When a series of possessions and disappearances start plaguing Willow Grove, Eleni Stavros is sent to investigate. As a master fire mage and Senior Inquisitor, she has seen it all. But nothing prepares her for the shitstorm she’s about to step into, and least of all the beautiful Doppelganger who sweeps in at the most unexpected moment.
Lyall is equal light and darkness, a walking contradiction driven at times by unbridled bloodlust and at other times by a nearly feral need to protect. She should fear him, but the trust and attraction between them is too strong.
When Eleni’s dreadful past collides with the present, both their lives end up hanging in the balance. Will the darkness that lurks deep within them snuff out their light, or will they beat Fate at her own twisted games?

While this book reads as standalone, it is highly recommended to read Destined to the Lycan first as some characters from that novel will make an appearance in this one.
USA Today bestselling author Regine Abel is a fantasy, paranormal, and sci-fi junkie. Anything with a bit of magic, a touch of the unusual, and a lot of romance will have her jumping for joy. She loves writing hot alien warriors meeting no-nonsense, kick-ass heroines. Her novels are steamy, action-packed, and with the twists and turns you never saw coming.
Before devoting herself as a full-time writer, Regine had surrendered to her other passions: music and video games! After a decade working as a Sound Engineer in movie dubbing and live concerts, Regine became a professional Game Designer and Creative Director, a career that has led her from her home in Canada to the US and various countries in Europe and Asia.
I haven’t come across a bad Regine Abel book yet. They just get better and better. I absolutely loved how the other books fit in with this one. Read them all, best if in order. I love the way Regine Abel develops and elicits feels, whether human, snake man, or doppleganger. The plot is exciting and engaging. Her writing is always solid. An added bonus, I believe I remember reading at some point that Abel used to b3 a graphic artist, so we get the coolest ever author’s view of monsters and characters at the end of each book, so awesome!
M/F monster Romantasy How Spicy is it? 4/5 🔥🌶️ Open door, explicit, but nit over the top. There’s not tons and tons of explicit content every other scene, it supports the plot, is well written, not just smut for the heck of it. Part of a series, should be read in order to understand what’s going on.
It was nice that Lyall found his mate. Despite all he did in his past and the last book, he was sweet at heart. He had a lot of guilt about his conception and had a hard time accepting that he was not at fault. All he wanted was to be loved, but his self doubt made it hard to see that he was truly loved by his mother and his brothers. Eleni was the perfect mate for him. They balanced each other. She was a strong mage and open minded. If you like adventure, love and found family, you will enjoy this book. It was great seeing some characters from the previous books. I look forward to the next installment.
Let me start off by saying I love everything written by Regine Abel. I gobble up every page as soon as a new book is released. It’s excellent writing, plot, and characters... I am slightly disappointed by the disproportionate amount of dark haired fmcs lately…. as blonde I would love to be able to see myself in the fmc every once in a while. Especially given the stunning artwork that I always look forward to with all of Regine Abel’s books. I was really hoping our newest heroine would be but, alas *spoiler* she is not.
I loved this book. So much action and monsters. Im glad Lyall got his happily ever after. Eleni was definitely meant for him. I barely rate any books but for Regine I will always try. So here are 5 stars just because you always write amazing non boring stories. And this one was another one that definitely kept me on the edge, eating my nails. So good. I definitely recommend this book and the previous books of this series.
Like all of her books it sucks you in and takes you on a wild ride! This book was an amazing unexpected surprise. With book 3 of The Shadow Realms released in October, I never expected another book release so soon. Even if another release date was a year from now, I would happily pre-order and wait. Her books are well worth the wait.
Regine always delivers. It was pleasant to read about a character that had realistic vulnerabilities rather than cliche ones that weren't instantly resolved just because they found someone they loved it was funny, It was sexy and sometimes it was scary But all of it was good.
I love a fantasy romance and these are so interesting! The attention to detail and how so many different unique leads are all related. The weaver threading everyone together. Worth the read.
