She gave me her blood, and my life changed forever.
Anastasia. My sire. The only influential figure in my already-fragile life. She did this to me. She caused all the pain and suffering. There was a time I believed I owed her everything. After all, she gave me immortality and the never-ending thirst for the energy contained in the blood of my victims.
But now vampires hunt me and the humans want to use me as their personal weapon. They believe I'm some kind of apotropaic figurine that can damn all Deamhan and force us back into hell where we belong. Me? I just want to live. I just want to be Maris. That way, the only one I can damn is myself.
Isaiyan Morrison was born and raised in Minneapolis, but her heart is in the impressive magical worlds she dreams up. She hopes to share her love for world-building with her readers and help guide them through the extraordinary settings she creates.

It's almost as if we each have a vampire inside us. Controlling that beast, that dark side, is what fascinates me.

Isaiyan Morrison, have now became a household name when it comes to vampire tales, and this author have forever fascinated me with her Deamhan Chronicles series. This time the author presents us with yet another alluring and compelling series, The Brotherhood Files and Maris is the first book in this series. This book follows the story of a human girl who journey to become a successful and powerful Deamhan in the world of humans is both thrilling and emotional to read about.
Synopsis:
Maris is turned into a Deamhan one night by a beautiful angel-like face vampire named Anastasia. But soon Maris' world turns upside down when the vampires community wanted her dead, human wanted her to use for their own military agenda and only the Deamhans (which is yet another species of vampires!) protected her. Her ancestors are somehow related to a pure coven (you'd know if you watch The Vampire Diaries!) and thus Maris poses a threat to the whole vampires community. What happens next and how she protects herself from all the threats is for you to find out.
Like I always said, Morrison crafts a tale of vampires which is quite extraordinary and unique and completely different from those cheesy vampires romance which only offers lust and blood. The writing is really nice and the author have carefully laid out all the difficult terms out in to the plot very skillfully. And as Maris' journey goes deeper and gets tangled into the threats and war, I felt glued to the very core of the book.
From the very first page, Maris started compelling me with her confused yet brave demeanor, and the way she handles her decision really makes her stand out against all the odds. She is a strong heroine and despite of all the dangers, she had that positive spirit to keep fighting till the end. Some characters from the previous book too were also present and for that I guess, you really need to read the previous series.
The new characters are all etched out with enough depth and explanation to their certain skills and behavior. Other than that, the characters are all very strongly developed and their presence makes the plot even more intriguing. Now there are a lot of events happening in the book which the author have very vividly described in the plot and in an interesting manner, that kept me engaged till the very end.
Verdict: If you're looking for really good and strong and non-cheesy vampire story, then pick up this series, and I'm pretty sure, this series is not going to disappoint you!

I felt like this book, was written with so much passion, I felt it while reading the book. It was full of action, fighting some quite gruesome. I feel so bad for Maris, she suffered so much while human and suffers now as a deamhan. Maris is very special amongst the difference demons and vampire, half want her dead, while the other half is trying to save her. A nasty war breaks out amongst all the different fractions of demons. Bringing in the oldest of daemon, to take from Maris what makes her special and hopefully stop the waring and anyone from wanting to kill Maris anymore. I think there's a lot more to then that personally. Things are not always as easy as they seem. Maris has lost much, but maybe with Ayden things can be better. He says he's come to help her? She seems to feel something with him she's never felt before, not even with the bonds she had with her siblings. Ayden says he's come to help her, that a very powerful pure blooded deamhan, will becoming for her. Demeans coming after her, wasn't that supposed too be put to an end years ago. I am dyeing to find out what happens next. Things could go many different ways. This is an excellent, exciting book, it portrays demons and vampire not as completely evil, nor good but somewhere in the middle and of course some are better some worse then others. These characters are awesome, I love them. They're definitely likable, with many facets to them. This story blew my mind, this whole series is excellent, as of now anyway. I can't imagine it all of a sudden getting bad. I can't wait to read the next book, this Author can really write. I'm officially a huge fan. I was glued to this book front cover to back cover, and so annoyed when it was over. I was just overwhelmed by this story and the series, so far. I highly recommend this book, this series, this Author.
I received this ARC from the Author, but the review is my own opinion after reading the book.
Deamhans, where did they come from? How are they different from Vampires? This is the story of Maris, a young woman who hold the fate of Deamhan and vampire alike and she doesn’t even know it. Step back into London of the 1890’s where a young woman is mercilessly attacked by vampires, creatures she believed existed only in dark tales, was this to be her last moments on earth? A savior appears as she lay bleeding, dying, but has this angel arrived too late? Is Anastasia truly an angelic being or is she another creature of the night? She is Deamhan and Maris is now her offspring, and everyone but Maris knows the power contained within her mind, locked away by her ancestors.
Follow Maris as she struggles to survive as vampires want to kill her and others want to use her as their own personal weapon of mass destruction and power. Will crossing the Atlantic to America keep her safe or is she being watched at every turn, until precisely the right moment…Who can she trust? Where can she hide? She never asked for this, it was forced upon; she would rather die human than live in the shadows forever, damning all around her.
Write this name down, remember it, Isaiyan Morrison. Ms. Morrison is the author of Maris and a woman with a wonderful grasp on dark urban fantasy entertainment. Not only will you feel the dark and dank back streets of London, but when evil creeps out of the shadows, you will feel the hairs on your neck rise. Slowly Ms. Morrison ratchets up the tension until it hits soul vibrating proportions as each secret, each scheme and each player’s agenda is revealed, and in the middle is Maris, with nowhere left to hide.
Isaiyan Morrison spans a great deal of time well, as the years go past without clogging the story line with lumps of filler. Crisp, atmospheric and bold are the earmarks of her style as she bravely muddies the waters between good and evil. Are you looking for something to pull you into the shadows? Like unknown dangers and changing alliances and the ultimate battle that forces one woman to stand tall against odds that are stacked against her? What would you do if you held the key to the death of many? Vampires and Deamhans, ancient tales and lives lasting an eternity filled with politics, deceit and changing loyalties, a hotbed of raw emotion sliced razor thin.

I read a lot of paranormal fantasy, and this really stands apart from the others. The author has submerged themselves so deeply in to the character's mind. I thought the voice of Maris was near perfect. Morrison has given great attention to detail. Little things, such as being able to predict other's movements because of the small contractions of their muscles, provided authenticity to her work - something I don't commonly see in many paranormal novels. I was torn as to whether this book deserved 4 or 5 stars because it really was a 4.5 for me (Get a 4.5 star button Amazon). This was because Maris felt emotionally muted to me. This is totally in context of the story, but it's something I expected to change and develop as the story progressed. Perhaps in book two? In the end, I realized I hadn't put the book down once, and the minor quibble was just that. Minor! So it has scored a well deserved 5 stars. Maris is recommended for people who love the paranormal genre, but like it a little darker, and with a little less "teen hype". You will get a gripping story line and a professionally set out book.
This novel takes place between book 1 and book 2 of Deamhan Chronicles so there were names and Deamhan terms I'm familiar with because I've read The Deamhan Chronicles book 1 already. I've missed the Deamhan world and good thing I was given an ecopy of this book from the author. This book is about Maris, her life after her transformation in being a Ramanga Deamhan, about her importance as well as a danger to Deamhans and why Vampires and some Deamhans wanted her dead, about the Dorvo Coven and their relationship with The Brotherhood, about Maris' ancestors' link to the Pure Ones, about her life in New York and Chicago with Finley where they blended with the humans, about the two Deamhans she cared most and how they were gone in her life, about the bloody battles and about the upcoming threat from Lucius and why he's looking for her.
This book explains more about the Dictum, the Pure Ones and how, who, why Deamhans were created. This book is more emotional than the Deamhan Chronicles book 1. Although I didn't like Maris because some of her decisions resulted in bloody attacks, my heart went out to her during her down moments. I felt the pain, and her sorrow after the two Deamhans she cared most were killed. That scene when she came back for Finley but things didn't turned out what she expected and with all the flashbacks of their time together and their dream to go to San Francisco really broke my heart. I can't wait to find out how the characters and plot from Deamhan Chronicles book 1 and from this book will all be connected in the second book of both series.
There's a glossary at the end of this book that explains the Deamhan terms. This is a highly recommended read with well-written plot and characters.

This is a highly recommended read especially those into supernatural genre. Enjoy the bloody action-packed scenes, revelations and twists and turns of events in the world of Deamhans.
This book Was Given To Me By The Author In Exchange For An Honest Review
This was a unique and interesting read. Isaiyan Morrison is a imaginative and compelling author and I enjoyed the book very much. There was a lot of inner workings of Deamhan world vs. Vampire world and then all the different covens and who wanted Maris dead. I got confused a couple of times as it was hard to keep all the covens and whatnot straight but all in all it was a superb story and thoroughly imaginative, never have I come across another vampire story quite like it before.
I haven't read any of the other books in the Deamhan series but it didn't hamper my reading of this one. however I probably would have had a more in-depth knowledge of the characters if I had read others in the series. Isaiyan Morrison did her job well and I can say without a doubt that this in one of the most intriguing vampire stories I have read in a very long time.
don't miss out on your chance to read it too!

This book will rip the emotions from you that the characters in it seem to lack. Empathy and love come to mind, the only emotions they seem to feel is hatred. And though they have super natural strength, (come on she reaches in through his back and rips out the still beating heart of her enemy.)to me the reader, they feel like pawns caught in a deeper web laid out millennium ago and the spring yet to come. Spanning from the end of the 19th century England, to the middle of the 20th century San Francisco, attention to detail about clothing is well researched, trends of the times, music, dance, are covered well. You get a sense of the history when and when without getting bogged in the details. Though easily a stand alone book you can tell there are other books with more of the story and more yet to come after. The glossary at the back of the different creatures will help if like me you have trouble telling who is who.
The author gave me this book in exchange for an honest review. I have not yet read anything else by her but I am throughly intrigued by the Deamhan and can not wait to read other books set in it's world. I look forward to reading more books by Isaiyan Morrison.
Maris is a story about a girl turned prostitute after her mother's death, who then is at raked by vampires. Instead of turning she is "saved" and sired by a Deamhan, a being that survives off the psychic energy in blood. Maris then finds out she holds the power to end the Daemhan race in her blood and begins a tale of survival, betrayal, suspense and even dark love.
This is the first book I've read by Isaiyan Morrison and she spins a good story. Maris is a strong heroine and you can feel her frustration and anger at the life she's been forced to live. Her heartbreak and confusion permeates the length of the novel, as she tries to understand why she is so important and as she struggles to live with the betrayal and loss of her loved ones. I would recommend this book for any who look for a darker themed, gritty paranormal fantasy.
I was gifted this book in return for my honest review.
I really loved this book. This is the first book of this author's that I've read and believe me I cut wait to read more! Having vampires plus another type of species similar to vampires but mortal enemies at the same time is a very exciting twist that I thoroughly enjoyed reading! This is a definite must read book and series!!
I felt it was a slow start at first but then it picked up. This book has a lot of information in it which I believe is going to help pull any books in this series together a lot quicker.
Maris being a new Denham seems to have more intuition and knowledge than her sire although she does ask a lot of questions.
I would recommend this book I enjoyed It vrtu mjm sj.
I love a new paranormal! Deamhens have come to town. I love this new twist of vampirelike creatures. After finishing Book1 I can't wait to get started on Book 2 to see what trouble Maris gets into.
My review is based on the Audiobook. This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. This story follows Maris journey as an immortal Deamhan. It is an enjoyable read with in depth characters and descriptive world building. I really liked seeing how Maris and others adapt to the ever changing social changes through the generations. The narration was good however at times it was not clear, having a sort of echo sound to it. I look forward to more in this series and from this author.
Born carrying the heaviest of burdens. Innocence never an option. A child struggling to escape with only means available. To suddenly be attacked. Wake to an ever darker world than she ever imagined. Born pawn in a war of monster's. What Hope or Joy can possibly exist in this?
I just lo ed finding out about Maris! Read I.g about her in dark curse book made me wonder about her, well this book gave me that information and so much more about other characters I have read about from books one and two. It was a great book filled with excitement and pain. I felt for Maris in this book. She went through a lot and being a deamhan it was very difficult for her. Isaiyan really captured me in this book. He'll.... I am in love with all these books. Having so many different takes on the vampire and making it work in a beautiful unique way, well it's just magical. If you are a vampire lover as I am, but tired of the same old same, then these are the books you need to be reading! I am truly loving these books and now will be awaiting the third book in the series, or any book, with very little patience. Lol I hate waiting to read a good story. And good it is!!! Pick up a copy! I know you won't be disappointed! But start at the beginning! They are soo worth it!! GreAt job Isaiyan!!! Great job once again!!!!
This is the third novel I’ve read by this author, although it’s listed as a new series, it takes place in the same world as the previous Deamhan novels. (you can follow it just fine, even if you haven’t read the others)
Unlike the other novels, this one follows one Deamhan in particular, Maris, from day one of her becoming a Deamhan. I enjoyed this method of introduction to the Deamhan world. I never felt like the character knew more than me, so we both learned through trial and error, who to trust and who not to trust.
The story is quite graphic, these are not friendly or romantic vampires. (Deamhan are similar to vampires but of a different species, there’s a glossary in the back to help you sort it out.) Humans are killed without remorse, which can take a bit to get used too. But if you are a dire hard vampire or horror fan, this book should be right up your alley and on your to-read list
This story tells a whole new twist on the vampire tale. Maris is not your typical vampire, nor does she sparkle. She is a strong female who takes whatever situation she finds herself in and makes the best of it. Upon the death of her mother, Maris's life changes overnight, forcing her to leave all traces of her former life far behind. Maris has become a type of deamhan known as a ramanga. They are not to be confused with vampires. Although they do share some of the same weaknesses such as sunlight and wood stakes. Maris finds difficulty with those who she forms alliances with as they all seem to turn on her, leaving her not sure who she can trust. It is interesting to watch Maris's character develop and strengthen as the story progresses and this is definitely a new take on the vampire story that I highly recommend reading.
Maris is a wonderful character. The author goes in to detail everything you need to know on how Maris came to be. You immediately are drawn into her life. She is so easy for the reader to want nothing but the best for this girl. But this story explains so much about what happens when someone becomes a Deamhan. I find my self pulling for Maris and wanting to know what comes next for her. If you are not wanting to read a supernatural book that doesn't involve romance and a story with to much gore you will really enjoy this book I suggest you read the Deamhan Chronicles the first one then I then read Maris and then Deamhan Chronicles Dark Curse these are great stories I think everyone will enjoy Maris and all the rest of The Chronicles.
I enjoyed reading this dark tale of a strong female paranormal character Maris over several decades. Her transformation from young prostitute to deamhan is her destiny. Even though she is a creature of the night she has bonds with several of the other characters that give them a strong human quality. I strongly recommend this book to any one liking this genre.
A great read not just another vampire story. There was amazing depth to this dark tale. I enjoyed the story line and characters and it wasn't predictable either. I reccommend this to all readers of paranormal looking for something a bit different to your run of the mill teen vampire stories.
Maris by Isaiyan Marrison. A fantastic read. I loved the story and some of the characters. Loved Maris. Lots of action with blood and gore. Hopefully there is more to come from Maris. 5.
I really enjoy reading Isaiyan Morrison's version of vampires and Deamhan (and the different breeds within this species). I think one of the things I love so much about this series is the ongoing battle between vampires and Deamhan. While Deamhan's fight to live, vampires believe that Deamhan's shouldn't exist and are a dirtier version of vampires. However, in Maris both the vampires and Deamhan's have a common goal and that's to get their hands on Maris. For some Deamhan's it's to protect her at all cost for their oldest Deamhan Kyra. For other Deamhan's it's to destroy Maris, so the information that's buried deep in her memory can't be brought to life and destroy their race. For the vampires, they may try to kill her, but they also could use her to obtain this information and rid the world of the Deamhan race themselves.
So if I enjoyed the story why did I only give it 3 stars? I guess it all comes down to Maris. When she was first sired I could understand her not really knowing her way around the world and/or able to protect herself. She has a whole new life to learn about and a new way of living. But as the time goes on and especially after being put in a position where she had to watch her bonded brother being staked, you would think she would want to find someway to learn to protect herself. However, instead of doing that she relies on Finley and then later Jesse. After everything happens with Ethel, she then turns around and lets Ayden protect her. When Ethel is later killed and Finley taken care of and she's left on her own, she leaves and just lives day by day. She still doesn't take any kind of initiative to learn how to care for herself. I guess at the end of the day I really wanted Maris to turn into a badass woman who could take care of herself, especially after all she was dealt with. Instead I feel we got left with a weak wimpy woman who is still so determined to find someone else to take care of her and her problems.
This is my 1st read and review for this author and it’s a fantastic story and that cover doesn’t it look amazing?. Maris had a miserable life as a human but now she has been turned into a Deamhan things aren’t any better, Demons and vampires want to kill her but there are others who say that they want to help her. And that’s all I’m going to give you guys but to sum this story in one word all I can say is WOW, you can tell that this author has put her whole heart and soul into this book because it shows in this story and I can’t wait to read more from this author. Some scenes were pretty graphic especially with the vampires that kill the humans they are pretty vicious so don’t expect this to be a lovey dovey vampire or demon love story because I can tell you it’s definitely not. I enjoyed this story it makes a nice change it’s different to what I’ve read before, a fantastic story a 5 plus ⭐️ read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
Anastasia was my sire and now I have vampires hunting me and humans that want to use me to their own gains . Maris just wants to live her life and not be part of the world she is part of now . She just wants to have her life back .
This is a book that has some very interesting characters . Maris is a young woman that has been turned and now is having trouble dealing . She is a Deanham and trying to figure out what she is suppose to do . She is feisty and a really fun read . We see her from the beginning of her change to the tough lady she becomes . There are so many diverse characters through out this book . Which are so well written . You will fall in love with all of them .
This is a book where you have to sit down and get snuggled down . Cause once you start reading you will be reading until the end . She takes the main character from the begining of her journey and all the way through. The author shows the Deamhams for what they are and what they are monsters . I will say though that there were just a few parts that dragged a little and kind of slowed the story down just a bit . Over all i truly enjoyed this story and I am definately will read the second book in this series . So if you want a series with Deamham and other monsters check it out
She was made as she was given blood and now she is so different to what she had been. They think she owes them everything but she was not so sure now. Vampires are hunting her and so are humans. They both want to use.her. What will she do? Can she keep safe? Follow her adventures
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Though this is not for the faint of heart but I really enjoyed this book. The emotions feel so real that it's like it's coming straight from you. Isaiyan Morrison makes you think about all that Maris went thru before her life as Deamhan and also all the changes that new life will bring her. If you enjoy vampires stories and want something a little different , then this is for you.
Maris was a good story. Maris is poor young woman minding her own business when destiny comes crashing into her life. Maris is attacked by a group of vampires one night, who are intent on killing her because of her family links to a Curse, that has them believing that she has the power to destroy all vampires and Deamhan (cousins if you like to vampires), or she may just be their saviour. The vampires plans are thwarted by Anastasia, a Deamhan who takes the opportunity of the attack to turn Maris into a Ramanga Deamhan. Either way you look at it, Maris has power that she is completely unaware of and she becomes a pawn in a very dangerous game that her sire is playing.
We travel through time with Maris. We see what she sees and we watch her grow into her new life as a Ramanga Deamhan, from 1897 in London to San Francisco several centuries later. We see how she copes with betrayal and love and how things change through time. Maris is a likeable character, if somewhat immature for a time. I suppose when you have eternity your behaviour can be immature for much longer than we mere mortals have :) We watch her relationship develop with her 'brother' Finley, who is both a help and a obstacle in her life. And how she tries to avoid her destiny for as long as possible.
Eventually things come to a head, as they must, and battles are fought and won and lost ...As a result steps are taken to remove Maris from danger permanently. Although this time is very sad for her, she moves on with her life and tries to accept her immortality and does the best she can with the hand she has been dealt.... However, just when she thinks she is free and she'll be able to live a life away from her kind and vampires alike, events take a terrible turn and it appears that she will be dragged back under.
Parts of the story had flow issues for me, but that being said, I still wanted to see how things turned out for Maris and I would love to read the next instalment, and see what comes next for her. Overall it was a pretty good read and I would like to read other works by Isaiyan Morrison.
