Does a mysterious coin predict a death? Or cause it?
After getting arrested for something that was completely not Twyla’s fault, she meets Dr. LaRue, the city coroner, at the police station. Dr. LaRue has a curious a coin that keeps reappearing in dead people’s pockets.
Joining forces with her friend, Adrien Morant (see Death Ring), the two Ghost Talkers investigate, but when the coin appears in another pocket, can they discover how to prevent a death that could be their own?
Worse, when Twyla overhears a family secret that concerns herself will the investigation derail?
All the stories in this series now take place after Ghastly Mistake (the end book in the Madame Chalamet series) and will contained spoilers for the Elinor Chalamet series.
Discover fearless women, clever as cats, partnered with men who fall first even if they do have a hidden agenda. Byrd writes riveting characters who are relatable but realistically complex.
Her book series showcase alternate histories with intrigue, fantasy, and the supernatural, while Byrd’s standalone novels are thought-provoking explorations of family dysfunction using contemporary settings and magical realism.
I received a copy of this book from the author and wanted to leave my impressions of it after reading it.
I have read all the books in this series and watched Twyla’s growing maturity in each. This one brings her face to face with a reality she’d never considered which causes her to wonder who she really is.
A man dies in an accident but a mysterious coin in his pocket disappears and turns up in a woman’s purse after she dies herself later turning up in Twyla’s purse after a couple of near death occurrences.
Naturally Twyla is looking into it as she was asked by a friend after the strange occurrence of the traveling coin and now it’s in her possession.
She and her friend she’s helped before in a previous case are both invested in solving this mystery which involves ghosts and unfinished businesses. Though both individuals never knew each other it seems the coin has an agenda and now it’s latched on to Twyla to have her get it where it wants to be.
Were both people’s deaths really accidents or was there another force behind what happened? You be the judge as Twyla and Adrien investigate these deaths and this coin which seems to have a mind of its own!
I enjoyed this book and my heart went out to Maria especially how she was treated by others including her own mother leaving her alone her entire life but still trying to get her mother to acknowledge her with what she did for her to no avail. I saw that in my own life and I’m sure others will feel similarly as they read it.
I recommend this book because of what it made me feel inside as I read it! Again when you identify with a character because of your own similar experiences you feel you are reading your own experiences in print.
This is a series about a woman who can see and talk and commune with ghosts in the living realm as well as the beyond where ghosts reside before transitioning to the next phase called afterlife. It’s a interesting concept and it has held my attention through four books now.
I invite you to check this series out. I think you’ll find it enjoyable as Twyla makes mistakes but she does it with enthusiasm which seems to smooth those mistakes where they aren’t so noticeable!
Oooooooooh! We're looking deeper into Twyla's family and I am HERE for it!
I hope we learn who her father is - or was. I feel like he'll be the key to a lot of things and an answer to many, many questions.
I always love seeing more of Dr. LaRue, but Tristan's sister was also a very pleasant surprise. I quite like her!
As for Twyla, she remains her usual feisty, indignant self in the face of the mystery-du-jour. Not even a death-summoning coin will dampen her spirit! I love her so much, she is so very, very young still, and I adore that it was her father who came to fetch her. We've seen a lot of her mother recently, but less of her father outside him being a stern and austere figure. He loves her so very much, it's quite clear.
I can't wait for the last two stories in this series!
I absolutely loved this book Twyla always makes me smile , the characters are rich and well rounded and utterly believable, the storyline was great plenty of action and adventure, a very well deserved 5 stars
