Divya Rathi needs money. Aditya Gupta needs a wife.
A practical marriage between two strangers solves both their problems. No emotions. No expectations. Absolutely no falling in love.
But sharing a home with Divya wasn’t the only surprise waiting for Aditya. There’s also Neel—her sharp-tongued, fiercely loyal little brother who seems to believe it’s his personal responsibility to make sure this marriage actually works. Between late-night conversations, unexpected laughter, and a boy who refuses to let either of them take life too seriously, the lines between arrangement and reality begin to blur.
What started as a simple agreement slowly becomes something neither of them planned for. And when doubts and outside whispers threaten to shake the fragile foundation they’ve built, Divya must decide one
Was this marriage always meant to be temporary…or was it the beginning of something neither of them saw coming?
Single guardian Marriage of convenience Forced proximity Strangers to lovers
The Scent Of You is a cutesy novella with just 200 pages filled with a green flag MMC, a loving FMC and a very chaotic seven year old. Needless to say, i adored this book to its core. The entirety of the book, i was either giggling, blushing or laughing at Neel's antics.
Usually novellas are very fast paced and so the development of the plot feels rushed. But reading this, even though everything happens really quickly, it didn't feel off-vibed or weird. It felt cozy.
Divya is a young woman who is the sole guardian of her seven year old brother, Neel. Throughout the book the banter and the parental love between the two felt heartwarming. I personally love Divya, because i think she's me. The awkwardness in new setting, the 'not gonna ask anyone for help' trait, the loving younger siblings like her own kid, all these felt very 'me core'. Oh, and I cant forget needing assurance.
Aditya is a green flag. That's all I'll say. I knew I'd love him, because i saw that he writes poems for her. And not even just one, he wrote an entire collection of poems in her name. As someone who loves writing poems myself, this immediately tugged at my heart. Even with Neel, he was so patient and soft, catering to all his wishes and still making sure Divya is comfortable. He's just the best.
If you want to write about a chaotic seven year old matchmaker, use Neel as the blueprint. I've never wanted to dive inside a book and squish a character's cheeks, but with him? i wished so bad. His little list of dates was my favorite, ngl. If i talk more, I'll reveal his chaotic antics— which I don't wanna.
Can I talk about the proposal scene? Like excuse me? It was so cute!!! The whole set up and the lil speech Aditya said, you bet I was giggling.
So, The Scent Of You is a very cute and short read that I — obviously — recommend.
This might be my favourite book by her so far! I still can’t believe it’s a novella—it honestly has everything. Divya is such a strong, independent character, always trying to handle everything on her own. And the moment she meets Aditya in that bookstore, their marriage of convenience begins. I love how he respects her space and wishes. The things this man does—taking care of her and her brother, cooking for them, planning the cutest dates, making her a bookmark, and even writing her a poem—I need my own Aditya now! Their banter, the little moments, the way they genuinely take care of each other… it’s all so heartwarming. And Neel! I love this character and how he is always trying to protect his sister and secretly playing matchmaker. He adds so much charm and warmth to the story.
