ولد في القاهرة, درس في كلية الهندسة، قسم الهندسة المعمارية. حصل الفندي علي درجة البكالوريوس في الهندسة المعمارية من جامعة غرينتش، لندن، المملكة المتحدة، ثم لاحقا حصل علي درجة الماجستير في التصميم الحضري.

بدأ الفندي مشروعة الأدبي مع مطلع عام 2010 بقصته قصيرة" الساعاتي . حصل على جوائز من نادي القصة بالقاهرة، ومن ساقية الصاوى، المجلس الأعلى للثقافة، ومن جمعية الشعراء والمفكرين والمبدعين العرب، عن أولى أعماله، قصة "الساعاتى", كما فازت قصته "الذي فعله عبد القوي بروحية" بالجائزة الأولي في مسابقة صالون احسان عبد القدوس.

قال عنه الروائي الراحل فؤاد قنديل: منذ السطور الأولي التي قرأتها لك أدركت أنك كاتب واعد لأنك موهوب. موهبة حقيقية وخيال مجنح وفهم طازج لفن القصة وقدرة على تصوير الموجودات بشكل وجداني وروحي .. يعلو كثيرا فوق الماديات بما يعمق الإحساس بها ويعيد إنتاج العلاقة بين الإنسان وبينها. والمستقبل ينتظرك بشغف. بينما ذكر دكتور سعيد الوكيل عن قصص الفندي في دراسة نقدية: هذه قصص لا يجوز أن ندلف إلى عالمها موقنين بأننا سنجد الكثير مما سبق أن رأيناه عند غيره من القصاصين، بل إن علينا فرض عين لا فرض كفاية أن نتجرد عن أوهامنا لندخل إلى ما يوحيه إلينا النص من أحلام علينا أن نتشارك فيها بالحلم وإكمال بعض ما ينقصها عمدا. علينا أن نتحرك مع تلك النصوص بحرية تشبه تلك التي تمارسها إذ تفعل فعلها الفني والروحي. إننا أمام نصوص علينا ألا نكتفي بقراءتها بل علينا أن نحلمها.

قدم محمد الفندي برنامج إذاعي بعنوان "بحب السيما" في عام 2008، وترجمت قصص الكتاب إلى اللغة الإنجليزية والفرنسية، والألمانية والايطالية .

Mohammed Othman Al Fendi, Architect, Egyptian narrator and novelist.

He was born in Cairo, and studied at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Architecture Department. He obtains his BA in Architecture from The University of Greenwich, London, UK followed by a Master degree in Urban Design.

Mohammed Al Fendi started his literary career with a short story “The Watchmaker” in 2010 and few months later he took part in his first writing competition hosted by El Sawy Culture Wheel. He won the first place among the 330 participants and his story was reported among the best between 663 stories.

Within few years, Mohammed Al Fendi received several prizes in many competitions in Egypt and in other Arab countries.
He collected prizes from The Story club in Cairo, from El Sawy Culture Wheel for 5 consecutive times, the 2nd prize from the Supreme Council of Culture and was ranked 2nd in the Association of Arab poets, thinkers and creators for his first story :”The Watchmaker”. He also received the first prize for his story “What Abdel Kawi Did with Rawheya” in Ihsan Abed El Koudous Salon competition.

Novelist Fouad Qandil told him: “Since I read your first sentences I knew that you are a promising writer because you are talented. You have the talent, the imagination, the understanding of the art of the story and the ability to portray the assets in a sentimental and spiritual way. Your ability to make things come alive makes the emotions stronger and create a relation between these things and the human beings. A bright future is waiting for you”.
In a critical study for Dr. Said Al Wakil, he mentioned the stories of Mohammed Al Fendi and said that we cannot read these stories as they are but we have to go through them deeply to complete the deliberate empty places with our imagination.
