Disavowed by those he swore to protect…

Tennessee Smith is a wanted man. Betrayed by his government and hunted by his former employer, he’s been stripped of everything he holds dear. If the CIA finds him, they’re sure to take his life as well. His only shot at getting it all back is taking down the man who burned him. He knows just how to get to Senator Hank McDonald and that’s through his daughter, Faith. In order to seduce her, he must become something he never thought he’d be—a Dom.

Overcome by isolation and duty…

All her life, Dr. Faith “Mac” McDonald has felt alone, even among her family. Dedicating herself to helping others and making a difference in the world has brought her some peace, but a year spent fighting the Ebola virus in West Africa has taken a toll. She’s come home for two months of relaxation before she goes back into the field. After holding so many lives in her hands, nothing restores her like the act of submission. Returning to her favorite club, Mac is drawn to the mysterious new Dom all the subs are talking about, Master No. In the safety of his arms, she finds herself falling head over heels in love.

Forced to choose between love and revenge…

On an exclusive Caribbean island, Ten and Mac explore their mutual attraction, but her father’s plots run deeper than Ten could possibly have imagined. With McKay-Taggart by his side, Ten searches for a way to stop the senator, even as his feelings for Mac become too strong to deny. In the end, he must choose between love and revenge—a choice that will change his life forever.

5 Stars

I unfortunately don't have the time to write this the full and glowing review this amazing book deserves, but I can't just give it 5 stars and call it a day either. This was easily, hands down, the best book in the series. I had some high hopes for Ten "Master No" Smith, and all I can say is they weren't met, they were exceeded. The amazing thing is that nine books into the series, it just keeps getting better and better, which is no easy feat.

First, I would recommend not reading this as a standalone even though plenty of background is given for you to do that easily. This series always has a suspense element arc that is carried on through each book while having it's own individual HEA. While Mr. Black was taken care of in Ian's book (Love and Let Die, there is now a new baddie and they're even more powerful. You get the full gist of this in Jessie's book in You Only Love Twice. So I highly recommend reading these books in order to truly appreciate what's going on beyond the romance and all the secondary characters (from past books and new ones just introduced)

What I can tell you is this was so much more than just a romance and also much more than suspense. It was captivating, emotional, heart-pounding, erotic, suspenseful, gut-wrenching. In 2 words? Un-fucking-believably good. I knew Ten had quite the history to him but nothing prepared me for the full dose of what he'd been through.

Faith “Mac” McDonald was his perfect equal and balance in every way. I loved her quiet and unassuming strength. Considering the family she comes from, she was definitely a pleasant surprise. Even though it feels like their "courtship" is quick, it also wasn't. I'm not sure how Lexi Blake managed to pull that off, but she did. How you can formulate such an intense and believable connections through emails and conversations and a few meetings short after, I have no idea. But not only did she pull it off, she did it flawlessly. I loved it.

Nothing and I mean nothing prepared me for that last 25%. I cried my damn eyes out. I'm talking ugly crying, sniveling, whole body shaking kind of crying. It fucking gutted me. I loved every miserable second of it. The set up for a certain character in this book is nothing short of incredible. I'm pretty sure I'd part with an ovary if not both to get my hands on his book. I mean, OH MY GOD! Are you fucking kidding me? GAH! And his book isn't even the next one. I think the wait just may kill me. I'm not even kidding. Kill me dead.

If you haven't yet discovered this phenomenal series yet, you are really missing out. Espionage, heart-pounding suspense, scorching sex, and unforgettable love stories all combined for an absolutely unputdownable read. I can't recommend it enough. If this book doesn't make you a die-hard fan of this author, I don't know what will.

5 **kick-ass** STARS

“I think we should play a game.”
That got her heart rate up. “What kind of game?”
“The kind where I torture you and you scream for me.”

What a treat. I have been a fan of this series for a long time and I'm still astonished when a new book comes out and it lives up to the rest or is even better. That's quite the accomplishment for Ms. Blake since we are talking full length novel #9 and countless novellas on the side. I'm still invested and interested in these characters, their relationships and their kick-ass missions. I love coming back and I could read a few hundred more if we would be so lucky to get them.

Master No tells the story of Ten and Faith, it is the ninth instalment and should not be read as a standalone. Especially Ten has a long history within the Masters & Mercenaries universe and almost every side character in this book is reoccuring. That's just how it works with this family. As BigTag put it perfectly...

“Yep. I can’t get rid of anyone.”

Tennessee Smith has revenge on his mind. For his sister, but most importantly for his dead brother. Disavowed by the agency and with nothing left to lose he has one goal and that is to get the bastard behind it all.

The target: Senator Hank McDonald

The way in: Faith McDonald, a Doctor who owns a free clinic in Liberia, do gooder and all around ready for sainthood and also the Senator's daughter.

Faith McDonald is also a submissive. For a few weeks every year she comes home to America, to have a little down time and spend some quality time with a Dom. Her last Master broke up with her and she is on the lookout for a new one. Fortunately Ten had already planted Erin and Theo as her bodyguards a year ago and the long time commitment paid off. They became friends and are now homebound to have a little vacation at Sanctum and the Dom she is meeting with is non other than Ten.

The whole set-up for this mission is quite elaborate and Faith is basically a means to an end for Ten. But despite the calculated aspect of the D/s relationship Faith and Ten quickly built a very deep connection. Makes you wonder what will happen when Faith finds out his intentions were less than honest. And then there is the thing about her evil family. Girl has a lot of stuff to deal with in the future.

“There was a darkness about the man that she might never be able to penetrate, but it drew her to him like a moth to the flame.”

Both Ten and Faith are really fascinating characters. Selfless in their professional pursuits. Faith as a doctor in a third world country basically lives to serve the poor and tries to saves lives one person at the time. She is resilient and her determination and commitment is just beautiful.

Ten spent the better part of his life serving his country. Not unlike Faith he sacrificed a lot more than he should have along the way. Up until now Ten was a bit of a riddle. Over the course of the series we have seen him come and go. Turning up in the most precarious situations with questionable intentions. That is gone. His loyalties are now purely on Ian's side, well and on the side of vengeance. I loved the dual POV, seeing the story from all sides. Especially getting to know the enigma that is Tennessee Smith. His secrets, his past and especially his vulnerabilities.

“I don’t have anything to offer her.”
Tag’s lips quirked up in a sad smile. “That’s the funny thing about women. The good ones don’t require anything.”

Despite the danger and mayhem these books are feel good reads for me. I love Lexi Blake's writing and I absolutely adore the Masters & Mercenaries. I know what I'll get before I even one-click and nothing can beat the feeling of coming home when all of your favourite characters kick a little ass again.

That is until the last 25% happened. Completely gutted and also severe case of adrenaline overdose. Holy shit. Ms. Blake sure has no problem shocking us with some fucked up twists and turns. If only we could have the next books sooner rather than later. Book hangover, anyone?

3* no baby no... STARS!

Tennessee Freakin' Smith. The most anticipated story because he always makes me curious. He's not a Dom and he isn't really into BDSM. Ten was introduced a long time ago (I forget which book LOL!). Working for The Agency, Ten has really serious control and very strict, but he could be fun and laid-back especially with woman. Yeah, his first appearance keeps me wondering about his secrets.

Tennessee Smith is very close friend of Ian Taggart also ex-partner. He's still active with Agency when Ian left him and building new life with McKay-Taggart. The Agency specialize deadly and dangerous case. In You Only Love Me Twice, finally Ten realize there is a mole in their group who work for The Collective; criminal group whose hunted by McKay-Taggart until now. Also, the secret who only Ten knows was a big fat lie by senator Hank McDonald. Now, Ten has become a fugitive since Dubai. He left The Agency to restore his reputation and take revenge to Hank McDonald. In Master No, Ten got helped from Ian Taggart and he need disguise and become a Dom to obtain information from one of Hank's daughter, Faith McDonald.

I could say Ten-Faith relationship is a bit awkward and uncomfortable towards each other (Yeah, not easy to trust strange esp. with issues). Ten has changed from womanizer to harsh and cold to women because of revenge. He also has awful past before got adopted. Ten learns to 'socialize' again to gain trust from Faith. He become a hard-ass dominant man but his new ass-ttitude makes me lose interest. Otherwise, Faith is a smart and too-sweet kind of woman. She looks like a sheep in front of black wolf. She's quite naive because she believe everyone has good heart and she never suspected his father and sister.

description

BDSM is the only escape from Faith's demanding job. Honestly, I couldn't feel the chemistry with their D/s relationship. Maybe because they're so awkward or too forced so I hardly enjoy it. Like a Dom wannabe, Ten couldn't show his dominant attitude in D/s. I hope I would see Ten as a Dom like Ian, but it isn't like that. His role as a Dom only for cover. Hmph. I realize Ten doesn't wire like that. Maybe he enjoy a bit of kinky sex, but only occasionally. Maybe in Master No, the D/s between Ten and Faith only for spices.

I couldn't feel the any heat from this book, maybe because the thrill to catch the bad guys? Argh! I'm so sad because Ten-Faith's kinky relationship less intriguing, yeah maybe this is only for disguise. Heavy burden by duty and responsibility and that's his problem. In the end, I didn't like insta-love between them. They suddenly claimed couldn't life without each other. However, Ten always keep his distance with Faith because he decided he isn't good enough for her). But, thumb up for the not-really-surprise ending.

description

IMO, this story has the biggest portion of action & suspense. The only focused to get revenge from Hank McDonald also hunting The Collective. My interest piqued with Theo-Erin relationship. They're more easy to follow. Not to forget Ian's sarcasm always make me laugh. For me, Ten is one of the hero who 'forced' to become Dom beside Jesse in the previous book. At least, Jesse is hotter than him right now. Overall, I hardly enjoyed it beside the action and suspense, the other didn't work for me. Slightly boring and anti-climatic. But wait... this isn't the end. I really anticipated the Taggart twins' story!

Before I start my review i just need to say, I fucking knew it! I need that book like ASAP but it's not even the next one! What the hell?!? But I sooooooo knew it wouldn't end like that!

Anywho...

Tennessee Smith is on a mission to avenge his brothers death. Going after the daughter of the guy responsible, he plans on seducing her into giving him the answers he needs. He just never planned on falling for her. Faith McDonald works herself to death to help others, going to poorer countries and helping for months at a time. Wanting a break from everything she arranges to meet with a Dom when she comes home for a break after a nasty outbreak of Ebola. She thought she would come home, have some fun, and then go back to her job. She never thought she would fall for her Dom and then be thrust in a world of secrets and danger.

This series never disappoints me and this book is just another reason that I love it. So much intrigue and romance and emotions all over the place. Ten and Faith started a relationship based on lies but after they actually met there was no lying about the connection they shared. Ten was a hard ass that lived only for the job but now that he has Faith in his life he's learning to take joy in other things. I liked seeing the warring emotions going on with him when he couldn't decide if he could trust Faith or not. I feel like he grew a lot throughout the book and it was great to see.

I did want a little more romance between Ten and Faith because I felt like the majority of the book focused on the secondary characters and the mission. Even without the romance, though, I couldn't put this book down. The suspense and secrets grabbed my attention and made the story really enjoyable. Getting glimpses of the other characters was also great, I was rooting for Theo and Erin throughout the whole book and couldn't help but swoon when Ian and his little girls were in the story.

Overall, this was a suspenseful, emotional, sweet story of two people so different yet perfect for each other. If you aren't already a fan of Lexi Blake, this book will make you bow down to her and praise her awesomeness.

MASTER NO was hands down, the BEST book of the series for me! This nail-biting, pulse-pounding, scorchingly hot, emotionally driven beauty of a book, had me up until the wee hours of the morning. I went through a myriad of emotion while reading this book, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I laughed. I cried. I sighed. I blushed. I cried some more. Fans of the M&M series, NOTHING will prepare you for the events that occur in Blake's latest masterpiece.

I can't say too much because I am not going to give anything away, but my god, was this epic! My heart was shredded and mended in a matter of a few chapters. I've been waiting for Ten's book for a while now and Lexi delivered a pretty incredible story.

Tennessee Smith, wanted man, seeks revenge for his family, for his life. The only way in, the only way to get what he needs to dismantle his enemy, is through Faith “Mac” McDonald. He must get close to her, seduce her, be the Dom that she craves - all this without risking his heart in the process. But what does he do? He gets too close, emotions get involved, and a trust, a love that he has never had before, gets torn apart.

Two people who were never looking for love, finds something even deeper, more meaningful than they've ever known before. But the foundation of their relationship is built on lies and deception. How does the heart survive that kind of impact?

Hearts are broken, devastation rocks McKay-Taggart to its very core, and lives will never be the same again.

Lexi Blake is an author who continuously pours her heart and soul into her books and her readers feel that in every single page. This decadent romance left me with a heavy heart, my stomach in knots, and my head in the clouds. To say my emotions were everywhere would be putting it lightly. MASTER NO is Lexi Blake at her finest and I can't wait for her fan's hearts to be completely touched with Ten's story.

She was the one for him. She was his prize at the end of this hellish nightmare.

Tennessee Smith has very few ties to anyone in his life. No one has wanted him from the day that he was born. His one constant in his life? His father who took him in and groomed him into the Agency poster boy. Dead. His brother who was his lightness to his shadows. Killed in an OP that went wrong. His sister Phoebe survived and is now happy with Jesse Murdoch.

His next operation to get close to Senator McDonald who got him disavowed. His target? One of the daughters. Faith. Don’t get me started on the other sister, crazy amoral, psychopathic bitch.

This was the one book that I wasn’t sure about. I wasn’t sure about any of it. Was I going to like it or wasn’t I? I’m on the fence with this one although I warmed up to Ten immensely over the last couple of books it didn’t really change much about how I felt about him. I understood him more. But likeable? Not really.

Faith McDonald is nothing like her father or her sister. She is soft and kind-hearted. She is a humanitarian. Or naïve take your pick. She works in third world countries nine months of the year. After the Ghana incident she goes switches countries to Liberia. But this time she has bodyguards Theo Taggart and Erin Argent. I will get to these two later. They have a special place here.

I’m in the minority here I think this book was hard to read. Hard to finish. It was a dragging. The one thing that really got to me was the ending. Be still my beating heart for Theo & Erin. Ugly cry. I usually don’t cry. I still can’t give it anything more than 3 stars even if the ending for me was emotionally draining.

I couldn’t really connect with the characters. I didn’t like them or dislike them. This whole book makes me feel odd.

Ten was betrayed by one woman, one woman who let in. He decided to not make the same mistake twice. He has his doubts that Faith is an innocent in this whole mess but after getting to know one another well as well as you can get to someone when going undercover. He feels as if he has nothing to offer. That he is of no value. He carries guilt with him and is prepared to sacrifice his own life for those of others. Shame that no one wanted to leave him behind. I hate martyrs.

Erin and Theo convince Faith to come back to Dallas with them to relax at Sanctum. Dumped by her old Dom and not interested in going back to the old club she takes them up on that offer. They want to set Faith up with a Dom. Enter Timothy Graham aka Tennessee Smith. Her soon to be Dom.
“All Erin will tell me she doesn’t like douchebags. Unfortunately for her, that’s all we have here.”
Although Ten is undercover you realise right from the start that he has feelings for her and that he can’t really be objective about it. The new Ten wants to be loved. To be important.

It had been a shitty day. A shitty month. A shitty year. Fuck, it had pretty much been a shitty life and he couldn’t remember a single time someone offered him comfort in the form of warmth and a heart beating against his. Tennessee Smith found some peace.

New pawns and characters enter the world. They are still hot on the collective’s case. But the outcome won’t be what they want it to be. Lives will be lost.

“Three of them really. Ian hadn’t come alone. Sean and Case were with him. The Taggart brothers had come for one of their own.”

Betrayal will be strong but his feelings for Faith run deep and true.

“You make me feel like a king. When I fuck you, I’m the king. I’m powerful and wanted. That’s how you make me feel. You remember that. Always, No one ever made me feel the way you do.”

Ms. Blake is a genius when it comes to her penmanship but with this book I really can’t pinpoint why it isn’t on par with her usual work. I’ll try to put it into words. I wish I could say that I wasn’t somewhat bored throughout the book but I was. Ten doesn’t really fit the bill of being a M&M man. Maybe because he only did not to go undercover. Admittedly he got there in the end and he saw the appeal to it all. It is still a thorn in my side. But the overall plot and what Hope McDonald can do with a specific drug? Now that I found to be really interesting.
Erin and Theo nearly killed me with what happened.

Outtake from You Only Love Twice

„Dude, you look homeless, and what’s all that shit on your face? “ Ten stopped and started for a moment. “You know, I’m gone for months in a hostile place with everyone in the Agency looking to drag my ass in and your first words are about my beard?”
“Is that wat that’s supposed to be? Because it looks like a fucking poodle died on your face.” He poured the man a Scotch because he really looked like he’d been through hell.

Ten’s green eyes rolled. “Not that, asshole. She’s in the lifestyle.” Now it was Ian’s turn to grin. Oh this was going to be so much fun he slapped Ten on the shoulder. “Then it’s time to Dom you up, buddy. And I know just the place to do it.” But the man had to shave. After all, Sanctum had its standards.

God, just slay me. Finally we get more on Tennessee Smith. I love how the book keeps throwing out he is "Disavowed". I love this term. It generates a certain intensity that makes me feel exited for some unknown reason.

In this delicious little story, I went through it like a Tasmanian Devil and then collapsed into a book hangover. The suspense is still nicely done. The BDSM is kinky light since Ten isn't really into kink. But for Faith he will change to a flavour different than vanilla. What really pulled me into this story isn't so much the erotica or romance. It's trying to destroy this asshole senator that I want did.

Ms. Blake does a fabulous job of creating characters I love and hate. I am aghast at the killing in this story and cried "NOOOOOOOO!" I love how Ms. Blake twists that dagger in my heart just a little bit more to achieve more pain. I feel in this book and this is what I like. I want to feel something. Preferably not disgust. In this one, I'm angry, worried and pissed. Three feelings that I tend to thrive well in. I would read this book again and have favoured it on my kindle. Definitely a re-read book for me. Recommended to erotic readers looking for more suspense and bang 'em up/shoot 'em up action.

Oh my ever-loving sweet Jesus!!!! Well Lexi Blake hit it out the park with Master No.

5 stars alone for the curveball she hurled at the 75% mark and then another one on the last page!!!!! Are you kidding me? Priceless. I've always loved Big Tag and the gang but this installment took it up a few notches and now I CANNOT wait for Book 10.

Great addition to the series and a must read.

Disavowed and with a price on his head by the very government he's given his life for, Tennessee Smith's on a mission to right the wrong that's been done. If there's one thing Ten's good at, it's knowing and exploiting his enemies weaknesses to achieve his goal. In the case of Senator Hank McDonald that one weakness is his daughter Faith.

Dr. Faith McDonald is the real deal. Daughter of a prominent Senator who has chosen to volunteer her services as an MD in Africa, Faith cares for those suffering the worst humanitarian crisis of modern times even though she has every reason not to. Returning to the states for her annual birthday vacation, Faith has joined the exclusive Sanctum club contracting with one of the club's Dom to be his submissive for the duration of her vacation. Faith is in desperate need of the comfort that being a submissive provides her before returning to the reality that being the primary medical provider to countless people suffering from ebola takes on her.

I guess I want to start my review with the answer to the question I get asked the most regarding this series. That being can this be read as a standalone or not. Honestly, no. The series builds off the previous installments and incorporates many of a core set of characters that a reader really needs to know to appreciate the current installment. So, if you haven't read previous installments, don't think you can pick this one up as your first Masters & Mercenaries series read. Nope. Don't advise that at all.

That being said, if you have kept up on the series. Get ready for an explosive and action packed installment as Master T (Tennessee Smith) comes into his own embracing the dark side that he's previously been very vocal in criticizing. lol.

My one piece of advice, before starting to read this story, is to grab a full box of tissues. Remove said tissues from box, and get ready to use the contents in multiple ways. You'll find yourself balling up a wad in anger, clenching another wad tightly during the adult content scenes (and maybe wiping a bit of excess fluid secretions away in the process), wiping away the periodic tears, and lastly throwing any remaining tissues into the air in jubilation. This book has it all.

As for the adult content scenes. Obviously the scenes are of the BDSM variety with a bite of spicy impact play between the central characters. Definitely will have you curling your toes in enjoyment as their relationship plays out. lol

To the acion/adventure content. This is a story that will appeal to the male and female fan base as the crew from McKay-Taggart take on their most challenging adversary with cool headed methodical well planned organizational skills and planning. snort Those of you who've read any story that includes Ian Taggart and his staff know that more often than not the sh*t hits the fan in the most delicious of ways. Heart racing adrenaline junkies will love the suspense and testosterone fun in all it's glory.

My issues, and I'm really reaching to mention any, is that several subplot storyline slants don't play out leaving the reader hanging. Will they be addressed in future installments or were they so insignificant as to be non issues. Don't know and that's what bugs me. The other area I would have liked to be more developed would have been the actual scenes at the new Sanctum. Those who read the previous installment know why Sanctum is important. I personally would have liked to have gotten a better mental picture in all it's glory.

Lastly. The author has teased the intro to the next installment From Sanctum With Love which is exciting and I'm sure the majority of fans will appreciate reading about Kai & Kori. Unfortunately, for me, I'm utterly devastated that the author isn't embracing a different character couple to feature next. Sorry, no spoilers from me on who. Just really really depressed that these two will be left hanging. Just sayin'

First Impressions
Master No was the long awaited novel of a plot line that has been building for quite a few books when Ten was first introduced to us. I really loved this hero and I just have such a soft spot for being on the run from corrupt officials in the government and this author handled this element so perfectly. The premise of this story was fascinating. We have such a protective hero who is holding secrets from Faith, but its secrets that you can understand why he is keeping them. Faith is a bit naive at parts but we see some character growth from her. The plot is what really worked for me for this one, and the quiet intimate moments between Ten and Faith was packed with so much heart and intimacy it could make a romance reader weep for joy in the beauty of it.

First Line
Tennessee Smith took a deep breath, his body aching.

The Main Protagonists
The Hero: Tennessee Smith
The Heroine: Faith MacDonald

Summary
Master No is the long awaited novel that features Tennessee Smith, who is having to work undercover to hide from the government who want him dead because he discovered them being traitors to the country. But he has a chance to get freedom, and his freedom lies in the heart of Dr. Faith "Mac" McDonald. Faith is the daughter of the Senator who is behind the corruption and wanting the death of Ten. Faith is a doctor and scientist who works with diseases and she has no comprehension how evil her father is until she comes to the states and falls in love with this sexy Dom. But Faith will have to work through feelings of pain and betrayal and learn the value in trust in the one that holds her heart and connects to her in a way no one ever has...

What I Loved
There were many aspects of this story I truly enjoyed. The first being the plot of the story. I loved the premise of the hero needing to get information and freedom from being forced on the run to survive and Faith being the daughter of his enemy. You see the struggle that he has in keeping the truth of her but not knowing how to reveal it to her so that she won't betray him as she believes her father and sister to be good and do nothing wrong. Faith has her own strength but I liked that she wasn't curvy lol It was so refreshing just to have a normal heroine. I loved that she was intelligent, strong but not a super kick ass heroine. I loved the intimacy between Ten and Faith. The BDSM moments were so endearing and I loved the bond that they formed within those moments together.

What I Struggled With
The heroine was so naive at times. She has issues with her father and sister, but won't click the pieces into place that they are evil. Even when she has evidence, she won't believe Ten when he tells the truth. And it took her too long to come to the truth and it costs Ten so dearly. The way she reacted to this is the reason why this isn't a five star read, because everything else about this I truly loved.

Narration
I did a mix of this in audio and ebook and I really enjoyed having both format. I am disappointed this series got switched to Audible only though, because my library subscriptions didn't have them anymore so I will be settling for ebooks moving forward on these books.

Ahh!!! I KNEW IT!!!

Oh. My. God. I did not count on this. This book tore me to pieces. So many feels, man. So many feels.

I did not count on Tennessee Smith having his own book, but he did spark my interest from the previous books in the series. He had a rather peculiar relationship with Big Tag. So I was pleasantly surprised when things were finally cleared up in Jesse and Phoebe's book. This book was... epic, compared to the previous books in the series. I was totally not prepared for this book. I wish I had known! But the experience was great all the same. All I can say now is that Lexi Blake is seriously getting her game on!

Ten Smith is a man hell bent on revenge. Senator Hank McDonald is the reason why he has lost his brother and why the Government is on his ass. What better way to get through to the bastard than becoming seriously involved with his beloved daughter, Faith McDonald?

Dr Faith McDonald's life is dedicated to helping the poor and healing the sick. She regularly goes on commissions abroad where medical help is limited. When life gets too much, she flies back to the States and spends a few weeks in the arms of a... Dominant.

Ten is going to be that Dom for her upcoming vacation. But when she was finally in his clutches, he didn't count on falling for her too...

Like I said above, there was so many feels in this book. My heart was heavy, my stomach was in knots, and my mind was all but going berserk.

I couldn't put this book down. I even had to sacrifice gym time for this book. That's how engrossing this book is; romance, sex, suspense with so much FEELS. Masters and Mercenaries has now 10+ books, one would think that you'd start feeling a little burned out, right? Wrong. Lexi Blake continues to dazzle her readers with each new book in the series! I can't wait to read Kai's book!

This book was awesome! Hot, full of action, love, sadness, forgiveness and friendship. I like this series, but thought it will start having a downfall. Series I've have read had them but, oh no, this was magnificent. I loved Ten even when he was a total idiot, he had his reasons. As for Faith, she is a lovely leading lady. I wish there more people in real life like her. I'm so excited for the next book, Kai and Kori.... that's pretty interesting. An to that, let's add Theo Taggart, I want more, I want more. I can't help but love him... even when is.... yeah. No fair. One of the best book of the series, the characters are well develop, and the hook you up since the first page. I totally would recommend this book. Everyone should read this series, for sure.

A lot going on in this one!! I did not expect to like Ten as a hero as much as I did, and Faith obviously is a delight. It was good to see the Senator get what was coming to him, although I wish we'd spent a little more time on

Then there was obviously the set up for

Well I really don't have a clue how I feel about this one, I'm kind of all over the place. This one wasn't quite like all the others in this series have been for me, this didn't have all the laughs amid the chaos with fun even through the crazy case that was being solved. I loved Ten, I always felt like there was a lot more to him than we got in the other books...especially the relationship between him and Big Tag. So I really loved getting more about Ten and I loved watching him come to terms with some big life changes. Faith was okay, I got annoyed with her inner dialogue at times it seemed to be her rehashing the same things over and over. I mean she was supposed to be so smart so why in the hell could she not put all this mess together at least a little, especially with her creepy sister. I mean hello, the cell phone would have been my first clue.

The plot itself was little more, um I don't know, complex than previous books with a lot more spy info than I felt truly necessary at times. There were times the first part of the book drug for me and I usually can't put these books down, until about 60% I had no problem doing that with this one. I needed a break from some of the details or the inner arguments the MCs had with themselves at times.

Then the end left too much up in the air for me, way too much considering it appears the next book may or may not even go anywhere with completing this story line. There were two pretty big, well one was huge, things that I felt got too glossed over and I would much rather have had more detail and time spent on them. This is why I don't know how I feel because I loved the book (like all the others) but when something like this is left up in the air I detest it and it usually ruins it all for me. I just don't have the oh great that worked out feeling with a little oh look what's next on the side after this one and it sucks for me.

Spoiler AheadThis was book 9 in the Masters and Mercenaries series and it was a really good book. Tennessee Smith is a man on a mission to clear his name to get his job back and to avenge Jamie's death his brother who was married to Phoebe to bring down Senator Hank MacDonald he has to get close to his daughter Dr. Faith MacDonald. Faith likes helping people she spends her time helping the poor in Africa when the ebola virus breaks out Faith is also a submissive and Ian has trained Ten to be a Dom. This book had a lot going on in it. Erin and Theo are in a D/s relationship for the good of the operation but Theo saw it as his chance to be with Erin. This book also introduced some new players like Nick the Russian former spy and Brody who is Australian also we got some updates on the family including Damon and Penny who are having a baby. As Ten and Faith get to know each other they begin to fall in love Faith's sister Hope was crazy she showed up out of the blue it was creepy Hope was lusting after Theo. Things began to fall apart for Faith and Ten when they get to the island to her family home when her father shows up and kidnap and torture Ten along with the crazy sister and although her father tells her Ten real reason for being their she knows that he is lying about something. This book also had some sad news and I really felt bad for Erin and the rest of the family. This book also had some really good sex scenes and I think that they maybe my second favorite couple in this series behind Charlie and Ian. Although this book was long it was really good and I love reading Lexi's books. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. If you like reading about hot alpha males BDSM and lots of action drama then I recommend that you read this series. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series Kai and Kori.

Shadow's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

While this was a grand adventure of a book, it was a little more disappointing than some of Lexi Blake's works. For one thing, it was much darker than the other books in the Master and Mercenaries series, and for another, it felt incomplete. While the author can usually combine highly emotional scenes with surprising humor, the fun seemed lackluster in this offering.

Tennessee Smith sets out to seduce the daughter of the man who had his brother killed and him exiled from the CIA. But Faith's innocence, generous nature and quick mind end up capturing his wayward interest in ways he hadn't expected. As the two embark on a relationship, Faith's father looms in the background as a menacing monster, aided and abetted by her sister. Can Tennessee keep Faith safe and overcome his dark past to come into the light with the talented doctor?

I wasn't thrilled with Smith. I found him a bit wishy-washy, and cold. Faith is too good, with no flaws to offset her perfection. Her father and sister appear wholly evil. I found all of the main characters overdrawn with a lack of balance of good and bad.

This was one of those rare books where the secondary characters were much more sympathetic than the main love interest. Ian Taggert and his brothers are much more entertaining than Tennessee and Faith. My final complaint is the fact that while we have a resolution between two of the characters, the hints we have of the next book, make this effort feels like a stop-gap measure instead of a complete story.

However, having said all that, this is still an enjoyable read, with non-stop action, some hot sex scenes, and lively dialogue.

I don't even know what to say.....My mind was quite literally blown away. Lexi Blake is honest to God one of my favourite authors out there, with this series being in the Top 5 of all Times.

There are a lot of things you can expect when picking up a book in this series. A over the top alpha dom, a sassy, strong bratty sub, lots of hot sexy times and humour galore.....often provided my hero Big Tag... Now while this book did have all of the above, it was also a lot different from her usual books....this one was a little more "darker" and I use this word vaguely as it's just way different to the rest of the books in this series.

Now that's not a bad thing and we all knew Ten's books would be different. I mean from the start when we first met him, we did not know if he was gonna be a hero or a villain, so I understand his book would not be like the rest. But I guess after so many books, you just come to expect a certain formula and this time you don't really get that.....You get different and MORE....Hard to explain without reading it......

I will say towards the end there, I had to quite literally put my kindle down and walk away. I was very upset with what Ms Blake did to one of the central characters....my heart sped up so and I was gutted. Then I thought to myself, I wonder if she is not gonna pull a Charlotte Taggart and whoo hoo she does....but still not what I was expecting and now we have one hell of a long wait on our hands.

The next book is Kai's and its only out next year Feb, then who knows how long till the rest of the story gets sorted out.....poor Erin, its gonna be a long and bumpy wait...

Well done, Lexi, well done.

I don't think I've cried so hard in a book in a LONG time! I had to throw my tablet away from me to get myself under control multiple times!

As all of the fellow Lexi Blake fans knew, something drastic was going to happen in Master No, and yet it still shocked the shit out of me! Man....Lexi, you are an amazing writer and I just get sucked into your stories and into your world. I seriously felt like it was someone I knew personally and I was taking it so very hard!

Ok, onto Tennessee and Faith...

I really loved how these two were set up. How they got to know each other, and how they really came to be. I honestly think I expected a bit more out of Ten as a Dom though. I don't think they had the hottest sexual chemistry out there, especially among the other Masters and Mercenaries couples, but I still loved them. Faith was an amazing and strong character...I don't think anyone less than she could be with Ten.

Overall, very good book! One of my favorites series and they never disappoint!

Tennessee knows that the world is not a nice place, so taking an assignment where he has to dupe an unsuspecting civilian is not something he minds. Until he meets Faith.
Faith is back from her latest work as doctor in West Africa, and wanting some relaxation she accepts the help of a new to her Dom. Could he help her get back to normal before she has to return?
Ten is after the truth about Faith´s dad, and with the help of McKay-Taggart he´s going to get it. Is he ready to burn what he´s exploring with Faith, though?
Action, suspense, smutty fluff and Dominance in a great combo. Love this series!

well another good one from LB.

This book had some good things and some not so good. Let's begin with the good things:
it was intense and packed of action
it was sad sometimes
it had some new characters I hope to meet again

The bad thing is that for me Ten&Faith didn't click. I really couldn't find any romance between them. Sex, yes but romance or love nix.

the horrible thing is THEO??????????????????????

Lexi Blake come back and make it work soon!

This is the 9th book in the Masters and Mercenaries series. Make sure you read all of the books before in order. It will make this book so much better.

It is very rare that I give a book 5 stars but this one deserves it. This is my favorite book of the series and that's hard to say because they are all so good.

The story in this book was amazing. There were twists and turns and I was left with a cliff hanger, but not too bad. The next few books are going to tie everything together nicely.

Every book the author draws me in and gets me invested in the characters. I don't know how she does it with every book. I want to hang out with all the characters, I want to be a part of their lives. I think I would be a better person if I did. Kind of weird but that's how good Lexi Blake is at character development.

The horror that Ten goes through is heart wrenching. I can't imagine how someone could live through that. I know things like that happen in real life, I just don't know why people put themselves in that situation. I guess that's what you do when you are in Special Forces. It was good to see that Ten can be loved and to love.

I can't wait to get started on the next book. I am reading the books that the author suggests on her website www.lexiblake.net.

I'd been waiting forever for this next full-length installment of Blake's "Masters and Mercenaries" series, and after a somewhat slow start, I couldn't put it down.

Tennessee Smith has never belonged anywhere. Always on the fringes, he's made a career of doing the CIA's dirty work. Now a free agent, he wants to bring down the group who's responsible for his brother's murder as well as his own betrayal and torture. He'll use McKay-Taggart's operation, and he'll use Dr. Faith McDonald as well, since her father is a key to the murderous cartel. And if getting close to Faith means learning to be a Dom, then that's what Ten will do. Faith has dedicated her life to improving third world health care, and runs a clinic in a remote African village. Now home on leave, she's planning to have fun and kinky sex with a new Dom at Sanctum that the subs call Master No....Tennessee Smith. However, Ten's surprised by his attraction to Faith, and as they fall hard for each other, Ten's torn between his growing love for Faith and his determination to reveal her father's treachery. He's not sure he can face a future without her -- and once she discovers that he's using her, she'll surely leave.

Ten's an interesting character. Not quite an anti-hero, he's pretty dark...loads of trust issues, and there's lots of Childhood Baggage that make him back away from any kind of emotional ties or friendships. Needless to say, he's rather overwhelmed by all the warm camaraderie at McKay-Taggart, and he tries (and fails) to keep Faith at a distance. I'm not sure that I bought Ten as a Dom, since it seems like he only took on that role so he could engage with Faith at Sanctum. So..the whole "I'm your Dom, and you'll do what I tell you" thing that he tries during the mission rings hollow. I'm not surprised that Faith basically ignores it.

Who wouldn't love Faith? She's Pollyanna all rolled up in a nice kinky bow! Happily, she's saved from being too saccharine by her pragmatism and her own emotional reserve. She senses Ten's deep loneliness because she is, in her own way, just as remote and as apart as he is, and so they save each other...

While the story is slow to launch, it quickly gains momentum and rolls right along. It's not too hard to figure out who the bad guy(s) is, but there's lots of good action and suspense...And speaking of suspense, kudos to Blake for being brave enough to (almost) have a "Game of Thrones -- Red Wedding" moment. I was aghast, but then breathing easier a little later on.

I love the brief glimpses of the McKay-Taggart team, especially Ian with the babies. So sweet!

3.75 - 4 stars. It had been awhile since I had read a Masters and Mercenaries book and I had forgotten how good they are! They are such a great blend of sexy kink, sweet romance and suspense with intricate story lines and well developed characters with a dash of humor. This addition to the series was no different. This was Tennessee and Faith's story. Faith is the daughter of a politician that is responsible for Ten's brother's death. She is also a doctor running a clinic for the poor in Liberia and is coming home to the US for a visit for a few weeks of rest. She doesn't know her father is a bad man. She is very sweet, smart, and selfless. She doesn't have time for a relationship in Africa, but she does hook up with a dom when in the US visiting. But her dom recently broke up with her. So this time, she has been set up with Ten, by Theo and Erin, who are her security team in Africa and who work for McKay-Taggart. The problem is Ten is using Faith to get information on her father so that he can avenge his brother's death. Faith likes Ten right away from talking to him online and she feels an immediate connection with him that she never felt before with any other dom. When they meet, she realizes she is willing to open up with him and give him more than she has ever given anyone else. Ten has not been into BDSM before but he finds that he really likes Faith and it comes natural to him when he is with her. He is afraid of trusting her though because the one time he trusted a woman, she turned out to be a double agent and she turned on him. But as they spend time together they find themselves falling for each other. They both have a lot of baggage from their pasts to overcome, but they suited each other perfectly. I have already liked Ten from previous books and this book showed a deeper, lonelier side to him. Faith was very patient with him and totally head of heels. There is some drama (a lot!) when Faith finds out how their relationship started and it is hard for her to forgive him because she feels lied to and betrayed by him and others she considered her friends, but Ten is still determined to keep Faith safe. Everything comes to a head when Faith's father showers his true colors and people get hurt. But Faith and Ten manage to stay safe and work things out between them in the end. I was happy with how their relationship developed from beginning to end. I love that these books are long enough to give the story and their relationship such great depth (over 300 pgs.) as well. I still love this series and look forward to more from Lexi Blake!

Master No is book nine in the Masters and Mercenaries Series. I've read the entire addicting series and I can't get enough. Each story takes us on a in depth journey of the complexities of a relationship while battling evil.

Tennessee (Ten) Smith had a bad turn of events, he was wrongly disavowed from the CIA. Now he not only wants to clear his name but he also wants revenge for the death of his brother.

"Yes, he wanted to takeMcDonald down. Yes, he wanted to stop the senator's network from ever making money off American lives again, but he wanted back in. He wanted his name back. He wanted to grind down the people who had sold him out"

In order to procure information to clear his name and take down Senator Hank McDonald, the man who has burned him, he needs to convince his daughter Dr. Faith McDonald to submit to him.

Dr. Faith McDonald saves lives, she has a clinic in South Africa where she cares for the impoverished. She's also a submissive and is excited about returning to the U.S. and spending time with a very sexy Dom.

Ten from the beginning finds himself very protective of Faith. She's his means to an end but he may want more including her full submission. Ten pushes Faith for more.

"You want our Dom to instinctively know what you need, but you don't want to give him the same courtesy."

Their relationship develops and before Ten has a chance to tell Faith the truth about her family, it all comes crumbing down. Ten finds himself having to choose between love and revenge.

Ten and Faith relationship is not the only tested, Erin and Theo also find themselves in the throws of upheaval. Theo is over the moon about Erin, she's reluctant because of her past. Theo and Erin's story isn't over yet. There is more to come.

I loved this story from beginning to end. It's an emotional ride that's action packed and filled with angst. The story draws you in and doesn't let you go. My imagination was running wild and not only during the hot scenes. My heart felt like it was torn out, resuscitated and sewn back into place. Lexi Blake never fails to thrill her readers. This is a 5+++ Star read!
