A huge thank you to the author for the opportunity to ARC read this incredible book!
This story completely pulled me in from the start. The battle scenes were epic, the world-building was immersive, and I absolutely loved that Kaylin’s magic—it added such a unique and powerful element to the story.
And can we talk about the trees and roots-
I shouldn’t have laughed as much as I did, but those scenes were unforgettable. 😂
This world is packed with fascinating creatures and races: elves, dwarves, humans, Sildari, Drulics, terrifying monsters, massive spider-like Grisps, and mysterious drias creatures. Every chapter introduced something new and magical.
If you’re a fan of Lord of the Rings-style epic fantasy with a romantasy twist, this one deserves a spot on your TBR. The adventure feels grand, the stakes are high, and the magic is woven beautifully throughout the story.
Kaylin quickly became a character I couldn’t stop rooting for. Watching her step into her power and embrace her role as a potential savior had me turning pages nonstop. And whatever is happening between Kaylin and Arlen? The romantic tension is definitely building, and I am here for it.
The found family in this book is everything. The friendships feel genuine, and Cadeyrn absolutely stole my heart as the ultimate father figure—the kind, protective, dependable character everyone wishes they had in their corner.

I absolutely loved this story, but let me tell you, the narration by Samantha Norbury and Nick Mondelli was PHENOMENAL!
They truly brought this story to life, and honestly, I think this would make an incredible full immersive audio experience.
The battle scenes were EPIC, the world-building was immersive, and I absolutely loved Kaylin’s magic. It added such a unique and powerful element to the story and made the fantasy world even more captivating.
This one has everything I love: action, war, magic, emotional moments, found family, and just the right amount of romantic tension. The stakes felt high, the adventure felt grand, and I was completely invested in the journey.

The story is filled with vivid world building and amazing epic battles. There’s an emotional romance that brews throughout the book. The elements of found family and the FMC coming into her own are well written and keep you wanting more.
I loved the dual narration of Samantha Norbury and Nick Mondelli, they truly brought this story to life and made it so immersive.

Rich world building that has some Lord of the Rings vibes. There’s an emotional romance that brews along with fierce warrior, and second chance romance.

The pacing was pretty good, but I do think the climax and final battle felt rushed. There was so much build up to the battle between Kaylin and her father that when it came it left me feeling like "that was it?" All her running from her destiny, all the fear, all the secrets, all the training, the heartbreak, the death and then that.
As for the romance aspect, I did not like it. I'm not a giant fan of second chance romance trope in general, so it didn’t really surprise me that I didn't favor it. I also think if the romance were removed entirely it wouldn't impact the story one way or the other. It did feel like the author left some breadcrumbs to lead to fated mates, which is fine, except I think Kaylin deserves better than Arlen.

Arlen made the decision to break up with her, claiming he never loved her, breaking her heart and his justification was to protect her. To me, it felt more like he was scared of his feelings for her so he ran and then he spends the next 2 years very publicly sleeping around. Which, fine, whatever, but he also refuses to allow her to move on, he sleeps with her on a mission because there is only one bed, but makes sure she knows it still means nothing, at celebrations he makes sure to always dance with her, gets upset if anyone else shows an interest in her, before a battle he thinks he may die in he kisses her then when he survives is sure to tell her it changes nothing. When she finally confronts him he confesses his love and she just forgives him, after all of his behavior? Let's just say in book 2 this man better spend a lot of time making it up with some groveling involved.

She was informally adopted by another king and was brought up to be a warrior. She is forced to reveal her identity when her birth father increases his war efforts to find her.
I really wanted to like this book more. It had a lot elements that I like, elves and dwarves, magic, warrior fmc, etc. It just fell short. The writing was kind of forced and cheesy. I also didn't like the mmc. He decided to break her heart in order the protect her but it ended up hurting her more by what he said, sleeping around, and really and nothing changed. The whole trope of I need to hurt her in order to save her just upsets me, especially when the fmc is also a warrior or has her own power. She forgave everyone way too easily. One conversation and it's over. She also kept describing his eyes as orbs. Once, fine, over and over again was too much. I rolled my eyes several times over some of the wording choices. I know that this is her debut novel and I can see some good bones here, this was just not for me.
I would recommend this book to people who: are new to fantasy and looking for an easy toe in, are in the mood for a fast paced read, and fade to black spice.

The FMC also didn't have much growth. She starts as yearning for her ex and finds other suitors lackluster and then instantly forgives her ex when he acts a teensy bit repentant. Admittedly, I am skeptical towards most second-chance narratives, but this was difficult to accept. There were no reparations, just him begrudgingly admitting he still had feelings. Nahhhh.
The ending left much to be desired. It ends like a standalone, all conflict seemingly resolved, and all loose ends tied up. But this is book one, so I am curious to see how the story will continue post-HEA.

This book gave me STRONG Frieren vibes, with the squad of warriors and the constant bickering. If you aren’t familiar with Frieren, I could also heavily see it being based on Lord of the Rings.
The world building is FAST, which is the ONLY reason I knocked a star off. I felt I was constantly wondering “where are we?” & “who is that?” Granted as the story progresses the puzzle pieces fall into place and you know, but for the first 8-10 chapters I was a little lost and having to reread.
The characters and creatures in this book made it so fascinating and keeps you entranced. Just as you think you’ve read about all of the creatures, the fairies or the spiky spiders are knocking on the door.
The found family in this book just melted my heart, Cadeyrn stepping up and being the father that Kaylin needed warmed me. The squad constantly bickering made them seem like siblings in a way which made things so fun to read.
You’ll absolutely love this book if you’re looking for a LOTR romantasy spin, that’s fast-paced and action packed with tons of character development that will have you on the edge of your seat praying for their safety.

I think this book had a lot of potential - it had a lot of great elements - long lost princess, elves, second chance romance, epic battles etc.
However, for me, the writing style and plot didn’t work. I found the pacing was too quick and that consequently moments that should have felt epic or had emotional pay-off, didn’t. The plot felt too simple and repetitive, the world didn’t feel epic in scope, and the romance between the two leads didn’t move me and actually kind of gave me the ick. Arlen’s reasoning for breaking Kaylin’s heart and then sleeping around with a bunch of women and essentially rubbing it in Kaylin’s face all while being a dick to her did not make any sense to me and I was shocked when she accepted him back in the space of a single scene after he confessed he still loved her. Like he broke your heart, lied and slept around? It was not romantic at all and just felt really forced. I guess I am just not as forgiving as Kaylin was.

The world building as as fast paced as Tolkien with zero notes. I cam visualise it throughly and move on without losing interest and wanting to come back.
Conall: the best bestie. He has Kaylin's back in actual fights and bickering between the squad.
Kaylin is a beautifully thought out FMC, she's an angry, stabby girlie that can give as good as she gets. Character Arc and all, her relationship between Arlen and the rest of the squad changes over the book, the dynamic between then all grows and begins to make sense.

First, this has an incredible cover on Kickstarter 💕. That’s what drew me in initially.
But to the story - Kaylin (FMC) , is running from a destiny that is literally poisoning her from the inside out, and Lieutenant Arlen, (MMC) is a fierce elven warrior who shattered her heart years ago. Their second chance romance has a slow burn that flows effortlessly. There’s also political intrigue with power struggles that made this a page turner.
On a side note, I’ll say the story builds fast. There’s a lot in the first few chapters, where I kept getting lost and having to re- read. Def recommend for Lord of the Rings fans 💕

But to the story - Kaylin (FMC) , is running from a destiny that is literally poisoning her from the inside out, and Lieutenant Arlen, (MMC) is a fierce elven warrior who shattered her heart years ago. Their second chance romance has a slow burn that flows effortlessly. There’s also political intrigue with power struggles that made this a page turner.
On a side note, I’ll say the story builds fast. There’s a lot in the first few chapters, where I kept getting lost and having to re- read. Def recommend for Lord of the Rings fans 💕

This book was such a cute and fun fantasy Reed! It had several different types of creatures, including elves, dwarfs fairies, & humans! It had a nice little, romantic plot, intertwined with the main plot of a long lost princess finding her way to become a queen! The characters are well developed, and it feels like you’re actually in the story. I felt the ending was a little bit, rushed and would’ve liked more details and more time with the end battle, the coronation and main character is getting married! I hope there’s an additional book, because I think there could be more stories in this realm! Overall, I really enjoyed this book and seriously could not put it down!

Lord of the Rings-style vibes with magic training.
It took me a couple of chapters to get into this, but it was actually really good. My son absolutely loved the world-building! He wants me to reread about the mountains every night.
Arlen's tenderness with hidden jealousy and Lightning's touch was so genuine with Kaylin. It was so nice watching their story unfold.
It was awesome reading about a badass FMC that can hold her own on the battlefields with swords and arrows.

A great read all around! It’s action-packed and has some great battle scenes throughout. The world-building was very well done, and I found the story immersive! I’m a huge LOTR fan, and can definitely say, if you’re a fan of LOTR and romantasy, you’d definitely enjoy this book!
I liked all the characters, and really loved watching Kaylin learn to not be afraid of her powers and truly harness them. Kaylin and Arlen have quite a history, and you could cut the tension with a knife. When they finally just admitted it to one another, all I could say was FINALLY!

The narrators did an amazing job!!

Shes a warrior and there is a pending war. And only she can save them. Its interesting to see the powers that she develops, the tension between her and Arlen, and the banter between her and her friends and her enemies. I especially loved Arlens mother. This book is giving Lord Of The Rings vibes. It has elfs, dwarfs, humans and other magical creatures. The magic system is so different and interesting. I received this as an ARC read. Firstly thank you to the author for giving me the opportunity to read the book before the release date.
This book is definitely lord of the rings coded but as a romantasy. It’s set during a long running war between two lands where the MMC and FMC are torn between their heritage and where they currently have allegiances.
The writing is very descriptive and the book is written from both the MMC and FMCs pov making for a nice audiobook read too.

When the premise said that it will suit LOTR fans, it delivered!
The war scenes were engaging and my pages were turning, I just had to know what was going to happen.
The world built was exciting and the many creatures and beings were really interesting.
I loved the yearning by the MMC.

First of all… the FMC and I share a name so that was really fun for me! Some things I loved about this book: second chance romance, awesome world building, and a plot that kept me on my toes! It took me a bit to really get into but I’m glad I kept going until I was immersed!! I found myself rooting for her the whole time and just wanted a happy ending sooo badly for her! Perfect fall read ❤️

I loved this story and her writing. The scenes and writing have quickly become a favorite of mine. It has everything I love in a book - magic, action, a little romance. I can't wait to see what happens next.

I enjoyed this book a lot! I liked the divide between magic and combat, and appreciated Kaylin’s struggle with her magical destiny.

This is the best Romantasy of 2026. I luv the story of these 2 characters, the war between them, and their feelings for one another. I Definitely recommend this book if u luv Elves, War, and Love!!
