A great historical novel that surrounds the death of Arius, who is a Roman Catholic priest. This is all taking place as the two emperors have declared it lawful to practice any religious as long as it doesn't impinge on the thrones. The interesting thing about this book, for me at least, was the research obviously done. This is a murder mystery wrapped In a history of the early Christian church.
I particularly liked the delicate treatment of Arius who led a sect denying the divinety of Jesus. He is a true villain in the Christian faith as he still rears his ugly head today in the Church. Mr. Anderson portrayed Arius with compassion and humanity producing an interesting, often neglected story. 4 and 1/2 stars rounded down.
