“Dear Laird, I will be happy to become your wife. I must inform you I have punched a gentleman in the face before, so our wedding must happen in London to restore my family’s reputation. Then I will gladly follow you to the Highlands and help your clan as agreed. Soon-to-be yours, Lady Emma Huntington.”
Only...her groom never shows up. And Emma won't be abandoned... Even if it means travelling to Scotland in her wedding dress, bringing all the animals she can find home, and challenging her lethal Laird at every chance. *** Fearsome Pirate Laird Logan is amused by his bride's games. The wilder she gets, the more obsessed he becomes. And once his control snaps, he won't stop until he tastes every bit of her surrender...
*When the Laird Takes is a steamy Scottish historical romance novel of 80,000 words (around 400 pages) written by Eloise Madigan and published by Cobalt Fairy.
No cheating, no cliffhangers, lots of steam and a happy ending.
Lady Emma Huntington punched a man in the nose in England and became a pariah. No man wanted to marry her. Her family was shamed and her reputation ruined.
Laird Logan in Scotland was a pirate who was called back to his clan. His brother was presumed dead and his father, the laird died, so Logan was the only heir left. He ruled his pirate ship with fear and orders, but had respect, and continued to do so when he became Laird. Maids scurrying down the hall trembled and put their backs against the wall when he walked down the halls.
Lairds in Scotland did not want their daughters to marry into Logan’s clan for an alliance. They valued their daughters too much.
Isobel, his sister, was one of the few people who could talk to him, but he only allowed her to say a minimum number of words before cutting her off. She did get through to him that the council wanted him to marry to produce heirs and because he was not having any luck in Scotland, she suggested spreading a wider net. She was the one who made contact with Lady Emma’s father to make an alliance. The agreement was made, but Emma insisted they marry in London to help repair her family’s shame and her reputation. She wrote to Logan and told him that she had punched a man in the nose because she didn’t want to enter the marriage with any secrets.
On the day of their marriage, he did not show. She was doubly embarrassed. Instead of just being a victim, she decided to go to Scotland, look him in the eye, and demand an explanation. She left that day immediately after the wedding. Her friend, Melody, had married a Scottish laird and they offered to take her there.
However, also on the morning of the marriage, his castle was attacked and he was injured with a deep cut that kept bleeding and couldn’t travel, so he sent a letter right away.
Emma arrived at his castle and did not know that everyone was afraid of Laird Logan so she spoke her piece. She did not know he wrote a letter. Their banter went back and forth. He was intrigued. They did marry, but it was only to be a contract marriage with rules they both made, then he left for the pirate ship the next morning.
He had gone back and forth between two worlds and had trouble adjusting to the land world, yet wanted to look after his clan that had been depleted when he first arrived.
This was a very funny book! I laughed out loud with their interactions and dialogue. She was also creative and ending up changing the whole atmosphere of the castle. The servants and people in the villages loved her!
The story was a great one and it was hard to put the book down! I highly recommend this book!
I’m assuming this is the final book in the series though Isabel could use a story. I was surprised that Melody and Callum were the only characters, from the two previous books, to be mentioned in this book. This book was still fantastic, it was just an observation. Lucas had so much ‘crap’ to overcome from his childhood. It took much courage to push through it even though he didn’t see it that way. Lots of twists and turns. I believe you will enjoy this book as much as I did. I’ve read every book by this author by publication date, from first written to most recent. They were all great. This writer has such a wonderful gift. Start reading. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
Laird Logan is worth the story! He has a nice balance between work on the sea & laird duties! His wife Amelia is an altogether different issue. He has his hands full with an attention demanding wife. So exhausting. Guess she figures money grows on trees & her husband doesn’t need to work. Fortunately he survives the ordeal & holds to balance!
What an interesting ride! Emma, the English lady who could find solutions to her own problems and implement them sometimes with impunity! Logan, the Pirate Laird who made harsh decisions with less than a cool head! This story has plenty of twists and turns and will certainly keep the reader guessing. A delight!
The characters were awesome and very interesting! The adventure was exciting. Trying to live two lives at the same time is trying at best. The mischief she got up to was very funny. Thanks for sharing your wonderful adventure!!!
Enjoyed this story. I loved her strength and that she kept her spirits up no matter what was thrown at her. Her banter back to him made me giggle a few times. An enjoyable read.
It's amazing he survived his childhood and became a pirate. She was a feisty thing and was afraid of being abandoned. She does some pretty silly things to get his attention, but does it work? It has a real twist at the end and the extended epilogue is a nice finish.
This book made me LOL, it was funny and I couldn't wait to turn the page. I loved Emma's character, she was funny, feisty, proud and full of energy for an English lady living in the highlands. Totally recommend.
