When Nothing Makes Sense: Finding God in the Gap Between Prayer and Answer

Rate this book
What do you do when you've prayed—and the silence is the only answer?

You've been here before. Standing in the wreckage of what you thought your life would be, wondering if you misheard God, or if God has simply gone quiet. The job, gone. The person, gone. The certainty, gone.

Everything you built feels dismantled. Everything you planned has dissolved.

This is the gap—the space between the prayer you keep repeating and the answer that has not yet arrived.

In When Nothing Makes Sense, you are invited to remain in that space without rushing to fix it. Drawing from lived experience, Scripture, and the contemplative stream of Christian mysticism, this book reflects on loss, waiting, and the quiet ways God remains present — even when hidden — within you.

Rather than offering formulas or guaranteed answers, it asks a different question:

What if the falling apart is not failure, but an opening?

What if the disorientation itself is a portal and what you are searching for has quietly been within you all along?

This book will not tell you how to fix what feels broken. It is a companion for the long middle—for when faith feels fragile, answers do not come, and the only thing left is trust.

Told in three movements—Disruption, Awakening, and Remembering—it traces the full arc of what it means to lose your footing, find your way back, and discover that God was present in every moment of the falling.

For anyone who has prayed honestly and waited longer than expected, this is your invitation to remember that even in the silence, you were never lost.

I really enjoyed this book but if you are wanting to read it, definitely use your discernment. Some parts point more to your “inner divine powerful self” than to God and contradict scripture. This book was very helpful but there was very little scripture. It was more self help than help from the Bible. But overall it had helpful points!

this is hard to put into words. i did months of work on myself before reading this and i’m not going to say a book fixed everything, but something about it met me exactly where i was and moved something in me that’s hard to explain. the last entry had me in full tears, the cathartic kind you didn’t know you needed! i’ve already talked to so many people about it and truly it just came at the most perfect time in my journey! if you find yourself in a season where you feel lost, one where you could reflect on past versions of yourself, or one where you just need to get your thoughts in order i highly highly highly recommend this book!
