The Girl and the Ghost: Grand Opening

Rate this book
Josephine Eloise Thomas and her family are getting ready for the grand opening of their hotel. And with the surprise gifting of a beautiful tabby kitten from Josephine's next-door neighbours, the Martins, things are looking up. Until chaos strikes.

To start, the criminal mastermind Anastasia, hellbent on exacting revenge on Josephine, is still on the run. Then, the historical significance of Josephine's locket having been purchased by Louis XVII becomes common knowledge, so Josephine needs to keep her valuable jewel out of harm's way. And with their new housekeeper and guests roaming the chateau as it becomes a hotel, she must keep her family safe too.

What's more, Gabriel Barbier, the gorgeous French boy she thought was her very good friend, is caught up working on an art project with the beautiful new girl, Maude, and seems to have no time for Josephine.

Are the antics at the chateau just accidents or sabotage? How long can Josephine keep Louis a secret from her family? Will Maude get in the way of a budding romance for Josephine and Gabriel? And can the family's hotel open successfully?

Josphine and her father went to the village to buy a ring for Ellie. They were to have a grand opening for the Villa as a hotel. Matt planned to give Ellie a surprise that night. He always called her Jet. He also surprised Jet by asking Dion to value her locket. It would be left at the shop overnight. Her father didn't realise Jet was upset because Louis had been with her everywhere. He was a ghost and came out when the locket was opened.

The next day they were so busy preparing for the Grand Opening that they couldn't go to town. Jet had to wait to get her locket back. Things were going wrong, and Jet was sure there was some contrived plan to make it all stop a successful opening.

The Villa was looking lovely. Ellie had a vegetable garden. The rooms were decorated. The food was being prepared by the local pâtisserie chef who would be out at the Grand Opening to display the food. Jet finally had her locket and was reunited with Louis. So what could go wrong?

Matt was accidentally locked in his room. Jet found him hanging on the trellis outside, where he fell into the bushes below. Glasses weren't washed and had to be brought down via the dumbwaiter. The old mechanism dropped a box on Ellie's hand, and she had to have her hand seen to. Matt had crutches, and Ellie had her arm bandaged.

Would Jet ever explain about Louis to her parents? Her grandmother did understand, and she could see Louis too. Jet was also upset about a girl at school spending all her time with Gabriel. They'd been doing an art project together. Would they get to talk to each other again?

This is the third book in the series. I loved it.

The third instalment in this series was released recently, and before I even had the chance to buy it for my collection, I found it on the new release shelf at my library. I will purchase in the future as I love to have complete sets on my shelves.

Josephine is put through the wringer in this story. She has to deal with the uncertainty of whether she is Gabriel’s girlfriend, or not, when a rival interest tries to steal him away. And worse still, her precious locket containing the ghost of Louis the Seventeenth is stolen from her bedroom during the grand opening of her parents chateau. And, Anastasia Ivanoff, her kidnapper and notorious art thief from book 1, is still on the run.

A fabulous upper middle grade series that gets better with each book.

This instalment of The Girl and the Ghost has so many ups and downs it's hard to know where it will all end. I don't trust Sophie but maybe the next book will prove me wrong. I hope it's coming soon.
