The Story of a Small Dog Who Needed a Home and the Couple Who Needed HimWhen Michael and Cheryl Morse slowly drifted apart amid an empty nest, her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, his symptoms of PTSD, and the grief of losing their two beloved dogs-put down on the same day three years prior-it became apparent their lives were in need of a little joy. Enter an energetic, white ball of fluff known as Mr. Wilson.Mr. Wilson’s story begins in Arkansas, where he was left in a leaky, drafty barn for days-the result of a child who couldn’t care for him and a woman who wouldn’t. An escape artist, he eventually found himself on a country road where he was discovered by a neighbor. Familiar with his current living conditions, she took him in, cleaned him up, and created an online adoption profile for him. In Rhode Island, Cheryl Morse clicked on Mr. Wilson’s photo and instantly fell in love.A few days later, Mr. Wilson arrived in Rhode Island by a tractor trailer full of dogs needing homes. Upon meeting the Morses, he was happy, affectionate, and excited-but how long would it last? Would they be able to care for him and themselves? Had he finally found his forever home? What if they had cats?In Mr. Wilson Makes It Home, the joy Michael and Cheryl so badly needed comes in the form of an adorable schnoodle named Mr. Wilson. This animal rescue story tells of the love, recovery, faith, and hope that a pet can bring to a brokenhearted family.
A nice quick read, a book that makes you feel good, and you know many of the things Michael Morse says in the book are so true, why I am an animal lover.
I am getting near to retirement, and I so much want a dog when I do, to join our four cats !
All my life I have had animals in my life, my wife and I have always had cats, and when time allows in retirement, I so much want to enjoy the company of a dog.
So why three stars, a difficult book to review, I enjoyed the book, I do love true stories, all animal stories, but this is also a book about Michael and his wife Cheryl.
in fact maybe more about Michael and Cheryl, I do realise that a large part of this book is how dogs in your life are so important, how your life is effected by well "life", and sometimes are busy life's take over the things we want to enjoy.
Michael does explain very well the hard life and work he had lead for the last 22 years, the nasty and sad memories, maybe a little too much. Yes I do understand the importance to how lovely Mr Wilson helped him recover, slowly.
His wife bravely fighting a horrible disease in MS, their love for animals and the memories of the animals they have had.
So some heartwarming touches some really honest thoughts, would have loved to read more on Mr Wilson and his exploits.
My family has had exceptionally good luck with “rescue animals” in both canine and feline forms. This story tells the tale of one such animal who found a home with two people who needed him as much as he needed them. Much of what occurs has also occurred to us. Some is distinctly unique. But it is a good story and very enjoyable reading.
A heartwarming and thought provoking book - although I’m biased as monty is a Schnoodle too. I heard about this book through following Wilson Morse on Facebook and had to read it as I love the philosophical comments he shares regularly. The book is differently written from the Facebook page - written as a biography / narrative about the introduction of Mr Wilson to his new home. Really enjoyed it and already passed on to a fellow Schnoodle Mum to read
Amazing correlation pets and humans and the value of each to the other.
Good read for all. Michael thank you for serving your community along with the rest of us as rescuers who sometimes need rescued ourselves. Pets do just that and being peace to chaos.
