A cowboy meets an up-and-coming rock star and faces his fears of falling in love.
Playboy and up-and-coming rockstar Ryder Sullivan has it all--a band he loves, a career on the rise, and groupies in his bed whenever he wants. Cowboy Billy Cunningham enjoys his quiet life, but something's missing. Soon he discovers that what's missing is Ryder. Ryder feels the same way, and is ready to cast off his playboy ways and jump into the deep end with Billy. Can Billy face down his fears, put aside the complications of an eager would-be girlfriend and his pushy mother, and accept that he's finally falling in love--with a man?
“Love won’t wait forever. Make up your mind... We’d be great together. Give me a sign... I don’t wanna push you either way. I can only say so much. Your mind is your own. Take me now or make it all alone.” ~ Robin Trower (I Can’t Wait Forever)
When Ryder Sullivan meets Billy Cunningham, he experiences something he never felt before: a longing he didn’t even realize he had. His attraction to Billy is inexplicable, particularly since everyone tells him Billy is straight. Billy is sending out mixed signals and doesn’t seem to be attached to anyone, unless Ryder counts the jealous female friend who wants more than Billy is willing to give her. Billy’s behavior gives Ryder pause. Against serious misgivings, Ryder decides to see where it goes.
Billy flirts with everyone, male or female, but has never given much thought to how it may affect them or ever questioned his sexuality. When Billy meets Ryder, he is attracted to him and, as usual, flirts. With his mother’s pleas for him to settle down, get married, and have lots of grandbabies, Billy has never considered an alternative. But his feelings for Ryder are giving him second thoughts. Billy wants to be with Ryder, but is too afraid to admit the truth about himself. Instead of being straightforward, he dances around the issue, playing pull me push me with Ryder. Billy continues to flirt and even initiates sexual contact. Ryder tries to be understanding, but the hot and cold signals Billy gives him are driving him crazy. After one particularly frustrating argument, Ryder has had enough. He tells Billy to call him when he makes up his mind.
This was a particularly angsty book about two men who need to be together, but, mostly because of one guy’s indecision, have a hard time doing so. I understood Ryder’s frustration, but understood Billy’s reluctance at the same time. Billy could only see what he would lose, not how much more he could gain. Fortunately, love wins in the end. Thanks, Riley, for the great read.
This is my first book by this author. I just wanted to see if I liked her writing style which I really did and have already ordered another of her books to read.
This was quite a nice story a good length to read in one night. I liked both characters even if I was frustrated with Billy at times I felt like I connected with something in both of them. I was hoping they could overcome their issues for a HEA.
This was a relatively good book overall, but Billy's back and forth was a bit annoying. I understand where he was coming from, but it was like he didn't even give the yes a chance when he said it before he quickly said things to Riley that were not cool. I liked most of it, but more just to give it a 3.5 star rating rather than the full 4.
