I am 20/48 chapters into it. But the writing feels very confusing and repetitive in this one. Also i feel some chapters were kind of incomplete. hoping for it to get better :)

Holy hell, to start with their animosity was so damn strong, yet it was so damn swoony to see them fall. These two were pure enemies to lovers but the way they slow fell, it was pure heat.

Never did I think I would find myself reading a book titled Fangbanger… but here I am, with surprisingly little regret. 😂🧛‍♀️

In this grumpy vampire slayer meets grumpy warrior-turned-vampire situation, Leah has been hunting down her parents’ killer. When she finally thinks she’s found him, she couldn’t be more wrong, she actually found his brother, Marcus. 👀

These two end up working together with the same goal, but what they don’t expect to find along the way is each other. Of course, there are still plenty of secrets lurking around that could tear them apart. Because apparently falling for each other wasn’t enough drama. 😂

Some parts had me giggling, other parts had me going, “WHAT the actual hell am I reading?” 😂 But honestly, this was a quick-paced, short little read that was perfect for a break during the fall weather.

Was it completely unhinged at times? Absolutely.
Did I regret reading Fangbanger? Surprisingly… nope. 😂

Sometimes you just need a little vampire chaos in your life. 🧛‍♀️🩸🍂

Omg I do love a vampire and Sophia you really did your big one with this! I love, love, loved Leah and Marcus and how desperately gone they were for each other. I also love the trope where he is obsessed with her scent even when he hates her, and she interprets it as him thinking she’s smelly - classic. Also love the quote, “once you go fang, you need it when you bang.“ What a great way to start September!! 😌

The premise: Leah is a slayer who has been hunting down her parents’ killer for years, and when she thinks she’s finally found the vampire responsible, Marcus, it turns out that she has him mixed up with his brother. However, she accidentally has the two of them trapped together so they must work together to bring down Marcus’s brother. And of course they also realize that they are irresistible to one another along the way.

She was keen on getting her revenge for the death of her parents, but that meant fighting against some really powerful creatures. In order to find her piece, Leah had to defeat the vampire who completely wrecked her life. What she didn't plan was to fall in love with one vampire. Marcus was cold and brooding, but there was a strange connection between him and the slayer who traced him down. Nothing has prepared either of them for what was about to happen when their worlds collided. But will that be enough to transform them from enemies to more?

This was such an intense revenge situation! I must say that it took me a bit to warm up to this story, but once I got immersed into it, it became impossible to get out of it! That's how I ended up devouring this novella in only one sitting, becoming addicted to that constant bickering between our slayer and the vampire🤭. I liked how there was always a suspense which constantly intrigued me and I also liked that unique connection between Leah and Marcus. And that insanely slow burn has constantly played with my feelings throughout this book! I liked the way both of them have evolved and how they managed to keep their loathing inside them in order to fight an even more powerful evil. Their pact seemed to be easy in the beginning but I liked how everything got so much more complicated and how they started to have those secret lusting thoughts about each other🤭. It was quite intense and really hot!

I'm so glad that I've decided to take a chance on this novella, not knowing for sure if it will be something I would like. But knowing how much I loved the other books written by Sophia Travers, I felt like I needed to read this one.🩵

You need a novella that gets you in the Fall-O-Ween mood and also benefits you and others; then this is perfect for you!

Let me start by saying that the proceeds from this novella (and its bestie novella, Eat, Slay, Love) are going towards the Food Bank for NYC and the Chicago Abortion Fund. You can read romance and help charities- a win-win-win!

You will get a great read out of this one! Such a perfect way to get you into the Fall-O-Ween mood and benefit others! You can honestly read this novella any time during the year. But it will get you in the Halloween mood.

So this novella is about a slayer who has been hunting a vampire that killed her parents. But he's a very powerful vampire, and, well, she needs all the help she can get. Well, things don't go as planned, and they end up being forced to be in the same space.

How dare she be trapped with a hot vampire who also has a backward hat moment. The torture! I would take her place, but that wasn't an option. Plus, she's stronger than me, because I would have crumbled.

This novella was great and not at all rushed, like most novellas are. There was a well-balanced amount of story, spice, and just overall everything. I loved the moments these two had and was even laughing (when I wasn't blushing) at them.

This is one for you to pick and read, and you can love it as I did! Truly benefits so many people when you do read it.

A short, fast-space, spicy paranormal romance between a vampire and a vampire-slayer!

This really scratch the fated-mates itch I had! A really good pick to start the autumn reads; with an interesting plot to accompany the steamy romance.

This novella also answers the question “what would happen if we took a Rome-gladiator vampire to Costco” (laughs, that’s what happened 😂)

I’m interested to see if more stories come out in this universe because there are definitely some interesting characters in there 👀

Another novella collection with Rachel on the books !

This one I enjoyed much more than eat,slay,love . It still was a bit too much for me . I like vampires i’m not super into the whole Mate/Bond thing and it was mentioned far too many times for me . Like literally several times per chapter . I also feel like we kind of got repetitive plot wise having the same will they won’t they chapter by chapter .

I loved that he yearned that was very fun for me + i loveeeeee the little note and ending .

I wanted this to give i feel so close to you vampire diaries a few scenes did ! So win win!

I’ve decided that everything Sophia Travers writes is actual gold. I loved EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS! The enemies to lovers, the yearning, the sexual tension (OMG 🥵🔥🔥), the characters (love a bad@ss FMC and a MMC who is only soft for her), the suspense…everything about this was just amazing. I wanted to throw my kindle so many times while reading this. This was the most painful slow burn in the best way and let me tell you, when the spice hit? It f*cking HIT. This was also my first vampire romance and it might be my new favorite thing.

I really wanted to like this, but it felt like there was too much focus on the mate aspect and almost nothing with moving the plot forward... And maybe it's just me, but Marcus gave me the ick 🫣

I was pleasantly surprised with this! I picked this up on a whim after having seen something about it on instagram - it seemed like something I could enjoy and since pumpkin spice was back on the menu again, I was craving a halloween/fall coded book. And this definitely delivered that! I won't say that the plot was super ground breaking or that it changed my life or anything. And it does require you to turn off your brain a bit (the MMC may have had at least a small part in the death of her parents off page...) but if you can do that, it's super cute and spicy! The characters had a lot more depth than I was expecting to find in a novella and I will definitely be keeping my eyes peeled for more in this universe the author built!

Well… this was alright. 😭

And somehow, despite being longer than Eat Slay Love, it actually made me appreciate the concept of LESS IS MORE.

Because yes, we got more pages.

Were those pages actually USED???

Debatable.

Instead of feeling like there was more story, it just felt… longer. As in, longer like a chore. 💀

Which is especially funny because my biggest complaint about Eat Slay Love was that it desperately needed another 200 pages, meanwhile I spent half of Fangbanger wondering whether we could perhaps RETURN some of these.

There were so many random side characters introduced who I genuinely thought were going to become relevant later because WHY ELSE ARE WE LEARNING ABOUT YOU???

Nope.

Mentioned once.

Never important again.

Thank you for your service, random citizen. 🫡

And that was kind of my issue with the entire book—it didn't feel particularly well thought out. Things would be established as fact only for the book to turn around a couple paragraphs or chapters later and tell me something completely different.

And every time I was just sitting there like…

Did I miss something???

Did YOU forget something???

ARE WE READING THE SAME BOOK???

Because the writing was constantly contradicting itself, and after a while it became impossible not to notice. Especially in a novella where there really isn't enough space for me to forget what you told me twenty pages ago. 😭

AND THEN THERE WAS THE ENTIRE VILLAIN PLOTLINE???

Because what the actual fuck was that???

We spend SO MUCH of this already-short book building up this villain and the supposed threat. There’s all this anticipation that something is coming, so naturally I’m waiting for everything to finally explode and give the story some actual payoff.

And then…

Nothing.

Like genuinely. NOTHING FUCKING HAPPENS.

All that buildup for what??? DECORATION???

I kept waiting for the big confrontation or some kind of climax that would justify how much time we'd spent establishing this threat, and instead it basically fizzled out before it ever actually became anything.

Which made all those extra pages feel even more unnecessary because HOW are you simultaneously giving me filler AND rushing the one plotline that actually needed page time???

Pick a struggle. 😭

The frustrating part is that Fangbanger was fun. There are cute moments, the concept itself is entertaining, and it's the kind of slightly ridiculous paranormal story that I can absolutely get behind during spooky season.

But fun can only carry me so far when the actual story feels like it needed another round—or five—of editing.

And unlike Eat Slay Love, where I wanted MORE PAGES, this one could've benefited from being shorter and tighter. Cut the random characters. Cut the unnecessary bits. Fix the contradictions. And for the love of all things unholy, either DO SOMETHING WITH YOUR VILLAIN OR STOP THREATENING ME WITH HIM.

Because somehow these two novellas gave me completely opposite problems.

Eat Slay Love: WHERE ARE MY MISSING PAGES???

Fangbanger: WHO AUTHORIZED THESE EXTRA PAGES??? 😭

Overall, this was still a fun enough little paranormal read, and I didn't hate my time with it. But it definitely felt like a story that needed significantly more planning and tightening up because there were plenty of pages here—the book just didn't seem to know what the hell it wanted to do with them.

The vibes were fun.

The concept was fun.

The villain was apparently there.

Definitely an interesting take on the mating bond.

It started out well and generally wasn't bad, but the further I was, the more I wanted it to be over, unfortunately.

There are lots of things I really liked about it like the plot twist at the very begininng, so why they have to team up to avenge her parents. Also, related to that scene, the fighing was realistic in a sense that she's clearly weaker than him so of course she'll struggle and lose a lot, and that was kept up later on too.

When it comes to writing, it's really great that the chapters are so short. It definitely made the book more dynamic and harder to put down (only took me so long to finish it - by my standards - because of health issues, it had nothing to do with the text). The MCs voices in their respective chapters are also very distinct which is a big pro and made it more immersive.

Because the bond works quite specifically, there was lots of tension and trying to keep away from sealing it in increasingly creative ways. That was fun. Love some tension and weird ideas.

Oh, and the magical box of clothes was a nice gadget. I want one.

Everything that didn't work for me started coming around the closer I was to finishing. The thing which planted the first seed of frustration was the spice - there was a little too much, it got tedious and repetitive very fast, and it clogged everything else which I was actually enjoying. It's not that it's written badly, but at some point I forgot what the plot even was and started rolling my eyes at chapters which were just continuations of it.

The writing also got repetitive the longer I read. The plot was stuck for most of the book. They kept fighting one another on an emotional level. The appearance descriptions just kept being rehashed. I’m honestly sick of the words ‘bond’ and ‘mate’. It's a lot.

Lastly, the small conflict at the end was unnecessary and frustrating. It would've been fine if we'd forgone the whole thing. The timing was weird, the reaction was too dramatic, and I personally just didn't like it. It felt thrown in simply for the sake of it.

Generally, it'd say it's a nice read for around Halloween if you don't mind some angst and want something spicy.

I was able to read this book ahead of its release date thanks to the author Sophia Travers.

I would recommend this book to someone looking for Buffy and Spike vibes and a romcom.

This was my first book by this author so I was going in blind to her writing style. I can say that based on this book alone I am a fan.

The book was funny, spicy and it had action. At some points it even rubbed up against cozy vibes. I really liked that mistaken identity and dislike of reluctant allies to lovers story line.
While it did have fated mates trope, it was presented in a way that did not bring insta-lust into the story. She literally wanted him dead.

Leah has a great background story. She is fueled by her desire for vengeance and will stop at nothing to avenge her family. She also lives with a feeling of not being enough from not having her magic. She does however work with the resources she has which are her fighting skills, her witch friend and the house her aunt left her.
Marcus has a dark past that he has tried to rewrite to make himself more of a legend than he ever felt. He is also on the search for his brother and not for a happy family reunion.

I liked how they kinda had a “meet cute” but with it being violent as they both try to fight each other only to end up making a deal to work together until they both accomplish their goal. Having the mate bond between a slayer and a vampire is a little crazy and I guess we will never know if it was a magic spell gone wrong or something more powerful but either way made for some spicy scenes. Marcus really made use of his fangs and stamina.
I loved the over protective nature Marcus showed over Leah but also the funny side. A vampire in Costco in sweat pants, say less.

The battle scenes in this story added a great layer of action and suspense between all the characters and solidified just how strong Leah and Marcus’s mate bond was.

Overall, I really enjoyed my introduction to Sophia Travers and this story. I look forward to reading some of her other books in the future.

Apparently all it takes to drag me back into my vampire era is a grumpy gladiator-turned-vampire, the slayer determined to murder him, ONE BED, and a trip to Costco. I’m a simple woman.

Leah has dedicated her life to killing Marcus Antonius, which is already an absolutely elite vampire name. Except when she finally gets her chance, she realizes she may have gotten a few things VERY wrong. Now they’re working together, sharing a bed, and Leah is desperately trying to remember she wants this man DEAD while her body has some wildly different opinions.

The chemistry??? DISGUSTING. The banter, forced proximity, horny hostility, Marcus secretly being a giant softie for his slayer, and Leah fighting for her damn life not to want him. Girl, just give up. You lost.

For such a short novella, this PACKED IT IN with magic, blood, spice, supernatural weirdos, a magical wardrobe, A CAT, and somehow one of my favorite scenes involving a giant ancient vampire at Costco. Apparently my new romantic fantasy is bulk shopping with an immortal murder man. Who knew?

Fast, funny, spicy, bloody, and completely ridiculous in the best way. I laughed, I blushed, I tilted my Kindle away from the person next to me at jury duty because they did NOT consent to knowing my business.

Also, vampire baby. GURL.

Basically, Fangbanger is small but MIGHTY and the perfect little spooky-season snack. 🧛🏻‍♂️🩸

WOW! SERIOUSLY, WHAT DID I JUST READ?!?

Truthfully, I don't read much of the paranormal romance genre but something about this one tempted me far too much to ignore. I am SO, SO glad I gave this one a chance, as I ATE THIS UP!

Leah and Marcus were just 🤌🏻 *chefs kiss*.
I loved their initial hatred for each other, which slowly morphed into temptation and desire. With them joining forces to avenge the death of Leah's parents, the original spell that brought them together in the first place proves a weak excuse of their conflicted feelings towards each other.

Marcus has vowed never to be bound to another again. Someone he needs to depend on, if he wants to 'live'. As much as he has fallen for Leah, the stakes are too high for them to be together... But what if there was a way to make it work?

Leah is in fact the mate of Marcus, but Marcus also wants more for Leah, even if it means walking away from her and severing their potential bond. With a looming threat heading their way, they must decide if forever is what they truly want... even if it kills them in the process.

I seriously cannot recommend this one enough. It was so deliciously addictive, spicy and unexpectedly cute. I just know that if Sophia happened to write more, I would definitely read it, hands down!! 😮‍💨

Okayyy, so Sophia said, “let me make vampires hot again” and I am NOT complaining🫦

I had such a ridiculously fun time with Fangbanger! Leah and Marcus had the kind of chemistry that makes you want to scream at them to just admit they’re obsessed with each other already. The fact that he was completely captivated by her scent while she genuinely thought he was just insulting her hygiene?? I was GONE. The misunderstandings, the tension, the grumpy-on-grumpy energy… absolutely delicious.

I also loved watching Leah’s whole revenge mission get turned upside down when she realises she’s been hunting the wrong vampire. Being accidentally stuck with Marcus and having to team up to take down his brother gave us the perfect forced-proximity setup, and naturally the line between enemies and something MUCH more complicated starts disappearing very quickly.

And can we talk about the YEARning?? Marcus was down horrendous and I ate up every second of it. Add in only one bed, fated mates, Costco trips, and Luna the cat stealing every scene she possibly could, and honestly… what more could I ask for?

Fangbanger was the perfect mix of paranormal romance, enemies-to-lovers tension, ridiculous humour, and swoony vampire goodness. Leah and Marcus had me smiling, laughing, and absolutely rooting for these two disasters to figure themselves out.

Leah and Marcus prove that their love can survive anything by undertaking the most perilous of journeys together: Costco at full capacity. (You thought I was going to say vampire slaying? You’ve clearly never hunted for a carton of eggs on a Saturday.) Fangbanger is a snappy, sexy vampire/hunter romance full of Travers’ signature banter, and I highly recommend you pick it up this spooky season.

While I’m working on coming around to the fated mates trope (it’s never been my favorite, which is a cardinal sin in the eyes of BookTok), my biggest ick in this relationship is Marcus’ “little one” nickname for Leah. I’ve never liked it when the MMC constantly refers to the FMC’s smaller size - as a shorter woman myself, there’s just something about it that makes me a little uncomfortable. Fortunately, they’re either too busy fighting supernatural creatures or finding improper uses for hunting equipment for it to come up too often.

I would take more of Marcus’ siblings (Teddy in particular, my sassy, unbothered fave), Karina, and Dean in a heartbeat. If there’s one thing Travers excels at (outside of steamy romance, of course!), it’s hilarious, three-dimensional side characters.

After Leah’s parents were killed by the most powerful vampire alive; Marcus Antonius, she has been on the hunt on defeating this monster and seeking her revenge. She has trained her whole life to slay.. only problem is she never inherited magic like her parents. So she relies on summoning a potion to make Marcus come to her and just hoping it all falls in her favor. Will her ashen stakes and silver blade kill her parent’s murderer or did she just put her own life at stake?

This novella sunk its teeth into me and did not let go.

Every trope I love and a short read?? Highly recommend reading this in October as the book takes place during this month.

It gave all the feels and vibes it needed to give for entering spooky season. This was exceptional. I normally don’t rate novella higher than three stars but this one I fell in love with. It was magical, funny, had memorable scenes, likable characters.

Thank you to Sophia (and Ana) for the eARC bundle and for bringing these books into my life.

This is gonna sound a little hyperspecific, but if you're someone who enjoyed reading the slayer/vampire dynamic in 'Hot for Slayer' by Ali Hazelwood (but he's the vampire and she's the slayer), I would highly suggest you put this book on your TBR. I looooved this dynamic and the tension these two had between them. After a rocky start (because you know, she tries to unalive him and all that jazz), we get right into the thick of it (can't tell you why though, it's a spoiler). In between all of the prep however, we become witness to walls crumbling down and fangs sinking deep (consensually of course), and an immortal who is actually heartbreakingly doting. I was so chuffed by the end for their HEA, but I do love the open-ended aspect to the world (in case we revisit for some other peoples).

Also, please for the love of god, can someone find some magic to make me a clothes box that'll give me whatever I want to wear rather than me having to trawl through the shops. It's honestly a real-life need.

This was a fast, spicy paranormal novella with great banter. I particularly enjoyed the tension between wanting Marcus dead and increasingly wanting him for… other reasons.

I loved the magic elements, including the wardrobe that chooses some truly amazing outfits for our MMC, and the whole supernatural cast of extras added to the fun.

Quick, spicy and very easy to devour in one sitting. Plus, once again, there’s a cat involved, which earns immediate bonus points from me.

My only question… what happened to Julian?! I need answers....

Can we just talk about Leah and Marcus’s chemistry! They were so gone for each other! The tension in chemistry was undeniable.
So absolutely genius how he’s obsessed with her smell but he hates her so she thinks she stinks… Reminded me of twilight 😂 Leah is on the hunt for her parents and unaliver and mixes up Marcus for his brother thinking he did it. The slow burn tension was unbearable. I couldn’t put this book down. I really enjoyed them working together to bring down his brother. The undeniable attraction. The action! Them growing closer finally realizing their feelings towards one another period such a unique take on vampire X slayer. I definitely recommend you read this novella.

First of all, hate this title. It would only work for a story that was meant to be funny and tongue-in-cheek about the whole vampire sex thing, but this was not that. This story took itself seriously except for this title, which screams "I don't take myself seriously". So, I hate the title for this story. Cover is great though.

I liked this story though! It took me some time to get into it, but eventually I just decided to ride the waves and I had a decent time. I like the true enemies to lovers situation here and I enjoyed watching them fall, especially Marcus. I DID have to remind myself a few times that this is a novella because there were some pacing issues but if I reminded myself it was a novella, then I could ignore them.

I think (completely unsolicited advice incoming) that if this author reworked this story, making it a full novel and fixing the pacing problems and removing the many (!!!) repeated phrases.. This could be so good. I saw potential here!! As is though, I just had a good time, not a great time.

Just like the first, this is a very fun novella! Though, if I had to choose, I liked the first just a little more. I heard the author may write more in this world and I’d love that!

I’m a sucker for forced allies-to-lovers! (Pun intended😜). Their chemistry and banter is palpable from the very start. I loved that Marcus and Leah both talked a big game at first, but they were hurting. The mighty vampire and the stabby slayer turned out to be big softies.😍

Though, I thought the ending was a bit anticlimactic. Julian was such a big threat, but the final battle felt too easy. To be fair, it’s only a novella, so it didn’t bother me too much.

If you’re looking for a cure to a reading slump, wanting something quick, or a lover of paranormal romance, this series is for you! Plus, it’s going to two really important charities.
