Jacques Werup is one of the foremost poets of his generation and the question "Why does one become a poet?" enticed him to write an autobiographical essay about poetry, supplemented with poems he's carried with him during the last half-century: "Poets and poems I'd brought along to the deserted island".
Jacques Werup, born 1945, plying his trade in Skåne, Sweden. Werup is a poet, a musician and an author. He debuted in 1971 as a 26 year old, with "Returbiljett Polen" and in 1979 received his breakthrough with "Casanovas senare resor". He was awarded with Stora romanpriset for his efforts.
Since his debut he has been published on more than 30 occassions, ranging from poetry collections, to novels, essays and interpretations and is regarded as one of the foremost authors in Sweden.
Essäer om poesi på olika teman, med utvalda dikter mellan som sannerligen var en fröjd att läsa (och med fröjd menar jag gripande). Gav mig tankar och impulser till eget skrivande, vilket alltid är vad jag söker i böcker som denna. Men också att läsa ännu mer poesi, och som sådan upplever jag att boken fungerat som dörröppnare in till många fler författarskap. Och jag har ju inte läst något av Werup själv, så det blir jag också nyfiken på att göra.
