Lost Friday

Rate this book
It's Saturday, September 25th, and the entire town of Sea Beach, New Jersey, has no recollection of what happened to Friday the 24th. Reporter Johnny Pappas is among the baffled residents, as is Chief of Police Roy Mulroney. It's only when Johnny discovers the abduction of high school quarterback David Robelle that the fog over this mystery begins to lift. The evidence leads to the unfathomable conclusion that they've been visited by futuristic time travelers from the International Counter Terrorist Organization, or the ICTO. In the future, time travel becomes a huge geopolitical weapon, enabling those who control the technology to go back in time and manipulate history so that important historical outcomes fall to their favor. The influence extends all the way to the White House. Time travel, human clones called Synthetics, editions of newspapers that haven't even been written yet, it's all part of Lost Friday. Johnny has three objectives: cover the story as a reporter, win the romantic attention of fellow reporter Kelli Remington, and rescue David Robelle from the terrorists. Oh yeah, he'd also like to win a Pulitzer.

Michael Bronte is a graduate of Union College in Schenectady, New York, and George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and lives in Monroe, New Jersey. "All of the heroes in my novels are everyday people," says Bronte. "Any of them could be your next door neighbor. None of us really know what we're capable of until the time comes for us to reach beyond the boundaries of our everyday lives. Remarkable feats of courage are performed everyday, by everyday people. It's amazing."

As a young teenager I remember reading paperback mysteries under a huge oak tree outside my parents’ neighborhood grocery store in Dalton, Massachusetts, a small town located in the heart of the Berkshires. I can recall pulling a book from the rack and getting locked in to those novels as the fragrant summer breeze of Berkshire County tried to turn the page before I was done reading it. I don’t know why, but I was greatly affected by a book titled The Fan Club, by Irving Wallace. When I was done reading it, I can still recall thinking that someday I’d be able to write a book like that on my own; I knew I could do it.

Well, the idea stayed dormant for over thirty years while I did what I thought I should have been doing for a living (looking back, it all seems so trivial sometimes) until I rekindled my infatuation with writing novels. Now, many years after that, and many mistakes and many failures later, there are nine Michael Bronte novels available. They are: The Dealership, Presidential Risk, Porchball, The Tenth Caller, Lost Friday, The Brothers, Call Me Crash, and The Handyman, and Homicide: Party of Twelve

Lost Friday

Lost Friday is a cleverly woven tale of time travel. I am not going to be giving you a blurb because you can easily read it anywhere. What I will say, is that this is one hell of a book and if you are missing out on it, you are missing out on a lot. This is the second book of the author that I’ve read and it was a striking contrast to the first one.

The basic plot of the book was cleverly woven. The story was really fast paced and it felt as if the main characters were always on the go. The book begins with a bang and it is a little confusing at first but you soon get the hang of it. There were some instances in the story that were a little heavy but as the story progresses, I found what these instances amounted up to and then, there came a point when I didn't really wish to put the book down..

The major theme of the book was a little complex with the time travel concept being woven into a generic thriller novel. The way the story has been threaded offers a really fresh and interesting perspective on thriller as a genre. The action sequences were par level and the words of the author painted a very vivid picture of all the scenes in there. The subtle punches of humor kept the spice in the book.

The author also introduced a lot of different characters in the book which could be confusing for some readers. In fact, if I am being truly honest, the number of characters being introduced all at once, is the only complaint I have about this book.

The world building was commendable. The scenes were penned with such prowess that even the constant switching of the scenes from the past to the present was not really confusing for the reader. The language of the author was reader friendly and easily comprehensive. The book, in its entire course, kept me bouncing on the edge of my seat anticipating what might happen next.

Further, the story had a very strong narration and the characters kept building and developing throughout the course of the book. However, I would like to issue a fair warning that this is not an easy read. You have to be INTO the book in order to understand it well.

I would recommend this book to all the people who wish to read a thriller that is engaging and messes with the screws of their brain.

This is an intriguing and entertaining read. It gets a bit complicated because it bounces back and forth between the future and now. I loved the characters and the plot, lots of action and plenty of witty humour. Science fiction fans will love this especially, but any fantasy fan who likes to stretch his or her imagination will love it too. Recommended read.

I thought that this overall was a pretty good read. The pace was good although I felt the story bogged down a little in the middle. The time travel plot was intriguing as was the envisaged future world.

9/30/2194-10/3/2194, Jersey Shore. David Robelle (son, QB) was abducted but by whom?
Princeton & MIT both wanted him as soon as he graduated HS.
Scott Reemer (science teacher) & Allison Kovar (math teacher) from Southern Shore Regional HS also came up missing.

Chuck Robelle (40+, husband/father, lawyer) & Jenna Robelle (Wife/mother, associate professor) were both frantic about their whereabouts of their son.
Johnny Pappas (reporter, Asbury Park Press) & the Chief of Police Roy Mulroney (Sea Beach P/D) are also totally clueless to the whereabouts of those PPL.

What was going on between the Red Diamond (terrorist group) & the International Counter Terrorist Organization (ICTO)?

What are Vishal Rawan (ICTO) & Aryeh Caleb (Mossad agent) involved in?
Will David be found?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great time travel movie, animated cartoon or mini TV series. This book made sense, quite humorous at times & bizarre. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

I'd like to start off this review by thanking the author, Michael Bronte, for sending me this out-of-the-world amazing book! I loved this book more than words could express. Now... back to the review!

I recommend this book for anyone and everyone who likes mysteries and time-traveling. You really have to think on your feet while reading this book and put the pieces together. It might get confusing, but that's what makes the book so great because it challenges us readers to think outside of the box to figure out what is happening.

What I liked most of this book was the unique idea. The title itself is quite captivating, "Lost Friday." It was so strange when I first read the book and the guy literally thought it was Friday the whole time. I thought maybe he did drugs or something and felt like it was yesterday but then as you keep reading and see that other people realize the same thing and the clocks confirm it, it's so mind-boggling! Soon, you'll be addicted, captivated, and scratching your head for answers. It's also very fast-paced so you won't' get bored.

I also liked how realistic this book was. It starts off like a normal day and then it becomes more unique. The best part of this book is the strange atmosphere of Deja Vu. I've felt like it was Friday on a Thursday and vice versa and I felt very weird when I learned otherwise, so it makes me feel like this book is onto something! LOL! The writing style of this book was perfect too. It flowed smoothly and there were no awkward transitions. Definitely pick up this book and give it a try, I can definitely see it being translated into a movie quite soon!

Great book. The time travel parts got a bit confusing for me, but I had to keep reading to find out how it turned out. Overall, the characters and scenes were very believable, especially because I lived in New Jersey for several years and I could see the scenes in my head as I was reading. I highly recommend this book to anyone who like action/adventure type stories.

I had to push myelf to complete this book. Too many characters introduced in the beginning. It becomes difficult to keep track of who is who. I had to go back many times. Finaly, I gave up searching people. The story is good but it could have been made slightly less complex. The events were rushed.
I give this book two stars just for the plot.

I was really liking the first few pages. Loved the mystery but the language got rough and so I put it down. If the author ever decides to write a book without using a whole lot of foul language let me know. However, for those out there who do not mind bad language, this looks like a good sci-fi mystery.
