’s of Time Legends: Spiritual Guide 3 stars, if I could give it half points, it would be 3.5. I enjoyed this prequel more than the first one overall. The world building was easier to follow, and the story kept me interested throughout.

My biggest struggle was keeping track of the many characters and the constantly shifting allegiances. At times it became confusing trying to remember who was aligned with whom. I also felt some characters seemed overpowered while others felt weaker than they should have been.

Even with those issues, I still enjoyed the book and appreciated the creativity and ambition behind the story and world.

Spiritual Guide is an excellent follow up to The Healer that continues the adventure of Fulgar Geth into becoming the titular spiritual guide, that we see later in Murdoch's Choice. If you've read any of the Heroes of Time series (and you should), this book is a must. It weaves mystery through a story of redemption, betrayal, love, and loss. So whether you like action adventure or more emotional impact, this has it all.

The following is a review from my 12-year-old Son:

All in all, I’d say this is a pretty good book. I really found the plot intriguing, and it was a good quick read.
I did get mad at Fulgar a couple of times, and I thought the Anthro characters’ speech was annoying to read.
I thought that the action and combat scenes were good. I would really recommend this book to 7 to 16 year olds, or maybe Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings fans.
I really liked this book and would give it 5 stars.

Spiritual Guide fits perfectly into the Heroes of Time: Legends. Following Fulgar throughout much of his life in first The Healer and now the Spiritual Guide, the books flow well. Connecting the last of the explanations of the magical system and the legends that are referenced in the Murdoch series with a nice little bow.

It's true to it's genre as Kramer continues to build out his universe. I am certainly here to stay!!!!

A riveting read and the follow up with Fulgar Geth’s story expanded to the start of his adventures with Captain Murdoch.

A worthy addition to the series and a fulfilling read that will keep you in suspense to see how all the character arcs progress.

Don’t miss this - it is a Legend in its own right and lovingly written.

Book was very well done and helped me understand the characters a bit more from the previous book. Very entertaining! Wayne is an awesome writer and will read more from him.

My only complaint is that it was too short. Loved the story!!
