Jack D. Albrecht Jr. resides in Colorado. He is a devoted father and a full time student. His new found passion for writing consumes most of his time, but once in a while he can still be found under the hood of a car or studying for his Pharmaceutical degree. Jack has been an avid reader for most of his life, with Sci-Fi and fantasy being his favorite genres. Osric's Wand: The Wand-Maker's Debate (A Kindle Best Seller) is his first novel, co-authored by Ashley Delay.
Okay, so this was the sequel to the first one, "The Wand-Maker's Debate," which was wonderful. But "The High-Wizard's Hunt" should really have been shortened and simply added to the end of the first book.
It was laboriously filled with lots of descriptions of the wars and intrigue, with very little of anything new; just character development. Glad I read it, for the resolution to book one, but was disappointed in the book overall.
Loved this series! I was sad at the ending of this book and am hoping the next is much kinder to the fated lovers. Love the battles and victories but please give the heroes and heroines more much deserved happiness!
Very good sequel. But, Yipes! Cliffhanger. Still, not sorry I read it---even though I hate waiting for next book. It is the kind of fantasy I love. Great story and well written.
Welcome to Archana, a world different from Earth where some of the animals are sentient and can talk. There are dwarves, elves, unicorns, dragons, nd creatures brand new for this series. On Archana a good death is when one is hunted, killed, and eaten as food to nourish others. Everyone has magical abilities which are channeled through wands.
The worldbuilding is handled deftly and in an interesting manner that engages one in the character and plot development at the same time.
I enjoyed this one as much as the first. So thankful for finding a new author to enjoy. The story just becomes richer the farther you go. The POV switches are maddening (in a good way) going from cliffhanger to cliffhanger. I definitely need the third book.
Words, wands and war. Osric must learn to use two to prevent the third. Will he be able to uncover and understand the mysteries of magic in words and wands in time to stop a world war. With his friends he takes on the challenge. Pebble is still my favorite character!
now i am hooked. This was such a great, easy and creative book. i was hooked after the first page.
The characters were easy to fall in love with and follow, along with the story. the author made the mental visions so easy and vivid of the surroundings and the characters actions felt so real.
i would highly recommend this author and this book.
Book #2 in Osric's tale, The High-Wizard's Hunt leaves off where book #1 finished.
It had been a little while since I read book 1, so it did take me a few pages to get back into the swing of things, but the story progressed pretty quickly from the opening scene.
There was a lot of intrigue and veiled threat in this book, that I believe could have been left out, the uncertainty of who was causing things to happen and Osric having to figure it all out got a little old by the end of the story.
I felt that Osric became too powerful, too hard to kill or stop or whatever, that it was a lot of action for the sake of action.
The story did have some good points, Pebble was delightful again, and with less of his 'speech' so it wasn't too much to read. He was able to interject a feeling of youthful playfulness into the most grave situations.
I quite enjoyed some of the different types of magic, wielded by both sides, the lion battle scene was a bit sad, but quite interesting.
All in all, I liked the book, but I don't think it needed to be that drawn out, it could have been culled quite heavily and added to the end of book 1 and/or the start of book 3.
**Note: I received an electronic copy of this book in return for an honest review**
The second novel in the Osric's Wand series definitely does not disappoint.
I found this novel engaging, entertaining, fun and adventurous.
Osric and company continue to look for answers and find more than they bargained for. Gaining new powers, allies and experience along the way, Osric learns the true meanings of leadership and sacrifice.
I am truly eagerly awaiting the next novel in the series.
I think I'm gonna have withdraw symptoms until the next installment comes out ... I really enjoyed this book as much or maybe even more than the first book.
To be sure ... there are some "holes" in the story (I'm hoping that they were intentional so as to set up future books in this series), but the story doesn't really suffer for them.
All in all ... if you enjoy magic/fantasy stories ... you should be reading these.
I have never read this author but took someone else ' advice and I am glad I did! I'm on my way to the next book in the series and I hope it's just as good as this. I am crossing my fingers. Thanks, Lynn
