One drunken night, Shoshanna Clarke let her inhibitions go and said yes to Toby Mason. Sleeping with the town bad boy ends up completely changing her life.
Toby finally got the girl he wanted, despite the fact she doesn’t know it yet. She’s a good girl, and Toby is known for being a bad boy. But before Toby can tell Shoshanna he wants her for more than that one night, he has to leave town due to his father’s death.
When Shoshanna finds out she is pregnant, she has no way to tell Toby he’s the father. It isn’t until Toby’s return that she must finally face reality and tell him everything.
Can Toby put his bad boy ways behind him and give Shoshanna and his baby what they both deserve?
H knows h all his life but he's never noticed her in high school and had a steady GF from ninth grade. In the last year of HS he makes a move on h( while still not breaking off with head cheerleader GF) but she is scared of his reputation and runs. H pines for h for next 5 yrs - he does it in style actively manwhoring his way across the town and never once making a move on h(!!) h predictably dated 1 guy and it was not memorable.
So after they have a ONS, H thinks this:
and I just couldn't take being in H's POV anymore!! Bcos h was chubby and didn't have much confidence, she kept doubting H would want her or stay with her, the contrast in POVs was painful. Maybe I'm too silly but this was not for me.
We start off seeing how things were for Toby and Shoshanna in high school. Their interactions, feelings, and the pressures they were under. Then we jump ahead to 5 years later. They both still have never quit thinking about the other and wishing things were different.
Thank God for liquid courage. It helps Toby to finally go after Shoshanna, and drops her guard enough to yes. After the most amazing night of both of their lives. Toby gets shocking news that takes him away for weeks. But he misses Shoshanna and can't wait to get back home to her.
When Toby finally comes for Shoshanna she has a surprise for him!
I liked this novella. I like Toby and Shoshanna. They were very real and relatable as they coped and dealt with their feelings, insecurities and their pasts. They were vulnerable and open with each other and worked hard to get their HEA.
Even though this is an ARC review, I will always shoot you straight. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I found this book rather boring. I kept waiting on something happen. These two have known each other their whole lives but never really interacted - they traveled in different circles. Their only interaction during high school was three small conversations over a 12 hr period that went something like this:
1 - Hey, we're in X class together right? No, we're in X class
2 - Hey, there's a party tonight and I want you to come That's not really my scene, I don't fit in there Well, I want to you come
3 - You came? Yeah, but I don't belong here You're better than all of this Ok, I'm leaving
Thats it...after that they both went their separate ways and didn't interact again for 5 years soooo I'm not really concerned that he man-whore'd it up during that time. They weren't together in any way. They each thought the other was cute but really never acted on it so I don't expect them to stay celibate.
So, 5 years later they meet at a bar, go back to his place, and have some wide monkey sex - sans the condom. The next morning he gets the call that his father died. As expected he leaves to go help his mother. He ends up staying with his mom about 5 weeks. During that time there was no communication - she thought he only wanted her for a ONS and he wanted to see her again BUT was stuck helping his mom...not the best excuse but ok I'll go with it.
Once he returns to town he calls her and sets up their first date. However, during that time she has found out she's pregnant. They go on the date, she tells him she's pregnant, he's excited, they start a relationship.
Thats it...no real drama. He wanted her and while sweet he wasn't the alpha man I was looking for at all - dirty talker in bed? Hell yeah...alpha...nope. She was very laid back and just went with the flow.
I didn't get very invested in the characters - lack of action will do that - and overall the read was just "Meh"....
This started out a great book, and then when I got towards the end it felt very rushed almost like the author had a specific page count or word count she had to stick to and most was used in the beginning and middle leaving the end to be short changed. I'm not saying the book was bad, in fact up till the end(and the end wasn't horrible) this was one of my favorite Jenika Snow books but I needed more from the end. I feel like had she spend more time on the end and given us more pages to properly end the book this would have been spectacular.
Shoshanna and Toby have know each other their whole lives, they both grew up in the same town and went to the same school but thats all they have known of each other. Every girl thinks Toby is handsome and Shoshanna is no exception but she isn't his type and she won't be like the girls he likes. Toby has always known who Shoshanna was but what he knew the most was that he wasn't good enough for her. When Toby finally talks to Shoshanna he asks her to a party. Having no clue why she decides to go Shoshanna ends up at the party. When she finds Toby They talk and when he is about to kiss her Shoshanna leaves.
Now years later Toby is still gorgeous, and though Shoshanna has more confidence she knows she still isn't her type. When she see's him at a bars and has had a little too much to drink Shoshanna and Toby can no longer deny their attraction. Now that Toby has her he has no plans to let her walk away but a phone call changes everything, and when Toby leaves Shoshanna finds out their night together left something behind, and Shoshanna will have to tell Toby the truth even if he walks away for good.
I know many don't like the baby one night stand story line but I love it and thats what drew me to this book. The beginning of this book was great and gave us an amazing look into who Shoshanna and Toby were as well as how they first got to know each other. Had this been a full length book it would have been amazing. Toby was a great hero like all of Ms. Snows Heroes Toby is possessive and head over heals in love for his heroine. Shoshanna was a smart kind herione and though she had some body issues it wasn't the focus and it wasn't all that was talked about.
I would have loved to have scene what happened to the evil people from their past or to see them run into each other now for more drama, I was actually surprised this didn't happen. This books was more focused on Toby and Shoshanna which was a nice change from many books. Overall this was a really good book for anyone who loves a possessive hero, we also get a glimpse into who book two will be about and I'm excited to read that one also. It's a book I will be keeping my eye out for.
Shoshanna Clarke hated highschool, every day was just another check towards being done with they bullying she was subjected too. Her only highlight was secretly watching her crush, local bad boy, Toby Mason from afar. Shoshanna had no idea that Toby was harboring an attraction as well but he did not feel worthy of her at the time.
Five years later and a drunken moment, they both fall into bed with one another. When that one night ended with an unexpected pregnancy, Shoshanne will find out Toby has become the man he believes will make her proud.
Fun read. I liked that we had a glimpse into high school life between the two before they grew up. This should be an entertaining new series by Jenika Snow.
VERY DISAPPOINTING! This is not what I've come to expect from Jenika at all. The best thing about the book was the sex. Halfway through the book after Sashonna and Toby were out of college and living there lives their conversations were very childish, like they were in high school. Only 93 pages. I'm so disappointed with this book. I'm sorry Jenika but I do not recommend this book to anyone.
One question and just one question - WHICH PART OF THE GIRL IN THE COVER PAGE SCREAMS OVERWEIGHT??? No seriously, the girl calls herself overweight so many times its hard to forget- Guy-Hey, you look pretty Her- But I'm fat
Random Girl- That's a nice dress Her- But I'm overweight
Guy- Hey that's a nice house you got Her- But look at me *whines* I'm so fat
Guy- Here's your pen Her- CAN'T YOU SEE??? I'M FAT!!! *breaks into tears*
While I do have a weakness for Jenika's books this one seemed to be missing something, I know it's a short book but I never really connected to the characters and in a book this length I really begrudged the time spent on Ace and Lauren and while I appreciate their book is probably next Toby and Shoshanna didn't have enough pages of their own anyway. The scenes when they're together are lovely but for this to work for me I needed more.
I will get out on a limb and say it was cute but short. Too short. What's more, I don't get the whole idea of pining over a guy, for years, only to be irresponsibly knocked up by said man on the very first occasion.

The story was great, but it just was not enough. I really feel like this could've been a full length novel and it would've made this story a little more believable. Other than that, the sex scenes were amazing and I really loved Toby.
I was disappointed, it just didn't have the same flair as the other books Jenika Snow writes. Couldn't connect with the characters at all and the sex scenes weren't very good either.
The Best Mistake by Jenika Snow is a scorching hot, second-chance romance. Do bad-boy Toby and good-girl Shoshannah have what it takes to turn a one-night stand into a lasting relationship?
Toby and Shoshannah met in middle school. In high school, Toby was the good looking, perfect jock who had a perfect blonde cheerleading girl friend. He did express an interest in Shoshannah, it never led anywhere but he thought she was beautiful and smart.
Shoshannah never believed Toby would look twice at her. She's smart and nerdy, not at all his type - especially in high school. When Toby invites her to a party, she goes and they almost kiss but she freaks out an almost runs away.
Fast forward five years and they're both pretty tipsy at a bar. Shoshannah never indulges in one-night stands but decides to finally fulfill the Toby fantasy and go home with him. Boy they are hot together. Toby is super sexy and their chemistry is red hot.
A misunderstanding ensues which leaves Shoshannah questioning her choices. They have issues to work out before they get their deserved happily ever after. This is a really sweet, hot book that is a fun read. I received an ARC in exchange for a review.
Everyone needs a little courage sometimes I love second chance stories! This book might not be for everyone, but the author really brought reality to the fore when these two spent years apart wishing they could be together. I love that the right woman and the right circumstances gave Toby the push he needed to change for the better. This book was a fantastic read, as always, and I can’t wait to see what the author brings my way next.
The Best Mistake is a quick and easy, opposites attract, one night stand, accidental baby, romance read. Toby and Shoshanna are polar opposites in every way. She has crushed on him since middle school and he’s wanted her since their senior year of high school. One night brings them into each other’s orbit but neither is prepared to follow through until years later. Their attraction is stronger and they are unable fight it. They fall hard and fast and it’s one helluva a sexy ride. TBR and Enjoy.
I always look to JS when I want some light-hearted smut but I didn't much like Her Best Mistake. The chemistry seemed forced and it's my fault for not checking the length but it was barely long enough. As it was it felt like they had sex and lived happily ever after - no story in between. I agree with another reviewer where she said it felt like an outline but with no story to flesh it out. It is pretty pricey for the length too. I'll be sure to check next time.
4 stars. This was a cute story. From the beginning. Some parts were Get a back bone girl. but I guess some females it takes a while to build. Kudos to the author
Oh, the heat is HOT, and the physical chemistry is captivating so be careful you may just get burned all the heat coming off these pages. There were some "oh no" "oh wow" " what the what" moments and add in uncanny mishaps, and shenanigans the good kind that makes you keep turning the pages till last page has been turned. The chemistry /attraction between these two can be seen with the naked eye and the intense pull did go away after growing up. Shoshanna and Toby met in high school where she was the brains (aka nerd) that made him the popular jock. She was picked on, probed, talked about, and mistreated daily. Of course, he is the jock with the perfect hair, amazing smile, lovable attitude, and sexy what’s not to love so he skated through high school. The two had a near kiss and fate decided to step in a few years later, we all know once fate has her hands in the game it is her way or well her way. So, when they meet years late both adults a little more mature but are, they mature enough to accept the gift that will grace their lives in nine months and is they find happiness together?
Shoshanna has tried to live under the radar as she attends high school. She is known for her quiet and nerdy personality. The schools bad boy jock, Toby, has watched Shoshanna from a far but hasn't approached her because of his stuck-up attitude and a player among the girls. Five years later, Shoshanna and Toby bump into each other in Silver Springs bar and they realize that they both have grown up and have changed since their school days. Going home with Toby may or may not be a mistake to jump start a relationship that never developed in high school. Will the news that Shoshanna have for Toby, help him to change his womanizing ways and become the type of man who is better than his own father? This is a wonderful story of realizing that a person can change for the better when circumstances change a person's life. That trials in life are here to make one a better person and not break you. Enjoy!
I’m a fan of this author and enjoy her stories, this one is no different.
Toby and Shoshanna were star crossed lovers who met at school but it just wasn’t meant to be. I really liked how this story spanned a few years and showed them then and now and how they were essentially the same people but more ready for each other.
The characters were well written, and I liked how Ace was introduced and given some time in this story to be developed for the next book, his friendship with Toby was a great dynamic.
I would have liked for Shoshanna to have developed or had a broader friend group - she seemed to have no one of her own and that seemed a little isolating for her, especially with her family.
Overall another great read by this author though

This was a quick read with a sweet second chance romance between Toby and Shoshanna. They knew of each other in high school but were in different social circles. Toby the well loved football star and Shoshanna the quiet kept to herself nerdy girl. One day Toby takes his chance letting Shoshanna know how he feels unable to trust him Shoshanna ignores him and leaves for college. Flash forward where they run into each other again. Toby not willing to let her slip through his fingers pursues Shoshanna. Circumstances separate them once again leading Shoshanna to yet again feel like she isn't good enough. Topy has to prove himself and fight for his happily ever after. This was a sweet second chance romance with a broody hero and good girl heroine.

Poor Toby is Mr. Popularity in high school for the first part of the book. That doesn’t really change in the second part of the book, just no longer in high school. He has a bad secret past with his family and that is the reason for some of his past behavior with Shoshanna. She has her own stuff to deal with in high school, being bullied, especially by Toby’s girlfriend, and a mom never satisfied with anything she does. I love how Toby just goes in for the kill in the second part of the book. Lots of alcohol helps with that. I also love how he makes sure they finish their conversations when finishes his obligations in the second part. I would love to read Ace’s book after getting the teases!
I have to say right from the start, I admired Shoshanna. She had the strength to not give into something she desired but would be bad for her at the time. Much as my romantic heart would wish that her and Toby got together back then. Toby's destructive behavior and the reasons behind it made that feeling worse. He really needed her but at the same time, he might have needed her too much. Things happen for a reason, they happen when they need to happen and that is very true here too. I would have liked to have had more time on the page with them together but still a great read. The tease of Toby's friend Ace and the object of his hidden affections whetted my appetite for his book. Can't wait for it!
I thought that this was a really good book. Toby and Shoshanna great together. These two grew up together but it wasn't until their senior that they actually talked. Toby noticed Shoshanna but thought that she was way too good for him. Shoshanna was always the one to be picked on and made fun of but she had major crush on Toby for a long time. These two finally reconnection after a couple of years after high school and they can't fight the feelings that come up and the ones that have long since been buried. These two have some things to work out after a one night stand and the consequences of stand. I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it and Ms. Jenika as a great author.

Shoshanna and Toby have known each other all through their schools years but travel in different circles. Toby is the bad boy jock. Shoshanna is the nerdy rich girl. their are attracted to each other but do nothing about it. It is five years after high school and they meet in a bar. The sparks are still there. Will they act on those feelings now? Steamy read

Nobody does OTT insta love better than Jenika Snow and The Best Mistake was no exception. I absolutely devoured this story. Shoshanna Clarke and bad boy Toby Mason were simply amazing together. Toby is the bad boy and she is the shy, quiet good girl that cannot wait to escape high school. One night with Toby changes Shoshanna's life forever. Can Toby convince Shoshanna that he wants forever? 5 stars!
