Stuff happens sometimes.

For Ethan it happened when he thought his best friend didn't like him anymore.
Ethan is not just bookish - he's book-obsessed, possibly the only boy with a mother begging him to put a book down so he can make friends. Ethan doesn't make friends so easily so he when he does make friends with Trent (they bond over a dinosaur book), Ethan is chuffed and his mum is thrilled. But then Trent discovers downball and Ethan thinks he's lost his best friend, his only friend . . .

Gosh, this is such an insight to kids navigating early friendships and so matter of fact and non-judgemental. You've nailed the voice, Oliver. A good, compelling reaf.

Great start to the Stuff Happens series, looking forward to reading all the other books and promoting these to the Y5-6 students. The situations, characters and dialogue feels real and I recognise a lot of Ethan in the kids I've had in the library over the years. Really enjoyed it.
