Lakeland Bears #2

Out of Myself

Rate this book
Jordan Carmichael is the star left wingman of the Lakeland Bears, or so she thought. After winning the Frozen Four, the last thing she expects is for her hockey team to be disbanded—excused as budget cuts and money reallocated to the men’s team—before the new semester even begins…or a run-in with her ex-boyfriend that leaves her determined to prove everyone wrong.

But to make the team, Jordan needs two things: to keep it a secret and help improving her game.

Enter Jaxon Greene—the all smiles, flirty right wingman. He’s the life of the party, thrives on making everyone laugh, and has the reputation of never taking anything seriously. At least that’s what he lets everyone believe.

With an NHL contract on the line and financial security for his family, Jaxon’s desperate for a change. Helping train Jordan might be exactly what he needs.

The only problem? She’s his best friend’s ice-cold little sister who can’t stand him.

As they spend time together, their on-ice training turns into an undeniable off-ice chemistry,

Jaxon begins to understand the fire fueling her ambition and need to prove herself, realizing that, like him, there’s a version of herself she’s hiding beneath the surface. And to get what they both want, they might need to get out of themselves.
OUT OF MYSELF is a brother's best friend x college hockey romance. Great for fans of The D.C. Stars, Off Campus, and She's The Man.

This book reminded me why I love sports romances so much.

The brother’s best friend trope may have pulled me in, but Jordan and Jaxon’s story had so much more to offer. Jordan’s determination to keep chasing the sport she loves after her women’s team is cut gave the story real heart, and I appreciated how it highlighted the challenges women in sports continue to face while remaining hopeful and uplifting.

Jaxon was easily one of my favorite parts of the book. His quiet acts of service, constant encouragement, and the way he always respected Jordan’s boundaries made their relationship feel incredibly genuine. They both carried their own insecurities, but together they found the confidence and support they needed. Their chemistry, banter, found family, and emotional connection made them impossible not to root for.

This may not have been a perfect read for me, but it came incredibly close. It was heartfelt, funny, romantic, and filled with characters I genuinely cared about.

This was such a satisfying read, and I’m glad I picked it up.

Thank you to Hannah Hamrick and House of Hearts for the gifted copy — all opinions are my own!

I always love a good ‘brothers best friend’ or ‘best friends little sister’ trope. Both apply, as we’re reading through both Jaxon and Jordan’s POV. I had no doubt I was going to love this book, as I did love ‘me about you’ as well. Hannah has this way with words that makes you want to read more and more. I’m so sad it’s over and we have to wait for another book🙈

Jaxon is such a gentlemen. Every time he wants to help Jordan and needs to touch her, he asks: “Can I touch you?” And I know that it’s the bare minimum, but it’s still nice to read it.

This fuck it moment was even better than the one in ‘me about you’. Oh my god! Fuck it moments are always amazing, and I always get so excited to read them!

Jaxon is so cute. Learning how to braid for her. But that plot twist, about Jordan’s ex, oh my god! I’m not going to spoiler The Who’s and what’s, but I saw it coming at the first hint and when it was revealed, I wasn’t able to keep quiet. That is so well thought off and such a plot twist that it feels unbelievable, but yet it is the truth. They’ve learned things from and for each other. They’re perfect for each other. Filling each other where the other needs it most.

I didn’t think it was possible for the book to be better than the first. But, boy, was I wrong. I enjoyed reading this so much and I’m so grateful to have received this arc!

I always write my reviews during reading the book. So I wrote about a character I’d love to see the next book being about. Upon reading the acknowledgments,I literally gasped and yelled “ohh yes!!” To read that it’s exactly the character I was praying it to be!!😱🥰

Jordan + Jaxon

Out of Myself is a SLOOOOOOW burn so be prepared to be patient. Jordan and Jaxon become friends because she needs his help. He also just happens to be her brother's best friend.. hello, one of my favorite tropes.

Jaxon is sweet, kind, and loves to get consent before touching. Jordan is just trying to get on the hockey team, avoid her situationship with Luka (which turns into him just being a butt), and then Jaxon. Mr. Green flag. & the fact that her brother doesn't want them to date just makes this arrangement even better. Just casual, no feelings (yeah, right).

& the plot twist.. hehe, saw THAT coming..

"I've never looked at you and wished you were someone else." (SWOON)

I really enjoyed this book. Looking forward to the next one in the series.

I received this book and am voluntarily reviewing.

ARC Review
Out of Myself by Hannah Hamrick
4.75⭐️

Not only is this book all about girl power and believing in yourself despite the outside (and sometimes inside) noise telling you you’re not capable, it also shows the struggle of women’s sports compared to men’s sports as a whole due to lack of funding and profitability. When funds are depleted, women’s sports and the arts are always the first to be cut. No matter if the women’s teams are more successful than the men’s, women’s sports are known to be less popular, less marketed, and bring less profits, so they’re cut first. Because her team gets cut, Jordan tries out and gets selected to join the men’s team. Her talent is then deemed a joke to the outside world which then makes her question her capability. Despite it all, and with the help of Jaxon, she puts her mind to improving and shows the world what she’s capable of.

I loved how raw and supportive Jordan and Jaxon are to each other. They’re able to tear down their walls and be their true authentic selves together, even though it’s scary. Both characters were written beautifully and showed great growth. I especially loved the relationship that Jaxon and his roommates shared and how they immediately welcomed Jordan in the group.

This book was funny, hot, inspirational, heartbreaking, heartwarming, and filled with banter that you’ll adore. I have a feeling that a lot of readers will relate to Jordan and Jaxon and it will help anyone who is struggling to believe in their self worth.

Hannah's expanding on the Lakeland Bears universe is everything I could've wanted!
Great writing, amazing hockey family, and a plot that kept getting better (this was closer to 4.5)

We have to start with Jordan for this one. The absolute sweetest girl who just got the short end of the stick when it came to girls she wanted to form friendships with, that kind of thing will make you have tougher skin, giving off the "ice princess" vibe. I could see it, and absolutely agree that that kind of thing will make you closed off. But on the inside, this girl will love with her whole heart; I love how much she'll fight for what she wants, and her crushing on Jaxon was just really cute. I love how important her hair was to her, very representative of her feelings! Life experiences will make you that 'black cat' character, including stupid exes who need to never see the light of day again.

And Jaxon, my golden retriever, sunshine boy!!!! The transition from a flirt to only looking at one woman at like 10% of the book was perfect! There was only one for him, and any one else did not live up to her. He cares so deeply for his family, ever evident in his actions for his dad, and I was so sorry that people in his life still could not see how wonderful he was.

The romance between Jordan and Jaxon was somewhat of a slow burn, if you ignore the spice, lots of buildup to actually getting together which was fun, even if you know they're meant to be. The spice was perfectly spicy, and very on character for these two. She needed to learn to be loved, and he was ready to love her.

On a last note, more men in crop tops caring for their lady's hair PLEASE.

I read Me About You earlier this year after coming across the cover on KU, and I instantly fell in love with it. I couldn’t stop thinking about Jordan and Jaxon, so I was so excited to finally get their story.

This book starts with Jordan finding out that the women’s hockey program at her university is being cut. Hockey is her first love, so she’s devastated and willing to do whatever it takes to keep playing. When her friends encourage her to try out for the men’s team, Jaxon steps in with a plan to help her. Over the next few weeks, he trains her, makes meal plans, writes affirmations, and creates playlists to keep her motivated. Through this process they grew closer together and realize that they might have been hiding the same feelings for each other all along.

I really loved Jordan. She was such a badass, and even when things got hard, she kept pushing forward to prove everyone wrong. It was hard seeing how much she struggled with feeling like she didn’t belong, which made her growth even more special.

Jaxon was the ultimate acts of service king. The way he showed up for Jordan, both in the little things and the big things, was so sweet. It hurt seeing him struggle with feeling unlovable, but I loved watching him find reassurance and love through Jordan.

Together, they just worked so well. They both needed reassurance in different ways, and I loved how they were able to give that to each other. Their relationship felt supportive, vulnerable, and genuine, which made their story so easy to root for. I do wish they had told Cooper sooner because I would’ve loved more of them as a public couple.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one and I’m so grateful to have received an eARC. I’ll definitely be continuing this series, and I’m really hoping Beck’s book is next.

Thanks to Hannah Hamrick and House of Hearts for the gifted copy — all opinions are my own.

This book was so amazing jaxon and jordan you really made me work for this book because of the emotional rollercoaster that they have both been through.

Jaxon is the college hockey player who gives off golden retriever vibes hes the happy go lucky kinda of person but deep down this all the a act. Because hes got his own issues that he thinks if he doesn't put on a smile or act goofy nobody will want to be his friend.

Jordan was on the women's hockey team and when budget cuts happen she decides to go put for the men's team. Shes also been through alot in her life struggling to make friends. She gives off black cat energy because of things that have happened in her life especially with fake friends.

When jaxson finds out about the women's team being cut he decides to start helping jordan train and get better for the try outs she can make it to the men's team. The more they hang out the more there feelings for each other grow

This book has really opened my eyes up to it doesnt matter what happens on the outside you never know what someone is going through.

Jordan and jaxson start of as friends with benefits but slowly grow into more but Jordans scared to open up not only because jaxson is her brothers best friend but because of the walls shes built up to keep people out.

Id rate the spice in this book 🌶 🌶🌶 out of 5 id say its kinda a slow burn theres lots of foreplay that eventually grows into more and some of this sense was written fantastic.

I cant wait for the next book

Out of myself, by Hannah Hamrick, is a hockey romance in which both Jordan (FMC) and Jaxon (MMC) are hockey players in their resp. teams at uni.

Jordan is a rather introvert, non-nonsense type of girl who has been hurt to many times by being ghosted by so-called friends. With an exception in Xadie, her bf and roommate, she hangs out a lot with her brothers team/friends/housemates. As of their first meeting, she liked her brother bf Jaxon, but being one of the most popular, handsome flings on campus, she never thought she would caugth his eye in that way.

However, Jaxon always noticed her, and had more than just friendly feelings. When the university cuts the womens team, he is the one helping her get ready for the open try-outs for the mens team. After her ex's mean, nasty comments on the matter of womens teams being less than mans, she is determined to show him otherwise.

Both mains have a well founded backstory, and I loved that Jordan features a non-typical romcom girlie. The story itself has a good premise, though I felt the pace was very slow, making it lose some of its sparks. It took quite a while for me to get into the story, and took me a while to connect with the characters and up till the end I felt everything developed rather slowly. The story had more potential, and the ending felt not realistic to me leaving a bit of a weird aftertaste. The book was good, but just not my fav of the genre.

First of all… I am absolutely in love with this series! I think this may have been my first book by this author, and if that’s the case, what an incredible introduction. Holy crap, I was hooked from the very beginning! This series has completely won me over, and I already know I’ll be reading everything else I can get my hands on.

Secondly, Jordan is such an amazing FMC. I absolutely loved her. She’s tough, fearless, and more than capable of taking care of herself. I always love a strong female lead, and Jordan is exactly that. She isn’t afraid to stand her ground, fight for what she believes in, or protect the people she loves. She’s a total badass, but she also has moments of vulnerability that make her feel real and relatable. I found myself rooting for her every step of the way.

And then there’s Jaxon.

I absolutely loved him. The chemistry between him and Jordan was incredible from the moment they shared the page. Their banter, the tension, the emotional moments—it all felt so natural. They challenged each other, supported one another, and their relationship developed in a way that had me completely invested. Every scene they shared had me wanting just one more chapter.

What really stood out to me was the pacing. This book grabbed me from page one and never let go. There wasn’t a single point where I wanted to put it down because there was always something happening that kept me engaged. The action, the romance, the emotions, and the suspense all blended together so well that I flew through the pages.

The characters were incredibly well written, the story kept me hooked, and the emotional moments landed exactly where they were supposed to. By the time I reached the end, I wasn’t ready to say goodbye.

This series has officially made me a fan of this author, and I can’t wait to continue reading more. If the rest of the books are anything like this one, I know I’m in for an amazing ride.

This was the first book I have read of Hannah’s and it was so good! I loved the story line that came with this book. Jordan and Jaxon are so cute once they finally give into each other. I absolutely loved the Banter/Flirting that they both did with each other. It was so very clear they both had mutual crushes on each other!

Jordan is such a strong character. So much is thrown at her in life and she really just does not give up. She has a hard time coming out of her shell and being the girl she once used to be before her friend passed away. But I absolutely loved watching Jaxon help slowly bring her back to the girl she always was. He truly helps bring out the best in her and I absolutely loved watching her flourish!

Jaxon is the guy who brings the energy and the party. He can lighten a room in two seconds. But deep down he really is carrying a lot himself but he will always take care of everyone else before himself. He wants everyone to be infected by his fun personality even if he isn’t having a good day. He truly is the best guy and I loved watching him slowly heal as well!

Hannah Hamrick had me once she announced the book tropes.
I absolutely loved Jaxon’s and Jordan’s.
But their POVs were my favs.
This is my first ever read by Hannah Hamrick and she’s got me SOLD.

Since the first chapter I was hooked.

Jaxon was such a college hockey golden retriever for an MMC. This man stole my heart.
Learning to braid hair. And just wanting to protect and support Jordan.

Jordan was such a tough strong fearless hockey FMC.
She was my fav. Just how much she cares and protects the ones she loves. Specially when it came to taking care of herself. To me that made her such a badass.

Jaxon’s and Jordan’s tension, banter, chemistry, flirting had me on the floor. It was just soooo GOOD.
The way they both challenge and supported each other had me swoon.

I hated Jordan’s ex.
I hated how he made Jordan feel after they cut the women’s hockey team.

I cannot wait to read more by Hannah Hamrick.
Thank you soo much House of Hearts Lit and Hannah Hamrick for this ARC opportunity💙🏒

Out of Myself was such a cute, sweet read, and I enjoyed it overall. Jordan and Jaxon are complete opposites, the grump to his sunshine, but they truly bring out the best in each other. They both struggle with their own insecurities and have built walls around themselves to protect against further disappointment. I thought the author did a great job exploring those vulnerabilities and portraying their emotional growth throughout the story.

One of my favorite aspects of the book was Jaxon's unwavering support for Jordan. He constantly made her feel comfortable, seen, and appreciated, not just as a woman, but as an equal and valued teammate. Their relationship felt genuinely supportive, which made it easy to root for them.

The writing was easy to get into, and the story was sweet and heartwarming, with a great cast of supportive side characters. While I definitely saw a lot of potential, I did feel the pacing was a bit inconsistent at times, which kept the story from fully reaching its emotional impact for me.

Overall, it was an enjoyable romance with lovable characters and plenty of heart.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
OUT NOW!!🏒

౨ৎ˚₊ “You asked for me to take you with me, even if it’s within myself, but Jaxon, that’s impossible because you take me out of myself.”౨ৎ˚₊ 🩵
-Jordan Carmichael

I want to start this review thanking @ for this amazing ARC; the way that these characters, especially Jordan , have carved a place into my heart needs to be studied on the most prestigious medical programs of the world. I even created a whole list of the things that I loved about this book.

This book is the second on the Lakeland Bears series, and just like the first one, it didn’t disappoint.

This books was a very VERY slow burn, one that tastes your patience due to the amount of yearning that’s involved. Both of the characters, Jordan (our FMC) and Jaxon (or MMC) have the ability to not only make you giggle and kick your feet but also they make you shatter a few tears.

Their story it’s the perfect example of Golden Retriever X Black Cat. They don’t only appreciate each other but they respect and support one another. Jaxon’s understood and respected Jordan’s boundaries and emotions, but not leaving his own behind was one of the best things that this book did.

As someone that constantly is doubtful of herself and can be categorized as cold or reserved, Jordan’s story made me feel seen and understood. Because she’s the perfect example that we are not cold, but we just learn to build up walls that not everyone is willing to learn to respect or find a way to get through the other side without hurting us or themselves.

Again thank you so much Ms. Hamrick for creating such an amazing characters and story that not only made me feel seen but also made feel understood. And lastly thank you House of Hearts for the gifted copy.

I was so grateful to have received an ARC of this book!

*Out of Myself* by Hannah Hamrick was such an enjoyable read. I absolutely loved the dynamic between the main couple—their relationship felt genuine, supportive, and full of chemistry from beginning to end. One of my favorite things was that there was no unnecessary third-act breakup. Instead, the story focused on communication, growth, and watching them work through challenges together.

I also loved the little glimpses of both what may be coming next and updates on the couple from Book 1. Those moments added so much depth to the series and made the world feel connected.

The found family aspect of the hockey team was another highlight. The camaraderie, support, and sense of belonging among the team members made every scene with them even more enjoyable. I especially appreciated how the heroine was empowered to pursue her goal of trying out for the men's team, and how the hero supported her every step of the way. His acts of service and dedication to helping her achieve her dream were some of the sweetest moments in the book.

A heartwarming sports romance with a fantastic couple, strong found-family vibes, and a supportive partnership that had me rooting for them the entire time.

This book was such an enjoyable read for me. It is full to the brim with so many things that I love. We get brother's best friend and sports romance - two of my favorites to read about. Jordan and Jaxon are amazing together. They complement each other perfectly. But they also mirror each other in some of the best ways. They are opposites and the same. The chemistry between them was heated and intense. The banter was on point. And the support they give each other was so endearing. Jaxon truly saw Jordan. And helped her however he could. And she couldn’t help but care for him too. Their relationship was sweet and genuine and real, and then we get to add heated and tension filled. It makes for an amazing story. The screw it moment had me squealing like a little girl and fanning my face. But it’s Jaxon’s sweet and caring and gentlemanly behavior that truly won me over for him. He supports. He cares. And he will do everything he can for the people in his life. And Jordan fills him up just as much. They are truly wonderful for and to each other. And the ending to this story was absolutely beautiful. It’s exactly what I wanted for them and everything they deserved.

I really enjoyed this hockey romance book. Jaxon and Jordan were easy to love from the start. Jordan’s determination to prove her stinky ex and the Athletic Director wrong was admirable. I loved how Jaxon supported her efforts even before any sort of relationship started between them. He made her a training program and playlists! How sweet!

The romance in this book was a lot of push and pull. Jaxon and Jordan each had to bring down their walls and the masks they wore. I found it interesting how they both hid their true feelings behind opposite masks. Jaxon was the fun time player and Jordan was the closed off introvert. The way they both grew to be truthful about what they wanted was beautiful to see. I loved how they both found their safe harbor in each other.

This book was a great read. I highly recommend this book to romance readers who are looking for an emotion forward love story. Not to mention the thoughtful amounts of care Jaxon and Jordan took with each other! It was swoony the entire time!

Out Of Myself Review ⛸️🏒

I received an ARC for this book, so I want to thank House of Hearts and Hannah Hamrick for sending me this.

In this book we have a classic with Jordan and Jaxon, a good brother’s best friend and these two did not disappoint.

Jaxon is the funny guy of the team, he is the one making sure everyone has a good laugh, that everyone is having a good time.

Jordan is badass girl, after the girls hockey team is cut out of the university, she decides she is going to try and make the boys team, and the person who helps her? Jaxon.

What started as a friendly deal, soon enough became more for both of them. Their situation is messy, Jaxon is Cooper best friend, Jordan has a terrible ex boyfriend, they try to deny their feelings, but they are just too strong.

I have to say, Jaxon is my favorite character of this group, I love the relationship he has with his dad and grandma, I love how he takes care of Jordan, and I love how caring he is.

Jordan is also one of the best, she start to learn sing language to talk with Jaxon’s dad, she is a good friend, a good sister and know what she wants.

I definitely enjoyed this book and will give it a 5 ⭐️ review. ⛸️🏒

Thank you Hannah Hamrick and House of Hearts for the gifted copy!

I feel so blessed for receiving this ARC, genuinely I fell in love with this book.

The build up was incredible for the ending, the storyline and the characters were written well for how it was meant to end. I wish I could write about it all but I don’t want to give out any spoilers for any of it!

When I first read the dedication, I was extremely curious about Jordan and who she was meant to be. But after reading the book, I came to realisation I related more to her than I thought I would. She’s one of those characters that I want to cherish for as long as I can.

Her personality was well portrayed for someone (me) who acts the same way and all the wishes to change yourself to fit in the world. The comment her ex, Luka made about her and being cold… yeah that hit close to home. So I knew exactly what Jordan was feeling.

Jaxon, however, is my boy I want to protect at all costs. He deserves the world and more.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story and I can’t wait for more.

One thing about me is that I'll eat up a hockey romance every single time. Add in the tropes of forced proximity and she fell first, but he fell harder and, yeahhhhhh I'm SAT. I absolutely loved this book! I stayed up until 2am reading it because I was hooked and couldn't put it down. Jordan is such a strong, beautiful, and relatable character. She's gone through so much and watching her grow throughout the book was everything and more. And don't even get me started on Jaxon. Another book boyfriend added to the list. He was the perfect balance of funny and serious. Together they were able to be themselves and share secrets that they were too scared to say aloud. One of my favorite things about this series is the found family. They all love each other so deeply, and you can tell how much thought and care was put into writing these characters. 4.5 Stars

I love when an author can make the evolution of a relationship between the two main characters feel so effortless. This is my third Hannah Hamrick book and she just has a way of making you believe every feeling these characters feel and you can’t help but root for them the whole time.

Jaxon is down bad for Jordan and I love it. I love his chapters where we got inside of his head and are able to see Jordan from his perspective. This man is going to climb to the top of everyone’s book boyfriend charts.

I love how Jordan slowly allowed herself to let Jaxon in and champion her and be her friend and be her person. I loved seeing such a strong female main character rise because the people around her helped build her up. She could’ve easily done it all on her own, but having that support system just heightens the whole thing.

I am hooked on this series and I’m so excited for the next book, especially from the tidbits that we got from potential main characters!

I LOVED Jordan and Jaxon!

Jaxon is going to be everyone’s new book boyfriend! He was your typical hot and goofy hockey player. However he was also incredibly smart and had another side to him not many others got to see. He took care of his dad and loved to teach.

Jordan is a strong FMC who just wants to play hockey and is disappointed that her team was cut from the schools budget. She decides to try out for the men’s hockey team instead of just joining the figure skating team. She proves that women can play with the men and be just as good or better than them.

I loved how naturally Jordan and Jaxon’s relationship progressed. Jaxon had it bad for Jordan and the yearning? Yes! These two had all of the chemistry and were so good together!

I loved this friend group and all of the strong relationships between all of them! I can’t wait to see whose story is next!

Thank you so much for this early copy!

The Lakeland Bears: Jaxon and Jordan

The dedication was to those relating to unlikable MFC’s, so I knew I was going to be in trouble

This tackled some interesting and tough topics…
After the women’s hockey team is cut due to ‘budget issues’, Jordan has a choice.
Try out for the men’s team or go back to figure skating…
With the help of her brother’s BFF, she makes the team, but her world falls apart.

He’s a sweetie, but I was getting confused… they became FWB and it was clear that feelings were getting involved, yet neither were ready to step out of the shadows…

A misogynist ex, snaky ex-teammates/friends, and a brother who puts it off-limits…. Everything just kept getting in Jordan’s way… A couple of twists that I did not expect at all, and the drama was high!

I really enjoyed this, some tougher topics managed pretty well, and a sweet relationship made this a winner.

5⭐️/3🌶️

Jaxon and Jordan…. Man, the two of them. Match made in heaven. Their jagged edges fit together in the most natural way. They support, they love, they’re there for each other in a way no one else is. The definition of each others’ homes.

The external factors in their story really make it for me - I love the tension and frustration we get from Jordan’s plight as a female hockey player with no team who decides to try out for the mens team (while being the baby sister of the team captain, to boot), and Jaxon supporting her through training, try outs, and playing. He’s the ultimate hype man. And the dichotomy of Jaxon’s family dynamic to Jordan’s is so good (though truly, his family can disappear now, thanks).

Genuinely, the Lakeland Bears series belongs on your immediate TBR. These stories are beautifully written, complex, poignant, and right up there with your favs.

ARC REVIEW- All opinions are my own

Tropes:
~ Brothers Best Friend
~ Hockey player X Hockey Player 🏒
~ Golden Retriever X Black Cat 🐈‍⬛
~ She Falls First He Falls Harder ❤️
~ Forced Proximity
~ College Romance
~ Spice 🔥
~ * He Braids Her Hair*
~ He Wears Her Jersey

Obsessed doesn't even begin to cover it! This book was so much fun to read. absolutely loved vordan and axon's connection over hockey. Jordan may have blue hair but she's got a fiery personality and not to mention extremely resilient. Jaxon had so many cute little habits and quirks that were really endearing. I appreciate when characters feel fleshed out, we aren't just getting the happy good sides of them, but seeing their struggles too. This really helps contribute to the are of the story and getting to see character growth. I can't wait for book 3!

Almost dnf, but glad i stayed for the whole ride

I honestly thought 30 pages into this book I was going to DNF it.... but I'm so glad I didn't because this story was so good. I love the different representations that are present within this novel. I was kind of put off by Jaxson in the beginning, and he was the main reason I was gonna dnf the story, but something about it kept me reeled in and his character won me over. And I love ur female main character! She is so relatable in the sense of how she feels, how she presents herself, and her most inner thoughts. I also liked the family dynamics, they were also very real and not outlandish. And again- the representation with learning disabilities, as well as deafness and, just sooo much was present in this book, and done so beautifully well I am looking forward to reading other things by Hamrick.

Thanks to Hannah Hamrick and House of Hearts for the gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.

Another great book from Hannah Hamrick. I think i enjoyed this a bit more than Cooper and Suttons book tbh. There are LAYERS here and Hannah does a wonderful job of slowly revealing all the ways Jaxon and Jordan float around each other.

I would say this slow burn is right on pace. Its not overly slow but we dont dive right into the romance either. I loved the emotional depth behind both main characters and getting to see them grow.

As someone who grew up and memorized every line of She's The Man, this scratched that itch a bit. I expected a bit more of an undercover situation but tbh im glad Jordan was recognized as being a badass in her own right.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good hockey or brothers best friend romance.

I really enjoyed reading about Jordan (maybe because I’m also like Jordan) and her struggles finding her people or feeling like people are only around because of who I know. I wish we had explored a little more about Jordan’s relationship with Xanie but I love a bestie who supports all decisions regardless of logic. Jordan is fierce and strong but she just wants to let that go for a little bit and Jaxon…boy does he step up quick.

But Jaxon! UGH OUR GO HAPPY BOY IS ACTUALLY A LITTLE BROKEN. I wasn’t sure about him initially but he really stole me away. And it feels good to have him seen not just for being funny but for all of him. Jordan is his person.

I genuinely enjoyed reading this and wished I had more time to read it consistently because it was great but life happens. Give it a try if you like college sports romance.

Also thank you so much for the ARC!
