ARC Review

Reina is my first ARC, and I was nervous and excited at the same time, but overall I had an absolute blast! I am not fluent in Spanish but it didn't stop me from enjoying the story.

At first, I wasn’t sure about Ernesto Damos and his intentions (wink) with Alejandra. When we find out in the first few chapters… I honestly felt like I was watching a novela with my grandma and tias. I was on edge the whole time waiting to see what would happen next. Ernesto definitely gave me whiplash, but what man doesn’t! Also, the spice was just right for this first book.

Oh, I LOVE Mr. Damos’ nickname for Alejandra! Every time he called her by it, I melted. This FMC was built for her role, and I can’t wait to read about her making more power moves in the next book alongside Mr. Damos! 😍

Overall, I completely fell in love with this book and all of the characters.

Warning: the last few chapters are SO good. I was literally on the edge of my sofa with my head down reading, and before I knew it, I was already at 99%! Ximena De La Noche please don’t make us wait too long for the next book!

He is the Head of the Damos Cartel and the CEO of Rey del Sol Tequila. She is a Nurse trying to support her family and bought to be his wife and mother to his daughter Camila!

***spoilers***
This was such a cute read! I loved that Ale has such a cute bond with Camila. Ernesto is such a dominating man towards Ale ahhh! The way he would talk to her and not let any man disrespect her! The ending really had me anxious thinking Camila was really going to be taken! With Ernesto’s uncle trying to take over this empire w curious to see what happens next!

General Thoughts:
**read the novella "Ofrenda" prior to this full length novel. It cannot be skipped.

This book was a Telenovella masterpiece!! I love a well done cartel romance that has complex and layered characters, lots of tension, high stakes and a strong Latine presence. This hit every mark.

Our FMC was utterly wonderful. She was strong and poised. She was capable and interesting. And she wasn't ruled by her circumstances and forged her own path. The perfect example of a strong Mexican woman.

The Mexican heritage woven throughout this novel was stunning as well. We had several cultural traditions blended into the story seamlessly. We had the building of an Ofrenda and talks of classic Mexican cuisine and traditions. Perfecto!! 👌🏼

I enjoyed the conversational Spanish that was woven throughout this novel. More than just the peppered in word or phrase here and there, this had actual conversational Spanish. But if you're reading for understanding, the context clues absolutely can help you out with understanding if you're not a Spanish speaker.

The MMC was flawed and full of angst. He was the perfect strong and broody with a hint of softness. The romance was just picking up toward the end of the book. This is a very slow burn as their relationship builds, which I think is a fantastic foundation for a long-term series. Getting to see their relationship grow and create chemistry throughout this book really set me up for a fantastic and steamy next book.

The stakes were high and the tension was building. I was definitely on the edge of my seat by the end of this book and I cannot wait to see where the next book takes us.

No notes this was perfect.

Received as an ARC

Read within 24 hours could not put it down. There is such a smooth transition in “spanglish” that I didn’t even realize until a few chapters in because it was so seamless. It is marriage of convenience, single father, protective of the fmc. It is such a good dark romance filled with complex characters and so much drama. I have been looking for a book that gives telenovela vibes with drama, betrayal & high stakes and I finally found it with this amazing book. The female main character has such good characteristics, she is strong and passionate and smart that you will be rooting for her but also her big heart is what lead her into this dangerous world! (Also no one ever talks about disneys hercules that being my favorite movie of all time so now im very attached to her thanks) Of course the male is broody and protective that turns the romance into a slow burn. There is so much attraction and intensity to each other but since it is a “business” marriage they must hold off on being vulnerable in the beginning. No telenovela is complete without the evil family member and I can tell you I already hate this one. Such a great book I’m hooked and so excited to read the next one.

ARC Review

When I read Ofrenda, I knew that this book was going to be something that I would just eat up. It has a bit of suspense, dark romance, and novela vibes that I typically enjoy. I would suggest reading Ofrenda before diving into Reina as it gives helpful context.

The relationship between Ale and Ernesto is unconventional as events play out in the story. Ale, a strong-willed woman, and Ernesto, a man that exemplifies control and power. When Ale chips away at Ernesto's hard personality, she learns little by little the reasons why he behaves the way he does.

I love the way the author blends Spanish and English beautifully to portray different feelings. One of the phrases that stuck with me was "ta bueno pues" spoken by Ale's dad. It reminded me of when my grandpa used to say that exact phrase to me throughout my life and it brought back fond memories of him. In a similar way, I liked how our Mexican culture is represented in this book, something that sometimes I miss in other stories.

This book is about risk. The risks we take and the consequences of those risks. I can't wait to explore more of these characters and how the story will play out in future books.

Thank you to the author Ximena de la Noche for sending me this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Telenovela Style cartel romance? Yes please!!
Loved the complex characters, high stakes, and strong Hispanic rep.

The FMC is a total powerhouse! She is strong, capable, and forging her own path. The Mexican culture shines with traditions like building an Ofrenda and great food references. There’s real conversational Spanish with language that accurately describes sinaloense slang.

The MMC is broody, flawed, and angsty with a soft side. It’s a slow burn that builds amazing chemistry between the main characters. The Tense, high stakes ending left me desperate for book 2!

This book had everything I like in a book, tension, danger, emotional vulnerability and a relationship that slowly turns into something deeper than either character expected. Alejandra was that character that never felt weak. For her family she did what she did and that alone made me sympathize with her so quickly. But what I loved most was how she refused to lose herself, even after entering Ernesto’s intimidating world. She constantly challenged him, pushed back against his control and refused to simply become another obedient woman in his life, I admired her strength.

Then we have Ernesto... He was exactly the kind of morally gray love interest that keeps me hooked and sometimes makes me roll my eyes. He’s powerful, cold, controlling and honestly a little terrifying at times, but underneath all of that there were moments where his softer side slipped through, especially with his daughter. Their chemistry was intense from the beginning, but I think the emotional connection that developed later was what really made me invested.

One of my favorite parts of the story was how she connected with Ernesto's daughter. The scenes between them were so sweet and emotional compared to the darker atmosphere surrounding everything else. Those quieter moments made the story feel more balanced and gave the characters something real to fight for.

Casimiro honestly made me nervous every time he appeared. The constant threat hanging over the Damos family kept the tension high the entire book. I loved that the danger never disappeared completely because it made every emotional moment feel fragile and important.

The writing itself felt dramatic and addictive in a way that made it impossible to stop reading. I kept wanting to know if Alejandra and Ernesto would destroy each other or save each other. By the end, I felt exhausted and emotional.

Ernesto Damos really thought he secured the prize… whole time he walked into something way deeper than he was ready for. And Alejandra “Ale” Carrillo? She’s just out here trying to make sure her family is good, building a life where they’re not just surviving but actually living.

Listen… as someone who grew up glued to novelas with my grandma and my tías, this HIT. And not the dramatic-for-no-reason Univision ones… I’m talking televisión novelas… real tension, real emotions, the kind that creeps up on you and suddenly you’re invested-invested. IYKYK

What I really liked is how their relationship doesn’t follow a straight line. It’s complicated, a little unpredictable, and honestly keeps you on your toes. Ale stands firm in who she is, even when everything around her is shifting, while Ernesto is so used to being in control that anything outside of that throws him off. Seeing those layers peel back, especially on his end, made their dynamic feel a lot more real.

The language in this story? It just flows. That Spanglish banter! Ernesto was never ready for his paolmita's smarts responses lol! It adds so much feeling without ever trying too hard and made everything feel more natural and lived in. I loved how the culture was woven in so effortlessly without needing to over-explain anything.

At the heart of it, this book is all about taking risks and dealing with whatever comes after. Some choices had me like… okay but at what cost 😭 and I loved that it didn’t shy away from showing that.

If you're looking for a Dark Cartel Romance para la cultural, this is the one!

I’m definitely curious to see where this story goes next because there’s still so much left to unfold. Thank you to Ximena de la Noche for the eARC in exchange for an honest review 💛

5/5 ⭐️ | 3.5/5 🌶️

Alejandra is supporting her father and brother. Her father is receiving cancer treatment, and her brother is a freshman at Stanford but the bills are adding up and the pay isn’t cutting it. Desperate to fulfill these two needs and protect her family she sells herself for money. In exchange, she will now take on the role of a submissive wife. That is until she sees who her husband is and is more than what she bargained for.

Mr. Damos is a complex person whose history and personal experience has molded him into the cold, stoic man that he is. Alejandra’s personality and actions soon begin to slowly chip away at his frigid demeanor showcasing to us a thoughtful, hurting human who is willing to sacrifice himself for his family.

The buildup of the main characters love interest was so intense! There’s a push and pull that makes you yearn for something to just happen already. Being vulnerable isn’t easy, love isn’t easy and we see these two themes weaving its way through the story that adds an emotional richness to it.

The family drama had me on my toes waiting for the other shoe to drop and when it did OH BOY! I felt like an investigator, trying to figure out what was happening, and who executed these plans. The ending left me completely shocked. I need book two to be released ASAP because I MUST know the aftermath of everything.

This story is literally as the author describes it as, a telenovela—rags-to-riches, family betrayal, romance, revenge. Ximena wrote a truly captivating, jaw dropping, intense, drama filled, steamy story.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

"His words are not a compliment. They are a burden. A crown of thorns he has placed on my head. He chose me for my strength, knowing he was dragging me into a war."

If you haven't read Ofrenda, I'd recommend reading it before picking up book one. It adds important context to Alejandra's journey and helps you understand how she ended up where she is. Plus, Ofrenda is a quick read, so you'll fly through it before you know it.

This book took me a little longer than expected to finish, but that was purely because life was life (ing). Otherwise, I probably would've finished it in two to three days, which is fast for me. I also loved the inclusion of Spanish throughout the story, it felt authentic to the characters and their culture. I've been trying to learn Spanish myself so it made the experience even more enjoyable. I personally cannot speak Spanish but I can understand it.

Reading this book brought me back to moments spent sitting with my mom and grandma watching telenovelas. The drama, the tension, the family dynamics, and all the emotions in between. The story moved at a good pace, and there was never a point where I felt bored. I stayed invested from beginning to end, especially in Alejandra and Ernesto's relationship. I won't say much more because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone planning to pick it up.

I especially loved learning more about Día de los Muertos traditions and how beautifully they were woven into the story. It added such an intimate and meaningful layer to the book while honoring the culture and traditions behind it.

I can't wait to see where this story goes next.

When I read *Ofrenda*, I was completely captivated and left on the edge of my seat by that ending—I couldn’t wait to learn more about these characters.
And oh my god, *Reina* does not disappoint. Not only does she give us Latinx representation, especially of our Mexican culture, but also that family atmosphere that embraces you the moment you meet them—especially in the case of Consuelo and Verónica, who accept and take Alejandra under their wing the moment they meet her. And Camilla is such a charming little girl who steals your heart both because of her need for attention and the way she gives herself to those who give it to her—I love her!
Alejandra is that character straight out of a Mexican telenovela—so much like us—strong and a fighter who, despite the circumstances forcing her to accept certain situations, won’t let herself be walked all over or treated like a doormat by anyone.
And what about Ernesto? He seems so aloof and cold, but as the story progresses, we’ll see that facade crumble—and it’s largely thanks to our Ale here.
The story is a real treat, especially because it unfolds at a slow but addictive pace. By the end, you’re so absorbed in the story that when you reach the conclusion, you’re left anxious and desperate for the next book. Cliffhanger my ass—how can they leave us hanging like this?

If you’re looking for Latinx stories that feature strong women navigating the mafia romance genre, this is the book for you.

ARC Review: Reina by Ximena De La Noche
Thank you to Ximena De La Noche for the eARC

We love supporting Latina authors who write romances that put our traditions and culture front and center, and Reina absolutely delivered. This book felt like a dark cartel romance wrapped in a Mexican telenovela, complete with family loyalty, danger, passion, and enough tension to keep me glued to the page.

Alejandra was such a standout FMC. Strong, stubborn, compassionate, and never willing to shrink herself despite being thrown into a world built on power and control. Ernesto may be feared by everyone around him, but watching Ale slowly crack through that cold exterior was the real hook for me. Their dynamic is possessive, messy, and simmering with tension.

But honestly? The cultural representation stole my heart. The conversational Spanish, the references to Mexican traditions, the warmth of family despite the chaos around them. It felt authentic in a way that hit emotionally. Camilla was also an absolute scene stealer, I LOVE BOOKS that bring in children as side characters who abecome the center of the show! Protect that girl at all costs!

The suspense kept me hooked, the spice was IMMACULATE AND HOT, right up until that ending... leaving me stressed in the best way.

Ofrenda left me wanting more of Alejandra’s story and let me just say, Renia absolutely delivered.

Reina continues Alejandra’s journey and really shows us the kind of woman she is: strong, smart, independent, caring, and completely unapologetic a true Latina baddie who will do whatever it takes for the people she loves. Forced to give up her freedom to save her father and help her brother build a better life, Alejandra sacrifices everything… but never loses herself in the process. What she doesn’t expect is to also give her heart not just to Ernesto, but to his daughter, Camilla.I loved watching her strength, her resilience, and her willingness to fight for what’s right, no matter the cost.

And Ernesto… don’t even get me started. That cold, guarded exterior? Completely addictive. The way he protects what’s his and carries that commanding, boss energy had me hooked fast.

If you’re looking for a dark cartel romance with strong Latino representation, this is it. I can’t wait to keep going with this series.

***ARC Review*** I would like to introduce myself has the new Mrs. Damos 🤭🤣 lol The way I was soooo hooked and sat for all these characters!!! When reading it I read it as if it was me real life binging a t.v. series (telenovela) I'm sooo obsessed with Ale and Ernesto and also the bond she has with his daughter 😭 ughhh I cannot wait to get more in book two!!! I also cannot wait to get the other Damos siblings books 😮‍💨🙌 this series will have me hooked!!!!!!!

Ale has to be one of the best FMCs she was not annoying one bit to me she actually has some sense and very mature and I LOVED that so much!!!

Ernesto was such an asshole but I also loved that about him (getting why he was so grumpy also makes sense) it made him more appealing for me hehe 🤣🤭 I like a challenge.

I loveeee all the side characters soooo much!!! Her dad has my heart I just adore him sooo much!!! I also did not expect to get emotional but I did and it was when she mentioned her nana 🥺 made me think of my nana who passed a few years ago that I miss and think about everyday. ❤️

I need the next book, pero ya!!! I am so in love with this story. It has telenovela to the core and I need production teams to contact Ms DeLaNoche because I want to see this on the screen! So much drama, tension, danger, and spice!!
My biggest appreciation were the conversations were in español, I loved it so much. It added much more depth to the characters and story as a whole. Also Google Translate exists so you’ll be fine if you’re a no sabo kid.
I absolutely love Alejandra, her fire, her strength, and her humor. Not only that but she’s a curvy girl!! Love that!
Her and Ernesto have the best banter, tension, and chemistry. But Ernesto made me so mad, I don’t think I’ve had a MMC get me so angry, but I just want him to stop being so stubborn!! But I still love him lol! He’s a red flag for sure with emotional baggage but if there is anyone to tear down his walls it’s Ale.
This book reminded me why I love this genre, I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to see what happens next!!

Ale makes a desperate bargain in order to take care of her sick father and younger brother, which alters the course of her life. She finds herself married to a billionaire with ties to the cartel.

Slow burn
Possessive and overprotective MMC
Touch her and 💀
Single Dad
Latine Love
Spanglish
A few explicit scenes 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
Curvy FMC

Reina was much more than I expected but then again most books I read are. I tend to go into books blind. From what I saw online, I was expecting a spicy cartel romance. It was so much more!

This book is special in a sense that it is rich with Mexican American culture and uses quite a bit of Spanglish.

Also, if you’re ever looking for a book where the FMC has no problem spending her husband’s money… this is it. Lastly, I loved that Ale didn’t put up with Ernesto’s shit. She is a strong female lead that didn’t just accept her fate willingly.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and its connection to Mexican culture and familial bonds. And that ending is making me NEED book 2 ASAP!

If you grew up watching telenovelas with your mom, hermanas, primas, or even your abuelita, then this is the book for you!
I stumbled upon Ofrenda: A Los Amos Novella and was instantly hooked, even though it was only a teaser of what was to come. I definitely recommend reading that before diving into Reina!
I followed Ximena as soon as I finished the book because I couldn’t wait for updates on the rest of the story. I was so happy to be part of the ARC team for this release. Ximena did an amazing job making readers feel like they were part of the story and wishing they were in Alejandra’s shoes.
This book has it all: drama, romance, suspense and action. I’ve never finished a book in a single day before, which says a lot. When I say I was hooked, I mean I was HOOKED!
100/10 — I would absolutely recommend this book to everyone.
Aside from the book itself being incredible, Ximena and her team are amazing as well. There’s a Facebook group where she interacts directly with readers, and I love seeing an author who genuinely cares about her audience.

🌶️1/2 maybe 🌶️🌶️

⚠️ You must read the short novella OFRENDA first ⚠️

⚠️ There is use of Spanish throughout the book, as this one is heavily influenced by Mexican culture ⚠️

In Ofrenda we were set up for what was to become the greatness of Reina, book 1 in the El Reino Duet.

To keep it short and sweet, this new forced marriage and new step mother role finds Alejandra navigating and finding her footing in this her new social world.
If Ernesto her new husband thinks she will completely break and submit to him like other Ofrenda’s he better think twice.

Alejandra’s confidence and strength grows more the longer she finds herself in this new role, and Ernesto’s restraint starts to crack every time his new wife’s fire shines through.

Excited to see what’s in store for us in book 2, went into this knowing there was a second book and now to impatiently wait 🖤

There are some spicy scenes, but looks like the good stuff is yet to come 😏

I really enjoyed this book and how it was bilingual can’t wait for book 2. Alejandra in her desperate need to help her family she finds herself in a marriage of convenience and the new step mom to a beautiful 6year old girl named Camilla. Ernesto can be cold and a bit of an as*hole at times but I love how Alejandra stands her ground and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. She is also the only one that truly sees Ernesto and sees the weight he carries everyday to protect his family. I really like Camilla, Veronica and Consuelo. Love the way Consuelo is helping and teaching her every step of the way. How Veronica right away loved having a sister in law. How Camilla instantly liked her and I really liked seeing their bond grow. Love El Señor Jesus how even after he finds out who Ernesto is he was not afraid and stood his ground to protect his daughter.

Thank you to the author for the e-ARC.

After reading Ofrenda, I was ready and needed to have the first novel in the series in my hands. De La Noche left us wanting more and absolutely DELIVERED with REINA. The author does an amazing job at balancing bringing us steam, heat and angst AND darkness, violence and drama. I was immediately hooked as it picks up right where Ofrenda ends. Ernesto and Alejandra’s relationship is at its core what this book is about. We get to see them get to know each other in multiple ways.

I would have loved to see more into Ernesto’s mind and how he processed his feelings towards Alejandra.

Shoutout to Veronica, she’s the real MVP!

I would definitely recommend this to a friend but they need to read Ofrenda first.

If you’re looking for your next dark romance with double Latine leads, this is for you.

Ofrenda is definitely a must read before diving into Reina it sets the tone perfectly. If you love the drama and intensity of telenovelas, this book will pull you in instantly. It keeps you on edge the entire time, constantly craving the next chapter.
The curvy Latina FMC completely stole the show for me her confidence, her sass, that unapologetic Latina energy… everything about her felt so real and powerful. And let’s talk about the spice so well done, perfectly balanced with the story, and definitely delivers. The bilingual elements added such an authentic touch that made the reading experience even more immersive.
Overall, this was a captivating, drama filled read with strong characters, tension, and just the right amount of heat. If you’re into emotional rollercoasters with bold heroines and telenovela vibes, this one is absolutely worth picking up.

ARC Review
Enjoyed reading this ARC. Alejandra and Ernesto have a complicated relationship that starts out with them not caring for each other to eventually coming to terms with having each other for life. While I liked how their relationship was most of the time, some times I didn’t like Alejandra. I thought she under reacted in situations where she was “man-handled” and overreacted on something that wasn’t as bad as she made it seem. I loved Alejandra’s interactions with Camilla and how Ernesto finally accepted Alejandra cares for him and his daughter. The ending did build up suspense for the next book, which now I’m patiently waiting for.

I really loved Ale’s strength and selflessness throughout the story. I have a feeling that as the series progresses, she’s going to become a total badass. Ernesto was also a great character, even though his stubbornness annoyed me at times, but what man isn’t stubborn, lol.

I loved how Spanish was naturally woven into the dialogue and how deeply Mexican culture was embedded in the story without taking away from the plot. I’m aware that this is an unedited advance copy, but I did notice some repetitive paragraphs throughout.

The ending perfectly sets up the next book in the series, and now I’m impatiently waiting to see what happens next.

I didn’t read Ofrenda before starting Reina, but I was still able to fully enjoy the story. That said, I definitely want to go back and read it now to get the full experience.

This book reads like a novela! I could vividly picture all the dramatic moments playing out in my head.

Alejandra is a strong woman who’s had to make tough choices for her family. I appreciated that she never backed down and truly held her own.

Camila is such a sweetheart and brightens every scene she’s in.

Ernesto carries a heavy load as well, trying to manage his empire while being attacked from all sides.

I’m definitely interested in continuing the series, especially after that ending!

Five ⭐️Spice🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️Omg I loved this book! The telenovela vibes the heat that is always simmering between them. Their banter in English and in Spanish is epic! Ernesto and Alejandra are just top tier! The way Ernesto tries not to let Alejandra get to him with her defiance of him but it’s impossible she’s already under his skin and in his heart no matter how hard he tries to deny it. Alejandra who refuses to submit to Ernesto but she likes it loves it actually how he gets to her. Looking forward to the next book! Highly recommend reading this book! First I would love to thank Ximena de la Noche and her team for giving me the opportunity to receive the eARC. This book had me vividly seeing different novelas in every chapter but the most vivid novela was carita de ángel especially when mila was present in the chapter. Like every oldest child in a Mexican family Alejandra put her family first at any cost. Loved her strong personality and her ambitions that nothing would stop her to help her family not even Ernesto would stop her from achieving that’s goal. Ernesto stubbornness made me sooooo angry but he had a lot in his plate to keeping his empire and taken from his tío. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

Once I started I couldn’t stop!! This story got me hooked from the start. Alejandra’s story caught my attention in Ofrenda so I couldn’t wait for this release
Following Alejandra and Ernesto’s story was such a telenova feel. The family tension, drama, spice, and emotion in this book had me wanting to keep reading. Alejandra is such a strong FMC who does not back down. Ernesto a grumpy cartel leader who is starting to see Alejandra for more than just their arranged marriage.
