I mean the book is perfect. It's a rerelease of the first book in my favourite series of all time, so it was always going to be good.
The audio books people understand, Toby Longworth's performance is literally life fueling, so when I saw the rerelease on audible with Johnathan Keeble narrating I got curious.
That opening line hit, I felt a mild "eh, what was that". But as I got through it Keeble delivered a performance that proves why he is the voice of Warhammer. Don't get me wrong, I will always prefer Longworth, I'm biased, I'm a Warhammer fan, Longworth is my ride or die. Keeble is probably better though as a whole.
As strong an opening to a galaxy spanning epic as you could hope for.
I have come back to the Heresy, retreading the ground I did well over a decade ago and this first step into the crusade is such a strong moment.
Abnett presents a tryptich of wars that the Lunar Wolves find themselves in and asks the question, what is the end goal, what is the final path open to these warriors. An empire set in its own idea of truth? A monster fighting an endless war closed off from the galaxy, or something working towards peace.
