My husband might be dead, but I haven’t lost him completely. His identical twin brother, Charlie, looks exactly like him.

Grief has a way of binding people together, and Charlie and I understand each other in ways no one else can. If his jealous, insecure wife can’t see that, she’s the one with the problem.

We’ve both suffered an unimaginable loss. Of course, we need one another. How else are we supposed to survive this?

At least, that’s what I keep telling myself.

Since David died, my brother-in-law has become the first person I think about when I wake and the last person I text before I sleep. However, my mother-in-law has quietly warned me that what she’s witnessing between us isn’t healthy. But Charlie and I have shared secrets for years - things no one else knows or would understand.

All I know is this - I’ve already lost one brother. I can’t lose the other.

A gripping and twisty psychological thriller about buried secrets, broken bonds and coveting a life that isn’t your own.

Perfect for fans of Daniel Hurst and Freida McFadden.

Maria Frankland has a dubious internet search history and a very worried mother-in-law. However, neither of these things can stop her writing gripping psychological thrillers in which you’ll never find a happy-ever-after.

Her novels are mostly set in Yorkshire where you’ll hear the accent through all her characters. These are people you could live next door to, or closer still… don’t say you haven’t been warned.

Maria’s novels are fast-paced, down to earth and realistic. You never know what’s around the corner…

A fabulous book, another blockbuster read.

The impact the opening of this book has is immense! Maria Frankland's books always hook me right in, in a way no others do.  She always intrigues, right from the first page, pulling you in with those snippets of detail-telling some-holding back lots, until it all gradually unfolds.  Who is speaking? What has he or she done? Or played a part in doing?

Chapters are told from different characters’ points of view.  I really like this method-I read a lot of non-fiction: True crime; memoirs, and although this is fiction, I like it to be told from characters’ own experiences, it feels more real, and I get more immersed in it all. There is believable, natural dialogue between characters, and oh my, the detail!

What skeletons would be in this family's closet? What would come to light? I couldn't wait to find out. Full of family entanglements, pranks, rivalries, manipulation, and consequences.  All isn't what it seems; secrets; the past. What a tangled web.

Always real family and relationship issues, so her fiction is so believable-you're never there thinking right...., what? So good. It was nearly 1am, but I just wanted to go on reading!

This book gave me headaches-but in a good way! I was wondering about this, and that, and the other, and making loads of notes to try to see what tied in with what..... a fabulous reading experience.  Lots of intrigue, so much fun reading how everything unfolded.

Portrayed through scenes in the past and present. I love Maria's books, but here she's excelled herself. When I read crime thrillers etc. I do like to feel they’re believable-and this author's books absolutely are; every one of them I've read so far, so I can totally immerse myself in them.  It feels so realistic with the dialogue she creates, and the emotions running high between the characters.

Twins are fascinating, the bond they share; good twin versus evil twin; partners in crime; many themes to explore, and a great basis for a psychological thriller, I was really looking forward to reading this latest offering, and I certainly had lots of surprises in store. Things built up to a boiling over, and I was absolutely gripped.

A cracking read.

I received an advance copy of this book as a Beta reader and read it in one day. Another page-turner from Maria Frankland this looks at the dysfunctionality often presenting itself as competition between twins. In this case, identical twin brother David and Charlie compete for and over everything from their mother’s attention to their love interests. An interesting question raised is whether twins who are identical in looks are also similar in temperament. Is evil an inherited gene and how far can you push someone demure in nature before they snap? 5 stars
