As a girl, I wrote to survive—to give voice to a sensitivity no one around me understood. Then, for over twenty years, I stopped. I set aside writing, books, that part of myself. But life was wiser than me. The love of my family, my children, taught me that you can always light a candle instead of adding to the darkness.
I started again at fifty, with two very different books: a fantasy saga and a guide for young readers. They both say the same thing: everything we need to get back on our feet is already inside us.
Then came The Silence of Pantelleria. And with it, I truly came home. It's a mystery, yes, but it's also my real Sicily: made of silences, genuine people, and a murder that tears through it all. Writing it, I learned something uncomfortable—absolute justice might not exist. But the duty to seek it? That does exist.
Today I believe that stories heal. Whether I write about magic, inner strength, or hidden truths, it's always the same gesture: to remind whoever is reading that there's always a reason to rise again. Even if, sometimes, you have to go back to the beginning to find it.

Lyra has grown so much since book one. She's no longer just a girl discovering her powers – she's a young woman carrying the weight of impossible choices. The writing remains beautiful and evocative, with descriptions that paint vivid images without ever feeling overdone. And the ending – wow.

So, let's start with the fact that this book was recommended to me because people know that this genre is totally my thing. And I have to say, it didn't disappoint—even though you can tell the author is just starting out.
The first book? I'll admit I was a bit hesitant. The writing was still rough, you could feel the lack of experience. But then I read the second book and WOW, what an improvement! You can tell Cynthia M. has tons of talent and is learning fast.
Lyra's story pulled me in, the setting is fascinating, and the characters have personality. Sure, if you compare it to more experienced authors, you might notice some flaws here and there, but hey, she's a debut author! And you can really feel the passion in what she writes.
So yes, I recommend it. But read it with the right perspective: don't expect a perfect masterpiece, but a story full of heart and potential. Give this new author a chance—I think it's worth it!

Author review. Read twice. The last time just now.
I know. Reviewing your own book is weird. But I reread the second book in the trilogy, the middle one, the hardest and I wanted to be honest with whoever might read this.
Compared to the first, Lyra is different here. More uncertain. More angry. And while rereading, sometimes I wanted to hold her hand, other times I wanted to shake her. Maybe that's what it means to love a character.
The problem is: you can feel it's the middle book. There are chapters I read and thought, "This was just a hallway to get to the next scene." The rhythm gets lost sometimes. Some metaphors about dying stars are the same as in the first book, I only noticed now. And I found two spots where the sentence is so long that even I got lost, and I know how it ends.
But. But there are scenes (chapter 12, no spoilers) that squeezed my heart. And the ending, even knowing it's not a real ending, left me wanting to know what happens next. Which is exactly the same feeling I have while writing the third book.
I'm giving 3 stars because it's not perfect. Because I'm still scared I'm not good enough. Because I never know if what I'm writing is right or wrong. But it's honest. And for now, that's enough.
For those who read the first one: this one is slower. More melancholic. I don't know if you'll like it more or less. I only know that without this book, the third one wouldn't make sense.
