The Night Killer #2

Before I'm Gone

Rate this book
BEFORE I'M GONE is the pulse-pounding sequel to I SHOULD HAVE TOLD YOU.
Sometimes the secrets of the past should be left buried in the past…
Crime and justice are Detective George Ellis’ business. Murder is his speciality. In his twenty years on the police force, he thinks he’s seen it all: until now. A bloodthirsty murderer has been stalking the streets of Dublin for too long, leaving death and devastation in his wake. His victims are innocent women who find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time.
As the body count rises, Detective Ellis follows every lead: no matter how dark or disturbing. However, there's no apparent connection between the women; they're all strangers with only one thing in common--the killer.
Someone from George’s past holds the key to solving the murders and bringing the serial killer to justice, but little does he know that his private and professional lives are about to collide with horrifying consequences...

Review:  BEFORE I'M GONE by Joanne Clancy (The Night Killer #2)

The much-anticipated sequel to I SHOULD HAVE TOLD YOU (THE NIGHT KILLER #1) is here, and every jot as exciting and adventuresome! The concluding lines of the earlier story left readers hanging on a cliff, as Detective Inspector George Ellis received an earthshaking revelation of his genetic lineage. Now, as he decides how to pursue this news, his marriage is fracturing and his career is unsteady, another don't miss mystery/suspense from prolific Irish author Joanne Clancy.

This is the splendid sequel to I Should Have Told You. That captivating novel left us with the knowledge as to the early life of detective George Ellis. Could it be true what he suspects? Is the notorious serial murderer of women, more commonly known as The Night Killer really his birth-father or is it someone else entirely? George needs to know the truth so he digs deeper and this leads him to another startling revelation. For I was so eager to read this book that when I got my hands on a copy, I put down my other reading material in order to find out the answer and it did not disappoint one bit on the shocking but brilliant big reveal. As I have come to expect with an entertaining read such as this killer thriller. I really relished getting inside the heads of those involved and finding out what makes them tick. Especially when we know that the relationship of George Ellis and his wife Gina is suffering from him being a workaholic who puts so much energy into catching the bad guys that it leaves little room for another person to make an impression on his thoughts. The job comes first but that is how he gets it done and saves lives in the process, even if it suffocates his own marriage in the meantime. Is it a sacrifice, either of them is willing to make? Therefore, changes are bound to occur on the home front because of this distance between the couple so I hope they can find a way back to each other before it is too late. While I cannot wait for the next novel from the talented author Joanne Clancy and long may they keep coming.

"Before I'm Gone" picked up where "I should have told you" left off. DCI Ellis is trying to catch the Night Killer stalking and killing women on Dublin's streets before the monster can strike again. Suddenly personal issues are thrown into the mix and Ellis needs to catch this killer even more. I thought I had it sussed but three quarters of the was through there's a curveball....

Personally I think the two books could be as one as they're both relatively short reads. Saying that they're both enjoyable and well written.

I will be reading more of Joanne's work in the future. I want to see more of DCI George Ellis! Thanks Joanne for asking me to review this duology.

UPDATE APRIL 2016
I read this book in good faith but in recent weeks, it's come to light the author plagiarised her books. I have still read and reviewed this book and I did enjoy it. I plan to read the original version of this book in due course

An exciting adventure with Detective George Ellis and the Night Killer awaits the reader in BEFORE I'M GONE.

Detective Ellis is busily trying to piece together flimsy clues to solve the mystery of the Night Killer. The clues are few and the case is complicated, but Det. Ellis is determined to stop the killings. Then he makes his search personal: He insults the killer on the radio, and the killer promises revenge. Only a man with nerves of steel like Detective Ellis is undaunted and continues his search.

Underlying his career are his personal demons. Abandoned as an infant, Det. Ellis yearns to meet his true parents and learn the circumstances behind his adoption.

This novel has some great twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put this novel down! This is great for any fan of crime fiction or forensics. The author is a talented writer who will keep you guessing until the end!

Before I'm gone is the brilliant sequel to I Should Have Told You. It sees detective George Ellis determined to get to the bottom of who The Night Killer really is. His life and that of his family is torn apart as he delves deeper, uncovering shocking, long-buried truths in the process. I did not predict the ending at all. Joanne's writing style is flawless and clever. I'm looking forward to reading the next book by this talented author. Highly recommended.

Wow Do Not Miss this Sequel!!!

Amazing how talented this Author is. The edge of your seat is exactly what you get. It took me a while to warm up to these character's but once I really got into the story I wasn't ready to come to the end. You will not be disappointed if you are looking for mystery and your mind will get ahead of yourself. I recommend these Joanne Clancy thrillers.

Great wrap up! George gets more than he bargained for when he works The Night Killer case. The case moves quickly and answers all the questions. His wife Gina is interesting, would have liked a little of her story. Must be read after I Should Have Told You.

Enjoyed the twists and turns of Clancy’s writing style. Excellent airplane read...like a longer version of a short story. This is the follow up to “I should have told you” and I won’t tell you what you need to know. Excellent thriller.

I really enjoyed this sequel to "I should have told you" if it had a downside, it is that it ended to quick, but I shall certainly look for books more written by this author. :)

I felt like the book moved incredibly fast and no real details were given. It seemed more like an outline for a book rather than a full book. I liked the story but wish it was better written.
