It's time for a field trip! Fly Guy and Buzz are going into a bat cave to learn all about bats. With straightforward text, humorous asides, and kid-friendly full-bleed photographs throughout, young readers will love learning all about these nocturnal creatures. Award-winning author/illustrator Tedd Arnold really brings nonfiction to life for beginning readers!
Tedd grew up with three brothers. His family lived on a farm in Pennsylvania for several years then returned to Elmira until Tedd was ten years old. His father's work then required that they move to Gainesville, Florida. There, Tedd's first art lessons in an abandoned dentist's office over the Happy Hour pool hall eventually led to a fine arts degree from the University of Florida.
He and his wife, Carol, started their family in Tallahassee where Tedd worked as a commercial illustrator. Carol, a kindergarten teacher, drew Tedd's attention to children's books. Their first son, Walter, inspired his breakthrough picture book, NO JUMPING ON THE BED!.
He and his family now live in Elmira. His second son, William, now stars in NO MORE WATER IN THE TUB!, a sequel to his first book. He has now published over 50 books as author and illustrator.
Our weekly read aloud in my library. A bit too indepth for the kinders, but by second grade they are loving it...especially when you get to the vampire bats.
Another Fly Guy books that we have discovered. We love the non-fiction fly books in this house so we found, "Fly Guy Presents: Bats" by Tedd Arnold. It's time for another field trip for Fly Guy and Buzz. This time they are heading to the bat cave to learn about bats.
I love these books for my kids because they don't seem like a normal non-fiction book. These are packed full of information and yet there is some fiction aspect to it to keep kids reading and learning. Their is awesome cartoon illustrations with photographs of Bats. It's a great book to read and my kids loved it and keep reading it. The text is simple enough for a kindergartner to read and yet not too simple for an eight year old to read.
Miss 6 likes Fly Guy and discovered this one with educational content. We both learned some new info about bats and liked all the different photos.
Miss 6 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
Fly guy books are a lot like National Geographic books but they are more kid friendly, they are set up almost like a comic book and I’m sure that will catch the attention of many children. This book is all about bats and will inform children about where they live and what they do.
I gave this book 5 stars because it’s a great book/series for kids to get into. The vocabulary and information is all very helpful and will give every kid more knowledge.
Genre: Non-fiction Grades: 1-3 I am always on the search for engaging non-fiction books for my students. Tedd Arnold weaves humor, illustrations, and photographs into this informative and entertaining read. There is a lot of info packed into 32 pages; even though Scholastic rated this "level 2," kids up to 5th grade might still enjoy the format.
Fly Guy and Buzz goes to the zoo and end up in the bat house.
This was so cool! I appreciated the photos of the different bats as well as their habits. I did not know much about bats and I learned a lot reading this. I am glad I did. It was fun.
I really like bats, so I enjoyed this Fly Guy Presents book. I loved the bumblebee bat that was only an inch long, and I also think it's really creepy that the vampire bat only eats blood, except the babies who drink their mother's milk
This is a non-fiction book about bats. It tells you how bats, sleep, eat and act. Bats are nocturnal which means they are awake at night and sleep during the day. They live in groups called colonies. Some colonies in caves have more than 20 million bats. That would scare me. There are more than 1200 different species. I found it interesting that bats live on every continent except for Antarctica. Some bats are really small, about an inch long. My favorite part was learning about the greater flying fox bat because it is really long. Did you know that vampire bats eat only blood? That gave me nightmares. Bats are the only mammals in the world that can fly. Some bats can see in the dark. All bats have really great hearing. This book is full of facts about bats. If you’re interested in learning about bats, this is a good book. I find bats scary so I wouldn’t want to read it again. I did like the pictures. I think if you want to learn about bats, this would be a fun book for 4-10 year olds. I would give it four stars. Review by Cameron H., age 6, New Mexico Mensa
Fly Guy is a classroom favorite. When you add Fly Guy with bats, it makes nonfiction books fun to read. This is a great read for any age. It has a lot of interesting information about bats. It is the perfect book to read around Halloween.
This is a much beloved group of books and because this one is about science stuff I rather liked it. You can read my longer review at: http://letterstocassiandotherfolks.bl...
Fly Guy has a lot of appeal to young readers. I think his nonfiction books like this one will have a lot of appeal for second and third grade readers, and even some 4th graders. The books are primarily captioned photos, and the facts are interesting. I will be adding them to my first grade classroom library.
