Knotty @ 50 - Santosh Nair
Genre - Realistic Fiction

“Life can only be understood backward, but it must be lived forward “- quote by Danish Philosopher Soren.

There are phases in our life which teach us life lessons and help us understand the real meaning of life. Friction, people who thread into our lives at different points, losing tolerance at one age, these are natural things that happen in life, and Nair has perfectly captured the essence of getting to 50 and unknotting these knots. It’s not about the age 50, but about awareness and understanding the ups and downs in life.
Through vignettes, we peep into Aarav’s life at different points, none of them sequential. Some lead to a breakup, others to a happy beginning. As I peeked into his life, I could relate to some of the happenings, some of them having happened to me, and I wished I had handled them better. It sent me reminiscing down memory lane, examining my life and feeling nostalgic.
My favourite chapter was Flight By(i)tes, where Aarav boards an early morning flight, unusually punctual, actually extremely early, and discovers a tiny toddler has the seat behind him, which is being kicked like a football when he had sleep on his agenda. It taught me restraint and how to handle a sticky situation without coming out of it angry.

Read this book to learn some lovely life lessons.
