Sometimes I can only frown upon books that are chosen to be adapted into graphic novels because I just don't see a reason for it. Not this time, though. This time I was cheering as soon as I heard the announcement and saw the stunning cover. Legends & Lattes is one of my favorite books of all time and the very definition of a comfort read for me. To be able to experience this story in a different format gives me all the happiness in the world, especially since the adapter and the illustrators did such a fantastic job here. If you don't know: this is the story of the orc Viv who is leaving her adventurer life behind to open a coffee shop in the city of Thune. Nobody has ever heard of coffee there, but she meets the right people and they figure it out together. It's a very low stakes story, more or less just a step-by-step guide to starting a business, but it's very dear to me because of its coziness and wholesome characters. It was lovely to see all of them get illustrated and their designs were top notch. It was super interesting to see the different fantasy races come to life and while we're at it: did you see the ratkin Thimble on the cover? He is the absolute cutest being on the planet! Other favorites of mine include Tandri and the giant teleporting cat. The page where the cat first showed up really cracked me up and it just adds to the story to see the characters' facial expression in situations like this one. The adaptation is very faithful to the original novel and I don't see a reason why lovers of the books wouldn't enjoy this graphic novel. At the same time this could be a perfect introduction to the world too. I think I feel cozier when picking up the novel and reading it for a few hours than quickly flipping through the pages of the graphic novel, but this story simply makes me happy in every format. Let's hope next is an animated movie or something like that. ❤️☕🥐

the adaption in this graphic novel followed the original book to a TEE. it somehow managed to fit literally the whole book in there with excellent pacing. the panels also highlighted the theme of recreating yourself & the foreshadowing of a certain...calamity...which were bonuses for me! for a lover of legends & lattes, this is THE trip down memory lane ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
the art brought the book to life...EXACTLY AS I PICTURED IT. it captured all the cozy vibes of the cafe and the adorable (and sometimes annoying) characters. viv & tandri's sapphic chemistry REVERBERATED OFF THE PAGES, thimble warmed my whole heart, and amity the dire cat was...DIRE. im so happy i got to revisit these characters 💖💗🥰💞

omg i literally ADORE sapphic cozy fantasy EVERY SINGLE TIME i read it 🤭 its literally just such a fun genre, and this was no exception. it was sososo cozy and cute and easy to read, i couldnt put it down.
i also lovedd the illustration style! a huge reason i dont read graphic novels much is that its rare for one to have a good illustration style but this definitely did, and it fit the book itself perfectly.
ofc the romance was so cuteeee too!! i also found the plot interesting as well

This reminded me how much I adored Legends & Lattes. After reading the prequel, sequel, and collection of stories; I had forgotten how truly wonderfully cosy and refreshing the original tale was.
The art was so cute and the palette perfectly matched the vibes of what I imagined.
I do wish we got more art of the actual cafe, but I think the graphic novel was a great adaption.
I don’t think I would recommend reading the graphic novel without the book as it does rely on familiarity for you to form attachment to the characters and understand the rushed interactions and timeframes as seen in the book.

What an incredible read. Yes, yes, everyone and their grandma will tell you that I’m late to Travis Baldree’s cute little sapphic fantasy, and to that I will say: yes, you’re right! You’re right! For once my slight aversion to booktok’s hyped up books might have worked against me.
Going straight to the point: the graphic novel is great. I loved the look of it—it’s beautiful, it makes you want to keep reading. All the non-fiction details like margins, fonts and all those initial informational pages have a parchment look to it that drew my attention from the second I opened (digitally) the book. Ok, here we have a lot of dedicated attention behind it. It started off my reading session on the right foot. The overall style of the illustration is very cute and appropriate to the vibes of the story; the colors are a bit muted and it fits perfectly. Everyone involved in this was on the same page, clearly.
Story-wise, I can’t make proper comparisons between the novel and the graphic novel version for obvious reasons (I didn’t read the novel yet), but, besides the point that I feel it would be a little unfair, the graphic novel does its own job of setting up the emotional core of the story and it does that with precision. The characters are well established (both in the story and in design), the plot points keep the story going with a reasonable pacing and it’s very enjoyable to see the details in the art that demonstrate the character growth.
Overall, I had a great time. It was a quick read, as graphic novels tend to be for me, but it did manage to convince me to read the novel version. Super recommend.

This was easily one of the best books I’ve read this year! I DNFed the original book because it was a little too slow and didn’t have stakes high enough to keep my interest, but I truly believe that Legends and Lattes was meant to be enjoyed in the graphic novel form. A plot that felt mundane and endless in the book became cozy and warm in the graphic novel and kept chugging along at the perfect pace. The visualisation of the characters was brilliantly done, my favourite being Thimble, which actually is the same as with the original book. Viv’s journey was incredibly portrayed, with nuances explored through the art and less through explicit description, and the character development was amazingly evident while staying realistic. The family and friendships she finds by the end and the story’s simple message of courage and kindness will stay with me for a long time.
110% recommend this on a bad day to leave you feeling cozy, safe, less alone and a little more convinced that there is goodness in the world.

This graphic novel was great. More specifically, it was essentially identical to the original novel so I think whatever you think about one you will think the same about the other (and I thought both were great). The story is solid, the characters are great, the balance between cozy fantasy and a little bit of plot is well executed, and the mouse character is ADORABLE!!!
I think that reading the book first and then the graphic novel is probably the best experience? Don’t let that keep you away from this version though! I'm just thinking that graphic novels excel in some areas (getting to truly see the setting and characters) but fall short in others (there is simply less detail, or more specifically, its easier to miss details if you don’t look at the pictures well enough whereas in a novel they get to hand-hold you towards whatever the author wants you to see). I feel like my brain was filling in some of the “missing” details in the GN that I already knew from the novel, but that could just me be. I suppose the point of this rambling paragraph is to say that if you read the novel you should definitely still read this. Hah.
I think the romantic subplot was a bit diminished in the GN version which is too bad, but you can always judge that for yourself.

The trailblazer of cozy fantasy comes to graphic novel world. The art is eye-catching, full of emotion and vivid colours. It matches the tone of the story very well.
I've never really read the source material, only heard tons of people talk about it. Now I was able to witness the story first hand. It's a story about friendship, community, love and hope. It's a bit corny and oddly romanticizing a gang of extortionists, but that's on the source material, not this adaptation.
I enjoyed the cast of diverse characters, a lot of them inspired by D&D: an orc, a succubus, a ratkin, gnomes, dwarves, humans of different skin colours, fey (I guess the serve as an equvalent of elves here), even a dire cat.
The story flows well and is easy to understand. I saw some reviews saying it's hard to follow due to its abridged nature, but I disagree. The only downside is that the romance feels barely there. Yes, we see the characters work, we witness all the coffee and pastry scenes, we meet the wider community, but the romantic development somehow gets lost in the crowd. However, I can't say is this a problem of this adaptation or is it the same in the original novel.
The art and composition is definitely gorgeous though.

I loved Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree when I read it a few years ago: it really made me fall in love with cozy fantasy, especially queer cozy fantasy. So the graphic novel adaptation (out October 6th) has been one of my most-anticipated releases of the year. I’m happy to say I liked it even better than the original. In fact, I think this story was meant to be a graphic novel.
I’ll be honest: I spent most of this book just thinking “hot orc lady” on a loop. Don’t judge me. What sapphic can resist a scarred, muscly orc woman with a heart of gold? Especially when she’s looming over men who are acting creepy to Tandri. The character design is perfect, and the illustrations are warm and detailed: they convey the cozy atmosphere of the story so well.
If you’re looking for a cozy, comforting, low-stakes meets high-fantasy graphic novel, I can’t recommend this one highly enough. It was a five-star read for me, and it’s my favourite 2026 release that I’ve read so far.

I haven't read the Legend and Lattes book yet but have been dying to read it - I have read the 2nd book in the series though so had an inkling of what to expect in this book and it really didn't disappoint.
The artwork is so detailed and really pulls you into the world created and the pastries featured will get your taste buds tingling!
I found the pacing good and was hooked from the first few pages and wanting to discover more.
If you're a fan of this series you really need to read this - you won't be disappointed.

I found the pacing good and was hooked from the first few pages and wanting to discover more.
If you're a fan of this series you really need to read this - you won't be disappointed.

It's rare for me to arrive (late as usual) to a BookTok and actually enjoy it. I tend to be disappointed and overhyped. But holy moly. This was an absolute delight.
First of all, let's talk about the illustrations. Absolutely gorgeous. Rittgers and Webb clearly poured their heart and soul into making this graphic novel the visual masterpiece it was.
And the story. Truly definition of cozy fantasy. This book felt like a warm hug. This is the graphic novel that I read first upon getting home from the library as a child. It was the one I curled up with a nice cup of hot chocolate and a blanket to read.
I truly cannot recommend this graphic novel enough. It is seriously the most adorable and heartwarming thing I have read this year.

Going into this, I have to confess that I am an absolute fraud because I have never actually read Legends & Lattes, the original novel this graphic novel adapts. I know, an absolute travesty. A disgrace to the sapphic reading community. So I came into this with basically zero context beyond the general cultural osmosis of knowing that an orc opens a coffee shop and that everyone seems to love this book. I was genuinely curious about how much I would enjoy it because I tend to gravitate toward stories with a little more narrative violence, emotional devastation, political unrest, existential crises, or characters fighting for their lives. A cozy fantasy about an ex-adventurer trying to figure out how to make a latte work in a city where nobody knows what coffee is should, theoretically, be the exact opposite of my usual reading diet at the moment. Instead, I found myself getting almost embarrassingly invested in the coffee shop.
As someone who reads a lot of manga and manhwa, I thoroughly enjoyed the graphic novel format, although I did spend a good portion of the book instinctively trying to read it right-to-left before remembering that, yes, this is a Western graphic novel and I am simply fighting for my life against the page layout ;-; Graphic novels that aren’t manga or manhwa are also something I’ve been meaning to explore more, and considering that my previous experience was basically just Heartstopper, this was a very pleasant surprise. I think the visual format works especially well for a story like this because so much of its appeal comes from the atmosphere. The art is warm and magical. Every panel has this lovely sense of comfort to it, and I found myself lingering over the shop as it slowly became more and more alive.
And speaking of things coming alive, I genuinely loved watching Viv build this little coffee shop from essentially nothing. The premise is so simple that I initially wondered whether I would get bored, especially knowing that the story deliberately chooses low stakes over the kind of relentless momentum I normally want from fantasy. There is no giant world-ending threat demanding that everyone immediately pick up a sword again. The central question is basically: can this tired orc convince people to drink coffee? Somehow, that became enough. I think the appeal is in watching someone who has spent her life surviving learn how to make a life instead. Viv is used to being useful because she can fight, and now she has to figure out what usefulness looks like when the thing she is building is a place where other people can belong.
Also, you guys know what the number one qualification for being a good and trusted barista is? Being gay. Actually, being VISIBLY gay. Luckily for us, our two leads are basically the pinnacle of both ends of lesbianism, and I had a great time watching them exist in proximity to each other. The sapphics are doing important structural work here, actually. I went into this wanting the cozy fantasy and stayed because I was invested in the lesbians. As God intended.
I also really loved the diversity of the cast and the way all these different fantasy creatures simply exist alongside one another. I don’t think I engage with high fantasy settings where multiple species and creatures are just living their little everyday lives together nearly enough. So much fantasy is interested in war, kingdoms, prophecies, ancient evil, magical bloodlines, and whatever other world-ending nonsense the genre can throw at us that it was genuinely refreshing to see a fantasy world where one of the most pressing concerns is whether people will develop a taste for coffee and whether the new café’s pastries are any good. The world still feels fantastical, but the story allows its characters to occupy that world through ordinary things like work, friendship, food, and finding somewhere to sit for a while.
I think what surprised me most is how much the “warm hug” approach actually worked on me. Based purely on my usual reading preferences, this should have been a risky fit. I generally want characters under extreme pressure, preferably suffering in some beautifully written way, and I have a documented weakness for stories that make me stare at the ceiling afterward. Legends & Lattes deliberately does almost none of that. It is interested in gentle beginnings and the small, deeply satisfying process of putting your life back together. Somehow, rather than feeling static, it became almost addictive. I kept wanting to know what would happen next, even when “what happens next” was basically another person walking into the café.
It is comforting to watch people make a home for themselves, especially when none of them seem to have expected to find one there. The found family element is probably what ultimately won me over. Everyone brings their own history into the space, and little by little, the café becomes a place where they can exist without having to prove that they deserve to be there. For a story supposedly about coffee, it is surprisingly interested in belonging.
I came into this as someone who hadn’t read the original and honestly wasn’t sure whether a low-stakes story would be enough to hold my attention, especially at the moment. I left this wanting to pick up the source material immediately, which is probably the strongest endorsement I can give it. If this is what happens when Travis Baldree puts an orc behind an espresso machine, I need to see what I have been missing this whole time.

I always thought this book could adapt well into a graphic novel and this did a decent job of it! It has a cozy, heartwarming style reminiscent of having a cup of a tea on a rainy day. While it was nice to see this story come to life visually, it did feel choppy at times transitioning from one scene to another. I read the book a while ago so i don’t remember everything, but it felt like we barely scraped the surface getting to know the characters, getting a sense of setting and the little bit of plot present in a cozy fantasy. Overall it was fun for a visual experience, but the novel is definitely a better all round story experience.

Omg I loved this so much!! Legends and Lattes are my favourite cozy fantasy book, and when I saw it was being published as a graphic novel, you know I had to get it! So happy when I saw they had it on Netgalley, and it was just as good as I thought it was gonna be. The art style is so pretty, and can pretty much be summed up as ”cozy”. The colours, brush strokes, so soft and delicate. And the characters where exactly how I pictured them in my head. It was so much fun revisiting this world, and my favourites, Viv, Tandri, Cal and Thimble. Especially Thimble 🐭♥️ Highly recommend to all fans of Legends and Lattes (obviously, and anyone who loves graphic novels, and cozy tales. Fingers crossed the other books will become graphic novels as well!

I was sure I couldn’t love Legends and Lattes more, but this graphic novel proved me wrong! This is a beautiful adaptation of Travis Baldree’s book. Every character looks exactly how I first pictured them. Maybe better. Cal? Love how his character is drawn. And THIMBLE!! Again, I did think this could make the story any better but my goodness, if you want a cute and heart-warming cozy fantasy with DND vibes and wonderful art, this is it. Thank you Ten Speed Graphic for the gifted egalley! I can’t wait to get my grubby hands on a physical copy in December!

This was genuinely so so cute and the whole time I was reading it, I was smiling and my heart was warm.
So, confession, I haven't read Legends & Lattes yet. It's been sitting on my TBR for ages but I never got to it. I always feel like cozy fantasies have to be read in a very specific moment or else you won't feel the whole "cozy experience." But seeing the graphic novel felt like a nice entryway to it and might make me finally take the plunge and read it, so I requested it and I do not regret it at all!
The characters were absolutely lovable. I loved watching Viv's little group slowly grow as more people found their place in the shop. I've gotten so attached to all of them but Thimble was definitely my favorite of the bunch! Every time he was on the page, I found myself grinning. He was just SO CUTE.
I also really loved the heartwarming community aspect of the story. There's something about watching people come together and start loving something another person has poured their heart into, which in this story is the coffee shop that Viv and the whole gang has helped develop and rebuild from the ground up.
The romance was a pleasant surprise too! Considering the short length of the graphic novel, it still built up quite nicely. There were enough little moments where I could see their feelings for each other start to develop, so it never felt like the romance came completely out of nowhere. That said, I would've appreciated more moments where you could really see the romantic tension between them.
And of course, the art!!! It was so so so charming. I loved the use of colors, how everything was so warm and vibrant, and the way the panels were utilized to bring the story to life. Their little expressions were also adorable. The illustrations just added so much personality to the story and made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
This was such a delightful read. I'm really glad I picked this up because now I definitely want to read the original novel as soon as I can. I already love these characters so much and knowing that I'll be able to spend more time with them is something that makes me happy. If you're like me, who has been curious about Legends & Lattes since forever, you should definitely read this!

It’s a cozy, cute and sweet story, I loved the world building the slow build up to the yearning. It is a sapphic romance subplot but the main story had me hooked.
Viv was my favourite, but Tandri was not that far behind with her subtle hints and protectiveness. All the side characters both good and bar are loveable, and I loved how they brought the Cafe together as a team.
Read like a Manga to be honest, not just because it was a graphic novel but how the characters are and the world too.
First half is also perfect as an educational piece on blue-ocean marketing, the bare bones of it at least.
Fair warning if you are reading the ebook ver though, it is designed for print so you may find it hard t read on small devices, I ended up reading it on my laptop, zooming in for most of the dialogue.
Again the art, story and characters I loved, will reread again and look forward to the next one!

This was literal perfection. I read “legends and lattes” when it first came out, but I never continued with the series and the other novels in this world. I was thinking or rereading the first book, but then I saw this was coming out and I’m so glad to have gotten an arc for this. This story is so cozy and heartwarming, while still having a bit of action in the middle. The cast of characters is honestly so lovely and the setting is super cozy. The art style in this was beautiful, honestly amazed at how amazingly this came to life!

I had struggled to get into the original book and was planning on starting it again soon but when i saw that there was a graphic novel version i just knew i had to read it. I think this story is formatted so well for a graphic novel, the characters are so descriptive, the storyline is straightforward but still has twists, and the relationships are so good that you really need to see everything visualized. Such a fun romp, what a good read!!

I hadn’t read the original novel yet (it’s on my TBR, I even have a physical copy on my side table still waiting for me), but I am so glad that I had the opportunity to read the story as a graphic novel instead.
Legends & Lattes is such a cozy story, which is only strengthened by the beautiful graphic style. The graphics really enhanced the story, which is easy enough to follow, as well as the colorful and fun characters. Sometimes you really just need an actual image to imagine certain characters and, in this particular case, the delicious looking pastries. Mere words wouldn’t have done justice to wonderful side characters such as the resourceful and loyal Cal, and the little food genius Thimble, who is a rat of few words but also a rat of many a baking skills, or his delectable little creations.
I highly recommend Legends & Lattes: The Graphic Novel, if you are a fan of cozy fantasy and want an easy enough read, with great graphics and lovable characters.

When I spotted this one on Netgalley, of course I had to request it. I absolutely LOVED the original book and I was curious if the Graphic Novel would also be as awesome. And I can tell you, while I am rating it lower than the OG I had oodles of fun.
There are two reasons why I am rating it a bit lower. In the book the dialogues were OK, but here they just felt a bit much. Secondly, I knew the story so there were no surprises and that always makes things less fun.
Anyways, I still had oodles of fun with this one. Seeing all my favourite characters come alive, see my favourite cafe that I would absolutely love to visit, the food OMG the food, see the shop not in my mind but actually in front of me. Ah, I loved it. The art really brought the story alive. It is the perfect book to make into a graphic novel because of how magical and wonderful it is.
Let’s get to the story, in this one we meet an orc named Viv who leaves her adventuring days to set up a coffee shop/cafe after having some of it on one of her adventures. Which I still love. I mean, she could have just continued on, but she decided to follow another dream. I loved how strong and sweet Viv was. She didn’t just let someone make her dream, she put her shoulders under everything, sometimes even literally as she could carry quite a bit of heavy stuff, and thus made her dreams come true. You just want to root for this girl. In this one we see the cafe bloom, we see new characters getting added to the roster. Like Tandri who has no work experience in food service but is dedicated to help and she does some absolutely amazing things. There is Thimble who bakes all the good foods. We see various customers, at first hesitant, but then becoming regulars. It was just such a delight.
But there are also bad things or drama happening. For instance, Viv didn’t entirely leave her party in the right ways and while most of her party is OK with it one is an asshole. Then there is some kind of, I can only name it this, mob that is making things difficult. At least… for a while. That is all I will say. We see tensions rise, we see dangerous things happen. And well, those who read the book know what will happen. I won’t spoil it, of course, but it was so emotional.
And there is also romance! Yup! Viv and Tandri! Such a cute couple and you are just rooting for them. I just love seeing them together, get closer, some blushes here and there, some very sweet moments, and much more. I just loved seeing the romance bloom and I loved seeing it happen with art to accompany it.
The ending was just such a good one.
And the art. Well, I think I have raved about that enough, but I just want to say this, WOW.
All in all, I would recommend this gorgeous graphic novel to everyone looking for a cosy warm read.

Then there is some kind of, I can only name it this, mob that is making things difficult. At least… for a while. That is all I will say. We see tensions rise, we see dangerous things happen. And well, those who read the book know what will happen. I won’t spoil it, of course, but it was so emotional.
And there is also romance! Yup! Viv and Tandri! Such a cute couple and you are just rooting for them. I just love seeing them together, get closer, some blushes here and there, some very sweet moments, and much more. I just loved seeing the romance bloom and I loved seeing it happen with art to accompany it.
The ending was just such a good one.
And the art. Well, I think I have raved about that enough, but I just want to say this, WOW.
All in all, I would recommend this gorgeous graphic novel to everyone looking for a cosy warm read.

I think I'm one of the last people to join the Legends and Lattes club. I had tried to read the novel when it first came out but dnf'd quite early on. I'm glad that I got to read the graphic novel of it though.
Super cute and charming, this plot revolves around an orc who gives up being a warrior to try her hand at running a coffee shop. There is not much depth to the characters or the plot, but it is a cozy fantasy that is easy to read and might appeal to many people who are looking for something light and fun.

I haven’t read the novel version of legends and lattes because cozy fantasy doesn’t really appeal to me as a genre. However, with that said, I do think the story really worked as a graphic novel. The artwork was amazing and the story was easy to read.
I definitely recommend picking up this graphic novel when it comes out.

I’ve been wanting to read Legends & Lattes for years, but I never got around to it. Or rather, I was never really in the right mood for it. So when I saw there was a graphic novel adaptation, I thought it might be a better fit for me.
While I liked the art style, colors, and character designs, I found the story a bit lacking. Not much really happens, and the transitions between scenes often felt abrupt. I understand that graphic novels handle scene changes differently than prose, where it’s easier to indicate when one scene ends and another begins, but I still found it confusing at times. I would turn the page and suddenly find myself in a completely different scene without much context. I also struggled to connect with the characters because their development felt quite shallow.
Overall, the graphic novel was visually appealing, but it didn’t give me enough time to become invested in either the story or the characters.

This is exactly how this story should have been told in the first place. Legends & Lattes was meant for the graphic novel format!
The art was excellent! One part I struggled within reading the novel is the fact that I have not played/consumed enough d&d to know what characters looked like/stereotypes, some lingo, etc. It was so nice to have this visualization of each character.
I was believe the pacing to be better in this format. The novel was a quick read, but even then some parts dragged (go to place a, then b, then back to a, on and on). In this form the narrative did not linger, forcing the reader to clue into what was going on both in the dialogue and visuals.
This was a lovely reimagining of this book, and I would enjoy seeing the rest of the series translated likewise.
