A boy haunted by the past. A girl shackled to her conscience. An ancient ghost army determined to steal their souls.
Cam Dwyer only asks that his family at the Calhoun ranch let him play the role of the happy-go-lucky youngest kid, without probing into his abusive background. But Cam’s fragile peace shatters when he sees ghost riders in the sky one dark winter night and hears the sinister wind calling him. Matters go from bad to worse when Cam is bitten by a ghostly dog and receives a crippling invisible wound. Who are these deadly specters… and what do they want from a young cowboy who’s never even stood up for himself, much less hurt anyone else?
Esther Reinhardt may have the answers to Cam’s plight, though she doesn’t want to admit it. After escaping her strict Mennonite community and her controlling father, Esther arrives at the Calhoun ranch seeking her missing sister… and promptly throws the Calhoun family into turmoil when she reveals the name of the man who took her: Sigurd Mahres, the monster who’s been stalking Meg Calhoun for years.
Tormented by guilt over abandoning her religion, Esther refuses to believe what she learns of the dark supernatural forces at Sigurd’s command. But as Esther’s quest for answers unfolds, all signs point to one ice-cold truth: Sigurd is using her sister as prey for a horde of hungry ghosts from ancient Germanic legend, the Wild Hunt.
And now they’re hunting Cam, too.
If you love spine-chilling tales from the Brothers Grimm and rip-roaring Western adventures, you won’t want to miss Wild Hunt.

hello, I wrote a spooky, ghostly wintertime adventure about church trauma and recovery from abuse and German immigrant culture and veiled references to Hans Christian Andersen's "Snow Queen." I hope you like it. releasing May 19th with SnowRidge Press, preorders available now.
content warning: PG-13 language, mental illness, history of abuse, including religious abuse, dark supernatural forces, mildly graphic wounds, kissing + mild innuendo
This is my favorite of Katie Hanna's novels because I love winter-themed stories in which you can feel the frost nipping at your heels. Besides which, this book includes the wild hunt — ghosts pursuing the living and intending to torment them to their death. I dig it. I really do.
Cam is a bit of an unapologetic lovesick pup / damn fool, which makes him adorable. And Esther is a hard-nosed, "right is right and wrong is wrong" immigrant with secrets and a temper. They fall in love while Cam tries to avoid becoming ghost fodder, and in the meantime, we get to spend time with all the characters from the previous books, back at the "home ranch."
It's a great read that will put a chill into your bones!
I cannot officially review this book because I was on the editing team. However, I thought it did a great job at approaching domestic and religious abuse and the power structures and dynamics that surround that. As well as giving us more of the wonderful heroes, villains, and found family that we love. <3 Excited to see more of what comes from this series.
Literally, this book is chilling, but in the best way.
Book 1 is waterlogged and stormy, much like the main characters' emotions and character arcs.
Book 2 is fiery, full of shame, anger, and love burning right through all of that.
Book 3 is cold, icy, and terrifying. It explores the heart of fear and identity in a haunting way.
Katie Hanna is a master at giving you a new experience within the setting/plot of a story, while maintaining the familiarity of the characters you already love. Each new character and each new story just adds depth and richness.
This book probably contains the hardest struggles we've seen our beloved ranch family endure thus far, but as always, they manage to surprise us with how they face these new challenges.
Grab a warm blanket, your emotional support teddy bear (you're gonna need it), and settle in for an icy showdown.
