“We are going to record a message to send to your parents, so that they know you are well and will dispatch the ransom quickly now that all the negotiations are complete.”
Macaulay Connors is a skilled and well decorated soldier. Had he not been abrasive to his commanders, he would’ve reached the highest ranks. Mac leaves the army and immediately, his skill becomes an important commodity for business tycoon Noel Harris.
Confident in his unique set of skills, Mac demands the highest salary possible. But Noel knows that Mac is worth it.
Settling into his new job, Mac whips Noel’s security team into shape. On the job he meets his employer’s wife Maria and son Michael. In no time, he becomes more involved in their lives than Noel ever was and he grows attached to the two as if they were his own family.
But the peace is broken and tragedy strikes.Michael is kidnapped.
Mac stops at nothing to bring him back and when he does, he finds that Michael is the shell of the young man he used to be. Now his mission is to put young Michael back together but sometimes fear doesn’t go away so easily. He knows that he will do anything for him even if “anything” can mean so much more.
What the heck did I just read? The writing was clunky and the story was scattered and awful. To be fair, non-con is not something I like to read, so that pulled me out of the story, but Max being obsessed with Michael and then marrying his mom, only to then have relations with Michael while married? Like I said, WTF did I just read. I had this book on Amazon, but just deleted it permanently. There is no way I will ever read this book again.
Oh my, I don't know what to say. I was so torn between one and two stars but I think two stars "it was ok" should have been renamed "it was not ok, but it had potential". If I did not like it I would not have finished it. It is not the first time I have read about rape that damaged the lower part of the victim, but people, be assured only in books and movies do the guys and girls walk away with no freakin' side effects and life long problems, physically and psychologically. Apart from that I was hoping for a different outcome than I read and that was what was making my head shake and thinking this is wrong. The MC is falling for the victim's mother, starting a relationship, definitively not gay but has a gay-for-you moment with the son after he has recovered from his ordeal with the blessing of the woman he loves. Even if they are no blood relations and all a consenting adults the only thing that sounded halfway realistic at the end was that the young man ten years down the track living in a firm relationship kept the secret of the other man he had made love to.
