Sterling is forty-three, six-foot-five, and sounds like he's already deciding my life for me before I finish explaining why I need help. He's a billionaire. A hockey legend. The kind of man who sends a car before you've said yes.
Hours later, I'm in his passenger seat with a duffel bag and a condition I'd rather die than explain.
My breasts produce milk. No pregnancy, no baby—just a body that won't stop leaking and a mother who stopped answering her phone. I've been managing it alone for a year with my arms crossed and my pride clenched tight.
Sterling doesn't let me manage it alone.
His hands. His mouth. The relief that turns into heat that turns into the kind of need I've never let myself feel because wanting things has only ever gotten me abandoned. He empties me in bathrooms, in gardens, on stone tables in broad daylight, and every time he puts his mouth on me I lose another piece of the wall I built to survive.
He's twenty-four years older. He's my stepfather. He's the man who offered me a future I'd stopped believing in.
I should be careful. Should protect myself.
I don't.
They'll call it wrong. Forbidden. Disgusting. The hockey legend and his stepdaughter, the age gap, the baby I'm carrying that proves exactly how little we held back.
Pretty sure AI wrote this or they used it to heavily edit. The explanations are long and repetitive. No real emotion which for a quick smutt read can be fine except this was just too hollow. It did make me laugh though.
Every once in a while I do have fun stepping out of my own comfort zone and read something I usually wouldn't. And yesterday this was it 🤭
By no means am I yucking on anyone's yum, or kink shaming. I am, however, not too impressed by the writing of this book.
Sutton, a 19 year old woman, are being evicted and as a last resort she calls her "stepfather" to ask for help. He says yes in an instant.
The fact that her mother had married Sterling and divorced him after 6 months, after her cheating with another man, and Sutton only had seen Sterling once (at the wedding) I feel like calling him a stepfather is a stretch. The book, as you might have guessed, contains intimacy between the two and that is more like having some morally lines blurred. In my opinion. He is her mother's ex after all.
Anyway! The writing feels repetative and the ideas of their relationship as stepfather and stepdaughter is continually contradictory throughout the book. Which really irks me. In their own minds they keep thinking about this boundary, but in the intimate scenes they, especially Sterling, seems to really own it by continuously expressing it. Either you own it or you don't 🙄
Otherwise there was a lack of emotion in this. It felt very dry, even with some of the most emotional scenes.
The book is short and yes, I did finish it. I am not opposed to someone finding romance so I was curious as to how their story would end. Which was actually sweet.
Will I read more from this author? No. I didn't find it very interesting, and the writing wasn't all that much to brag about, but it was fun trying something else.
Back in the day I remember everyone being all crazy about Fifty Shades of Grey. I also tried reading Haunting Adeline (will read the sequel at some point). And while they had more bones to the story as they are longer books, the repetativeness of it all brought me back to how little I enjoyed Fifty Shades of Grey when I eventually decided to read them.
Finally!! A book that's different than the others that I've read from this author, but with the same story. Sounds confusing I know, but if you've read the others, you would understand. I still don't understand why people are so against this stepfather romance. They briefly met at a wedding & 6 months later, they're nothing. He wasn't there to raise her. They never lived together with the dynamic of him being a parental figure. I do kind of wish there was more on her mother after her showdown. Just a little mention that maybe she tried to reach out again or that maybe she tried to play on Sutton's guilt? Not that I wanted Sutton to welcome her back, but her putting her in her place. So her mom feels what it's like. I'm still a little weirded out on the lactation thing, but not enough to keep me from reading this. Obviously. I'd recommend this if this is your first time with it. If you've read the others by this author & liked it, I'd definitely say this is one of the better ones. On to the next.
This is the first time reading this author and I have to say I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was really well written. I love that. There was a little bit of angst, but it wasn’t dragging out. It was a little taboo, but not really and I don’t mind that. I absolutely will read more of this writer’s books. The only negative I have to say about this book is the title. And the picture it doesn’t do the book justice. It actually makes the book look like it’s one of those Asian book writers lol and honestly, the book is so good and well written like I said the picture and the title just don’t do it justice. But onto another book by this writer to see if it was just one and done or she somebody I’m gonna put into my following. And I read a lot of books lol
stay with me now… this book is so much more than what the title or description portrays. i did not expect to like it so much as far as a “love” story goes, plus the connection, intimacy, & overall love between the characters was so so good! i honestly wish this book was so much longer, their story needed more time 🫶🏼
- “I'm telling you the truth." He leans in, his breath warm against my temple. "Your body carried three of my children. You think I look at you and see something to fix?" - this part made me tear up, the way he reassured her after she felt insecure 🥹
No, because why was I completely in love with them?!
Yeah, yeah I know, it's kind of weird and okay sure in the beginning I can kinda see that argument but like, whatever I dont care. They were so frigging cute and they weren't even family for real. They met like once for the marriage that lasted all of 3 seconds.
Man, what a wild ride for an abandoned young lady. She was able to find herself in the older man. A relationship that developed in her own fantasies first. He had something that she could only dream about. Loved it.
This is by far the shittest book I've had the misfortune to read. I wish I could wash my eyes out with bleach. This book needs to be burnt with the hottest of flames and turn into tiny specs floating around, actually even that wouldn't be enough for how God awful this was. Be weary!!!
A very nice introduction to a new to me author. I enjoyed the storyline and the writing style of this author. I loved the ability to reach the emotions needed for each scene. This may be the first book, but won’t be the last.
3,5 stars Sutton ends up asking her ex-stepdad for a place to stay when she runs out of money. He’s quick to step in and help, especially when she has galactorrhea and he helps milk her.
