Is it too early to say this book's the best in the series?
It's always a bittersweet feeling when a series comes to an end, and I don't want to say goodbye to Frost Lake High, but it's time. I don't want to. I love this series so much. In a world full of hockey romance girlies, I will always be a football romance girlie. They all mean so much to me. Now, enough sulking. Besides, I am excited to write this review, so let's get into it!
Starting with Summer. Oh, she's a diva. There's something about her character which makes you want to root for her. I immediately fell in love with her. She carries a sweet and spicy essence, which is perfectly balanced. Having to start a new school in your last year of school, and no less your rivals, is difficult. I'm glad Summer adopted a 'fake it till you make it' personality, whilst also capturing how strong and front-footed she is.
I have nothing bad to say about her character because she genuinely was a delight to read. She is by far my favourite female lead in this series. A comfort character, some might say. Her relationship with everyone around her is amazing. Her dynamic with Rowan was hilarious, and I like that because it gave them a foundation of friendship. She can hold a grudge, but she does it for the people she cares about. You see that shine through with many characters in this book. Specifically, one character, but I'm not saying much. Read it to find out!
Moving on to Rowan. I always knew the third book would be about him, and I'm glad I was correct, because Rowan quickly became my favourite male lead in this series too. It's safe to say I love the leads in this book lol. Anyways, there are many reasons I enjoyed Rowan's character. He had good character development/growth. I like how the author showed his flaws and how he worked to be better for himself and for Summer.
Now, fake dating your rival's sister is something I'll always find hilarious and fun. This exceeded my expectations big time. I'm trying to keep this spoiler-free as possible, so take my word for it. Rowan is wonderful, actually beyond that. His communication skills are amazing, better than most people. Thank you, Rebecca, for making them communicate.
On to the plot, this book had all the tropes I love. I love 'rivals to lovers' so much because it shows the intensity between two characters, but it was mostly one-sided. Summer did not like Rowan because her brother and Rowan were rivals. But the rival aspect of this book fizzled too quickly, in my opinion. I wish we got more intense scenes, because I believe it would've made the book more vibrant.
As for the fake dating aspect, oh my, it was wonderful. I devoured it; it was so buzzy, and I was smiling the whole night. I have no complaints because it's exactly how I expected it to be in a high school setting. I love how they're both footballers.
There aren't many female footballers in books, and I'm glad Rebecca changed the narrative here. It made the football all the more enjoyable because I saw myself in Summers's passion for the sport. And that's healing, if anything. Also, the football aspect of this book was much better than the first one. It was interesting, and exactly how I envisioned it.
As for the side characters, I loved them here. Amanda, Rowan's ex, was a complicated character, but everything worked out. Seeing Claire & Austin along with Lacey & Vaughn was sweet. I love all of them, and I loved Vaughn so much in this book. He was still the same, but in love and amazing; Lacey and him couldn't be more perfect for each other. Same with Claire and Austin.
The dynamic this group had contributed a lot to the book. It has a found-family feel and ties the series up very well. There's this one particular scene of all the boys talking that I loved. It shows how much they care for each other on the pitch and off the pitch. Overall, it was what tied it all together.
Time to wrap up. I was on the hunt to find football romance books because I love football. However, it's a very deprived market, so when I found this series, I captured it immediately. I fell in love with all the characters, and that kept me here.
I came for the football, but stayed for Frost Lake High.
I love you, Rowan and Summer.

Just as good as Playing with forever. Rebecca Jenshak has done it again and she’s officially one of my favorite romance authors 🧚🏻♀️
Even though I’m an adult and this book follows high schoolers, it was still so entertaining and enjoyable. I read it in four days, so easy to read. The premise was so fun, cliche but still fun.
Super lighthearted. There was little to no spice (which was a plus because it’s not always needed). And I liked all the characters.
Loved seeing Lacey and Vaughn from Playing with forever and Claire and Austin from Stealing for keeps (even though I haven’t read Stealing for keeps yet). Not going to lie, Amanda AND Silas were getting on my nerves a little bit but something that I LOVE: characters that communicate. Oh my god! How much I love you Rebecca for not using the miscommunication trope. Thank you 🫶🏻🫶🏻

Rebecca always delivers such good time reads!
This was simply a good time book giving exactly what I expect from YA romance.
I read mostly contemporary romance and lately I prefer characters in their 30s or 40s, but every once in a while I like to read something about high schoolers and I can always count on Rebecca to provide exactly what I love about this genre!
This book was cute and messy in the exact way late teen years tend to be.
Summer’s dad said: “You’re seventeen. Your problems are supposed to be small but feel big.” And you know what? That’s exactly how this book felt.
Summer has to change school for her senior year, and not only that, now she has to play soccer as part of the team that was her biggest rival.
Rowan has a bit of situationship drama on his plate, on top of figuring out his future and breaking the news about it to his mostly absent parents.
The writing style was nothing complex and made this book super bingeable, and it was mostly lighthearted and cute, but both characters had some seriousness in their backstory that added depth - just the perfect amount not to make this book depressing or overwhelming, but enough to give them something deeper and make it interesting.
It’s YA but there was one kind of open door scene. It was not very explicit but I wouldn’t call it completely closed door.
I haven’t read Rebecca’s book that wasn’t at least strong 4 stars for me and this one once again hit the mark!
It works well as standalone! Reading the whole series is obviously encouraged, but you can pick your own order, I can confirm books 2 and 3 work absolutely well on their own.

Faking for Now is a fake dating YA romance, where they both play soccer, and she moves schools her senior year (used to go to the rival school). This is the 3rd standalone in the Frost Lake High series. This series has been such a delight from Rebecca Jenshak who usually writes adult sports romances. There is something about reading coming-of-age characters with emotions and tensions running high, and their whole lives ahead of them with so many decisions to make.
In this book we follow Summer and Rowan. Rowan is one of the soccer players for Frost Lake High, he plays with the other players we have followed in the series. Summer is from a rival school but because of school boundaries changing, she got uprooted her senior year and had to transfer to FLH too. She’s wanting to fit in to the new school and with her new team, while he’s wanting to make an ex jealous…so they start fake dating, but very real feelings start to emerge!
I loved seeing the other characters in the series in this one all make appearances. I definitely felt for both Rowan and Summer. Her trying to find her place and be accepted with her new team. Him realizing his parents don’t know much about him since they’ve always put their careers first and travel/are away from home more often than they’re home. It was sweet seeing Rowan and Summer’s connection with one another and seeing how the fake dating played out! All the soccer time was fun and he was her older brother’s former soccer rival/her brother hates him. The epilogue was definitely fun!

That’s what I’ve been talking about Rebecca! Their dynamic was sweet and easy. Their relationship developed naturally. We could really see their feelings were genuine and it was turning into something more. I fell for both Summer and Rowen. This is my favorite in this series so far.

I ADORE this series! I'm not a big YA reader (I'd argue this is the least-YA book in the series, but I'll get more into that in a second), but these books are some of the most wholesome and entertaining stories set in high school that I've read and I will read 100 more if Rebecca Jenshak keeps writing them.
There's something so different about reading high school based stories, and I understand it's not for everyone, but being swept up in character conflicts like overbearing parents, the forced proximity of seeing your crush at school every day, the drama that is unavoidable for teenagers, figuring out what life looks like after high school, sporting events or school dances- it all just feels very nostalgic and I love it.
I will say this wasn't my favorite in the series so far, but I love how the FMC was also a soccer player and how we got to see glimpses of the four characters from the previous books! And like I said above, for being a YA story, this book has some spicy content... so just proceed with caution on that front. But excited to see if this series continues!

I loved this book and Summer & Rowan so much! It was such a cute read and sweet read. I don't typically read YA books but I was hooked from the start. I loved the found family dynamic that their group of friends created. Summer and Rowan had me intrigued as their dynamic developed from friends to lovers. I love anything that Rebecca writes and reading this book was really refreshing as I typically don't read YA. Thank you netgalley, Rebecca, & Bloom books for the ARC copy!

This one sucked me in so fast! I absolutely loved Rowan & summer! I was waiting for his story and it didn’t disappoint!!
Summer is the new girl and just trying to be excepted at the new school, Rowan immediately is pulled to her & the banter between them is perfection!! Rowan is also struggling with his own family struggles, but watching him pull to summer & help her feel like she has a place made my heart swoon!! The fake dating between these two was so cute and fun!!
This book has so many lovable characters and I loved getting to see the other couples from this series!! If you love fun characters, banter, chemistry, and a slow burn that will have you falling right along with them, this is definitely for you!!

Summer is the new girl and just trying to be excepted at the new school, Rowan immediately is pulled to her & the banter between them is perfection!! Rowan is also struggling with his own family struggles, but watching him pull to summer & help her feel like she has a place made my heart swoon!! The fake dating between these two was so cute and fun!!
This book has so many lovable characters and I loved getting to see the other couples from this series!! If you love fun characters, banter, chemistry, and a slow burn that will have you falling right along with them, this is definitely for you!!

I absolutely loved Summer and Rowan! The fake dating trope is one of my favorites and it completely worked for them. They were such a cute couple, and while the story definitely had some cheesy moments, it felt exactly right for a YA romance. Their banter, chemistry, and the way they slowly became each other’s biggest supporters made it impossible not to root for them.
What I loved most was how Rebecca Jenshak captured what it feels like to be a high school senior. At that age, every decision feels like it will shape the rest of your life, and every problem seems so much bigger than it probably is. Add in Summer having to start at a brand-new school during her senior year. I loved getting to see both Summer and Rowan grow while also helping each other become more confident.
There’s something comforting about returning to characters you love and this book continues to remind me why I enjoy Rebecca Jenshak’s writing so much.

This has been such a cute series and honestly, I just love anything by Rebecca Jenshak. This is the third book in an interconnected standalone series and was a character I was ever excited to read about. Then it ended up being fake dating and rival’s sister and I just loved it even more. It was such a cute story and had a lot of YA elements to it. But personally, I wouldn’t say this is completely YA. To me, a YA book can assume the characters having sex with a fade to black scene. This book had some slightly more graphic things that I don’t think should be in a YA book. But this is all a matter of opinion and everyone may have a different one. But for me knowing that it’s YA and some of the scenes in here my rating did go down slightly for that. But if it was marketed as a new adult with very minimal space I would for sure rate it much higher. It was cute, and the characters are fun. I don’t know if we’ll get another book in this series. She doesn’t really set them up as if we will so we will have to see what happens.

A sweet, young adult romance between two seniors at Frost Lake High. The representation of the pressure that high school seniors face, how they are expected to figure out their future, how they want to succeed at every part of their life, how they have to deal with friends that have hidden agendas…this was all balanced with an honest and realistic fake dating to realistic romance between two soccer stars, Rowan and Summer. This is a great series to have on shelves in a high school.

First of all, I wanted to say that I LOVE Rebecca!!! She writes such good books, and I especially love her YA books!! Now THIS is how you write a fake dating trope in a high school setting. This is the sweetest high school series. I don’t usually like reading books with younger MCs but this series is written in a way that pulls you in and has you hooked.
Summer has to transfer to Frost Lake from the rival high school due to boundary line changes. She wants to connect with her new soccer teammates but no one trusts her. Rowan is the golden boy of Frost Lake and he has an instant pull to Summer. Rowan has recently had his heart broken though and wants to get his ex back. They strike a deal to fake date so they both can get what they want. What they don’t count on is developing real feelings for each other.
This was such a sweet and lighthearted book. And I can’t wait for what’s next!

Faking For Now by Rebecca Jenshak is book three of her Frost Lake High series but can easily be read as a standalone. You will meet the couples from the previous books because the guys are all best friends and teammates. This is a YA High School Romance between Rowan Blakenship and Summer Lindsey. A fake dating, enemies to lovers, soccer romance.
Rowan is a take it easy guy, always having fun, making people laugh and never taking anything seriously. He is a cocky charmer who is always happy and enjoys playing soccer with his friends.
The captain of the girls team is his ex Amanda and he is hoping for a second chance with her. They have been on and off for ages but he’s not a relationship type of guy even though seen his friends all fall.
It is the start of the senior year at Frost Lake High School and the boys soccer teams are having their annual scrimmage against the girls team. A girl with red hair catches his attention. She is a
talented midfielder and plays with an intensity like needs to prove she good enough. Her determination intrigues him so he baits her during the game. He notices she seems left out and how her team doesn’t pass to her. Rowan is shocked when Vaughan recognises her as Silas Lindsey’s sister. He played for their rival school Oakley and hates them so what is she doing at there school. He introduces himself but she knows who he is and walks away.
Summer was looking forward to her senior year with her friends Charlotte and Jill at Oakley school. Then during the summer they changed the district map and turned her life upside down. She now finds herself at Frost Lake. Home life is hard as her mum is always working because her dad has MS and her brother has left for college. Her boyfriend has dumped her and now she finds herself the enemy in the soccer team. She desperately needs a good season to get a soccer scholarship Frost Lake University.
Rowan is sweet when he shows her around school and she starts to like him which annoys her intensely. He then suggests a fake relationship to help him win back Amanda by making her jealous and in return he’ll help Summer make friends and use his connections to get her in FLU. Can Summer make the best out of a bad situation to help her survive senior year. She knows he has never dated before so will they be convincing so can they both get what they want. She is meant to hate him because he has history with her brother due to an incident on the soccer pitch but he is making it impossible not to like him.
He is being kind and thoughtful towards her and it turns out he’s a great fake boyfriend. I loved how she teases him and it was funny how her mood ring is always purple around him. We learn about his poor relationship with his parents, how little he sees them and how they are planning his future. Also how toxic, dramatic and hurtful his time with Amanda was. Things start getting very real as the feelings between them develop. Who is pretending it’s still fake and who will admit their feelings are real. A kiss ignites the sparks between them and he know he’s never felt this way before. She’s confused over the way he behaves with her compared to when he was with Amanda.
I liked how supportive MJ the goalie was to Summer and Lacey and Claire helped her settle in.
Vaughn and Austin understood what she was going through and the Whitlock twins were so funny. Amanda was annoying at first but did change by the end. The Frost Lake High series is fun to read and Faking For Now was another fun addition to this series. I love the nostalgia each book generates for me, as far as stepping back to my own youth, along with revisiting the characters I've already come to know.
Being young is tough in a way where you don't always know what's happening tomorrow, but you also have a lot of big feelings about everything and every option that could come along. I felt that with both Rowan and Summer all throughout their journey of this story. Everything is bigger when you are young and these Frost Lake High books are a reminder of just how big all those feelings were when I was their age. For example, how important decisions were and how big life seemed at every moment of every day, or how overwhelming the smallest thing could be. Not to mention experiencing everything for the very first time; first kisses, holding hands, or wearing your boyfriends number to his sporting event. 🥰 ....sweet sigh...I love the nostalgia of it all.

Rowan isn't necessarily looking for love, but there is a girl, Amanda that he has hooked up with on and off again from time to time. He likes to keep things super casual, so Amanda works with that plan. As the new school year starts, he's hoping they start up again, but that casual plan doesn't quite go his way, but when a new transfer, Summer Lindsey, needs help fitting in Rowan might have a solution to both of their problems. It's so sweet how he didn't see everything in front of his face, but that's teenage emotions I believe.

It's hard to make friends when everyone has known everyone forever, but even harder was to fit in on a new soccer team, when she was their literal rival the year before. Everyone around them saw how great they were together long before they could admit it themselves. Faking was the easy part, since falling happened right along side of it. The hard part was actually admitting it wasn't fake to begin with.
I loved revisiting with the Frost Lake High characters; Vaughn, Lacey, Claire, Austin and even Eli and Eddie. 😍 The friendship circle is strong and Rowan seems to be the very heart of it. For a guy who didn’t always see it within his own home, he's very sweet with his friends. How he likes to approach his romantic relationships started to make sense as to why he played them so casual when you find out more about his home life. 🥺 I was so happy that Summer came into his world and vice versa.

3.5 stars. While I found this to be a satisfying conclusion to the Frost Lake High series (at least, I think it’s the final book based on the epilogue and the acknowledgements), it didn’t shine for me the way the previous book did. That being said, I still stayed up late to finish it.
Due to the redrawing of district lines, Summer Lindsey had to transfer to her rival high school, Frost Lake, for her senior year. To make matters worse, her new soccer team not only doesn’t welcome her, but they are also openly suspicious of her intentions for joining the team. Meanwhile, Rowan Blakenship, the party-loving and easygoing member of the boys’ team, has problems of his own. He thought he would get back together with his ex, Amanda, at the end of the summer, but she doesn’t seem interested. Plus, his parents are pushing for a college plan that he doesn’t like at all. He decides to propose a fake dating relationship to Summer to improve both of their situations: Summer will gain clout on her team and get an insider connection to the head of admissions at the local university, and Rowan will make Amanda jealous. But, the lines between what’s real and what’s fake quickly begin to blur.
Summer has quite a compelling storyline and not one that I have read a lot. Seeing how she navigated her complex situation kept me going throughout the book. I also enjoyed Amanda as the villain. On the other hand, Rowan had more of a familiar story, and his side of things was more predictable. Each chapter mostly alternates between Rowan’s and Summer’s points of view, and sometimes, it was hard to tell/remember whose chapter it was, which was confusing and a weakness of the overall writing.
One element that was inconsistent with the previous book was how teen partying was described. In Playing with Forever, there was a lot more drinking, whereas in this book, there was some drinking, but nonalcoholic options were always mentioned, and it seemed like it was mostly other people, not the soccer players, who were drunk (with one major exception). This book centers on the same group of friends, so I found this inconsistency odd. Similarly, there was a much more explicit intimacy scene in this book, so I feel like despite less partying being described, this book might be geared to a slightly older audience.
However, my main issue with the book was the premise for the fake relationship. It didn’t have a strong backbone and was entirely predictable, even with some enemies-to-lovers mixed in. I don’t think my students would be as critical, but I had higher hopes for it due to enjoying the previous book so much and liking Summer as a character. Still, this was a breezy summer read and I am looking forward to going back to the first book to complete the trilogy!

Rowan was kind of rude throughout the story, yelling at his friends, discouraging them, etc. He was not the type of person you could rely on. He was almost too carefree in my opinion. I did not feel like there was any character development happening with Rowan. Plus, he was flirting with Amanda (Summer’s teammate) while he was with Summer, and I just never thought he was taking the “relationship” seriously. I did like Summer; she was spirited and determined, but again I saw issues with the way she was written. There was a point where she was apologizing to her brother for something he did to her, and that rubbed me the wrong way. It did not feel like a great example for teenage girls to be reading and/or learning from. The girls on her soccer team were rude and shunned her for an almost unrealistic reason, which was not something I could get behind. In terms of their relationship, I wasn’t ever really convinced that they liked each other, and when they did finally admit their feelings, it felt rushed and not truly fleshed out. That being said, I loved the friendship dynamics between Summer and her friends from Oakley; they were uplifting and supportive of Summer, and that was refreshing to read in between bits of drama. Summer’s determination and strength throughout the story kept me going.

That being said, I loved the friendship dynamics between Summer and her friends from Oakley; they were uplifting and supportive of Summer, and that was refreshing to read in between bits of drama. Summer’s determination and strength throughout the story kept me going.

The first part was fine, funny even. Summer was pleasant to read; however Rowan was not what I expected, that was not the Rowan I read in the previous books. Sure, he was the same nice guy, the lonely, but... I don't know, I don't feel he was the same easy going friendly guy who talked to Austin while everyone else was avoiding him.

She loves playing soccer, but the new school is questioning her intentions of playing for them. This is not what she had in mind before she left for college. When a classmate approaches her with a fake dating arrangement, she doesn’t have anything to lose. Resilient, passionate, and committed are all traits of Summer’s and she brings them to everything she does. Including the fake relationship that begins to feel not so fake.

Yet, his ex has no interest in getting back together with him, his parents have college all mapped out for him, and he has no interest in college. Having loved Rebecca for sometime, I have fully enjoyed reading her young adult series. This series as a whole has been fun, energetic, and a bit nostalgic. There is no amount of money you could offer me to go back to high school, but Rebecca’s writing reminds me of the good times I had. Being an athlete myself, I can easily connect with the grind our characters go through to play the sport they love. I don’t know if Rebecca has more books planned for this series, but if she does, I am looking forward to them. If not, this series ends on a high note. I will always recommend Rebecca’s books too!

Getting more of Claire, Austin, Lacey, and Vaughn made me want to reread the first two books immediately. This series has such a cozy, addictive little world, and I am absolutely hoping we get even more stories set here.

Ah, I’m so sad to finish this adorable high school series, but what a way to go out. This may just be my favorite, and that had some high bars to meet. This series may have been about high school kids, but Rebecca does such a great job at making it feel mature and real, bringing you back to those core memories and some of the best days of our lives. This book was no exception to the other two. It captured my attention, and my heart, and I didn’t want to stop reading. It was light hearted, low spice, so cute, and easy to lose yourself in. It’s definitely binge-worthy, and completely wholesome. I found myself constantly smiling, and had that cozy feeling when I finished. One that just warmed your heart.
Rowan and Summer were so adorable! They are both soccer players, but complete opposites. Rowan being the happy go lucky, life of the party, can make anyone smile, and has his future planned out by his parents. Whereas Summer is a little more guarded and reserved, maybe a little sassy, and is having to work to pave her way. She comes from a rival school, and is now forced to spend her senior year trying to not be the new girl and play soccer for so she can earn a scholarship. Along the way, Rowan befriends her and the two of them make an arrangement — fake date to help him win back an ex, and for her to make friends and get that scholarship. But fake blurs to real and these two finally caved in, stealing my heart along the way. You can help but smile and be their biggest supporters because they’re both so genuine and fun. They learn about each other and find ways to be each other’s biggest supporter. They have flirty banter that made me smirk, and have that cute high school love that just makes you smile.
This is book three in the series, but can be read as a stand alone. Be prepared to reminisce and think back to those glory days. Definitely a palate cleanser book, one that will leave you feeling content and cozy.

They're good for each other, providing support and encouragement when they were needed. I loved that summer was able to show Rowan that he needed to confront his parents about what he wanted.
I really loved this story, it's a fabulous YA romance with not much spice included. I enjoyed all the characters, even the mean girls ... because what's a teen romance without some mean girl attitude? While it can be read as a stond alone, Frost Lake High is such a great series you'll want to read them all.

this was a cute read. i’ve lately found a new found love for soccer (thank you world cup) and the soccer element was fun because i haven’t read a lot of soccer romances.
as i mentioned in my previous reviews for the other books in the series, it does follow high school students… however there’s so much more: issues with parents, having a crush, finding yourself and your dreams, etc., it’s almost nostalgic of being a teenager. do i miss high school myself? nope 🙂↔️ lol but it’s always fun to escape and enjoy a low spice, easy going, read!
summer and rowan are cute together. i enjoyed seeing them develop a friendship in their fake dating scheme (aka actually falling for one another) hehe. i was rooting for summer the entire time to have a good senior year and find friends/a support system <3 i also was rooting for rowan to stand up to his parents, and pursue what he wants, not what they want.

I kind of can’t get enough of her. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this way.
We love a down bad book boyfriend who doesn’t really realize how down bad he truly is. Enter Rowan Blankenship, the good time guy who doesn’t take anything too seriously. Rowan, meet Summer, your soccer rivals little sister who is being forced to switch schools her senior year. Sigh. It’s almost like this story writes itself with this epic tropes. Oh wait, I forgot one, Rowan is missing his ex, who dislikes Summer because while she is her new teammate, she is ALSO from a rival soccer team. Obviously, Summer and Rowan take all that info and decide to fake date to get Amanda’s attention.
Honestly, I’ve loved this Frost Lake series. All of them have been sweet and have given me so much of those teen sitcom/movie vibes. From the dialogue, to the tropes, to the teen angst, to the sweet love stories, it all just feels perfectly nostalgic to my high school years and all the shows I loved back then. Faking for Now is no exception. Rowan and Summer are dealing with so much in and out of school during their senior years. Relationships with their parents, with their friendships, communication, figuring out their futures, and through it all they find something in each other that they did not expect. They genuinely start out as reluctant friends, but when they decide to fake date it all comes a little too naturally to them.
I loved this story as an adult, and while I definitely think all parents should check out content prior to letting their teens read, I would have loved this book as a romance loving teenager.
