I was a little nervous going into Asher because I loved Grim and this world so much, and I wasn’t sure if this would live up to it. It did. I finished it in one sitting, the pacing was perfect for me, and I had forgotten how much I loved this world until I was right back in the OtherWorld.
The story was beautifully written. And Asher absolutely had a story worth telling. I loved getting more of his backstory and understanding more of what shaped him. The way the story moved between past and present was easy to follow, the struggles felt earned, and the plot kept moving the whole time. I never felt like I was waiting around for the story to get somewhere.
Seeing characters from Grim pop back in made it even better, and Big D still has the same humor I loved in the first book. At this point I am fully hoping his story is next.
The ending left me wanting book three, and now I cannot wait for the audiobook because my brain is absolutely not recreating whatever greatness I already know that cast is going to bring.
I’d recommend this to anyone who loved Grim and wants more of this world, especially if you were already curious in Asher.

4.5⭐️ I wish that I would of applied for the ALC because I first did Grim on audiobook and was obsessed! And I feel like Asher would of had the same impact on me if I did it on audio. But regardless I LOVED Asher.
LOVE NEVER DIES.
I loved the new characters and the old characters from Grim. Asher is intense and possessive and I was completely invested at the way his story unfolded. Asher is unforgettable and this story was addictive. It was funny and heartbreaking. Just learning about his life and how he came to the other world is just so 🥹 this book was the true definition of the quote from Grim- “Love Never Dies” Once again DJ Krimmer and Joe Arden understood the assignment! I can’t wait to do this on audiobook!

One constant about life, even in the OtherWorld? It’s always evolving, expanding, ending — yet enduring in ways that are rich in love, loss, remembrance and examination.
In Asher?
We have a historically harrowing, coming of age love story woven together with threads of second chance magic by way of Thomas Asher and Madeleine Whitcomb.
This read is a puzzle — pieced together in part by a past paralyzed by position and power — two souls lost to unimaginable fates. Their pasts replay in fits and starts, parallel to, yet constrained, by their present conditions in the AfterLife.
Asher and Madeleine each have a journey in collected fragments of memories in the midst of the maddening mundanity and bureaucratic tug-of-war within the OtherWorld.
What makes this story special for me, as a relative newbie to the PNR landscape, is the rich draw from philosophical fault lines (and quite profoundly) the inclusion of the “what if’s” of Chance. There is a runner at about ninety percent in the read that stopped me in my tracks:
“But why? There must be a reason. There simply must. No. There. Does. Not.”
I reread that section, along with chapter 34 specifically, multiple times.

Back to the matter at hand — the love story.
Maddy and Tommy are tethered from a young age. Maddy is bold and vivacious, her energy inexplicably calls out to Tommy’s heart despite his lower station and her path to a purgatory of a life she does not want. They face adversity and agony in this second chance romance — heed your content and trigger warnings because these characters have been through it in ways that are universally heartbreaking.
The visualization of an 1860’s England contrasts with the vast vibrancy of the OtherWorld — and the story is rich in sensory detail. Case in point — Thomas’s forge. Some of the best heat I’ve read from these authors happens in that home of fire and hot metal. It will sear, and soothe, your heart with the sensuality found between two soulmates clinging to moments forged in that fire.
I am learning that in the paranormal world it is necessary to have an all-encompassing physical landscape that mirrors the story. I have a sense of the broader landscape of the OW — and how the placement of The Bliss and The Catacombs are wildly important elements of acceptance vs. anarchy.
There are so many delicious surprises included — it is clear that the authors have consciously and carefully crafted a vision for these characters and this world building. I can envision all the wild potential for future installments of the Lost Souls Chronicles. Chance just raised the stakes, and the future feels full of soul-altering, high-stakes possibilities.
What would Nana do, indeed?
Our favorite characters are back — more depth is added to characters like Death, Fate and Time while reassuring us that Rue and Kane are still anchored in the infinite. The introduction of Chance, The Bliss, and The Catacombs gave me perspective and insight into the motivations of the authors.
You’ll know it when you read it — and when you see versions of yourself echoed back to you by way of these characters’ minds, experiences or philosophies, it feels like you’ve embarked on a journey more significant than a checkmark on your TBR.

"Asher" delivers everything that you'd expect from a "Grim" sequel and then expands the world and tells its own incredible story. It feels more like a fantasy book, with a lot of the main action and adventures taking place in the magical OtherWorld.
Asher's story is told in two timelines, that are revealed parallel to each other. Right from the start you know the ending of the part of the story that takes place in 1860s England. So while the present timeline pushes forward, the one in the past reveals in flashbacks what led to that ending. For me that was a very engaging way to tell the plot, I couldn't wait to piece together the past story and see where the present story was going.
In this book the OtherWorld gets expanded and a lot more detailed. There are no long descriptions though, or big parts with explanations. Everything is revealed naturally and gradually, as part of the story. The worldbuilding is very easy to follow, but it also creates an unique atmosphere. The Other World is alive, and vivid, with sounds, and sights and even smells, with magical creatures, and fantastical landscape, and it's interesting and so very beautiful and haunting. The 1860's England is just as immersive.
This incredible world is filled with wonderfully developed characters, every one of them as memorable as the main ones. I loved the new characters and I loved seeing again some of the characters from Grim. The dynamic between Kane and Rue has changed, and I loved that I got to see how. I also loved that the dynamic between Kane and Big D has stayed the same. Chance was a fantastic new addition. He was very entertaining, but also had a deeper, philosophical side, that I am still thinking about. Time and Fate are also developed further and I am very curious where their stories are going to go.
I was so intrigued to get to know Maddy, in the present and in the Bliss, and in the past. She is fascinating, brave and smart, and funny, with a heart filled with love. And Asher... Him I loved even in Grim, because of the glimpses of his true character. But after really getting to know him and the darkness that he carries, seeing what he's been through and what he is ready to do for love, Tommy, Thomas, Asher, he's my favorite male character from the series. At least for now.

I ended up reading this in a single sitting because once I started, I genuinely couldn't put it down. The pacing was perfect for me, constantly moving without ever feeling rushed, and I was reminded almost immediately why I fell in love with this series in the first place. Stepping back into the OtherWorld felt like coming home.
One of my favourite things about this book was finally getting Asher's story. I already liked him in Grim, but understanding his past, his pain, and everything that shaped him made me appreciate his character on a whole new level. The dual timeline worked brilliantly. Watching the present-day story unfold while slowly piecing together the events of the past kept me completely hooked.

Walking into The Other World again to experience this magic was absolutely the best time.
First I would like to say that this book takes you on such a beautiful and fun adventure of Lost Love, Long forgotten memories, unbelievable heartache, forbidden love, Loss again, Heartache, Poetry, and just the most exquisite show of Redemption I have read.. Well since Grim that is.
If you are thinking that this is a stand alone, you are somewhat right.. Kind of. You ABSOLUTELY should read Grim first so you get an intro into The Other World in the way it was imagined.
Thomas Asher is just a humble blacksmith that had an unfortunate encounter that leads him to The Other World. Maddy is a Lady of her time and when these two collide.. well MAGIC is proven to exist.
They battle through all the twists and turns of their current situations and time to eventually possibly maybe just get to spend the rest of never together. I was not expecting to fall for these characters equally and even more that Grim with Kane and Rue. Here are though..
Dj and Joe do such a fantastic job with these stories, they bring you into their own minds and show you something unreal and magical and beautiful. So much so that when this story came to an end I was SO sad to not have a full conclusion.. Now we wait.. for what comes next. I have no predictions yet but I will say it will be epic I am sure!
OH and Big D.. well I suspect he has more of a story to come.. at least let's hope! Also Nana.. Hey girl hey!

Round of applause because I actually loved this book more than book 1! This is book 2 and yes you do need to read book 1 to understand what’s going on.
I loved getting to read more of Asher from a completely different perspective than we did in Grim. His story is full of self-loathing, second chances, forgiveness, and a love and yearning that has literally lasted centuries.
I also really enjoyed the flashbacks with Asher and Maddy and how they slowly pieced together their history while everything in the present built toward Asher trying to find her again. There’s something about a man searching for the love of his life after centuries that just gets me!
The way these authors wrote Asher’s story was so good! The characters, the emotion, the humor, the banter (especially anything involving Big D 🤣) all worked so well together.
Speaking of Big D, he’s one of my favorite characters (loooove his sarcastic dark humor) and I’d love to read more on his backstory, including his relationship with his father.
Fate and Time need to go touch grass. They were my most hated characters, aside from Alister. They definitely added more layers to the story and I hope we get to find out more about them in the next book.

I loved getting to read more of Asher from a completely different perspective than we did in Grim. His story is full of self-loathing, second chances, forgiveness, and a love and yearning that has literally lasted centuries.
I also really enjoyed the flashbacks with Asher and Maddy and how they slowly pieced together their history while everything in the present built toward Asher trying to find her again. There’s something about a man searching for the love of his life after centuries that just gets me!

Boy oh boy, i was not prepared for the emotional roller coaster than was this book! 🥹 I loved this story so much. I loved getting to see Asher from a different perspective than we saw in Grim. His story is about self-loathing, second chances, and a love and yearning that spans centuries 🥹🖤
This story is dual timeline almost, with flashbacks from both Asher and Maddy making one story lead up to the deaths of both of them. And then we have the present.. when Kane and Asher meet Chance on a reap in Las Vegas, he presents Asher with information he never knew he needed… the whereabouts of the love of his life, Maddy. Chance offers Asher an opportunity to find her and gives him a riddle to solve to get to her. But Asher knows that going against Big D’s orders will have repercussions, but he doesn’t care.. his Dove is waiting for him. 🕊️
With the help of Kane & Rue (both from Grim) - Asher takes off on a quest to the Bliss to find his girl.. but when Fate and Time are against you.. you better be careful. Book two in The Lost Souls Chronicles follows Asher and Maddy, two people draw to each other like a moth to a flame but born to different classes in the 19th century. Asher provides us multiple POVs which I really enjoyed throughout the story. I was immediately transported back into the OtherWorld, a place I feel like I shouldn’t want to be, but I can’t get enough of.
Asher is not just a book, it’s a journey for the reader as you follow the characters through their past and present. It is a story of forgiveness, growth, and transformation which I believe will be relatable to anyone who consumes it. It explores memories, which as we know can vary throughout one’s life. For some this may bring joy and pleasure but along with those things we often experience pain. Asher reminded me of the impact people can have on our perception of self and how each of our choices, are exactly that, ours. What we do in those moments is up to us. But in Asher the question is, can these characters face their pain for a second chance at love?
Easy five star rating and honored to have had the chance to be an ARC reader for this incredible story. I highly recommend and know I for one will be completing a re-read as soon as the audiobook drops.

To say I was excited to dive into this book would be the biggest understatement of the century! ❤️
I loved Grim. I read the book, listened to the audiobook (twice!), and it quickly became one of my favourites. So, when I received the ARC for Asher and finally stopped screaming with excitement, I went straight in.
Ever since reading Grim, I’ve been dying to know more about Asher. He was such an intriguing character in the first book, and oh boy… his story was definitely worth telling!
This book was written just as beautifully as Grim. The way loss is portrayed is absolutely heartbreaking—you don’t just read about it, you feel it in your soul. 💔
Maddy and Asher’s love story is beautiful, emotional, and heartbreaking. It was written so incredibly well, and I loved them both so much. The flashbacks were absolute perfection and added so much depth to their story.
And oh, how happy I was to see Big D, Kane, and Rue again! The banter was once again excellent, and I loved getting to spend more time with these characters.
I absolutely love the world these authors have created and the way everyone’s stories are connected. There’s something so satisfying about seeing all those little threads come together. I’m completely OBSESSED with this series!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

What an emotional journey back to the Other World this was! It was a struggle to read some of the pages through my tears as we get Asher's heartbreaking back story. His and Maddy's love was doomed from the very beginning, and as we slowly get to read more and more, the more it becomes obvious. It was so sad, but made it all the better reading them fighting so hard to get back to each other. It was so beautiful.

Big D was comedy gold as always, although we got to see a more vulnerable side to him that made me love him even more 🖤
The writing is so immersive, I laughed and I cried and I felt pure and utter hatred towards Fate on several occasions!
It was great to get to check back in with Rue and Kane too and to see them thriving together in the LSD.
I did not see that ending coming, but it sets up for book 3 so well!! I can't wait to go back to the OW.

I am SO happy to be back in this world. DJ and Joe have such a signature blend of gothic atmosphere and rich world-building, but somehow it never loses that witty, banter-heavy voice that makes their characters feel so alive — genuinely some of the best banter I've read.
This one started a little slower and leaned more romance-driven than Grim, but the background characters kept the momentum going, and I love that we're getting this overlapping storyline across the series.
Asher's story hit exactly what I want from a second-chance, star-crossed-lovers arc. Watching his and Maddy's history unfold through the time jumps was so well done — I'm a sucker for that dual-timeline slow reveal, and this delivered.
And getting Rue and Kane back?? I adore them so much, it was such a treat to spend more time in their orbit.
Now — we NEED Big D and Mercy's book next. And by "need" I mean I am begging. Please. 🙏🖤

When I tell you this books is absolutely amazing, I 100% mean it. The way Joe and DJ wrote this story is so so good. The writing, the characters, their story, chefs friggin kiss. The banter with Big D is so funny and kept me laughing every time he was in a scene. One of the things I love about listening to Joe narrate is the way he brings such heartfelt emotion to his characters and he does the same thing when writing as well.
Chapter 34 literally gave me chills. The journey Asher goes on in this chapter specifically, the changes he sees on the face infront of him, his face, had me so emotional. The whole book is written so well but this chapter specifically called to me in a way I haven’t felt in a long time.
“I am reborn.
Forgiven.
Absolved.
And loved…by the man in the mirror”
Just WOW. Now I’m ready for the next because I NEED to know what happens to Maddy.

Thank you to Blue Nose for this ARC. I was super excited jumping into this story having loved Grim audio and story soooo much. I do wish I had the audio for this but the story itself was sooo beautifully written. The way that dj and Joe take you into this world is just chefs kiss. Having met Asher’s character in grim I def enjoyed finally getting his backstory and how he came to be where and who he was and he had a hell of a story to tell. My heart hurt for him so many times throughout the story. His and Maddie’s love story was def not an easy or happy one but watching it all unfold in this story was great. That cliffhanger ending most def left us open for an another book and I need to know what is happening. I loved that we got to have time with rue and Kane in this book as well brining all of the characters back from the first one just made it even better.

I read this book as an arc reader, i was soo to learn more bout asher after reading grim. It didnt disappoint me at all. Joe arden is one of my favourite voice actors hw always brings the story the life, jistw as he did in this book.
This is Asher and maddys story, the pleasure and the pain. they are no opposite partners just partners and proof that you are alive.
Its set in the present day but also 1980s
It’s beautiful written, its a story that had me at the edge of seat, i couldnt predict what cames next.
Its a love story full of heartache and betrayal, i smiled, i laughed and i cried.

I enjoyed this one, but I didn’t connect with it quite as much as I did with book one. It was definitely a slower read for me.
I did love seeing characters from Grim again, though! And honestly… can we PLEASE get a book about Big D?! Because that’s the book I need.

When I tell you that I am waiting for more.. I devoured this book. The way I felt immersed into this book. I truly can’t wait to get the audio! I just know it will bring this book further to life! Joe and DJ did a fantastic, top tier job with this book! 10/10 recommend this! Start with Grim!!!
